Design, Formulation and Evaluation of Transdermal Drug Delivery System of Budesonide

Budesonide is a highly potent synthetic, nonhalogenated corticosteroid. The mechanism of action of corticosteroids in allergic rhinitis remains unknown, but may involve reductions in number of various mediator cells such as basophils, eosinophils, T-helper cells, mast cells, and neutrophils. In the nasal mucosa, nasal reactivity to allergens, and release of inflammatory mediators and proteolytic enzymes. Budesonide is very effective and quikly acting as it is rapidly and almost completely absorbed after oral administration, but has poor systemic availability (about 10%) due to extensive first-pass metabolism in the liver, mainly by the cytochrome P450 isoenzyme CYP3A4.. The major metabolites, 6-β- hydroxybudesonide and 16-α-hydroxyprednisolone have less than 1% of the glucocorticoid activity of unchanged drug with a terminal half-life of about 2 - 4 hours. Polymeric films containing Eudragit RL 100: Eudragit RS: drug (7:3:1, 7: 2:1) and Ethyl cellulose: PVP: drug (7:3:1, 7:2:1) were selected for transdermal administration based on evaluation studies. These polymeric films were prepared by mercury substrate method employing PEG-400 as plasticizer. Two different penetration enhancers Urea and Dimethyl sulphoxide (DmSO) were employed in the study. The patches in each group were uniform in drug content, thickness. In Vitro drug permeation, moisture absorption and WVTR studies were carried out on these test patches. It was found that at all humidity condition the absorption increases which were linear to the moisture absorbed. In PVA and EUDRAGIT RL 100 patches the water vapor transmission rate was found to be higher at 75% RH, RT conditions. Therefore at both % RH, RT condition the PVA and EUDRAGIT RL 100 patches provides the best resistance to water vapor. Therefore, when applied to animals (in further studies) these patches may provide more occlusion to water vapor loss from skin thus making atmosphere beneath the skin more humid that aid in drug permeation.

TO THE EDITORWe read with great interest and a bit of surprise the article by Tonus et al. We would share herein our comments about it. The specificity of the fecal tumor m2 pyruvate kinase 0VI2-PK） reported by Tonus et al for diagnosing colorectal cancer （CRC） is 93%. This is considerably higher than in any of the previously published studies. In our work, the maximum specificity of fecal m2- PK is 78% （Table 1）. There is a vast difference of 15% between the previous studies and the current study of Tonus et al, which is difficult to explain. We are skeptical about such a high specificity reported by the authors.

Gastroenteric tube feeding plays a major role in the management of patients with poor voluntary intake,chronic neurological or mechanical dysphagia or gut dysfunction,and patients who are critically ***,despite the benefits and widespread use of enteral tube feeding,some patients experience *** review aims to discuss and compare current knowledge regarding the clinical application of enteral tube feeding,together with associated complications and special *** conducted an extensive literature search on Pubmed,Embase and medline using index terms relating to enteral access,enteral feeding/nutrition,tube feeding,percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy/jejunostomy,endoscopic nasoenteric tube,nasogastric tube,and refeeding *** literature showed common routes of enteral access to include nasoenteral tube,gastrostomy and jejunostomy,while complications fall into four major categories:mechanical,e.g.,tube blockage or removal;gastrointestinal,e.g.,diarrhea;infectious e.g.,aspiration pneumonia,tube site infection;and metabolic,e.g.,refeeding syndrome,*** the type and frequency of complications arising from tube feeding vary considerably according to the chosen access route,gastrointestinal complications are without doubt the most *** associated with enteral tube feeding can be reduced by careful observance of guidelines,including those related to food composition,administration rate,portion size,food temperature and patient supervision.

Investigation of magnetoelectric effect in lead free K0.5Na0.5NbO3–BaFe12O19 novel composite system

Lead-free magnetoelectric composites(1-x)K0.5Na0.5NbO3–(x)BaFe12O19(x = 30, 40, and 50 wt%) are synthesized using solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction(XRD) patterns confirm formation of diphase composites. Field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEm) gives information about grain size, connectivity, and microstructure of constituent phases. Dielectric parameters of composite samples are studied as a function of temperature and the transition temperatures corresponding to both the constituent phases are observed in the composite samples. Dielectric constant has been found to decrease with addition of ferrite. Room temperature multiferroic behaviour has been confirmed using P–E and m–H hysteresis loops and magnetoelectric measurement. Polarization is found to decrease;however, magnetization increases with ferrite weight percentage. The highest αmE of 4.08 mV/(cm·Oe) is obtained for x = 30 wt% composite and it is realized that ferrite content significantly affects magnetoelectric behaviour.

Long-term photometric study of a faint W Uma binary in the direction of m31

We carry out a re-analysis of the photometric data in Rclc bands which were taken during the Nainital microlensing Survey from 1998 to 2002 with the aim to detect gravitational microlensing events in the direction of m31. Here, we do photometric analysis of a faint W Uma binary CSS_JO04259.3＋410629 identified in the target field. The orbital period of this star is found to be 0.266402±0.000018 d. The photometric mass ratio, q, is found to be 0.28±0.01. The photometric light curves are investigated using the Wilson-Devinney （WD） code and absolute parameters are determined using empirical relations which provide masses and radii of the binary as m1 = 1.19±0.09m⊙, m2 = 0.33±0.02m⊙ and R1 = 1.02±0.04R⊙, R2 = 0.58±0.08Re respectively based on Rc band data. Quite similar values are found by analyzing/c band data. From the photometric light curve examination, the star is understood to be a low mass-ratio overcontact binary of A-subtype with a high fill-out factor of about 47%. The binary system is found to be located approximately at a distance of 2.64±0.03 kpc having a separation of 2.01 ±0.05 Re between the two components.

Evaluation of antiplasmodial properties in 15 selected traditional medicinal plants from India

Objective:The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro antiplasmodial properties against malaria parasite in 15 plants mentioned in Indian traditional medicine ***:In vitro antiplasmodial activity of methanolic extracts obtained from Indian traditional medicinal plants was evaluated on Plasmodium falciparum of FCK2 and INDO strains using schizont maturation inhibition assay and parasite lactate dehydrogenase inhibition ***:methanolic extracts of Adhatoda zeylanica,Embelia ribes,Piper nigrum and Plumbago zeylanica exhibited more than 50%inhibition in both the stains in schizont maturation inhibition *** extracts of seven medicinal plants exhibited antiplasmodial activity at half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)mg/m L,and methanolic extracts of five medicinal plants exhibited antiplasmodial activity at IC50mg/m L in *** lactate dehydrogenase(PfLDH)inhibition ***,*** and *** exhibited promising antiplasmodial activity in PfLDH inhibition *** and *** exhibited improved activity against resistant in comparison to sensitive ***:*** and *** were the most promising extracts from this study and deserve further investigation of their antiplasmodial properties.

Photometric studies of two W Uma type variables in the field of distant open cluster NGC 6866

We present photometric analysis of the two W Uma type binaries identified in the field of distant open star cluster NGC 6866. Although these systems, namely ID487 and ID494, were reported by Joshi et al., a detailed study of these stars has not been carried out before. The orbital periods of these stars are found to be 0.415110±0.000001 day and 0.366709±0.000004 day, respectively. Based on the photometric and infrared colors, we find their respective spectral types to be K0 and K3. The photometric light vari- ations of both stars show the O＇Connell effect which can be explained by employing a dark spot on the secondary components. The V and I band light curves are analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney （WD） code and relations given by Gazeas which yield radii and masses for the binary components of star ID487 of R1 = 1.24 ± 0.01R,R2 = 1.11 4- 0.02Re, and m1 = 1.24 ± 0.02me, m2 = 0.96 ±0.05me and for star ID494 of R1 = 1.22 ± 0.02Re, R2 = 0.81 4- 0.01 Re, and m1 = 1.20 4- 0.06 me, m2 = 0.47 4- 0.01 me.

Liver biochemistry profile,significance and endoscopic management of biliary tract complications post orthotopic liver transplantation

AIm： To correlate the significance of liver biochemical tests in diagnosing post orthotopic liver transplantation （OLT） biliary complications and to study their profile before and after endoscopic therapy.mETHODS： Patients who developed biliary complications were analysed in detail for the clinical information, laboratory tests, treatment offered, response to it, follow up and outcomes. The profile of liver enzymes was determined. The safety, efficacy and outcomes of endoscopic retrograde cholangiography （ERC） were also analysed. RESULTS： 40 patients required ERC for 70 biliary complications. GGT was found to be 〉 3 times （388.1 ± 70.9 U/mL vs 168.5 4± 34.2 U/L, P = 0.007） and SAP 〉 2 times （345.1 ± 59.1 U/L vs 152.7 ± 21.4 U/L, P = 0.003） the immediate post OLT values. most frequent complication was isolated anastomotic res in 28 （40%）. Sustained success was achieved in 26 （81%） patients. CONCLUSION： Biliary complications still remain an important problem post OLT. SAP and GGT can be used as early, non-invasive markers for diagnosis and also to assess the adequacy of therapy. Endoscopic management is usually effective in treating the majority of these biliary complications.
