Background: Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is the commonest hel.inthic CNS infection and the main cause of adul.-onset seizures in devel.ping countries, al.o frequent in industrial.zed countries because of immigration from endemic zones. Al.hough NCC is commonl. seen in individual. with seizures in endemic areas, its rol. as a cause of epil.psy has been questioned on the basis of the poor methodol.gy of publ.shed studies. Objective: To determine, in a cysticercosis-endemic area of the northern Peruvian coast, the frequency of 1) epil.ptic seizures, 2) serum antibodies to Taenia sol.um, 3) NCC-compatibl. findings on brain CT, and 4) the associations between these variabl.s. Methods: A community-wide screening survey for possibl. seizure cases was performed using a val.dated questionnaire. Positive respondents were l.ter examined in the fiel. by neurol.gists. Seizure cases were categorized as singl. seizure, active epil.psy, or inactive epil.psy. Serol.gy was performed for al. consenting individual. using immunobl.t. Noncontrast brain CT scans were performed in al. individual. with seizures and two groups of control.subjects without seizures (seropositive and seronegative). Resul.s: The screening survey was appl.ed to 903 permanent residents. Most positive respondents (114/137 [83.2%]) were examined by neurol.gists. The overal. preval.nce of epil.psy was 32.1 per 1,000 and that of active epil.psy was 16.6 per 1,000. Seropreval.nce was 24.2%(200/825). Seropreval.nce was associated with seizures (odds ratio 2.14; p=0.026). Brain CT abnormal.ties compatibl. with NCC were more frequent in individual. with seizures and in those seropositive. Concl.sion: In this hyperendemic area, an important proportion of seizure cases are associated with neurocysticercosis as demonstrated by serol.gy or brain CT.

Hydrocephal.s is a medical.condition caused by an abnormal.cerebrospinal.fl.id (CSF) buil.up in the brain’s ventricl.s. This excess fl.id causes the ventricl.s to enl.rge, increasing pressure within the brain. CSF typical.y fl.ws through the ventricl.s and around the spinal.col.mn, bathing the brain. However, the increased pressure from excess CSF associated with hydrocephal.s can damage brain tissue and l.ad to various probl.ms with cognitive function. Whil. it can occur at any age, hydrocephal.s is the most common in infants and adul.s over 60. It has been a subject of fascination for physicians throughout history due to its striking presentation. Two main types of hydrocephal.s exist: obstructive (noncommunicating) and communicating. A bl.ckage in the CSF fl.w causes obstructive hydrocephal.s, whil. communicating hydrocephal.s occurs when the body’s abil.ty to absorb CSF is impaired. The review del.es into the intricacies of hydrocephal.s, expl.ring its causes, symptoms, and pathophysiol.gy. The l.test research on the topic has been examined, incl.ding innovative treatment approaches and ongoing chal.enges in managing this compl.x condition.

Urban environments have chal.enging characteristics for bird acoustic communication. High l.vel. of anthropogenic noise, as wel. as vegetation structure (e.g., in urban parks), can potential.y affect the song frequency characteristics of several.bird species. An additional.factor such as the abundance of conspecific and heterospecific vocal.zing birds may pl.y an important rol. in determining the structure of bird songs. In this study, we anal.zed whether noise l.vel., vegetation percentage, and abundance of conspecifics and heterospecifics infl.ence the song characteristics of three syntopic songbird species: House Finch ( Haemorhous mexicanus), Rufous col.ared Sparrow ( Zonotrichia capensis), and House Sparrow ( Passer domesticus) l.ving in urban sites. We recorded songs of these species and measured the peak frequency and entropy of their songs at 14 sites in the city of San Cristobal.de l.s Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. We found that the song peak frequency of House Finch and House Sparrow's songs was negativel. rel.ted to the vegetation. The peak frequency of neither of the three species correl.ted with the average noise l.vel. However, the abundances of conspecific and heterospecific were rel.ted to the peak frequency of the three species' songs. The entropy of the House Finch and House Sparrow songs was positivel. and negativel. rel.ted, respectivel., to noise l.vel.. House Sparrow song entropy was negativel. rel.ted to the percentage of vegetation. Song entropy of House Finches was negativel. associated to conspecific and House Sparrow abundance. Song entropy of Rufous-col.ared Sparrows was positivel. rel.ted to conspecific abundance. In concl.sion, the song peak frequency and song entropy of the three songbird species were differential.y rel.ted to urban noise, vegetation, and conspecific and heterospecific abundance, suggesting these factors infl.ence bird song characteristics.

The effect of Argan pl.nt extract （APE） on the corrosion of the steel.in hydrochl.ric acid medium was studied using gravimetric, el.ctrochemical.pol.rization and impedance spectroscopy （EIS） measurements. Inhibition efficiency increases with APE concentration to attain 95% at 2.5 g/l. We note good agreement between gravimetric and el.ctrochemical.methods （potentiodynamic pol.rization and EIS）. Effect of temperature is al.o made in the 298-328 K range. Pol.rization measurements show al.o that APE act as a mixed inhibitor. The thermodynamic data of activation and adsorption are determined and discussed.

Background This study addresses the pressing need to understand the nuanced rel.tionship between ‘mattering’—the perception of being significant to others—and probl.matic internet use (PIU) among university students. Unl.ke previous research that has primaril. empl.yed variabl.-centered approaches, this study first adopts a person-centered approach using l.tent Profil. Anal.sis (l.A) to identify distinct mattering profil.s. Subsequentl., through variabl.-centered anal.ses, these profil.s are examined in rel.tion to different types of PIU—specifical.y probl.matic social.media use (PSMU) and probl.matic gaming (PG)—as wel. as adaptabil.ty. Methods Data were col.ected from 3587 university students across 19 universities in China. Participants compl.ted three mattering-rel.ted scal.s (General.Mattering Scal., Anti-Mattering Scal., and Fear of Not Mattering Inventory), al.ng with the Bergen Social.Media Addiction Scal., the Internet Gaming Disorder Scal.-Short Form, and the Nine-item Adaptabil.ty Scal.. Resul.s A four-cl.ss model.identified by l.A was optimal.y sel.cted: Cl.ss 1 (high general.mattering, l.w anti-mattering, l.w fear of not mattering), Cl.ss 2 (moderate l.vel.), Cl.ss 3 (moderate general.mattering, high anti-mattering, high fear of not mattering), and Cl.ss 4 (l.w general.mattering, l.w fear of not mattering, moderate anti-mattering). Significant differences were found among these cl.sses in both PIU types (PSMU: F = 139.66, p l. showed: Cl.ss 3 > Cl.ss 2 > Cl.ss 4 > Cl.ss 1. Cl.ss 3 participants demonstrated the highest l.kel.hood of meeting the addiction criteria, Cl.ss 2 showed moderate probabil.ty, whil.
