Simulation of the extreme waves generated by typhoon Bolaven (1215) in the East China Sea and Yellow Sea

Record-breaking high waves occurred during the passage of the typhoon Bolaven（1215）（TYB） in the East China Sea（ECS） and Yellow Sea（YS） although its intensity did not reach the level of a super *** and directional wave measurements were made using a range of in-situ instruments mounted on an ocean tower and *** order to understand how such high waves with long duration occurred,analyses have been made through measurement and numerical *** winds were generated using the TC96 typhoon wind model with the best track data calibrated with the *** then the wind fields were blended with the reanalyzed synoptic-scale wind fields for a wave *** fields were simulated using WAM4.5 with adjustment of C_d for gust of winds and bottom friction for the study *** the accuracy of simulations is considerably enhanced,and the computed results are also in better agreement with measured data than *** is found that the extremely high waves evolved as a result of the superposition of distant large swells and high wind seas generated by strong winds from the front/right quadrant of the typhoon *** the typhoon moved at a speed a little slower than the dominant wave group velocity in a consistent direction for two days,the wave growth was significantly enhanced by strong wind input in an extended fetch and non-linear interaction.

As a part of the Multinational Genome Sequencing Project of Brassica rapa, linkage group R9 and R3 were sequenced using a bacterial artificial chromosome （BAC） by BAC strategy. The current physical contigs are expected to cover approximately 90% euchromatins of both chromosomes. As the project progresses, BAC selection for sequence extension becomes more limited because BAC libraries are restriction enzyme-specific. To support the project, a random sheared fosmid library was constructed. The library consists of 97536 clones with average insert size of approximately 40 kb corresponding to seven genome equivalents, assuming a Chinese cabbage genome size of 550 Mb. The library was screened with primers designed at the end of sequences of nine points of scaffold gaps where BAC clones cannot be selected to extend the physical contigs. The selected positive clones were end-sequenced to check the overlap between the fosmid clones and the adjacent BAC clones. Nine fosmid clones were selected and fully sequenced. The sequences revealed two completed gap filling and seven sequence extensions, which can be used for further selection of BAC clones confirming that the fosmid library will facilitate the sequence completion of B. rapa.

Assessment of the exposure dose for workers is crucial to protecting workers from the radiological *** preliminary study estimates the potential radiological exposure for a soil remediation worker at a nuclear decommissioning site contaminated with Cs-137 in Korea,and then calculates the maximum workable soil concentration to comply with the occupational dose constraint of 20 mSv per *** Korean characteristic data,detailed exposure scenarios for workers by the type of work,and relevant exposure pathways were used in the dose *** a result,the most severe exposure-induced work type was identified as the excavator operation with an annual individual dose of 5.92×10^-5 mSv for a unit concentration of soil,from which the derived maximum workable soil concentration was 3.38×105 Bq/***,dose contribution by each exposure pathway was found to be decreased in the following order:external radiation exposure,soil ingestion,dust inhalation,and skin *** results of this study are expected to be used effectively to optimize radiation protection for workers and establish appropriate work procedures for future site remediation.

BACKGROUND Polymyxin B hemoperfusion(PMX-HP)has been used as a treatment for intraabdominal septic shock by absorbing and removing endotoxins of gram-negative *** To investigate the clinical efficacy of PMX-HP in patients with gram-negative septic shock who underwent abdominal *** From January 2012 to December 2018,patients who had septic shock secondary to peritonitis were *** were classified into PMX-HP treated and control groups based on postopreative intervention using *** clinical outcomes were compared using 1:1 propensity score matching methods to balance the overall distribution between the two *** After propensity score matching,40 patients were analyzed(20 patients in the PMX group and 20 patients in the control group).The scores of total Sequential Organ Failure Assessment(SOFA)score,renal SOFA and coagulation SOFA were significantly improved in the PMX group but not in the control group.(from 11.2±5.8 to 4.7±3.5 in PMX group vs 10.0±4.0 to 8.7±7.3 in control group,P=0.047 from 2.6±1.0 to 0.7±1.0 in PMX group vs 2.6±1.5 to 2.8±1.6 in control group,P=0.000,from 1.6±1.5 to 1.3±1.3 in PMX group vs 1.2±1.2 to 2.8±1.8 in control group,P=0.014,respectively).Further,the length of intensive care unit(ICU)stay was significantly shorter in PMX ***,no statistically significant difference was found in ICU mortality(50%in PMX group vs 50%in control group).CONCLUSION PMX-HP is a feasible adjunct treatment for peritonitis in ICU patients with peritonitis for improved organ impairment and to stabilize *** would be helpful to enhance clinical outcomes especially in patients with complete elimination of the source of gram-negative bacilli infection by surgical procedure accompanied with conventional treatment of sepsis.

AIM: To determine the correlation between the hepatic venous pressure gradient and the endoscopic grade of esophageal ***: From September 2009 to March 2013, a total of 176 measurements of hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) were done in 146 patients. Each transjugular HVPG was measured twice, first using an end whole catheter (EH-HVPG), and then using a balloon catheter (B-HVPG). The HVPG was compared with the endoscopic grade of esophageal varices (according to the general rules for recording endoscopic findings of esophagogastric varices), which was recorded within a month of the measurement of ***: The study included 110 men and 36 women, with a mean age of 56.1 years (range, 43-76 years). The technical success rate of the pressure measurements was 100% and there were no complication related to the procedures. Mean HVPG was 15.3 mmHg as measured using the end hole catheter method and 16.5 mmHg as measured using the balloon catheter method. Mean HVPG (both EH-HVPG and B-HVPG) was not significantly different among patients with different characteristics, including sex and comorbid factors, except for cases with hepatocellular carcinoma (B-HVPG, P = 0.01; EH-HVPG, P = 0.02). Portal hypertension (> 12 mmHg HVPG) occurred in 66% of patients according to EH-HVPG and 83% of patients according to B-HVGP, and significantly correlated with Child’s status (B-HVPG, P < 0.000; EH-HVGP, P < 0.000) and esophageal varies observed upon endoscopy (EH-HVGP, P = 0.003; B-HVGP, P = 0.006). One hundred and thirty-five endoscopies were performed, of which 15 showed normal findings, 27 showed grade 1 endoscopic esophageal varices, 49 showed grade 2 varices, and 44 showed grade 3 varices. AIM:To investigate the changes in renal function at 12-24 mo in patients following sodium phosphate(NaP) preparation for screening ***:We carried out a retrospective study on the results from patients who received health check-up services as part of an employer-provided wellness program performed between August 2006 and May 2008 and who were followed up for 12-24 *** to screening colonoscopy,224 patients underwent bowel cleansing with NaP(NaP group) and 113 patients with polyethylene glycol(PEG group).The control group comprised 672 age-matched *** compared the changes in the creatinine levels and the glomerular filtration rates(GFRs) from baseline to 12-24 mo between the NaP,PEG,and control groups using two-way repeated measured analysis of *** addition,multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to assess the risk factors for a decreased ***:The baseline mean serum creatinine level in the NaP,PEG,and control groups was 1.12 ± 0.15,1.12 ± 0.16,and 1.12 ± 0.15 mg/dL,which increased to 1.15 ± 0.15,1.15 ± 0.18,and 1.15 ± 0.15 mg/dL,respectively,after 12-24 *** baseline mean GFR in the NaP,PEG,and control groups was 69.0 ± 7.7,68.9 ± 8.0,and 69.6 ± 6.7 mL/min per 1.73 m2,which decreased to 66.5 ± 7.8,66.5 ± 8.3,and 67.4 ± 6.4 mL/min per 1.73 m2,respectively,after 12-24 *** changes in serum creatinine levels and GFRs were not significantly between the NaP,PEG,and control groups(P = 0.992 and P = 0.233,respectively).Using multivariate linear regression analysis,only the baseline GFR was associated with the change in GFR(P < 0.001).Indeed,the bowel preparations were not associated with the change in GFR(P = 0.297).CONCLUSION:NaP bowel preparation in subjects with normal renal function was not associated with renal injury,and NaP can thus be used safely for screening colonoscopy.
