Effects of surface energy and substrate on modulus determination of biological films by conical indentation

Micro-/nano-indentation has become prevalent in evaluating the mechanical characteristics of biological samples,such as cells and ***,the existing contact models describing conical indentation ignore the joint effects of surface energy and substrate,and consequently cannot accurately extract the Young's modulus of biological samples deposited on *** finite element methods,we examine the conical indentation of biological films on substrates while taking surface energy into *** on the dimensional analysis,the explicit relationship between load and indentation depth is achieved for films with their moduli varying from 0.001 to 100 times that of the *** the classical Sneddon's model was employed to analyze the load-depth data,the measured modulus could reach 18 times the real modulus for films on harder substrates,but only 4%of the real modulus for films on softer ***,in micro-/nano-indentations,neglecting the contribution of surface energy would result in an overestimation of the Young's modulus of films depending on the contact *** analytical expression provided here can be utilized to precisely deduce the mechanical characteristics of biological films deposited on substrate from the load and indentation depth data of a conical indentation.

Objective To assess the effectiveness, side effects, and acceptability of copper uterine cavity - shaped intrauterine devices （UCD） with and without indomethacin. Methods We used electronic search and hand search to identify relevant literatures. Included papers were systematically reviewed according to previous established guidelines. Results A total of 39 related papers were identified. Of them, 9papers were included in this review： 4 associated with medicated or non-medicated UCD200 （containing copper 200 mm^2） and 5 associated with medicated or non-medicated UCD300 （containing copper 300 mm^2）. The contraceptive effectiveness, cumulative one-year and two-year continuation rates＇ were similar between medicated UCD200, non-medicated UCD200 and TCu220C. The effectiveness of non-medicated UCD300 was similar to that of TCu220C and TCu200. The effectiveness of medicated UCD300 was similar to that of MLCu375 and TCu220C but lower than that of TCu38OA. The cumulative one-year, three-year and five-year continuation rates were similar between medicated, non-medicated UCD300 and TCu380A or MLCu375. The problem of bleeding was less common among medicated UCD users than among non-medicated devices. Conclusions Uterine cavity-shaped devices should continue to be used in the National Family Planning Proramme. However, priority should be given to the 300 mm^2 copper containing device. A large multicenter randomized comparative trial of UCD300 and TCu380A is needed.

Designing microstructurally stable FeCrAl alloys with excellent strength-ductility synergy is highly desir-able for their engineering ***,due to the preference nucleation of precipitates at grain boundaries(GBs),the improved precipitation strengthening of these alloys is usually accompanied by in-tergranular ***,we propose a novel thermomechanical processing route coupled with the Si alloying strategy via precipitation of coherent deformable Laves precipitates inside equiaxed fine-grains to achieve FeCrAl alloys with ultrahigh yield strength over∼992 MPa,excellent uniform elongation of∼7.6%at room temperature,and superior thermal stability at temperature∼1200℃.The Si alloying not only decreases the stacking fault energy of Laves precipitates favorable for their stacking-fault-mediated deformation but also hinders grain coarsening at 1200℃due to the Si-enrichment favorable for GB pin-ning *** results prove the possibility of achieving the collaborative enhancement of mutually exclusive properties in alloys,such as strength-ductility-thermal stability via nanoprecipitation engineer-ing,and offer a promising route to prepare dispersion-strengthened materials.

Promoting Reproductive Health among Newly Married Couples in Shanghai

Objective To explore the effect of health education promotion among newly married couples who need reproductive health knowledge and service. Methods An intervention study was conducted at three sub-districts, Xuhui district, Shanghai, which aimed to improve reproductive health of newly married couples. The main intervention activities included creating educational web pages, organizing participatory activities, distributing leaflets, and providing relevant counseling and technique service. Results After intervention, the knowledge of family planning and reproductive health and their sanitary habit for these newly married couples were much improved. Conclusion This project produced a model to improve reproductive health at sub-district level and this model can be expanded to provide relevant service to other groups of people.

A new Ni+Zr co-alloyed FeCrAl-ODS(oxide-dispersion-strengthened)ferritic alloy was fabricated by ball-milling and *** electron microscopy and atom probe tomography,the dispersive formation of high density core-shelled nano-particles of various sizes was confirmed with a common B2-NiAl *** which,median-sized nano-particles(20-50 nm)typically have an Y_(4)Al_(2)O_(9)nano-core ofdingly,the new alloy achieved an excellent combination of strength and ductility at high temperatures.

Frozen ground(FG)plays an important role in global and regional climates and environments through changes in land freeze-thaw processes,which have been conducted mainly in different ***,the changes in land surface freeze-thaw processes under climate change on a global scale are still *** on ERA5-Land hourly land skin temperature data,this study evaluated changes in the global FG area,global land surface first freeze date(FFD),last freeze date(LFD)and frost-free period(FFP)from 1950 to *** results show that the current FG areas(1991-2020 mean)in the Northern Hemisphere(NH),Southern Hemisphere(SH),and globe are 68.50×10^(6),9.03×10^(6),and 77.53×10^(6)km^(2),which account for 72.4%,26.8%,and 60.4%of the exposed land(excluding glaciers,ice sheets,and water bodies)in the NH,SH and the globe,respectively;further,relative to 1951-1980,the FG area decreased by 1.9%,8.8%,and 2.8%,*** FG at lower latitudes degrades to intermittently FG,and intermittently FG degrades to non-frozen ground,which caused the global FG boundary to retreat to higher latitudes from 1950 to *** annual FG areas in the NH,SH,and globe all show significant decreasing trends(p<0.05)from 1950 to 2020 at-0.32×10^(6),-0.22×10^(6),and-0.54×10^(6)km^(2)per decade,*** FFP prolongation in the NH is mainly influenced by LFD advance,while in the SH it is mainly controlled by FFD *** prolongation trend of FFP in the NH(1.34 d per decade)is larger than that in the SH(1.15 d per decade).

A novel D–π –A structure and near–infrared fluorescent probe(DCITT) with high polarity sensitivity and membrane targeting was reported. The fluorescent spectra of DCITT were polarity dependent and Stokes shift was greater than 300 nm. Due to its high fluorescence quantum yield, low cytotoxicity and photostability, DCITT could be used as a labeling probe in multicellular organisms. In particular, DCITT effectively distinguished tumor cells from normal cells because it could specifically light up the cancer cells membrane based on strong red fluorescence for a long time. On this basis, a polar–sensitive cell membrane probe is developed to differentiate tumor cells from normal cells, which provides an idea and method for the early diagnosis of tumor at cellular level.

Layered rock mass is a type of engineering rock mass with sound mechanical anisotropy,which is generally unfavorable to the stability of underground *** investigate the strength anisotropy of layered rock,the Mohr-Coulomb and Hoek-Brown criteria are introduced to establish the two transverse isotropic strength criteria based on Jaeger's single weak plane theory and maximum axial strain theory,and parameter determination ***,the sensitivity of strength parameters(K 1,K 2,and K 3)that are used to characterize the anisotropy strength of non-sliding failure involved in the strength criteria and confining pressure are *** results demonstrate that strength parameters K 1 and K 2 affect the strength of layered rock samples at all bedding angles except for the bedding angle of 90°and the angle range that can cause the shear sliding failure along the bedding *** strength of samples at any bedding angle decreases with increasing K 1,whereas the opposite is for K *** for bedding angles of 0°and 90°and the bedding angle range that can cause the shear sliding along the bedding plane,K 3 has an impact on the strength of rock samples with other bedding angles that the specimens'strength increases with increase of K *** addition,the strength of the rock sample increases as confining pressure ***,the uniaxial and triaxial tests of chlorite schist samples were carried out to verify and evaluate the strength criteria proposed in the *** shows that the predicted strength is in good agreement with the experimental *** test the applicability of the strength criterion,the strength data of several types of rock in the literature are ***,a comparison is made between the fitting effects of the two strength criteria and other available criteria for layered rocks.
