Strategy for suppressing abnormal grain growth of ZK60 Mg alloy during solution by pre-compression:A quasi-in-situ study

Abnormal grain growth(AGG)easily takes place in Mg alloys during high-temperature solutions,result-ing in deterioration of mechanical properties.Hence,the compression prior to solution(pre-compression)was conducted to suppress AGG,and the microstructure evolution as well as suppressing mechanisms was investigated based on quasi-in-situ analysis.After compression along the transverse direction,//ED grains preferentially nucleated and rapidly grew up,and the initial//ED texture was weakened.Two grain growth modes of heat-induced and strain-induced grain boundary migrations were found.The former was attributed to the high interfacial energy of grain boundaries with large curvature.The latter consumed the adjacent grains with high storage energy,forming abnormal grains with irregular shapes.The compression with a reduction>6%could obviously suppress AGG.The suppressing effects were mainly attributed to weakening the size advantage of//ED grains,increasing nucleation,reducing grain boundary character distribution,and redistributing storage energy distribution.After 12%compression along the transverse direction,30°misorientation of//ED grains and high energy grain boundaries were reduced.The{10-12}tensile twins and{10-15}high index twins induced by com-pression increased the nucleation of static recrystallization.Beside,compression introduces high-density dislocations,which also contributed to suppressing AGG behavior during solution.

Chord length sampling correction analysis for dispersion fuel in Monte Carlo simulation

Dispersion fuels,knowned for their excellent safety performance,are widely used in advanced reactors,such as hightemperature gas-cooled reactors.Compared with deterministic methods,the Monte Carlo method has more advantages in the geometric modeling of stochastic media.The explicit modeling method has high computational accuracy and high computational cost.The chord length sampling(CLS)method can improve computational efficiency by sampling the chord length during neutron transport using the matrix chord length?s probability density function.This study shows that the excluded-volume effect in realistic stochastic media can introduce certain deviations into the CLS.A chord length correction approach is proposed to obtain the chord length correction factor by developing the Particle code based on equivalent transmission probability.Through numerical analysis against reference solutions from explicit modeling in the RMC code,it was demonstrated that CLS with the proposed correction method provides good accuracy for addressing the excludedvolume effect in realistic infinite stochastic media.

Dynamic RNA methylation modifications and their regulatory role in mammalian development and diseases

Among over 170 different types of chemical modifications on RNA nucleobases identified so far,RNA methylation is the major type of epitranscriptomic modifications existing on almost all types of RNAs,and has been demonstrated to participate in the entire process of RNA metabolism,including transcription,pre-mRNA alternative splicing and maturation,mRNA nucleus export,mRNA degradation and stabilization,mRNA translation.Attributing to the development of high-throughput detection technologies and the identification of both dynamic regulators and recognition proteins,mechanisms of RNA methylation modification in regulating the normal development of the organism as well as various disease occurrence and developmental abnormalities upon RNA methylation dysregulation have become increasingly clear.Here,we particularly focus on three types of RNA methylations:N6-methylcytosine （m6A）,5-methylcytosine （m5C）,and N7-methyladenosine （m7G）.We summarize the elements related to their dynamic installment and removal,specific binding proteins,and the development of high-throughput detection technologies.Then,for a comprehensive understanding of their biological significance,we also overview the latest knowledge on the underlying mechanisms and key roles of these three mRNA methylation modifications in gametogenesis,embryonic development,immune system development,as well as disease and tumor progression.

The Extension Dimension of Subcategories and Recollements of Abelian Categories

We investigate the behavior of the extension dimension of subcategories of abelian categories under recollements.LetΛ',Λ,Λ"be art in algebras such that(modΛ',mod A,modΛ")is a recollement,and let D'and D"be subcategories of modΛand modΛ"respectively.For any n,m≥0,under some conditions,we get dimΩ^(k)(D)≤dimΩ^(n)(D')+dimΩ^(m)(D")+1,where k=max{m,n}and D is the subcategory of modΛglued by D'and D";moreover,we give a sufficient condition such that the converse inequality holds true.As applications,some results for Igusa-Todorov subcategories and syzygy finite sub categories are obtained.

Synthesis of Anti-Pancreatic Cancer Natural Product Majusculamide D and Analogues Reveals a Preliminary Structure-Activity Relationships

The total synthesis of majusculamide D(1)was achieved from commercially available materials.In addition,we synthesized eight analogues including three stereoisomers of majusculamide D that differ in the fatty acid chain.Six analogues including a simplified analogue 29 exhibited significant nanomolar-level IC50 values against Panc-1 cells in MTT assays.A preliminary SAR analysis indicated that the hydroxyl group at C10 and C2−C3 unsaturated double bond of majusculamide D were essential in maintaining the high activity against Panc-1 cells and the orientation of C40-Me and C42-Me groups was tolerable.

Adopting a nano-and micro-structuring approach to fully unleashing the genuine potential of electrode active material benefits in-depth understandings and research progress toward higher energy density electrochemical energy stor-age devices at all technology readiness levels.Due to various challenging issues,especially limited stability,nano-and micro-structured(NMS)electrodes undergo fast electrochemical performance degradation.The emerging NMS scaffold design is a pivotal aspect of many electrodes as it endows them with both robustness and electrochemical performance enhancement,even though it only occupies comple-mentary and facilitating components for the main mechanism.However,extensive efforts are urgently needed toward optimizing the stereoscopic geometrical design of NMS scaffolds to minimize the volume ratio and maximize their functionality to fulfill the ever-increasing dependency and desire for energy power source supplies.This review will aim at highlighting these NMS scaffold design strategies,summariz-ing their corresponding strengths and challenges,and thereby outlining the potential solutions to resolve these challenges,design principles,and key perspectives for future research in this field.Therefore,this review will be one of the earliest reviews from this viewpoint.

Advanced organic electrode materials for aqueous rechargeable batteries

Organic electrode materials take advantages of potentially sustainable production and structural tunability compared with present commercial inorganic electrode materials.However,their applications in traditional rechargeable batteries with nonaqueous electrolytes suffer from the premature failure and safety concerns.In comparison,aqueous rechargeable batteries based on organic electrode materials have received extensive attentions in recent years for low-cost and sustainable energy storage systems due to their inherent safety.This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary on the recent progress in advanced organic electrode materials for aqueous rechargeable batteries.We start from the overview of working principles and general design strategies of organic electrode materials in aqueous rechargeable batteries.Then the research advances of organic electrode materials in various aqueous rechargeable batteries are highlighted in terms of charge carriers(monovalent ions,multivalent ions,and anions).We emphasized the characteristics of organic electrode materials in various charge carriers.Finally,the critical challenges and future efforts of aqueous organic rechargeable batteries are discussed.More organic electrode materials with better electronic conductivity and fast reaction kinetics are still needed to build advanced aqueous batteries for commercial applications.

A Hybrid Level Set Optimization Design Method of Functionally Graded Cellular Structures Considering Connectivity

With the continuous advancement in topology optimization and additive manufacturing(AM)technology,the capability to fabricate functionally graded materials and intricate cellular structures with spatially varying microstructures has grown significantly.However,a critical challenge is encountered in the design of these structures–the absence of robust interface connections between adjacent microstructures,potentially resulting in diminished efficiency or macroscopic failure.A Hybrid Level Set Method(HLSM)is proposed,specifically designed to enhance connectivity among non-uniform microstructures,contributing to the design of functionally graded cellular structures.The HLSM introduces a pioneering algorithm for effectively blending heterogeneous microstructure interfaces.Initially,an interpolation algorithm is presented to construct transition microstructures seamlessly connected on both sides.Subsequently,the algorithm enables the morphing of non-uniform unit cells to seamlessly adapt to interconnected adjacent microstructures.The method,seamlessly integrated into a multi-scale topology optimization framework using the level set method,exhibits its efficacy through numerical examples,showcasing its prowess in optimizing 2D and 3D functionally graded materials(FGM)and multi-scale topology optimization.In essence,the pressing issue of interface connections in complex structure design is not only addressed but also a robust methodology is introduced,substantiated by numerical evidence,advancing optimization capabilities in the realm of functionally graded materials and cellular structures.

The effects of Co and Fe co-doping Ni-Mn-In alloy on the phase stability,lattice parameters,mag-netic properties,and electronic structures are systematically investigated by using the first-principles calculations.Results indicate that Fe atoms replace the excess Mn2 atoms by direct and indirect coex-istence(Fe→Mn 2 and Fe→In→Mn2);Co substitutes the Ni atoms by direct substitution(Co→Ni)for the Ni-Mn-In alloy.The austenites all exhibit the ferromagnetic(FM)state for the studied composi-tions.The NM martensites are in the ferrimagnetic(FIM-1)state for the Ni_(2)Mn_(1.5)In_(0.5),Ni_(2)Mn_(1.25)In_(0.5)Fe 0.25,Ni_(1.75)Mn_(1.5)In_(0.5)Co_(0.25),and Ni_(1.75)Mn_(1.25)In_(0.5)Co_(0.25)Fe 0.25 alloys,while the other compositions are in the FM state.The phase stability of austenite and martensite decreases with increasing Co and Fe co-doping.A magnetic-structural coupling transition occurs at x<0.25 and y<0.25.The Ni_(1.91)Mn_(1.5)In_(0.5)Co_(0.08)and Ni_(1.91)Mn_(1.42)In_(0.5)Co_(0.08)Fe_(0.08)alloys exhibit an A→6M→NM transformation,accompanied by a magnetic transition.When Co and Fe are co-doped,the hybridization strength between Co and Fe is greater than that between Co/Fe and Mn.The enhancement of magnetocaloric and elastocaloric effects is favored by larger magnetization difference(△M)and lattice volume change(△V/V_(0)).Based on the calculated phase stability,magneto-structure coupling,△V/V 0 and c/a ratio,one can predict that the Ni_(2)-x Mn_(1.5)-y In_(0.5)Co x Fe y alloy with Co content 0≤x≤0.25 and Fe content 0≤y≤0.05 is predicted to have good magneto-controlled functional behavior.

Formation and transformation of metastable LPSO building blocks clusters in Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloys by spinodal decomposition and heterogeneous nucleation

To study the formation and transformation mechanism of long-period stacked ordered(LPSO)structures,a systematic atomic scale analysis was conducted for the structural evolution of long-period stacked ordered(LPSO)structures in the Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy annealed at 300℃~500℃.Various types of metastable LPSO building block clusters were found to exist in alloy structures at different temperatures,which precipitate during the solidification and homogenization process.The stability of Zn/Y clusters is explained by the first principles of density functional theory.The LPSO structure is distinguished by the arrangement of its different Zn/Y enriched LPSO structural units,which comprises local fcc stacking sequences upon a tightly packed plane.The presence of solute atoms causes local lattice distortion,thereby enabling the rearrangement of Mg atoms in the different configurations in the local lattice,and local HCP-FCC transitions occur between Mg and Zn atoms occupying the nearest neighbor positions.This finding indicates that LPSO structures can generate necessary Schockley partial dislocations on specific slip surfaces,providing direct evidence of the transition from 18R to 14H.Growth of the LPSO,devoid of any defects and non-coherent interfaces,was observed separately from other precipitated phases.As a result,the precipitation sequence of LPSO in the solidification stage was as follows:Zn/Ycluster+Mg layers→various metastable LPSO building block clusters→18R/24R LPSO;whereas the precipitation sequence of LPSO during homogenization treatment was observed to be as follows:18R LPSO→various metastable LPSO building block clusters→14H LPSO.Of these,14H LPSO was found to be the most thermodynamically stable structure.
