Telescopes with large aspherical primary mirrors collect more light and are therefore sought after by astronomers. Instead of using a single large one-piece mirror, smaller segments can be assembled into a useable telescopic primary. Because the segments must fit together to create the effect of a single mirror, segmented optics present unique challenges to the fabrication and testing that are absent in monolithic optics. A dispersed fringe sensor （DFS） using a broadband point source is an efficient method for cophasing and is also highly automated and robust. Unlike the widely adopted Shack- Hartmann Wavefront sensor and curvature wavefront sensor with edge sensors for calibration of relative pistons, DFS can estimate the piston between segments by only using the spectrum formed by the transmissive grating＇s dispersion, and therefore can replace the edge sensors, which are difficult to calibrate. We introduce the theory of the DFS and Dispersed Hartmann Sensor （DHS） for further utilization of the coarse phasing method of DFS. According to the theory, we bring out the preliminary system design of the cophasing experimental system based on DFS and DHS which is now established in our institute. Finally, a summary is reached.

The relationship between rangeland grasshopper density and soil type as well as topsoil moisture content was analyzed with in situ soil data collected in the Qinghai Lake region of China. grasshoppers were confined mainly to the areas with light chestnut soil or chestnut soil, and very few were found in areas with subalpine meadow soil. grasshoppers were almost absent from other types of soil, such as aeolian soil. In addition, analysis of 14 soil samples collected in the study area revealed that a soil moisture content between 18 and 32 g kg-1 coincided spatially with a higher density of grasshoppers, with the grasshopper density averaging 15 head m-2. In areas with a soil moisture content above 42 g kg-1 or below 10 g kg-1, grasshopper density dropped to less than 5 head m-2. These indicated that for the study area, soils with very high or very low moisture contents were not conducive to the survival of grasshoppers.

Two special rare earth elements cerium and europium were chosen to conduct chemical modification of the BaTiO3 structure. The cold-pressing ceramic processing technique was used to prepare barium titanate ceramics doped with Ce at Ti sites and with Eu at Ba sites on the base of formulas Ba （ Ti1 -x Cex ） O3 （x = 0. 05, 0. 10 ）（CBT） and （ Ba1-y Euy ） Ti1-x/8O3 （ y = 0. 05, 0. 10）（EBT）. Associated with structures and microstructures, the effects of cerium and europium doping on dielectric properties of BaTiO3 ceramics were discussed. The CBT ceramics exhibit a pseudocubic perovskite structure, while the EBT ceramics exhibit a tetragonal perovskite structure with the exception of the existence of a small percentage of the Eu2Ti2O7 phase. The Curie peak of BaTiO3 shifts towards room temperature at rates of 3 ℃/mol Ce atoms and 10 ℃/mol Eu atoms（ Eu≤5% ）, respectively. Compared with the CBT ceramics, the EBT ceramics show significant advantages, such as a narrow fine grain size distribution（ 1 μm）, a lower porosity and a higher density（5.85 g/cm^3）, more stable dielectric-temperature dependence（ ε′= 1600-1800 at t 〈 50℃ ） and a lower dissipation factor（〈 0. 05 ）. The stability of dielectric constant with frequency in BaTiO3 can extend to 107 Hz due to Ce and Eu doping.

Immunization of Male Mice with a New Recombinant gnRH Fusion Protein Reduces the Testicular Function

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of an immunogenic maltose-binding protein-gonadotropin releasing hormone （gnRH-6-MBP） using genetic engineering. The synthetic mammalian tandem repeated gnRH hexamer gene was inserted into the expression plasmid pMAL-c2x. Recombinant gnRH-6-MBP protein was over- expressed in *** strain BL21. Amylose resin with affinity chromatograph was used to purify target protein. The reactiongenicity of fusion protein was identified by indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）, and the antigenicity and biological effects of gnRH-6-MBP were tested in mice. In the experiment, 20 male Kunming white mice of 20 d old were randomly divided into treatment and control group. Ten mice were immunized with 100 μg gnRH-6-MBP administered subcutaneously （s.c.） thrice at 2-week intervals with gnRH-6-MBP. Mice were sacrificed after 3 weeks following the booster injection, the testis was removed, weighed and measured, and the histological structure was observed. The reactiongenicity of fusion protein to gnRH antibody was much higher than the control. Active immunization against gnRH-6-MBP reduced remarkably （P 〈 0.01） the length and weight of the testis, and shortened the girth and width of the testis （P 〈 0.05）, and suppressed testicular spermatogenesis compared to the control mice. These results indicate that the recombinant gnRH-6-MBP acted as a strong immunogen and caused atrophy of the testis.

In this work,we theoretically unlock the potential of Ho^(3+)-doped InF3 fiber for efficient~3.2μm laser generation(from the ^(5)F_(4),^(5)S_(2)→^(5)F_(5) transition),by employing a novel dual-wavelength pumping scheme at 1150 nm and 980 nm,for the first *** clad-coupled 1150 nm pumping of 5 W,~3.2μm power of 3.6 W has been predicted with the optical-to-optical efficiency of 14.4%.Further efficient power scaling,however,is blocked by the output saturation with 980 nm *** alleviate this behavior,the cascaded ^(5)I_(5)→^(5)I_(6) transition,targeting~3.9μm,has been activated simultaneously,therefore accelerating the population circulation between the laser upper level ^(5)F_(4),^(5)S_(2) and long-lived ^(5)I_(6) level under 980 nm *** a result,enhanced~3.2μm power of 4.68 W has been obtained with optical-to-optical efficiency of 15.6%.Meanwhile the~3.9μm laser,yielding power of 2.76 W with optical-to-optical efficiency of 9.2%,is theoretically achievable as well with a moderate heat load,of which the performance is even better than the prior experimentally and theoretically reported Ho^(3+)-doped InF3 fiber lasers emitting at~3.9μm *** work demonstrates a versatile platform for laser generation at~3.2μm and~3.9μm,thus providing the new opportunities for many potential applications,e.g.,polymer processing,infrared countermeasures,and free-space communications.

Early Triassic microbialites from the Changxing Region of Zhejiang Province,South China

Microbialites, often considered as a signal of extreme marine environment, are common in the Lower Triassic strata of South China where they flourished in the aftermath of the end-Permian mass extinction. Early Triassic microbialite facies are known to vary palaeogeographically, perhaps due to differing climates, ocean chemistry, and water depths. This paper provides the first record of a brief, but spectacular development of microbialites in the aftermath of the end-Permian mass extinction at Panjiazhuang section, Changxing Region of Zhejiang Province (eastern South China). Here, the Upper Permian Changxing Formation comprises typical shallow platform facies rich in calcareous algae and foraminifera, the development of which was terminated by the major end-Permian regression. A 3.4-m-thick microbialite began to form at the onset of the transgression in the earliest Triassic. The microbialite at Panjiazhuang section is composed of thrombolite that contains abundant calcified cyanobacteria, small gastropods, microconchid tubes and ostracods, representing a low-diversity shallow marine community in the aftermath of the end-Permian crisis. The microbialites are succeeded by thin-bedded micrites bearing thin-shelled bivalves, which record a rapid sea-level rise in the Early Triassic. Abundant populations of small pyrite framboids are observed in the upper part of the microbialites and the overlying thin-bedded micrites, suggesting that dysoxic water conditions developed at that time. The appearance of microbialites near the Permian-Triassic boundary (PTB) at Panjiazhuang section was the result of peculiar marine conditions following the end-Permian regression, whilst their disappearance was due to the increasing water depth and the development of dysoxia.

This study presents the spatial and temporal structures of the decadal variability of the Pacific from an extended control run of a coupled global climate model (gCM).The gCM used was version-g2.0 of the Flexible global Ocean Atmosphere Land System (FgOALS-g2.0) developed at LASg/*** gCM FgOALS-g2.0 re-produces similar spatial-temporal structures of sea surface temperature (SST) as observed in the Pacific decadal os-cillation (PDO) with a significant period of approximately 14 ***,the PDO signals were closely related to the decadal change both in the upper-ocean temperature anomalies and in the atmospheric *** present results suggest that warm SST anomalies along the equator relax the trade winds,causing the SSTs to warm even more in the eastern equatorial Pacific,which is a positive ***,warm SST anomalies along the equator force characteristic off-equa-torial wind stress curl anomalies,inducing much more poleward transport of heat,which is a negative *** upper-ocean meridional heat transport,which is asso-ciated with the PDO phase transition,links the equatorial to the off-equatorial Pacific Ocean,acting as a major mechanism responsible for the tropical Pacific decadal ***,the positive and negative feedbacks working together eventually result in the decadal oscilla-tion in the Pacific.
