Songkhla Lagoon in southern Thailand is a large lagoon with brackish water where the mysid Nanomysis siamensis *** has long been the dominant mysid species in this ***,nothing is known about the biology and ecology of *** for the first time,we provide information about its demographic structure and reproductive biology in the Songkhla Lagoon *** conducted monthly sampling from June 2017 to June 2018 at five stations in Thale Sap and seven stations in Thale Sap *** were classified into six *** monthly mean density ranged 8.44-807.33 inds./100 m^(2) in Thale Sap and 8.81-434.44 inds./100 m^(2) in Thale Sap *** peak occurrence of this species was in May 2018 in Thale *** population composition was as follows:juvenile 10.13%,immature males 13.45%,immature females 10.54%,mature males 26.19%,mature females 21.63%and ovigerous females 18.05%.The proportion of ovigerous females was statistically significant and brooding females in the nauplioid stage were more dominant than embryonic phase and post-nauplioid *** size varied from 1 to 17,the embryo diameter ranging from 0.2 to 0.4 mm and the lengths of the larvae ranged from 0.5 to 1.0 *** was a positive correlation between brood size and brood length with ovigerous female body ***,mature males were predominant over the five population composition types,and reproduction in *** was observed every month.

Aliphatic C–H groups are among the most abundant yet least reactive functional groups in organic molecules. Nature has evolved metalloenzymes such as those of the cytochrome p450 superfamily that efficiently activate individual tertiary（3） and secondary （2） C（sp3）–H bonds in complex molecules with the highest level of regio-and stereoselectivity [1], thus encouraging studies aimed at engineering artificial metalloenzymes for synthetic applications [2].

The Agatsuma et al’s study shows that despite the evidence of the benefits of an early colorectal cancer(CRC)diagnosis,through screening in asymptomatic subjects,up to 50%of candidates reject this option and many of those affected are diagnosed later,in advanced *** efficacy of screening programs has been well-established for several years,which reduces the risk of CRC morbidity and mortality,without taking into account the test used for screening,or other ***,a significant proportion of patients remain unscreened,so understanding the factors involved,as well as the barriers of the population to adherence is the first step to possibly modify the participation *** barriers could include a full range of social and political aspects,especially the type of financial provision of each health *** Japan,health services are universal,and this advantageous situation makes it easier for citizens to access to these services,contributing to the detection of various diseases,including ***,the symptomatic CRC group had a lower early-stage diagnosis rate than the patients detected during follow-up for other comorbidities,and symptomatic and cancer screening groups showed similar early-stage diagnosis.

As a support material, zeolite can be used to promote the granulation process due to its high settable property and the ability to retain biomass on its surface. The present paper reports on the influence of zeolite addition on the hydrodynamic behavior of an expanded granular sludge bed reactor（EGSB）. Different models were applied to fit the flow pattern and to compare EGSB hydrodynamic performance with and without the addition of zeolite. The experimental data fit the tanks in a series model for zeolite bed height of 5 cm and upflow velocity of 6 m/*** axial dispersion degree（D/uL） was obtained at lower heights of zeolite. The real hydraulic retention time（HRTr） was increased with both increased zeolite bed height and increased upflow velocity. The short-circuit results for 5 cm of zeolite bed and 6, 8 and 10 m/hr upflow velocity were 0.3, 0.24 and 0.19 respectively, demonstrating the feasibility of using zeolite for a proper hydrodynamic environment to operate the EGSB reactor. The presence of zeolite resulted in the higher percentage values of dead zones, ranging from 12% to 24%.Zeolite addition exerted a positive effect on the hydrodynamics pattern for this technology being advantageous for the anaerobic process because of its possible contribution to better biofilm agglomeration, granule formation and substrate-microorganism contact.

Developing effective and long-term treatment strategies for rare and complex neurodegenerative diseases is challenging. One of the major roadblocks is the extensive heterogeneity among patients. This hinders understanding the underlying disease-causing mechanisms and building solutions that have implications for a broad spectrum of patients. One potential solution is to develop personalized medicine approaches based on strategies that target the most prevalent cellular events that are perturbed in patients. Especially in patients with a known genetic mutation, it may be possible to understand how these mutations contribute to problems that lead to neurodegeneration. protein–protein interaction analyses offer great advantages for revealing how proteins interact, which cellular events are primarily involved in these interactions, and how they become affected when key genes are mutated in patients. This line of investigation also suggests novel druggable targets for patients with different mutations. Here, we focus on alsin and spastin, two proteins that are identified as “causative” for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and hereditary spastic paraplegia, respectively, when mutated. Our review analyzes the protein interactome for alsin and spastin, the canonical pathways that are primarily important for each protein domain, as well as compounds that are either Food and Drug Administration–approved or are in active clinical trials concerning the affected cellular pathways. This line of research begins to pave the way for personalized medicine approaches that are desperately needed for rare neurodegenerative diseases that are complex and heterogeneous.

Background Central America is one of the most diverse floristic provinces in the world,but comprehensive plant lists for the region are incomplete and need frequent *** geographic ranges of individual species are seldom *** detailed forest inventory plots of panama thus lack a global geographic *** order to provide one,we assembled a thoroughly vetted checklist of all tree species of panama,along with an estimate of each one’s range size based on published specimen *** 1)panama has 3043 tree species in 141 families and 752 genera;57.6%were≥10 m tall and 16.9%were 3-5 m tall.2)The widest ranges were>1.5×107 km2,covering the entire neotropics and reaching>30∘latitude;12.4%of the species had ranges exceeding 107 *** median range was 6.9×105 km2.3)At the other extreme,16.2%of the species had a rangepecies’height and varied significantly among families.5)Tree census plots,where we mapped and measured all individuals,captured 27.5%of the tree species,but a biased selection relative to range size;only 4.5%of the species in plots had rangespanama,based on rigorous criteria aimed at matching plot censuses,is 20%larger than *** recording species’maximum heights,we allow comparisons with other regions based on matching definitions,and the range sizes provide a quantitative basis for assessing extinction *** next goal is to merge population density from plot censuses to add rigor to predictions of extinction risk of poorly-studied tropical tree species.

Solid tumors are complex entities,comprising a wide variety of malignancies with very different molecular *** this,they share a set of characteristics known as"hallmarks of cancer"that can be used as common therapeutic ***,every tumor needs to change its metabolism in order to obtain the energy levels required for its high proliferative rates,and these adaptations lead to alterations in extra-and intracellular *** changes in p H are common to all solid tumors,and can be used either as therapeutic targets,blocking the cell proton transporters and reversing the pH changes,or as means to specifically deliver anticancer *** this review we will describe how proton transport inhibitors in association with nanocarriers have been designed to block the pH changes that are needed for cancer cells to survive after their metabolic *** will also describe studies aiming to decrease intracellular pH in cancer using nanoparticles as molecular cages for protons which will be released upon UV or IR light ***,we will comment on several studies that have used the extracellular pH in cancer for an enhanced cell internalization and tumor penetration of nanocarriers and a controlled drug delivery,describing how nanocarriers are being used to increase drug stability and specificity.

Multicellular organisms,such as plants,are characterized by highly specialized and tightly regulated cell populations,establishing specific morphological structures and executing distinct *** regulatory networks(GRNs)describe condition-specific interactions of transcription factors(TFs)regulating the expression of target genes,underpinning these specific *** efficient and validated methods to identify cell-type-specific GRNs from single-cell data in plants are lacking,limiting our understanding of the organization of specific cell types in both model species and crops,we developed MINI-EX(Motif-Informed Network Inference based on single-cell EXpression data),an integrative approach to infer cell-type-specific networks in ***-EX uses single-cell transcriptomic data to define expression-based networks and integrates TF motif information to filter the inferred regulons,resulting in networks with increased ***,regulons are assigned to different cell types,leveraging cell-specific expression,and candidate regulators are prioritized using network centrality measures,functional annotations,and expression *** embedded prioritization strategy offers a unique and efficient means to unravel signaling cascades in specific cell types controlling a biological process of *** demonstrate the stability of MINI-EX toward input data sets with low number of cells and its robustness toward missing data,and show that it infers state-of-the-art networks with a better performance compared with other related single-cell network ***-EX successfully identifies key regulators controlling root development in Arabidopsis and rice,leaf development in Arabidopsis,and ear development in maize,enhancing our understanding of cell-type-specific regulation and unraveling the roles of different regulators controlling the development of specific cell types in plants.

Advances in fatty acids nutrition in dairy cows: from gut to cells and effects on performance

High producing dairy cows generally receive in the diet up to 5–6% of fat. This is a relatively low amount of fat in the diet compared to diets in monogastrics;however, dietary fat is important for dairy cows as demonstrated by the benefits of supplementing cows with various fatty acids(FA). Several FA are highly bioactive, especially by affecting the transcriptome;thus, they have nutrigenomic effects. In the present review, we provide an up-to-date understanding of the utilization of FA by dairy cows including the main processes affecting FA in the rumen,molecular aspects of the absorption of FA by the gut, synthesis, secretion, and utilization of chylomicrons;uptake and metabolism of FA by peripheral tissues, with a main emphasis on the liver, and main transcription factors regulated by FA. Most of the advances in FA utilization by rumen microorganisms and intestinal absorption of FA in dairy cows were made before the end of the last century with little information generated afterwards. However,large advances on the molecular aspects of intestinal absorption and cellular uptake of FA were made on monogastric species in the last 20 years. We provide a model of FA utilization in dairy cows by using information generated in monogastrics and enriching it with data produced in dairy cows. We also reviewed the latest studies on the effects of dietary FA on milk yield, milk fatty acid composition, reproduction, and health in dairy cows. The reviewed data revealed a complex picture with the FA being active in each step of the way, starting from influencing rumen microbiota, regulating intestinal absorption, and affecting cellular uptake and utilization by peripheral tissues, making prediction on in vivo nutrigenomic effects of FA challenging.
