Inh.bitory Effect of th. Extract of Ph.llodendron amurense Ruprech. Root on Collagen-Induced Arth.itis in Mice

Objective： To investigate wh.th.r th. dried root of Ph.llodendron amurense Ruprech.（Ph.llodendri cortex; PC） extract improves arth.itic symptoms th.ough.anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory effects in collagen-induced arth.itis in mice. Meth.ds： Rh.umatoid arth.itis（RA） was induced in male DBA/1 mice by immunization with.type Ⅱ collagen（ColⅡ）. CIA mice were divided into 5 groups（n=10 per a group） with.normal, CIA control, PC extract（50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg）-treated, and meloxicam（50 mg/kg）-treated as th. reference drug. Th. PC extract or meloxicam were administered orally in CIA mice once a day for 14 days after arth.itis induction. Arth.itic score, levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a antibody, prostaglandin E2（PGE2）, tumor necrosis factor（TNF）-α, and interleukin（IL）-17 in th. sera of CIA mice were measured. h.stopath.logical ch.nges in th. ankle joints of CIA mice were also analyzed by staining with.h.matoxylin and eosin（h.and E）, safranin-O and immunoh.stoch.mistry using anti-TNF-α and anti-IL-17 antibodies. Results： Th. arth.itic score was increased in CIA mice in a time-dependent manner, as were th. serum levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a antibody, PGE2, TNF-α, and IL-17. h.wever, th. oral administration of PC extract at 50 and 100 mg/kg in CIA mice significantly decreased th. arth.itic scores, and th. serum levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a, PGE2, TNF-α, and IL-17 compared with.th.se in th. CIA group（P〈0.05 or P〈0.01）. Furth.rmore, h.stopath.logical improvement of th. joint arch.tecture in CIA mice was observed after administration of PC extract. PC extract also significantly inh.bited th. expression of TNF-α and IL-17 in th. joints of CIA mice by suppressing th. expression of th.ir m RNA and proteins. Conclusion： PC extract may improve th. path.logical progression of RA th.ough.th. inh.bition of joint destruction by synovial inflammation and immune-stimulation, th.refore, it would be a potential anti-arth.itic agent in RA.

Motor function outcomes of pediatric patients with.h.miplegic cerebral palsy after reh.bilitation treatment:a diffusion tensor imaging study

Previous diffusion tensor imaging （DTI） studies regarding pediatric patients with.motor dys-function h.ve conifrmed th. correlation between DTI parameters of th. injured corticospinal tract and th. severity of motor dysfunction. Th.re is also evidence th.t DTI parameters can h.lp predict th. prognosis of motor function of patients with.cerebral palsy. But few studies are re-ported on th. DTI parameters th.t can relfect th. motor function outcomes of pediatric patients with.h.miplegic cerebral palsy after reh.bilitation treatment. In th. present study, 36 pediatric patients with.h.miplegic cerebral palsy were included. Before and after reh.bilitation treatment, DTI was used to measure th. ifber number （FN）, fractional anisotropy （FA） and apparent dif-fusion coefifcient （ADC） of bilateral corticospinal tracts. Functional Level of h.miplegia scale （FxL） was used to assess th. th.rapeutic effect of reh.bilitative th.rapy on clinical h.miplegia. Correlation analysis was performed to assess th. statistical interrelationsh.p between th. ch.nge amount of DTI parameters and FxL. DTI ifndings obtained at th. initial and follow-up evalua-tions demonstrated th.t more affected corticospinal tract yielded signiifcantly decreased FN and FA values and signiifcantly increased ADC value compared to th. less affected corticospinal tract. Correlation analysis results sh.wed th.t th. ch.nge amount of FxL was positively correlated to FN and FA values, and th. correlation to FN was stronger th.n th. correlation to FA. Th. results suggest th.t FN and FA values can be used to evaluate th. motor function outcomes of pediatric patients with.h.miplegic cerebral palsy after reh.bilitation treatment and FN is of more signiif-cance for evaluation.

Evaluation of lubrication performance of crank pin bearing in a marine diesel engine

In th.s study, th. lubrication performance of th. crank pin bearing in a marine two–stroke diesel engine is evaluated to investigate th. adh.sional failure on th. crank pin bearing. A numerical algorith. for th. lubrication analysis considering motion analysis of th. crank pin system is developed. Th. film pressure and th.ckness for th.ee clearances and th.ee lubricant temperatures are calculated. Th. results sh.w th.t th. lubricant temperature h.s a h.gh.r effect on film th.ckness th.n clearance. In terms of th. film parameter, th. operating condition th.t can result in solid–solid contact is investigated. We also suggest th. desirable operating conditions of clearance and lubricant temperature to prevent th. solid–solid contact.

A th.oretical model of a friction pendulum system （FPS） is introduced to examine its application for th. seismic isolation of spatial lattice sh.ll structures. An equation of motion of th. lattice sh.ll with.FPS bearings is developed. Th.n, seismic isolation studies are performed for both.double-layer and single-layer lattice sh.ll structures under different seismic input and design parameters of th. FPS. Th. influence of frictional coefficients and radius of th. FPS on seismic performance are discussed. Based on th. study, some suggestions for seismic isolation design of lattice sh.lls with.FPS bearings are given and conclusions are made wh.ch.could be h.lpful in th. application of FPS.

Tcells are one of th. most migratory cells in th. body. Th. development and function of T cells depend on th.ir interaction with.oth.r cells, wh.ch.is, in turn, dependent on optimal cell migra- tion. T cells migrate largely in th.ee dif- ferent ways： rapid distribution via blood vessels th.ough.h.modynamic move- ment, transendoth.lial migration and interstitial movement. Transendoth.lial migration involves sequential activation of selectins, ch.mokine receptors and integrin molecules expressed by migrat- ing T cells, leading to extravasation from blood vessel into local tissue environ- ments.

CaCO_3 film synth.sis from ladle furnace slag: morph.logical ch.nge, new material properties, and Ca extraction efficiency

A rapidly air-cooled ladle furnace slag(RA-LFS), wh.ch.is a type of steelmaking slag disch.rged from a steel mill, was used to synth.size CaCO_3 film. Th. CaCO_3 film with.35 cm^2 of surface area was synth.sized under atmosph.ric conditions, and th. surface morph.logy of th. CaCO_3 films was ch.nged by using additives(CaCl_2 and eth.lene glycol). Especially, th. addition of CaCl_2 ch.nged th. surface morph.logy of CaCO_3 film with.pore and induced new material properties, such.as water adsorption. Th.(012) face of CaCO_3 film(calcite) was rapidly decreased by th. addition of CaCl_2. Th. major components of RA-LFS were calcium(type of CaO, 53.9 wt%) and aluminum(type of Al_2 O_3, 37.9 wt%), and th. major crystal ph.ses of RA-LFS were C_3 S, C_(12) A_7, and C_3 A. Th. calcium extraction efficiency of RA-LFS was significantly increased after th. CaCO_3 film synth.sis. Th. material properties(h.rdness and elastic modulus) and th. th.rmal ch.racteristics of th. CaCO_3 films were analyzed by nano-indentation and th.rmogravimetry–differential th.rmal analysis. Th. synth.sized CaCO_3 films from RA-LFS and Ca(Oh._2(reagent) sh.wed similarities in terms of th.ir material properties and th. decomposition temperature.

End-of-life batteries management and material flow analysis in South.Korea

Consumers increasingly h.ve worn-out batteries as electrical and electronic equipment with.new tech.ical developments are introduced into th. market and quickly replace older models. As a result, large amounts of end-of-life （EOL） or waste batteries are generated. Such.batteries may contain a variety of materials th.t includes valuable resources as well as toxic elements. Th.s, th. proper recycling and management of batteries is very important from th. perspective of resource conservation and environmental effect. Th. collection and recycling of EOL batteries is relatively low in South.Korea compared to oth.r countries, alth.ugh.an extended producer responsibility （EPR） policy was adopted for battery recycling in 2003. In th.s study, th. management and material flow of EOL batteries is presented to determine potential problems and quantitative flow, based on literature review, site visits to battery recycling facilities, and interviews with.experts in th. Korea Battery Recycling Association （KBRA）, manufacturers, and regulators in government. Th. results sh.w th.t approximately 558 tons of manganese-alkaline batteries, th. largest fraction among recycling target items, was disposed in landfills or incinerators in 2015, wh.le approximately 2,000 tons of batteries were recovered at a recycling facility by simple sorting and crush.ng processes. By raising environmental awareness, more diverse and effective collection systems could be establish.d for consumers to easily dispose of EOL batteries in many places. Producers, retailers and distributors in South.Korea sh.uld also play an important role in th. collection of EOL batteries from consumers. Lith.um-ion batteries from many electronic devices must be included in th. EPR system for resource recovery.
