Filter Bank Networks for Few-Shot Class-Incremental Learning

Deep Convolution Neural Networks(DCNNs)can capture discriminative features from large ***,how to incrementally learn new samples without forgetting old ones and recognize novel classes that arise in the dynamically changing world,e.g.,classifying newly discovered fish species,remains an open *** address an even more challenging and realistic setting of this problem where new class samples are insufficient,i.e.,Few-Shot Class-Incremental Learning(FSCIL).Current FSCIL methods augment the training data to alleviate the overfitting of novel *** contrast,we propose Filter Bank Networks(FBNs)that augment the learnable filters to capture fine-detailed features for adapting to future new *** the forward pass,FBNs augment each convolutional filter to a virtual filter bank containing the canonical one,i.e.,itself,and multiple transformed *** back-propagation,FBNs explicitly stimulate fine-detailed features to emerge and collectively align all gradients of each filter bank to learn the canonical *** capture pattern variants that do not yet exist in the pretraining session,thus making it easy to incorporate new classes in the incremental learning ***,FBNs introduce model-level prior knowledge to efficiently utilize the limited few-shot *** experiments on MNIST,CIFAR100,CUB200,andMini-ImageNet datasets show that FBNs consistently outperformthe baseline by a significantmargin,reporting new state-of-the-art FSCIL *** addition,we contribute a challenging FSCIL benchmark,Fishshot1K,which contains 8261 underwater images covering 1000 ocean fish *** code is included in the supplementary materials.

The unique properties of metal oxide surfaces,crystal surfaces and defects play vital roles in biomass upgrading *** this work,hierarchical porous bowl-shaped ZrO_(2)(HB-ZrO_(2))with mixed crystal phase was designed and employed as the support for loading AuPd bimetal with different proportions to synthesize AuPd/HB-ZrO_(2) *** effects of surface chemistry,oxygen defects,bimetal interaction and metal-support interaction of AuPd/HB-ZrO_(2) on catalytic performance for the selective oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural(HMF)to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid(FDCA)were systematically *** Au 2 Pd1/HB-ZrO_(2) catalyst afforded a satisfactory FDCA yield of 99.9%from HMF oxidation using O_(2) as the oxidant in water,accompanied with an excellent FDCA productivity at 97.6 mmol g^(−1) h^(−1).This work offers fresh insights into rationally designing efficient catalysts with oxygen-rich defects for the catalytic upgrading of biomass platform chemicals.

Using Longitudinal Fins to Improve the Melting Performance of Stearic Acid in Thermal Energy Storage Devices

The heat transfer efficiency of a thermal energy storage unit(TESU)can be improved by the addition of novel longitudinal fins.A series of TESUs are analyzed using the finite volume method(FVM)to determine the effect of fin angle on the heat transfer *** the fin angle increases,the TES rate first increases,then decreases,reaching a maximum rate at 60°,where the melting time is less by 30.9%,28.58%,21.99%,9.02%,and 18.1%than at 0°,15°,30°,45°,and 80°,*** addition,it is found that the melting time of the phase change material is significantly greater at the bottom of the *** time percentage of this stage decreases as the fin angle increases through these percentages by 7%,14%,23%,33%,and 20%,***,the response surface methodology(RSM)is applied to optimize the longitudinal fin by minimizing the total melting *** analysis concludes that a fin angle of 58.68°reduces the complete melting time of the stearic acid by 44%below the time at 0°.These findings fill a gap in knowledge of the effect on melting performance of the design angle of longitudinal fins and provide a reference for the design of horizontally placed longitudinal finned thermal energy storage units.

Tumor microenvironment-responsive docetaxel-loaded micelle combats metastatic breast cancer

Efficient tumor-targeting drug delivery systems are urgently needed for treating metastatic breast *** this work, a docetaxel(DTX)-loaded micelle(pDM) as the tumor-microenvironment-responsive delivery platform is developed. The micelle is composed of a pH-sensitive amphiphilic copolymer,poly((1,4-butanediol)-diacrylate-b-N,N-diisopropylethylenediamine)-polyethyleneimine(BD-PEI), and a matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-responsive polymer, poly((1,4-butanediol)-diacrylate-b-N,N-diisopropy lethylenediamine)-peptide-polyethylene glycol(PEG)(BD-peptide-PEG). The PEG block of BD-peptidePEG will be split by MMPs at the tumor microenvironment, which leads to the change of the surface charge and particle size of the micelle to more positive and smaller one. Owing to this transformation and enhanced permeability and retention(EPR) effect, pDM delivers more DTX into tumor tissues and is internalized more efficiently by tumor cells than the non-MMP-sensitive micelles in the 4 T1 tumorbearing mice model. In addition, DTX is released in acidic endo/lysosomes due to the dissociation of the micelle, triggered by the protonation of the hydrophobic block of BD-PEI. As a result, the DTX-loaded micelle inhibits primary tumor growth and pulmonary metastasis effectively. Thus, this pH/MMP-dual-sensitive drug delivery system, which simultaneously attains three keypoints: prolonged circulation time, directional and efficient uptake into tumor cells, and speedy intracellular drug release, is a promising strategy for metastatic breast cancer therapy.

Phase Transformation and Mechanism of Cordierite Ceramic Powders Prepared by Gangue

Cordierite ceramic powders were prepared by solid reaction at low temperatures using gangue as main starting material and adjusting component oxides in formulations. The powders were characterized by XRD, SEM and EDS. The emphasis was placed on the reaction mechanism and phase transformation of synthesized powders. The results show that cordierite ceramic powders can be synthesized at 1 150 - 1 250 % for 3 - 5 h and its morphology is irregularly granular. The synthesis temperature has an important effect on the phase transformations of powders but the reaction time only has a little effect. The impurities in gangue result in the detected secondary magnesium aluminate spinel and the decreased synthesis temperature.

Injectable peptide hydrogel as intraperitoneal triptolide depot for the treatment of orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma

Chemotherapy is among the limited choices approved for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) at intermediate and advanced stages. Preferential and prolonged drug exposure in diseased sites is required to maximize the therapeutic index of the drug. Here, we report an injectable supramolecular peptide hydrogel as an intraperitoneal depot for localized and sustained release of triptolide for the treatment of orthotopic HCC. We chose peptide amphiphile C16-GNNQQNYKD-OH-based nanofibers as gelators and carriers for triptolide. Sustained triptolide release from the hydrogel was achieved over 14 days in vitro, with higher accumulation in and cytotoxicity against human HCC Bel-7402 in comparison with L-02 fetal hepatocytes. After intraperitoneal injection, the hydrogel showed prolonged retention over 13 days and preferential accumulation in the liver, realizing HCC growth inhibition by99.7 ± 0.1% and animal median survival extension from 19 to 43 days, without causing noticeable pathological changes in the major organs. These results demonstrate that injectable peptide hydrogel can be a potential carrier for localized chemotherapy of HCC.

Microwave assisted synthesis of PQ-GDY@NH_(2)-UIO-66(Zr) for improved photocatalytic removal of NOx under visible light

Pyrazinoquinoxaline-based graphdiyne (PQ-GDY) contains a fixed number of sp-sp2hybridized carbon atoms and pyrazine-like sp2hybridized N *** this paper,NH_(2)-UIO-66(Zr) on PQ-GDY substrate was successfully constructed with the help of microwaveassisted ***-GDY surface acts as a microwave antenna under microwave irradiation to rapidly absorb microwave energy and form hot spots (hot spot effect),which facilitates the formation of well-dispersed NH2-UIO-66(Zr) with good *** absorption spectra show that high hole transport property of PQ-GDY can accelerate the migration of photogenerated holes from NH2-UIO-66(Zr) to PQ-GDY and greatly reduce the recombination rate of photogenerated electrons and holes due to the strong interaction between PQ-GDY and NH2-UIO-66(Zr).Under visible light (λ≥420 nm),PQ-GDY@NH_(2)-UIO-66(Zr) shows high photocatalytic stability and high NO_(x)removal rate up to 74%,which is 44% higher than that of primitive NH_(2)-UIO-66(Zr).At the same time,it inhibits the formation of toxic byproducts (NO2) and limits its concentration to a low level.

Boosting sulfur redox kinetics by a pentacenetetrone redox mediator for high-energy-density lithium-sulfur batteries

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)battery is considered as a promising energy storage system due to its ultrahigh theoretical energy density of 2,600 Wh·kg^(−1).Redox mediation strategies have been proposed to promote the sluggish sulfur redox ***,the applicability of redox mediators in practical high-energy-density Li-S batteries has seldomly been *** this work,5,7,12,14-pentacenetetrone(PT)is proposed as an effective redox mediator to promote the sulfur redox kinetics under practical working conditions.A high initial specific discharge capacity of 993 mAh·g^(−1) is achieved at 0.1 C with high-sulfur-loading cathodes of 4.0 mgS·cm^(−2)and low electrolyte/sulfur(E/S)ratio of 5μL·mg_(S)^(−1).More importantly,practical Li-S pouch cells with the PT mediator realize an actual initial energy density of 344 Wh·kg^(−1)and cycle stably for 20 cycles wih a high capacity retention of 88%.This work proposes an effective redox mediator and further verifies the redox mediation strategy for practical high-energydensity Li-S batteries.

Hysteroscopy is widely used for the detection and treatment of intrauterine *** technique,however,sometimes has limitations and even second *** report a rare case of severe intrauterine adhesion caused by uterine perforation with a fallopian tube incarceration.A 24-year-old woman underwent severe intrauterine adhesion and secondary infertility caused by fallopian tube incaceration into the uterine cavity after postpartum *** hysteroscopy created a false passage through the previous uterine perforation,entered into the cavity of incarcerated fallopian tube,and led to iatrogenic *** hysteroscopy combined with laparoscopy revealed a connection between the right tubal lumen and the uterine cavity by the false passage,released the adhesion,and reconstructed the uterine *** recognition of uterine perforation or tissue incarcerarion is significant in preventing further damage.

Renal Tubular Dysgenesis Associated with Compound Heterozygous ACE Mutations

Inherited renal tubular dysgenesis(RTD),a rare,autosomal recessive disorder is caused by mutations in the genes encoding components of the renin-angiotensin pathway:angiotensinogen(AGT),renin(REN),angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE),and angiotensinΙΙreceptor type 1(AGTR1).It characterized by the absence or poor development of renal tubules,and associated with oligohydramnios,Potter sequence and neonatal death due to renal or respiratory *** report a family with two mutations in the coding region of the ACE gene:a nonsense mutation in exon4(c.538C>T)and a frameshift deletion at nucleotide 3073 and nucleotide 3074 in exon20(c.3073_3074delTC).The mutations were in the compound heterozygous state causing disease,because each parent had their own mutation.
