Decoding six basic emotions from brain functional connectivity patterns

Although distinctive neural and physiological states are suggested to underlie the six basic emotions,basic emotions are often indistinguishable from functional magnetic resonance imaging(f MRI)voxelwise activation(VA)patterns.Here,we hypothesize that functional connectivity(FC)patterns across brain regions may contain emotion-representation information beyond VA patterns.We collected whole-brain f MRI data while human participants viewed pictures of faces expressing one of the six basic emotions(i.e.,anger,disgust,fear,happiness,sadness,and surprise)or showing neutral expressions.We obtained FC patterns for each emotion across brain regions over the whole brain and applied multivariate pattern decoding to decode emotions in the FC pattern representation space.Our results showed that the whole-brain FC patterns successfully classified not only the six basic emotions from neutral expressions but also each basic emotion from other emotions.An emotion-representation network for each basic emotion that spanned beyond the classical brain regions for emotion processing was identified.Finally,we demonstrated that within the same brain regions,FC-based decoding consistently performed better than VA-based decoding.Taken together,our findings revealed that FC patterns contained emotional information and advocated for paying further attention to the contribution of FCs to emotion processing.

Flavored vegetable oils have attracted more and more attentions from consumers and researchers due to their high oxidative stability and sensory quality.In the present study,the quality indices,chemical composition and frying performance of galangal flavored sunflower oil prepared by infusion method(GFSO-I),combination pressing method(GFSO-C)and direct addition method(GFSO-A)were investigated.The results displayed that the preparation time,the levels for the acid value(AV),peroxide value(PV),p-anisidine value(AnV),total oxidation value(TOTOX),and the values for total polar compounds(TPC),thiobarbituric acid(TBA),K232 and K268 of GFSO-C were prominently low(P<0.05),compared with that of GFSO-I and GFSO-A,while the fatty acid composition of them were similar.In the frying of Chinese Maye(tradional Chinese food,fried dough stick)at 180°C for 30 h,the values for TPC,TBA,K232 and K268,polymer,viscosity and b*of GFSO-C were obviously low(P<0.05),while the value for L*was obviously high(P<0.05),compared with that of GFSO-I and GFSO-A.In the sensory evaluation,the flavor,taste,crispness and overall acceptance of Chinese Maye fried by GFSO-C were better than that of Chinese Maye fried by GFSO-I and GFSO-A.Consequently,GFSO-C is more suitable for cooking,and the combination pressing method is optimal for industrial production of GFSO.

An efficient and facile method to reduce nitriles to amine-boranes was developed.Aromatic and aliphatic nitriles were readily reduced in the presence of both sodium amidoborane(NaAB)and LiBH4 at room temperature in THF without catalysts,affording products in up to 99%yield.The products can be easily hydrolyzed to afford primary amines or utilized as reducing reagents for one-pot reductive amination.The key finding of the reaction study is the synergy effect between NaAB and LiBH4;otherwise the reaction yield would drop substantially from 92%to 22%or 12%when NaAB and LiBH4 are used separately.

At present,thermal conductivity is usually taken as a constant value in the calculation of building energy con-sumption and load.However,in the actual use of building materials,they are exposed to the environment with continuously changing temperature and relative humidity.The thermal conductivity of materials will inevitably change with temperature and humidity,leading to deviations in the estimation of energy consumption in the building.Therefore,in this study,variations in the thermal conductivity of eight common building insulation materials(glass wool,rock wool,silica aerogel blanket,expanded polystyrene,extruded polystyrene,phenolic foam,foam ceramic and foam glass)with temperature(in the range of 20-60°C)and relative humidity(in the range of 0-100%)were studied by experimental methods.The results show that the thermal conductivity of these common building insulation materials increased approximately linearly with increasing temperature with maxi-mum growth rates from 3.9 to 22.7%in the examined temperature range.Due to the structural characteristics of materials,the increasing thermal conductivity of different materials varies depending on the relative humidity.The maximum growth rates of thermal conductivity with humidity ranged from 8.2 to 186.7%.In addition,the principles of selection of building insulation materials in different humidity regions were given.The research re-sults of this paper aim to provide basic data for the accurate value of thermal conductivity of building insulation materials and for the calculation of energy consumption.

Base editing technologies enable precise base alterations in a target gene without inducing double-stranded breaks,and thus are powerful for targeted gene evolution in vivo(Zhan et al.,2021).The newly evolved cytosine deaminases such as evoAPOBEC1,evoFERNY and evoCDA1,adenine deaminase TadA8e,and a near-protospacer adjacent motif(PAM)less SpRYCas9 variant,have greatly increased base editing efficiency and expanded the editing window in plants(Zhang et al.,2021;Xu et al.,2021c;Tan et al.,2022).Dual cytosine and adenine editors enable concurrent C-to-T and A-to-G conversions and thus enrich the editing outcome.Although plant dual editors have been developed(Li et al.,2020;Xu et al.,2021a),they are rarely applied in evolving plant genes due to low efficiencies.

It is necessary to satisfy the flexible requirements of solar heat storage systems to provide efficient heating and constant-temperature domestic hot water at different periods.A novel heat storage tank with both stratified and mixing functions is proposed,which can realize the integration of stable stratification and rapid mixing modes.In this research,a three-dimensional heat transfer model of the heat storage tank with stratified and mixed dual modes was established,and a thermal performance test system for the tank was built in the State Key Laboratory of Green Building in Western China.Moreover,a new evaluation index representing the mixing speed is proposed.The stratification effect and mixing characteristics of the tank were studied under different comprehensive conditions.The results show that the exergy efficiency of the tank with a stratified pipe can be increased by 10%–15%compared to that of a conventional tank.Additionally,the recommended optimal flow rate range for well-stratified tanks is 4–6 L/min.The mixing nozzle of the tank reduces the mixing reaction coefficient by 0.27 and significantly reduces the mixing time.This study provides critical guidance to meet the flexible thermal needs of users and implement high-performance applications using the stratified and mixing modes of heat storage tanks.

Artificial intelligence(AI)has made a profound impact on our daily life.The 6 th generation mobile networks(6G)should be designed to enable AI services.The native intelligence is introduced as an important feature in 6G.6G native AI network is realized by the philosophy of federated learning(FL)to ensure data security and privacy.Federated learning over wireless communication networks is treated as a potential solution to realize native AI.However,introducing FL in the 6G will lead to expansive communication cost and unstable FL convergence with unreliable air interface.In this paper,we propose a solution for FL over wireless networks and analyze the training efficiency.To make full use of the advantages of the proposed network,we introduce a communication-FL joint optimization(CFJO)algorithm by jointly considering the effects of uplink resource,energy consumption and latency constraints.CFJO derives a transmission strategy with resource allocation and retransmissions to reduce the wireless transmission interruption probability and model upload latency.The simulation results show that CFJO significantly improves the model training efficiency and convergence performance with lower interruption probability under the latency constraint.

To alleviate the problem of under-utilization features of sentence-level relation extraction,which leads to insufficient performance of the pre-trained language model and underutilization of the feature vector,a sentence-level relation extraction method based on adding prompt information and feature reuse is proposed.At first,in addition to the pair of nominals and sentence information,a piece of prompt information is added,and the overall feature information consists of sentence information,entity pair information,and prompt information,and then the features are encoded by the pre-trained language model ROBERTA.Moreover,in the pre-trained language model,BIGRU is also introduced in the composition of the neural network to extract information,and the feature information is passed through the neural network to form several sets of feature vectors.After that,these feature vectors are reused in different combinations to form multiple outputs,and the outputs are aggregated using ensemble-learning soft voting to perform relation classification.In addition to this,the sum of cross-entropy,KL divergence,and negative log-likelihood loss is used as the final loss function in this paper.In the comparison experiments,the model based on adding prompt information and feature reuse achieved higher results of the SemEval-2010 task 8 relational dataset.

The SOLIDS 6G Mobile Network Architecture:Driving Forces,Features,and Functional Topology

With the large-scale commercial launch of fifth generation(5G)mobile network,the development of new services and applications catering to the year 2030,along with the deep convergence of information,communication,and data technologies(ICDT),and the lessons and experiences from 5G practice will drive the evolution of the next generation of mobile networks.This article surveys the history and driving forces of the evolution of the mobile network architecture and proposes a logical function architecture for sixth generation(6G)mobile network.The proposed 6G network architecture is termed SOLIDS(related to the following basic features:soft,on-demand fulfillment,lite,native intelligence,digital twin,and native security),which can support self-generation,self-healing,self-evolution,and self-immunity without human involvement and address the primary issues in the legacy 5G network(e.g.,high cost,high power consumption,and highly complicated operation and maintenance),significantly well.
