Evaluation of Low Saline “Smart Water” Enhanced Oil Recovery in Light Oil Reservoirs

With the depletion of natural driving forces responsible for pushing the oil from reservoirs & declination of oil recovery after secondary stage, the emphasis is now on EOR techniques. The low saline flooding is a type of EOR which gains the attention of researchers due to its easiness to use implications, less cost & environment-friendly nature. Though the low salinity effect has been seen in various labscale core flooding experiments as well as field pilot projects, the mechanism which actually leads to this enhancement in recovery is still the area of research among researchers which is wide open and needs to gain consensus. Seeing the wide mechanisms taking place under different scenarios, it is certain that more than one mechanism is actually supplementing each other in reducing the residual oil saturation while LSW flooding. This study has been undertaken investigations on the low saline flooding in unconsolidated Ottawa sandpack cores with two different, Weyburn & Pelican crude oil, to find out the optimum salinity, LSW Slug Size & underlying mechanisms during LSW flooding. Several core flooding experiments were performed under secondary as well as tertiary recovery stage by unsteady state method. With the reduction of brine salinity from 5000 PPM to 1500 PPM, the oil recovery increased in secondary stage & decreased further upon reduction in salinity to 500 PPM gaining the peak at 1500 PPM. Small enhancement in tertiary recovery of 2.24% observed upon switching to 1500 NaCl PPM brine after injection of formation brine in secondary stage for Weyburn Oil, though large tertiary recoveries of the order of 9.95% for effective oil viscosity of 4 cP and 7.32% for 29.7 cP were observed for n-dodecane diluted Pelican Oil. LSW slug size of 25% pore volume was found to be effective in producing Weyburn Oil in secondary stage.

Investigating Improved Oil Recovery in Heavy Oil Reservoirs

Primary production mechanisms do not recover an appreciable fraction of the hydrocarbon initially in place (HIIP). Practical knowledge has shown that, at the point when the natural energy in a heavy oil reservoir is nearly or altogether depleted, the recovery factor does not exceed about 20%. Some heavy oil reservoirs do not produce at all by natural drive mechanisms. This often necessitates adopting a production improvement strategy to augment recovery. Prior to implementing an improved oil recovery method (either secondary or tertiary) in the field, it is very important to investigate its potential for success. Reservoir simulation is a part of a continuous learning process used to gain insight into the feasibility and applicability of improved oil recovery methods. In this project, GEM compositional reservoir simulator has been used to study the efficiencies of different improved oil recovery strategies, ranging from waterflooding to solvent injection. The drainage volume investigated is a hypothetical box-shaped heavy oil reservoir composed of three distinct permeable layers.

Predictors of hemorrhagic manifestations in dengue:A prospective observational study from the Hadoti region of Rajasthan

The Posteroanterior Locking for the Distal Humerus Nailing. Is It a Viable Option?

The distal interlocking is regarded as an inherent part of the antegrade humeral nailing technique. Traditionally the distal locking of intramedullary humeral nails is achieved using a freehand technique. The humerus nailing locking options in the conventional nailing systems are placed in the anterior-posterior and lateral-medial directions. It exposes both the patient and surgeon to radiation, is time consuming, and has a potential risk of damaging neurovascular structures, especially the radial and lateral cutaneous nerve when the anterior-posterior and lateral-medial locking constructs are used. We aim to present a technical tip to ease the distal locking procedure and avoid the possible neurovascular complications with the existing nailing systems.

Lead Induced Oxidative Stress: Beneficial Effects of Kombucha Tea

Objective To evaluate the effect of oral administration of Kombucha tea (K-tea) on lead induced oxidative stress. Methods Sprague Dawley rats were administered 1 mL of 3.8% lead acetate solution daily alone or in combination with K-tea orally for 45 d, and the antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation were evaluated. Results Oral administration of lead acetate to rats enhanced lipid peroxidation and release of creatine phosphokinase and decreased levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) and antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, SOD and glutathione peroxidase, GPx). Lead treatment did not alter humoral immunity, but inhibited DTH response when compared to the control. Lead administration also increased DNA fragmentation in liver. Oral administration of Kombucha tea to rats exposed to lead decreased lipid peroxidation and DNA damage with a concomitant increase in the reduced glutathione level and GPx activity. Kombucha tea supplementation relieved the lead induced immunosuppression to appreciable levels. Conclusion The results suggest that K-tea has potent antioxidant and immunomodulating properties.

Several types of childhood glaucoma exist, and the terminology is based on the time of onset of disease and its potential cause. Though childhood glaucoma occurs less commonly than adults but can lead to permanent visual damage due to amblyopia, optic neuropathy or refractive error. A detailed evaluation should be done to establish diagnosis. Medical therapy has a limited role and surgery remains main modality for treatment. Childhood glaucoma is a treatable disease, if early diagnosis is established and therapeutic intervention done in time. In children with low vision efforts should be there to maintain residual vision and visual rehabilitation with low vision aids should be done.

In the central parts of the Himalaya,the Higher Himalayan Crystalline (HHC) high-grade rocks are mainly exhumed,as a consequence of ductile flow at deeper level controlled by folding and broad ductile top-to-SW shearing between the Main Central Thrust (MCT) in the south and the South Tebetan Detachment System (STDS) in the *** records folding history of pre-Himalayan (D1) to Himalayan deformations (D2/D3/D4).The rocks of the HHC are thoroughly transposed by D2 deformation into Sm (S1+S2).The extent of transposition and a well-developed NE-plunging L2 lineation indicate intense strain during D2 throughout the studied portion of the *** flow continued,resulting in rotation of F1 and F2 folds due NE-direction and generation of NW-SE plunging F3 folds within the HHC.S-C fabrics, asymmetric augen,asymmetric pressure shadows,detachment of quartz-feldspathic layer etc are the shear fabric developed during D2 ductile deformation that show top-to-SW *** HHC then formed a crustal wedge that was rapidly exhumed at deeper level attributed to ductile flow. New apatite and zircon fission-track ages are used to evaluate low-temperature thermochronology of the *** present 34 new apatite fission-track ages (18 from the Goriganga valley,8 from the Darma valley and 8 from Kaliganga valley) and 15 new zircon fission track ages (11 from the Goriganga valley,02 from the Darma valley and 02 from Kaliganga valley).These ages from the HHC provide an excellent constraint on its exhumation at low temperature below -*** distinct age groups of apatite separated by Vaikrita Thrust (VT) are identified along the Goriganga *** uniform apatite cooling ages in the hanging wall of VT are clustered c.0.8 Ma while in the footwall are clustered c 1.4 *** zircon ages also show similar age distribution along the *** the hanging wall of VT the zircon ages are clustered around 2Ma while in the footwall around 2.8 *** of 8 apatite ages from the Darma val

New Approaches for Image Compression Using Neural Network

An image consists of large data and requires more space in the memory. The large data results in more transmission time from transmitter to receiver. The time consumption can be reduced by using data compression techniques. In this technique, it is possible to eliminate the redundant data contained in an image. The compressed image requires less memory space and less time to transmit in the form of information from transmitter to receiver. Artificial neural net- work with feed forward back propagation technique can be used for image compression. In this paper, the Bipolar Coding Technique is proposed and implemented for image compression and obtained the better results as compared to Principal Component Analysis (PCA) technique. However, the LM algorithm is also proposed and implemented which can acts as a powerful technique for image compression. It is observed that the Bipolar Coding and LM algorithm suits the best for image compression and processing applications.

Memory Effect in Chemotaxis Equation

Diffusion-Reaction (DR) equation has been used to model a large number of phenomena in nature. It may be mentioned that a linear diffusion equation does not exhibit any traveling wave solution. But there are a vast number of phenomena in different branches not only of science but also of social sciences where diffusion plays an important role and the underlying dynamical system exhibits traveling wave features. In contrast to the simple diffusion when the reaction kinetics is combined with diffusion, traveling waves of chemical concentration are found to exist. This can affect a biochemical change, very much faster than straight diffusional processes. This kind of coupling results into a nonlinear (NL) DR equation. In recent years, memory effect in DR equation has been found to play an important role in many branches of science. The effect of memory enters into the dynamics of NL DR equation through its influence on the speed of the travelling wavefront. In the present work, chemotaxis equation with source term is studied in the presence of finite memory and its solution is compared with the corresponding chemotaxis equation without finite memory. Also, a comparison is made between Fisher-Burger equation and chemotaxis equation in the presence of finite memory. We have shown that nonlinear diffusion-reaction-convection equation is equivalent to chemotaxis equation.
