Resilience-oriented Valuation for Energy Storage Amidst Extreme Events

In power grids,the frequency is increasing of extreme accidents which have a low probability but high risk such as natural disasters and deliberate attacks.This has sparked discussions on the resilience of power grids.Energy-storage systems(ESSs)are critical for enhancing the resilience of power grids.ESSs,with their mechanism of flexible charging and discharging,adjust energy usage as needed during disasters,thereby mitigating the impact on the grid and enhancing security and resilience.This,in turn,ensures the power system’s stable operation.Currently,there is limited systematic research quantifying the economic value of energy storage in resilience scenarios.Therefore,a model and methodology were proposed to quantify the value of energy storage systems for enhancing grid resilience during extreme events.A two-stage stochastic optimization mathematical model was developed.The first stage involves pre-deployment based on day-ahead expectations,and the second stage involves simulating potential failure scenarios through real-time scheduling.Considering the temporal dimension,the energy storage systems with flexible regulation capabilities was used as emergency power sources to reduce occurrences of load-shedding.Here,a novel index was proposed that quantifies the resilience value of energy storage as the economic value of energy storage per unit of capacity,as reflected in the emergency dispatch model.This index helps determine the balance between the energy storage investment cost and resilience value.Finally,an IEEE-30 node transmission system was used to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.The findings revealed a significant improvement in the resilience value,with a 23.49%increase observed when energy storage systems were implemented compared to the scenario without energy storage systems.The optimal capacity configurations for the flywheel,lithium-ion batteries,and pumped hydro storage were 10 MW,11 MW,and 12 MW,respectively,highlight their potential to maximize value in experimen

In this review,we summarized the assembly behavior of DNA organic hybrids and listed reported strategies of tuning the morphology of assemblies.The self-assembly and morphological regulation of DNA organic hybrids provide an effective way to construct functional nanostructures with potential applications in nanomaterials,drug delivery and tissue engineering.The future directions are discussed.

Clinical and histopathological predictors of rapid kidney function decline in patients with biopsy-proven diabetic kidney disease

To the Editor:Diabetic kidney disease(DKD)has become the leading cause of end-stage kidney disease(ESKD).According to the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes(KDIGO)guidelines,rapid kidney function decline in DKD is defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)slope≤−5 mL∙min^(−1)∙1.73 m^(−2)·year^(−1).The prognoses of patients who experience rapid eGFR decline are usually poor.In a multicenter retrospective study,230 of 377(61%)biopsy-proven DKD patients were rapid decliners.[1]It was reported that 32%and 42%of 195 type 2 diabetes(T2D)Pima Indians with normoalbuminuria and microalbuminuria,respectively,had a rapid eGFR decline,indicating that proteinuria alone has difficulty in fully predicting rapid kidney function decline in DKD patients with T2D.[2]Therefore,it is of interest to identify more useful clinicopathological predictors of a rapid kidney function decline in T2D patients.

MoS_(2)/MoO_(2) nanosheets anchored on carbon cloth for high-performance magnesium-and sodium-ion storage

Developing new types of rechargeable metal-ion batteries beyond lithium-ions,including alkaline ion(such as Na+,K+)and multivalent ion(such as Mg 2+,Zn 2+,Ca 2+and Al 3+)batteries,is progressing quickly towards large-scale energy storage systems.However,the major obstacle to their large-scale applications has been a lack of appropriate electrode materials with reversible metal ions insertion/extraction be-havior,resulting in inferior electrochemical performance.Here we develop a well-designed MoS_(2)/MoO_(2) hybrid nanosheets anchored on carbon cloth(MoS_(2)/MoO_(2)/CC)as electrode materials.This rational de-sign can effectively shorten ion diffusion distance,increase electric conductivity of the electrode,and buffer volume change.Benefiting from the synergistic effect of structural and compositional features,the MoS_(2)/MoO_(2)/CC electrode exhibits high initial reversible capacities(326 mA h g^(−1) at 0.1 A g^(−1) in magnesium-ion storage;1270 mA h g^(−1) at 0.1 A g^(−1) in sodium-ion storage),excellent rate capacities(57 mA h g^(−1) at 10 A g^(−1) in magnesium-ion storage;335 mA h g^(−1) at 5 A g^(−1) in sodium-ion storage)and long-term cycling stability(105 mA h g^(−1) after 600 cycle at 1 A g^(−1) in magnesium-ion storage;208 mA h g^(−1) after 600 cycles at 5 A g^(−1) in sodium-ion storage).We expect that the multi-engineering strategy will provide some valuable insights for the development of other advanced electrode materials for high-performance metal-ion batteries.

Mechanosensitive Ion Channel TMEM63A Gangs Up with Local Macrophages to Modulate Chronic Post-amputation Pain

Post-amputation pain causes great sufering to amputees,but still no efective drugs are available due to its elusive mechanisms.Our previous clinical studies found that surgical removal or radiofrequency treatment of the neuroma at the axotomized nerve stump efectively relieves the phantom pain aficting patients after amputation.This indicated an essential role of the residual nerve stump in the formation of chronic post-amputation pain(CPAP).However,the molecular mechanism by which the residual nerve stump or neuroma is involved and regulates CPAP is still a mystery.In this study,we found that nociceptors expressed the mechanosensitive ion channel TMEM63A and macrophages infltrated into the dorsal root ganglion(DRG)neurons worked synergistically to promote CPAP.Histology and qRT-PCR showed that TMEM63A was mainly expressed in mechanical pain-producing non-peptidergic nociceptors in the DRG,and the expression of TMEM63A increased signifcantly both in the neuroma from amputated patients and the DRG in a mouse model of tibial nerve transfer(TNT).Behavioral tests showed that the mechanical,heat,and cold sensitivity were not afected in the Tmem63a-/-mice in the naïve state,suggesting the basal pain was not afected.In the infammatory and post-amputation state,the mechanical allodynia but not the heat hyperalgesia or cold allodynia was signifcantly decreased in Tmem63a-/-mice.Further study showed that there was severe neuronal injury and macrophage infltration in the DRG,tibial nerve,residual stump,and the neuromalike structure of the TNT mouse model,Consistent with this,expression of the pro-infammatory cytokines TNFα,IL-6,and IL-1βall increased dramatically in the DRG.Interestingly,the deletion of Tmem63a signifcantly reduced the macrophage infltration in the DRG but not in the tibial nerve stump.Furthermore,the ablation of macrophages signifcantly reduced both the expression of Tmem63a and the mechanical allodynia in the TNT mouse model,indicating an interaction between nociceptors and macrophages,and that these two

Dynamics of Exciton Transport in Two-Dimensional Materials

In recent years,two-dimensional(2D)materials have attracted extensive interests due to the large exciton binding energy different from bulk materials.Many peculiar properties have been discovered that have farreaching perspectives in the next generation of optoelectronic devices.In this review,we introduce the forms of exciton existence in 2D materials and several promising 2D materials with good applications at first.Then,we summarize relevant contemporary tools for probing exciton dynamics and methods of regulating 2D exciton transport,for instance,electrical regulation,stress/surface wave regulation and moirépotential regulation,etc.Finally,we conclude the general development of regulation in 2D materials and propose several possible opportunities of application prospect.

Effect of ionic liquids on stability of O/W miniemulsion for application of low emission coating products

Room temperature ionic liquids(RTILs) are non-volatile organic salts. They may replace conventional coalescing agents in latex coating thus reducing volatile organic compounds(VOCs) emission as well as improving performance of latex coating products such as better thermal stability, conductivity, and antifouling property. The formation of latex coating containing RTILs can be achieved by encapsulation of RTILs inside particles via miniemulsion polymerization. In this study, the role of RTILs and its concentration on stability of miniemulsion during storage and polymerization were investigated. It has been found that, above a critical concentration(10 wt%), adding more RTILs to oil phase may weaken miniemulsion stability during storage as well as polymerization. Such observations were consistent with the zeta potential measurement for miniemulsions prepared at the similar conditions. The results obtained here would be a useful guideline for the development of new waterborne coating products with desirable functions and particle sizes.

Safe and Stable Lithium Metal Batteries Enabled by an Amide-Based Electrolyte

The formation of lithium dendrites and the safety hazards arising from flammable liquid electrolytes have seriously hindered the development of high-energy-density lithium metal batteries.Herein,an emerging amide-based electrolyte is proposed,containing LiTFSI and butyrolactam in different molar ratios.1,1,2,2-Tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropylether and fluoroethylene carbonate are introduced into the amide-based electrolyte as counter solvent and additives.The well-designed amide-based electrolyte possesses nonflammability,high ionic conductivity,high thermal stability and electrochemical stability(>4.7 V).Besides,an inorganic/organic-rich solid electrolyte interphase with an abundance of LiF,Li3N and Li-N-C is in situ formed,leading to spherical lithium deposition.The formation mechanism and solvation chemistry of amide-based electrolyte are further inves-tigated by molecular dynamics simulations and density functional theory.When applied in Li metal batteries with LiFePO4 and LiMn2O4 cathode,the amide-based electrolyte can enable stable cycling performance at room temperature and 60℃.This study provides a new insight into the development of amide-based electrolytes for lithium metal batteries.

The nonstructural protein 2C of Coxsackie B virus has RNA helicase and chaperoning activities

RNA-remodeling proteins,including RNA helicases and chaperones,play vital roles in the remodeling of structured RNAs.During viral replication,viruses require RNA-remodeling proteins to facilitate proper folding and/or re-folding the viral RNA elements.Coxsackieviruses B3(CVB3)and Coxsackieviruses B5(CVB5),belonging to the genus Enterovirus in the family Picornaviridae,have been reported to cause various infectious diseases such as hand-foot-and-mouth disease,aseptic meningitis,and viral myocarditis.However,little is known about whether CVB3 and CVB5 encode any RNA remodeling proteins.In this study,we showed that 2C proteins of CVB3 and CVB5 contained the conserved SF3 helicase A,B,and C motifs,and functioned not only as RNA helicase that unwound RNA helix bidirectionally in an NTP-dependent manner,but also as RNA chaperone that remodeled structured RNAs and facilitated RNA strand annealing independently of NTP.In addition,we determined that the NTPase activity and RNA helicase activity of 2C proteins of CVB3 and CVB5 were dependent on the presence of divalent metallic ions.Our findings demonstrate that 2C proteins of CVBs possess RNA-remodeling activity and underline the functional importance of 2C protein in the life cycle of CVBs.

Tai Ji Quan as antihypertensive lifestyle therapy:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:Professional health organizations are not currently recommending Tai Ji Quan alongside aerobic exercise to treat hypertension.We aimed to examine the efficacy of Tai Ji Quan as antihypertensive lifestyle therapy.Methods:Tai Ji Quan interventions published in English and Chinese were included when they involved healthy adults,reported pre-and postintervention blood pressure(BP),and had a non-exercise/non-diet control group.We systematically searched 11 electronic databases for studies published through July 31,2018,yielding 31 qualifying controlled trials.We(1)evaluated the risk of bias and methodological study quality,(2)performed meta-regression analyses following random-effects assumptions,and(3)generated additive models representing the largest possible clinically relevant BP reductions.Results:Participants(n=3223)were middle-aged(56.6±15.1 years of age,mean±SD)adults with prehypertension(systolic BP(SBP)=136.9±15.2 mmHg,diastolic BP(DBP)=83.4±8.7 mmHg).Tai Ji Quan was practiced 4.0±1.4 sessions/week for 54.0§10.6 min/session for 22.3±20.2 weeks.Overall,Tai Ji Quan elicited significant reductions in SBP(-11.3 mmHg,95%CI:-14.6 to-8.0;d+=-0.75)and DBP(-4.8 mmHg,95%CI:-6.4 to-3.1;d+=-0.53)vs.control(p<0.001).Controlling for publication bias among samples with hypertension,Tai Ji Quan trials published in English elicited SBP reductions of 10.4 mmHg and DBP reductions of 4.0 mmHg,which was half the magnitude of trials published in Chinese(SBP reductions of 18.6 mmHg and DBP reductions of 8.8 mmHg).Conclusion:Our results indicate that Tai Ji Quan is a viable antihypertensive lifestyle therapy that produces clinically meaningful BP reductions(i.e.,10.4 mmHg and 4.0 mmHg of SBP and DBP reductions,respectively)among individuals with hypertension.Such magnitude of BP reductions can lower the incidence of cardiovascular disease by up to 40%.
