Endoplasmic reticulum stress and autophagy in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury:PERK as a potential target for intervention

Several studies have shown that activation of unfolded protein response and endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress plays a crucial role in severe cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** occurs within hours after cerebral ischemia,but the relationship between ER stress and autophagy remains *** this study,we established experimental models using oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation in PC12 cells and primary neurons to simulate cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** found that prolongation of oxygen-glucose deprivation activated the ER stress pathway protein kinase-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase(PERK)/eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit alpha(e IF2α)-activating transcription factor 4(ATF4)-C/EBP homologous protein(CHOP),increased neuronal apoptosis,and induced ***,inhibition of ER stress using inhibitors or by si RNA knockdown of the PERK gene significantly attenuated excessive autophagy and neuronal apoptosis,indicating an interaction between autophagy and ER stress and suggesting PERK as an essential target for regulating *** autophagy with chloroquine exacerbated ER stress-induced apoptosis,indicating that normal levels of autophagy play a protective role in neuronal injury following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** from this study indicate that cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury can trigger neuronal ER stress and promote autophagy,and suggest that PERK is a possible target for inhibiting excessive autophagy in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making method-based operational assessment of Chinese electricity markets

The evaluation of the electricity market is crucial for fostering market construction and development. An accurate assessment of the electricity market reveals developmental trends, identifies operational issues, and contributes to stable and healthy market growth. This study investigated the characteristics of electricity markets in different provinces and synthesized a comprehensive set of evaluation indicators to assess market effectiveness. The evaluation framework, comprising nine indicators organized into two tiers, was constructed based on three aspects: market design, market efficiency, and developmental coordination. Furthermore, a novel fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making evaluation model for electricity market performance was developed based on the Fuzzy-BWM and fuzzy COPRAS methodologies. This model aimed to ensure both accuracy and comprehensiveness in market operation assessment. Subsequently, empirical analyses were conducted on four typical provincial-level electricity markets in China. The results indicate that Guangdong's electricity market performed best because of its effective balance of stakeholder interests and adherence to contractual integrity principles. Zhejiang and Shandong ranked second and third, respectively, whereas Sichuan exhibited the poorest market performance. Sichuan's electricity market must be improved in terms of market design, such that market players can obtain a fairly competitive environment. The sensitivity analysis of the constructed indicators verified the effectiveness of the evaluation model proposed in this study. Finally, policy recommendations were proposed to facilitate the sustainable development of China's electricity markets with the objective of transforming them into efficient and secure markets adaptable to the evolution of novel power systems. © 2024

Crocetin Potentiates Neurite Growth in Hippocampal Neurons and Facilitates Functional Recovery in Rats with Spinal Cord Injury

Crocetin is an ingredient of traditional Chinese medicine and has therapeutic potential in various diseases due to its pharmacological properties, such as neuroprotection, anti-oxidative stress, and anti-inflammation. These properties might benefit the treatment of spinal cord *** the present study, we tested the effect of crocetin on neurite growth and sensorimotor dysfunction in a rat model of spinal cord injury. We evaluated the viability of cultured hippocampal neurons with tetrazolium dye and lactate dehydrogenase assays, visualized neurites and axons with antibody staining, and monitored motor and sensorimotor functions in rats with spinal cord injury using the Basso,Beattie, and Bresnahan assay and the contact plantar placement test, respectively, and measured cytokine expression using enzyme-linked immuno-absorbent *** found that crocetin（1） did not alter the viability of cultured hippocampal neurons;（2） accelerated neurite growth with preference for the longest process in individual hippocampal neurons;（3） reversed the inhibition of neurite growth by chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan and Nogo A;（4） facilitated the recovery of motor and sensorimotor functions after spinal cord injury; and（5） did not inhibit pro-inflammatory responses, but restored the innervation of the descending 5-HT system in injured spinalcord. Crocetin promotes neurite growth and facilitates the recovery of motor and sensorimotor functions after spinal cord injury, likely through repairing neuronal connections.

N,N-dimethylformamide tailors solvent effect to boost Zn anode reversibility in aqueous electrolyte

Rechargeable aqueous Zn batteries are considered as promising energy-storage devices because of their high capacity,environmental friendliness and low ***,the hydrogen evolution reaction and growth of dendritic Zn in common aqueous electrolytes severely restrict the application of Zn ***,we develop a simple strategy to suppress side reactions and boost the reversibility of the Zn *** introducing 30%（volume fractions） N,N-dimethylformamide（DMF） to the 2 M Zn（CF3SO3）2-H2O electrolyte（ZHD30）,the preferential hydrogen-bonding effect between DMF and H2O effectively reduces the water activity and hinders deprotonation of the *** ZHD30 electrolyte improves the Zn plating/stripping coulombic efficiency from～95.3% to～99.4% and enhances the cycles from 65 to *** Zn-polyaniline full battery employing the ZHD30 ele ctrolyte can operate over a wide temperature range from-40℃ to+25℃ and deliver capacities of 161.6,127.4 and 65.8 mAh g-1at 25,-20 and-40℃,*** work provides insights into the role of tuning solvent effects in designing low-cost and effective aqueous electrolytes.

The preparation and application of microbubble contrast agent combining ultrasound imaging and magnetic resonance imaging

Encapsulated gas microbubbles are well known as ultrasound contrast agents (UCAs) for medical ultrasound (US) imaging. With the development of shell materials and preparation technologies, the application of microbubbles has been enormously popular in molecular imaging, drug delivery and targeted therapy, etc. The objective of this study is to develop Fe3O4 nanoparticle-inclusion microbubble construct. The in vitro US imaging experiment indicates that the Fe3O4 nanoparticle-inclusion microbubbles have higher US enhancement than those without Fe3O4 nanoparticle-inclusion. According to the microbubble dynamic theory, the acoustic scattering properties can be quantified by scattering cross-section of the shell. The scattering study on Fe3O4 nanoparticle-inclusion microbubbles of different concentration shows that within a certain range of concentration, the scattering cross-section of microbubble increases with the addition of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. When exceeding the concentration range, the ultrasonic characteristic of microbubbles is damped. On the other hand, since Fe3O4 nanoparticles can also serve as the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) contrast agent, they can be potentially used as contrast agents for the double-modality (MRI and US) clinical studies. However, it is important to control the concentration of Fe3O4 nanoparticles in the shell in order to realize the combined functions of US and MRI.

An Isotopic(Sr,Nd and Pb) Tracer Study on the Xiaoxinancha Gold-rich Copper Deposit in Yanbian,China:Implication for the Geodynamic Model of Diagenesis and Metallogenesis

An isotopic study was systemically carried out on the granitic complex,diorite-porphyrite, ores and ore minerals of the 103 Ma Xiaoxinancha gold-rich copper deposit in Jilin province to determine the geodynamic model of diagenesis and *** show that the initial Nd and Sr isotopic compositions of the granitic complex are in the range of 0.70425-0.70505 for（87Sr/86Sr）i, 0.51243-0.51264 for INd,and -1.31 to ＋2.64 forεNd（t）;those of the diorite-porphyrite are in the range from 0.70438-0.70448 for（87Sr/86Sr）,,0.51259-0.51261 for INd,and ＋1.56 to ＋2.09 forεNd（t）.For ores and sulfides,the（87Sr/86Sr）i,7Nd,andεNd（t） values are in the range from 0.70440-0.70805,0.51259- 0.51279 and ＋1.72 to ＋5.56,*** Pb isotopic ratios of the granitic complex range from 18.2992-18.6636 for 206Pb/204Pb,from 15.5343-15.5660 for 207Pb/204Pb,and from 38.1640-38.5657 for 208Pb/204Pb For diorite-porphyrite,the isotopic ratios of 206Pb/204Pb,207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb are 18.3919,15.5794 and 38.3566,respectively,whereas those of the ores and ore sulfides vary from 18.2275-18.3770 for 206Pb/204Pb,from 15.5555-15.5934 for 207Pb/204Pb and from 38.1318-38.3131 for 208Pb/*** results indicate that the mineralization was correlated to the formation and evolution of the granitic complex and the *** with the reported data in petrologic characteristics,elemental geochemistry and chronology,conclusions can be drawn that the geodynamic settings of diagenesis and metallogenesis of this deposit were consistent with the subduction of the Izanagi oceanic plate during the Early *** diorite-porphyrite was formed by the emplacement of the adakitic magma triggered by partial melting of the enriched mantle,which originated from the derivative continental lithospheric mantle metasomatized by dehydration fluids from the subducting oceanic *** granitic complex was produced by fractional crystallization of the mixture between the adakitic magma

Timing of the formation of the Baiyinnuo'er skarn Zn–Pb deposit,NE China:evidence from sulfide Rb–Sr dating

The Baiyinnuo’er deposit in northern China is located in the south section of the Great Xing’an Range,and it is the largest skarn Zn–Pb deposit in the *** and Zn–Pb orebodies mainly occur between the different units of the Permian Huanggangliang Formation,or within the contact zone between the intrusive rocks and the *** Baiyinnuo’er has been well investigated previously,the timing of the Zn–Pb mineralization is still controversial,largely due to the lack of appropriate ore or alteration minerals that could be directly used for isotopic *** this study,we report the results of Rb–Sr isotopic analysis for sphalerite and pyrite samples from the Baiyinnuo’er orebodies,which yielded two isochron ages of 137.4±3.4 and 140.0±7.8 Ma,respectively,constraining the Zn–Pb mineralization time of the deposit as the Early *** data are also consistent with the age of the granitoids in the mining area,indicating a potential genetic relationship between the Early Cretaceous magmatism and *** other intrusion-related hydrothermal deposits(including the two typical skarns,Huanggang and Haobugao)in the southern Great Xing’an Range also share similar mineralization ages(i.e.,140–130 Ma).Together,these data suggest an Early Cretaceous mineralization event in this region,and this largescale mineralization could be related to the regional tectonic regime transition from compression to extension as a result of the rollback of the subducted Paleo-Pacific *** initial87 Sr/86 Sr ratios of the sphalerite and pyrite samples are 0.70569 and 0.70616,respectively,implying that the ore-forming material could have a significant contribution from the mantle *** current study shows that sulfide Rb–Sr dating could be used in deciphering the timing of skarn deposit formation.
