This paper explains vario.s facto.s that co.tribute to.saltwater intrusio., including o.erexplo.tatio. o. freshwater reso.rces and climate change as well as the different techniques essential fo. effective saltwater intrusio. management. The impact o. saltwater intrusio. alo.g co.stal regio.s and its impact o. the enviro.ment, hydro.eo.o.y and gro.ndwater co.taminatio.. It suggests po.ential so.utio.s to.mitigate the impact o. saltwater intrusio., including effective water management and techniques fo. managing SWI. The applicatio. o. A.I (assessment index) serves as a guideline to.co.rectly identify wells with SWI ranging fro. no.intrusio., slight intrusio. and stro.g intrusio.. The challenges o. saltwater intrusio. in Lago. and the salinizatio. o. wells were investigated using the hydro.chemical parameters. The study identifies fo.r wells (“AA”, “CMS”, “o.A” and “VIL”) as having high electric co.ductivities, indicating saline water intrusio., while o.her wells (“EBM”, “IKJ, and “IKo.) with lo.er electric co.ductivities, indicate little o. no.salt-water intrusio., and “AJ” well sho.s slight intrusio.. The elevatio. o. the wells also.played a vital ro.e in the SWI acro.s co.stal regio.s o. Lago.. The study reco.mends co.tinuo.s mo.ito.ing o. co.stal wells to.help sustain and reduce saline intrusio.. The findings o. the study are impo.tant fo. po.icymakers, researchers, and practitio.ers who.are interested in addressing the challenges o. saltwater intrusio. alo.g co.stal regio.s. We assessed the SWI acro.s the eight (8) wells using the Assessment Index to.identify wells with SWI. Wells in “CMS” and “VIL” has stro.g intrusio.s. A pro.o.ed classificatio. system based o. specific io. ratio. catego.izes water quality fro. go.d (+) to.highly (-) co.taminated (refer to.Table 4). These findings undersco.e the need fo. attentio. and effective management strategies to.address gro.ndwater unsuitability fo. vario.s purpo.es.

The study o. parental fo.d pro.isio.ing is essential fo. understanding the breeding eco.o.y o. *** co.ducted the first study using accelero.etry to.detect fo.d pro.isio.ing in birds,using Suppo.t Vecto. Machine(SVM)mo.els to.identify when adults feed chicks o. three different age *** were attached to.the head o. adult female Imperial Shags(Leuco.arbo.atriceps),and vario.s attributes derived fro. the acceleratio. signals were used to.train SVM mo.els fo. each chick age *** perfo.mance impro.ed with chick age class,with SVM mo.els achieving high o.erall accuracy(>88%)and highest sensitivity in o.der chick catego.ies(>91%).Ho.ever,precisio. values,especially fo. yo.nger chicks,remained relatively lo.(between 26%and 45%).The applicatio. o. a time filter based o. the minimum duratio. o. the o.served fo.d pro.isio.ing behavio.rs fo. each chick age catego.y,impro.ed mo.el perfo.mance by reducing false pro.isio.ing behavio.rs,particularly in the mo.el fo. o.der chicks,which sho.ed the highest precisio.(72.4%).This study highlights the effectiveness o. accelero.etry and machine learning in studying parental fo.d pro.isio.ing in birds,pro.iding a rapid and accurate data co.lectio. metho. to.co.plement traditio.al *** described metho.o.o.y can be applied to.any bird species that exhibits distinctive mo.ements while feeding its o.fspring and has suitable characteristics fo. attaching an accelero.eter to.the bo.y part that best captures this ***,it is ho.ed that the results o. this study will co.tribute to.future research o. key questio.s in parental investment theo.y and repro.uctive strategies in birds.

Mpo. disease is caused by a do.ble-stranded DNA virus, genus o.tho.o.virus o. the family Po.viridae. The incubatio. perio. is usually 6 to.13 days but can range fro. 5 to.21 days while sympto.s and signs may persist fo. 2 to.5 weeks. Altho.gh, the clinical features are usually less severe when co.pared to.the deadly smallpo., the disease can be fatal with case fatality rate between 1% and 10%. In Imo.State, Nigeria, there has been a changing epidemio.o.y o. the disease in the last 6 years and the frequency and geo.raphic distributio. o. cases have pro.ressively increased. This study aims to.co.duct a review o. the disease epidemio.o.y between 2017 and 2023 and implicatio.s fo. surveillance in Imo.State. Surveillance data fro. the Surveillance o.tbreak Respo.se and Management System (So.MAS) was extracted between January 2017 and December 2023 acro.s the 27 Lo.al Go.ernment Areas (LGAs) o. Imo.State. A line list o. 231 suspected cases was do.nlo.ded into.an excel template and analyzed using SPSS® versio. 20 so.tware. Analysis was do.e using descriptive statistics and asso.iatio.s were tested using Fischer’s exact at 0.05 level o. significance. o. the 231 suspected cases, 57.1% (132) were males, 42.9% (99) were females and the mo.al age gro.p was between the ages o. 0 - 4 (32.5%). Eight (8) LGAs (districts) acco.nted fo. 71% (n = 164) o. all the suspected cases. 21.2% (49) were co.firmed po.itive, 27 males (55.1%) and 22 females (44.9%) (p > 0.05). Mo.al age gro.p was 20 - 24 (22.4%, n = 11), 18% (9) were children under 14 years, p > 0.05. Case fatality rate was 8% (n = 4). There was no.significant asso.iatio. between mo.tality and age gro.p. Five (5) LGAs acco.nted fo. abo.t 60% (29) o. all co.firmed cases. These LGAs co.tribute o.ly 20% to.the to.al po.ulatio. in the State. o.ly 5.6% and 4% o. suspected and co.firmed cases, respectively, had kno.ledge o. co.tact with an infectio.s so.rce.
