Conservation genomics of the critically endangered Chinese pangolin

The Chinese pangolin(Manis pentadactyla,MP)has been extensively exploited and is now on the brink of extinction,but its population structure,evolutionary history,and adaptive potential are ***,we analyzed 94 genomes from three subspecies of the Chinese pangolin and identified three distinct genetic clusters(MPA,MPB,and MPC),with MPB further divided into MPB1 and MPB2 *** divergence of these populations was driven by past climate *** MPB2 and MPC,recent human activities have caused dramatic population decline and small population size as well as increased inbreeding,but not decrease in genomic variation and increase in genetic load probably due to strong gene flow;therefore,it is crucial to strengthen in situ habitat management for these two *** contrast,although human activities have a milder impact on MPA,it is at high risk of extinction due to long-term contraction and isolation,and genetic rescue is urgently ***1 exhibited a relatively healthy population status and can potentially serve as a source ***,our findings provide novel insights into the conservation of the Chinese pangolin and biogeography of the mammals of eastern Asia.

Hydrogel dressings on neurotrophic keratitis in an experimental animal model

AIM:To investigate the therapeutic effects of hydrogel dressings on neurotrophic keratitis in ***:Male Wistar rats,aged 42–56d,were randomly divided into control,experimental,and treatment groups,each consisting of five *** experimental and treatment groups underwent neurotrophic keratitis modeling in both *** successful modeling,biomedical hydrogels formed with polyvinyl alcohol and polyvinyl pyrrolidone were used in treatment group for *** irritation response and keratitis index scores,Schirmer’s test,tear film break-up time(BUT),sodium fluorescein staining,and hematoxylin and eosin(HE)staining were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the ***:The neurotrophic keratitis model was successfully established in rats with severe ophthalmic nerve injury,characterized by keratitis,ocular irritation,reduced tear secretion measured by decreased BUT and Schirmer test values,corneal epithelial loss,and disorganized collagen fibers in the stromal *** treatment with hydrogel dressings,significant improvements were observed in keratitis scores and ocular irritation symptoms in model *** the recovery of tear secretion,as measured by the Schirmer’s test,did not show statistical differences,BUT was significantly *** staining confirmed a reduction in the extent of corneal epithelial loss after *** staining revealed the restoration of the structural disorder in both the epithelial and stromal layers to a certain ***:Hydrogel dressing reduces ocular surface irritation,improves tear film stability,and promotes the repair and restoration of damaged epithelial cells by maintaining a moist and clean environment on the ocular surface in the rat model.

Potato seed-metering monitoring and improved miss-seeding catching-up compensation control system using spatial capacitance sensor

The congenital yield reduction caused by miss-seeding in spoon-type seed-metering device of small and medium-sized potato planter is *** on the physical mechanism of different measured capacitance values between two fixed capacitor plates with different media,a miss-seeding detection scheme based on a spatial capacitance sensor is proposed first.A simple and efficient spatial capacitance sensor that can obtain as large capacitance measurement value as possible is designed,and a dual CPU coordinated seed-monitoring and compensation control system architecture is ***7745 is selected for the capacitance measure of the spatial capacitance sensor,and the code of grating encoder is also recorded at the same ***,when each potato spoon passing through the space surrounded by the capacitor plates,the maximum net capacitance fluctuation and its corresponding position can be acquired.A suitable threshold can distinguish between normal-seeding and miss-seeding ***,it should be emphasized that,this monitoring system only requires one monitoring ***,based on obtained information,an improved miss-seeding catching-up compensation plan is put *** utilizing the powerful memory capability of the CPU,this system does not need to complete compensation immediately after the miss-seeding ***,the miss-seeding information and the location of the accident can be just marked in advance,and only when the opportunity arrives,can the miss-seeding catching-up compensation be truly *** this way,the position of the seed-monitoring points can be free from restriction,and the control strategy can therefore be significantly *** soil tank test data showed that,the identification accuracy of the miss-seeding detection system was not less than 94%.When the seed-metering chain speeds are 0.2,0.3,and 0.4 m/s,the average success rates of the miss-seeding compensation system are 94.32%,83.65%,and 75.00%,respectively.T

Breeding Asian seabass to increase survival against big belly disease and growth

Asian seabass(Lates calcarifer)is an important foodfish *** has been cultured in Singapore since the 1980s.A selective breeding program to improve growth,meat quality and disease resistance has been ongoing in Singapore since *** 2012,outbreaks of the big belly disease(BBD)occurred in two batches of offspring generated by a mass-cross among F1 brooders in a *** the outbreaks,only 437 survived in 6000 F2 *** parentage analysis with 10 microsatellites revealed that four parents(F1)produced high percentage of offspring that survived the BBD ***-two BBD survivor offspring(F2)were selected based on their growth performance at 90 days post hatch(dph),family origin and allelic *** were used as brooders to generate *** a period of five years,these F2 brooders produced six batches of offspring,where no outbreak of BBD *** the same period,outbreaks of BBD occurred in 4 out of 18 batches produced by F2 brooders selected for growth,with mortality rates ranging from 85.1%to 95.4%.In F3,the average body weight(57.1±1.09 g,n=3068)of the line for BBD survival was slightly lower than that(60.6±2.29 g,n=4280)of the line for growth at 90 *** both lines,the body weight of F3 was much higher than that(46.90±0.19 g,n=12117)of *** genetic diversity in the line for BBD survival(F3)was much lower than that in F3 line for growth due to small founder *** data indicate that the selection of BBD survival during BBD outbreaks using molecular parentage analysis is effective to reduce BBD *** further reduction of genetic diversity is essential in the line selected for increased survival against BBD.

Impacts of high temperature,relative air humidity,and vapor pressure deficit on the seed set of contrasting maize genotypes during flowering

Heat stress is a major constraint to current and future maize production at the global *** and female reproductive organs both play major roles in increasing seed set under heat stress at flowering,but their relative contributions to seed set are *** this study,a 2-year field experiment including three sowing dates in each year and 20 inbred lines was *** set,kernel number per ear,and grain yield were all reduced by more than 80%in the third sowing dates compared to the first sowing *** viability,silk emergence ratio,and anthesis-silking interval were the key determinants of seed set under heat stress;and their correlation coefficients were 0.89^(***),0.65^(***),and-0.72^(***),*** pressure deficit(VPD)and relative air humidity(RH)both had significant correlations with pollen viability and the silk emergence *** RH can alleviate the impacts of heat on maize seed set by maintaining high pollen viability and a high silk emergence *** a warming climate from 2020 to 2050,VPD will decrease due to the increased *** on their pollen viability and silk emergence ratios,the 20 genotypes fell into four different *** group with high pollen viability and a high silk emergence ratio performed better under heat stress,and their performance can be further improved by combining the improved flowering pattern traits.

Three-stage niobium mineralization at Bayan.Obo, China

The Chinese Bayan.Obo deposit is a world-class rare earth element(REE) deposit with considerable niobium(Nb) and iron(Fe) resources. A complete genetic understanding on all metals is fundamental for establishing genetic models at Bayan.Obo. With extensive research being focused on REE enrichment, the timing and controls of Nb enrichment remain unresolved at Bayan.Obo, which is mainly due to the challenges in dating, i.e. multistage thermal events, fine-grained minerals with complex textures and the rare occurrence of uranium-enriched minerals with mature dating methods. Based on robust geological and petrographic frameworks, here we conducted ion probe uranium-lead(U-Pb) dating of ferrocolumbite to unravel the timing, hence the genesis of Nb mineralization. Three types of hydrothermal ferrocolumbites—key Nb-bearing minerals—are identified based on their textures and mineral assemblages. They yield U-Pb ages of 1312 ± 47 Ma(n = 99), 438 ± 7 Ma(n = 93), and 268 ± 5 Ma(n = 19), respectively. In line with deposit geology, we tentatively link the first, second and third stage Nb mineralization to Mesoproterozoic carbonatite magmatism, ubiquitous early Paleozoic hydrothermal activity, and Permian granitic magmatism, respectively. While quantifying the contribution of metal endowment from each stage requires further investigation, our new dates highlight that multi-stage mineralization is critical for Nb enrichment at Bayan.Obo, which may also have implications for the enrichment mechanism of Nb in REE deposits in general.

The optimal atropine concentration for myopia control in Chinese children: a systematic review and network Metaanalysis

AIM:To figure out whether various atropine dosages may slow the progression of myopia in Chinese kids and teenagers and to determine the optimal atropine concentration for effectively slowing the progression of ***:A systematic search was conducted across the Cochrane Library,PubMed,Web of Science,EMBASE,CNKI,CBM,VIP,and Wanfang database,encompassing literature on slowing progression of myopia with varying atropine concentrations from database inception to January 17,*** extraction and quality assessment were performed,and a network Meta-analysis was executed using Stata version 14.0 *** were visually represented through ***:Fourteen papers comprising 2475 cases were included;five different concentrations of atropine solution were *** network Meta-analysis,along with the surface under the cumulative ranking curve(SUCRA),showed that 1%atropine(100%)>0.05%atropine(74.9%)>0.025%atropine(51.6%)>0.02%atropine(47.9%)>0.01%atropine(25.6%)>control in refraction change and 1%atropine(98.7%)>0.05%atropine(70.4%)>0.02%atropine(61.4%)>0.025%atropine(42%)>0.01%atropine(27.4%)>control in axial length(AL)***:In Chinese children and teenagers,the five various concentrations of atropine can reduce the progression of *** the network Meta-analysis showed that 1%atropine is the best one for controlling refraction and AL change,there is a high incidence of adverse effects with the use of 1%***,we suggest that 0.05%atropine is optimal for Chinese children to slow myopia progression.

SiGe-based thermoelectric(TE)materials have gained increasing interests due to their low maintenance costs,environmental friendliness and long ***,the intrinsically high thermal conductivity of Si-based materials also results in poor TE *** this investigation,a zirconia(ZrO_(2))composite strategy was applied to an n-type SiGe alloy,tremendously elevating its TE *** mechanical alloying and spark plasma sintering(SPS)processes,the ZrO_(2)induced the formation of nanopores in the SiGe matrix via phosphorus ***,such increase in porosity enhanced the phonon scattering and dramatically suppressed lattice thermal conductivity,from 2.83 to 1.59 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1)at 873 ***,reduced phosphorus doping led to an increase in Seebeck coefficients and a relatively minor decrease in electrical conductivity,The power factor didn't deteriorate significantly,either,as its maximum of~3.43 mW·m^(-1-)K^(-2)was achieved at 873 K with(Si_(0.8)Ge_(0.2))_(0.097)P_(0.03)(ZrO_(2))_(0.003).In short,a peak figure of merit(ZT)of~1.27 at 873 K and an average ZT~0.7 from 323 to 873 K were *** study demonstrates that the electrical and thermal transportation of SiGe material can be synergistically tuned by compositing ZrO_(2),illustrating a novel strategy to optimize the TE properties of bulk materials.

The Dahongshan Group,situated at the southwestern margin of the yan.tze Block,represents a geological unit characterized by relatively high-grade metamorphism in the *** paper investigates the garnet-biotite schist from the Laochanghe Formation of the Dahongshan Group,employing an integrated approach that includes petrological analysis,phase equilibrium modeling,and zircon U-Pb *** schist is mainly composed of garnet,biotite,plagioclase,quartz,rutile,and *** equilibrium modeling revealed the peak metamorphic conditions of 8-9 kbar and 635-675°*** further integrating the prograde metamorphic profile of garnet and geothermobarometric results,a clockwise P-T metamorphic evolution path is constructed,which includes an increase in temperature and pressure during the prograde ***-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating and zircon Ti thermometry constrains the post-peak metamorphic age of 831.2±7.2 *** with previously reported results,it is revealed that the southwestern margin of the yan.tze Block experienced a large-scale regional metamorphism during the Neoproterozoic(890-750 Ma),which is related to the collisional orogenic *** may be associated with the late-stage assembly of the Rodinia supercontinent or with local compression and subduction processes during the breakup of the Rodinia supercontinent.

In this study, a high-carbon nano-bainitic GCr15Si1Mo bearing steel was investigated. Specifically, the effects of content and size of undissolved carbides on the microstructure and transformation kinetics of nano-bainite were analyzed. The results demonstrated that after prolonged austempering at low temperatures, the mixed microstructure composed of nano-bainite (NB), undissolved carbides (UC), and retained austenite (RA) was obtained in GCr15SiMo steel. When the experimental steel was austenitized at 900 ℃, the undissolved carbides gradually dissolved until reaching a stable state with increasing holding time. Furthermore, at the same austempering temperature, despite different volume fractions of undissolved carbides in the substrate, the volume fractions of nano-bainite in the final microstructures remained essentially the same. Moreover, the higher the content of undissolved carbides in steel, the faster the transformation rate of nano-bainite and the shorter the total transformation time.
