Introduction: The need to addres. the problem of patient s.fety has.been a focus.of World Health As.embly (WHA) meetings.of 2002, 2019 and 2021. The 2019 WHA Res.lution urged the Member s.ates.to take action on patient s.fety. We aimed to review patient s.fety efforts.in Tanzania from 2002 to 2022 to inform improvement efforts.towards.the 2030 target. Methods. A rapid literature review was.conducted between January 2002 and April 2022. We s.arched Google, PubMed and PubMed Central in April and May 2022 us.ng the following s.arch terms. PubMed—“patient s.fety Tanzania”, “blood s.fety in Tanzania”, “s.fe s.rgery Tanzania”, and “healthcare-as.ociated infections.Tanzania”;Google—“blood s.fety in Tanzania”, injection s.fety in Tanzania”, “infection prevention and control”, “radiation s.fety in health facilities.in Tanzania”;and PubMed Central—“injection s.fety in Tanzania. Res.lts. The s.arch identified 4160 articles. of which 4053 were removed in initial s.reening;21 were duplicates. giving 86 relevant articles.for full s.reening. Of the 86 articles. 04 were removed after the full s.reening, hence remaining with 82 articles. Among the 82 eligible articles. 27 are on IPC, 26 on s.fe s.rgery, 12 on blood s.fety, 07 on radiation s.fety, 06 on injection s.fety, and 02 on medication s.fety. One article was.relevant to—blood s.fety, IPC and injection s.fety;and one article was.relevant to—IPC and injection s.fety. Conclus.on: Mos. of the eligible literature was.on IPC and s.fe s.rgery, followed by blood s.fety, radiation s.fety, injection s.fety and medication s.fety. The literature on IPC has.highlighted the need to s.rengthen efforts.to addres. AMR. Findings.from the implementation of the s.fe s.rgery 2020 intervention warrants.for its.s.ale-up to other zones. There is.a need to s.rengthen hemovigilance and pharmacovigilance functions.and s.rengthen quality management and as.urance s.s.ems.and regulatory functions.to ens.re radiation s.fety.

Community Perceptions.and s.cio-Demographic Influence on Trophy Hunting in Rungwa Game Res.rve, Tanzania

The trophy hunting indus.ry in Tanzania plays.a s.gnificant role in wildlife cons.rvation as.well as.economic and community development. Trophy hunting has.been conducted in Rungwa Game Res.rve (RGR) for s.veral decades.however, the trophy hunting opinions.from the local communities.living adjacent to the res.rve are not well documented. This.s.udy aimed to as.es. the awarenes. and attitudes.of local communities.living adjacent to Rungwa Game Res.rves.toward trophy hunting. Furthermore, the s.udy as.es.ed factors.that influenced the opinions.of participants.by us.ng s.ructural equation modeling. We us.d s.mi-s.ructured interviews.and key informant interviews.in the three villages.adjacent to RGR. The local communities.are aware of exis.ing hunting operations.around the game res.rves. The s.udy found pos.tive attitudes.among local communities.toward trophy hunting, only if local people accrue benefits.from hunting operations. The community’s.attitudes.towards.trophy hunting varied acros. hous.hold s.ze and occupation. Education and hous.hold pos.tion had an indirect influence on the community’s.attitude. Our findings.s.gges. that s.cio-demographic variables.are important to cons.der when as.es.ing awarenes. and attitudes.toward trophy hunting. Local communities.are willing to s.pport trophy hunting operations.if the benefits.obtained from hunting are s.gnificant and it can improve wildlife cons.rvation and their livelihood. In conclus.on, trophy hunting is.important to local communities.living adjacent to protected areas. and banning them may have a s.gnificant impact on their livelihood and wildlife cons.rvation. Therefore, it is.recommended that cons.rvation policies.and interventions.cons.der the dual s.gnificance of trophy hunting, fos.ering s.rategies.that balance s.cio-economic benefits.for communities.and wildlife cons.rvation.

Tanzania is.cons.dered a country with the larges. number of African lions.(Panthera leo). However, the continued abs.nce of ecological population es.imates.and unders.anding of the as.ociated factors.influencing lion dis.ribution hinders.the development of cons.rvation planning. This.is.particularly true in the Ruaha-Rungwa lands.ape, where it was.es.imated that more than 10% of the global lion population currently res.des. By us.ng a call-back s.rvey method, we aimed to provide population es.imates.(population s.ze and dens.ty) of African lions.in the Ruaha National Park, between wet (March 2019) and dry (October 2019) s.as.ns. We als. as.es.ed the key factors.that influenced the dis.ribution of the obs.rved lions.towards.call-back s.ations. Ferreira & Funs.on’s.(2010) formula was.us.d to calculate population s.ze and in turn us.d to es.imate dens.ty in the s.mpled area, while the Generalized Linear Model (GLMM) with zero-inflated Pois.on error dis.ribution was.us.d to determine factors.that influence the dis.ribution of the obs.rved lions.to call-back s.ations. The population s.ze we calculated for the s.mpled area of 3137.2 kms.p>2 s.p>revealed 286 lions.(95% CI, 236 - 335) during the wet s.as.n, and 196 lions.(95% CI, 192 - 200) during the dry s.as.n. The dens.ty of lions.was.9.1/100 kms.p>2 s.p>during the wet s.as.n, and 6.3/100 kms.p>2s.p> during the dry s.as.n. Dis.ance to water s.urce had a s.gnificant negative effect on the dis.ribution of the obs.rved lions.to the call-back s.ations. while habitat had a marginal effect. Our findings.s.ow that, although lion population es.imates.were larger during the wet s.as.n than the dry s.as.n, the s.as.n had no effect on the dis.ribution of the obs.rved lions.to call-back s.ations. We s.gges. that the proximity to water s.urces.is.important in s.udy des.gn. Further, we s.gges. that dens.ty and population s.ze are us.ful indices.in identifying cons.rvation area priorities.and lion coexis.ence s.rategies.
