Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID‐19)has rapidly swept around the globe since its emergence near 2020.However,people have failed to fully understand its origin or mutation.Defined as an international biosafety incident,COVID‐19 has again encouraged worldwide attention to reconsider the importance of biosafety due to the adverse impact on personal well‐being and social stability.Most countries have already taken measures to advocate progress in biosafety‐relevant research,aiming to prevent and solve biosafety problems with more advanced techniques and products.Herein,we propose a new concept of biosafety chemistry and reiterate the notion of biosafety materials,which refer to the interdisciplinary integration of biosafety and chemistry or materials.We attempt to illustrate the exquisite association that chemistry and materials science possess with biosafety‐science,and we hope to provide a pragmatic perspective on approaches to utilize the knowledge of these two subjects to handle specific biosafety issues,such as detection and disinfection of pathogenic microorganisms,personal protective equipment,vaccine adjuvants and specific drugs,etc..In addition,we hope to promote multidisciplinary cooperation to strengthen biosafety research and facilitate the development of biosafety products to defend national security in the future.

Biomass-derived self-supporting sulfur host with NiS/C composite for high-loading Li-S battery cathode

High sulfur loading is a practical way to realize the advantages of high energy density lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries.Herein,we report a biomass-derived flexible self-supporting carbon(SSC)coupled with Ni S/C used as a sulfur host for high-efficiency sulfur storage.A high areal sulfur loading of 5.3 mg cm-2can be achieved in the as-prepared composite host,and physical/chemical dual blocking effects for polysulfides are implemented in the SSC-Ni S/C electrode.The 3D SSC with an interwoven structure offers a large surface area and wide internal space for sulfur accommodation.Moreover,the powerful capability of physical immobilization/chemical anchoring of the polysulfides endowed by SSC and Ni S mitigates the shuttle effect.We compared electrodes with different current collectors,and the SSC-Ni S/C-1200 electrode material showed outstanding electrochemical performance,exhibiting a first specific capacity of 1268.36 m A h g-1at a high sulfur loading of 5.3 mg cm-2.Additionally,the SSC-Ni S/C-1200 electrode exhibited a good remaining capacity of 555.15 m A h g-1at a current density of0.5 A g-1with a high sulfur loading of 3.3 mg cm-2after 300 cycles.In addition,the active material loaded in the traditional way easily falls off when the conventional current collector is folded with increasing sulfur loading,but the flexible self-supporting carbon current collector can solve this problem.This study prepared a flexible free-standing 3D interconnected carbon current collector.Via the introduction of amorphous carbon-coated Ni S,the self-supporting cathode SSC-Ni S/C-1200 achieved high sulfur loading that results in excellent electrochemical performance,providing a reference for future research on high sulfur loading in lithium-sulfur batteries.

The relationship between uric acid and blood pressure in patients with diabetes:results from NHANES database

Objective This study aimed to explore the association between uric acid(UA)and blood pressure(BP)in patients with diabetes receiving anti-diabetic therapy.Methods A cross-sectional study with 2878 individuals from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)was performed.Multiple linear regression analysis was applied to explore the relationship between UA and BP in the antihypertensive and anti-diabetic group(n=1966)and the anti-diabetic group(n=912).Results Between the group with antihypertensive and anti-diabetic therapy and the group with anti-diabetic therapy alone,no significant association was found with systolic blood pressure(SBP).However,the significantly negative association was present in diastolic blood pressure(DBP),and the size of the effect was(β,-0.35(95%CI:-0.68~-0.02))and(β,-0.60(95%CI:-1.13~-0.08)),respectively.The trend test was not significant between UA and SBP in two groups,but the trend test was significant between UA and DBP in the antihypertensive and anti-diabetic group(P=0.005).Conclusion In our study,we found that the association between UA and DBP in patients with diabetes receiving anti-diabetic therapy was negative.

Growth mechanisms for spherical Ni_(0.815)Co_(0.15)Al_(0.035)(OH)_(2) precursors prepared via the ammonia complexation precipitation method

The microstructures of precursors strongly affect the electrochemical performance of Ni-rich layerstructured cathode materials.In this study,the growth behaviour of Ni_(0.815)Co_(0.15)Al_(0.035)(OH)_2(NCA) prepared via the ammonia complexation precipitation method in a 50-L-volume continuously stirred tank reactor(CSTR) is studied in detail.The growth of Ni(OH)2-based hydroxide can be divided into a nucleation process,an agglomeration growth process,a process in which multiple growth mechanisms coexist,and an interface growth process over time,while the inner structure of the CSTR can be divided into a nucleation zone,a complex dissolution zone,a growth zone,and a maturation zone.The concentration of ammonium ions affects the growth habit of the primary crystal significantly due to its specific adsorption on the electronegative crystal plane.When the ammonia concentration is 2.0 mol L^(-1).The LiNi_(0.815)Co_(0.15)Al_(0.035)O_2 materials inherit the grain structure of the precursor.Materials prepared from precursors with(1 0 1)preferential primary particles show a higher specific capacity and better rate performance than those that were prepared from(0 0 1) preferential primary particles,but the latter realize a better cycling performance than the former.

Factors associated with in-hospital mortality in sepsis patients admitted to the emergency department:A retrospective study

Objective Most patients with sepsis were diagnosed in the emergency department when admitted to the hospital. This study aimed to explore independent factors for hospital mortality in sepsis patients in the emergency department.Methods It was a retrospective study. All patients with sepsis admitted to the emergency department of Changsha Central Hospital between 1 July 2020 and 1 July 2021 were included. Variables that showed significant differences between the survivor group and the non-survivor group were caculated in multivariate logistic regression analysis. Independent factors associated with in-hospital mortality in sepsis were identified.Results A total of 194 patients were included in this study. In-hospital mortality was 17.01%(n=33). Two independent risk factors including albumin(ALB) and urea nitrogen were identified by multivariate logistic regression analysis. The optimal cut-off values of ALB and urea nitrogen were 26.5g/L and 8.03mmol/L. While combined ALB and urea nitrogen, the area under the ROC curve(AUC) was 0.790, which was superior to the SOFA, qSOFA, and APACHEⅡscores.Conclusions Independent factors including ALB and urea nitrogen for in-hospital mortality in sepsis in the emergency department were identified. It could help physicians identify those patients with a higher risk of a poor prognosis early and easily, so intervention and management could be performed quickly.

Pain interventional therapy,known as the most promising medical technology in the 21st century,refers to clinical treatment technology based on neuroanatomy,neuroimaging,and nerve block technology to treat pain diseases.Compared with traditional destructive surgery,interventional pain therapy is considered a better and more economical choice of treatment.In recent years,a variety of minimally invasive pain interventional therapy techniques,such as neuroregulation,spinal cord electrical stimulation,intervertebral disc ablation,and intrasheath drug infusion systems,have provided effective solutions for the treatment of patients with post-herpetic neuralgia,complex regional pain syndrome,cervical/lumbar disc herniation,and refractory cancer pain.

Advanced electrolyte engineering is an important strategy for developing high-efficacy lithium(Li)metal batteries(LMBs).Unfortunately,the current electrolytes limit the scope for creating batteries that perform well over temperature ranges.Here,we present a new electrolyte design that uses fluorosulfonyl carboxylate as a non-solvating solvent to form difluoroxalate borate(DFOB-)anion-rich solvation sheath,to realize high-performance working of temperature-tolerant LMBs.With this optimized electrolyte,favorable SEI and CEI chemistries on Li metal anode and nickel-rich cathode are achieved,respectively,leading to fast Li^(+)transfer kinetics,dendrite-free Li deposition and suppressed electrolyte deterioration.Therefore,Li||LiNi_(0.80)Co_(0.15)Al_(0.05)O_(2)batteries with a thin Li foil(50μm)show a long-term cycling lifespan over 400 cycles at 1C and a superior capacity retention of 90%after 200 cycles at 0.5C under 25℃.Moreover,this electrolyte extends the operating temperature from-10 to 30℃and significantly improve the capacity retention and Coulombic efficiency of batteries are improved at high temperature(60℃).Fluorosulfonyl carboxylates thus have considerable potential for use in high-performance and allweather LMBs,which broadens the new exploring of electrolyte design.

Aiming at the design of aero-engine transient controller,an improved closed-loop control method is adopted to convert the rotor acceleration command into the rotor speed command which contains N-dot command information.This method avoids the differentiator of the controller amplifying the interference to couple into the control loop,which provides better performance and robustness of dynamic control to engine.In addition,the entire controller design uses the inverse model to obtain the engine acceleration and deceleration N-dot schedules.The N-dot command is calculated through interpolation of the N-dot schedules according to the engine output information.From the simulation,the actual rotor speed of the engine can track the expected speed well with the power lever moved fast,and in the case of an interference signal,the interference effect can be quickly attenuated and then return to the steady state.

Plasmodium parasites causing malaria have developed resistance to most of the antimalarials in use,in-cluding the artemisinin-based combinations,which are the last line of defense against malaria.This ne-cessitates the discovery of new targets and the development of novel antimalarials.Plasmodium falciparum alanyl aminopeptidase(PfA-M1)and leucyl aminopeptidase(PfA-M17)belong to the M1 and M17 family of metalloproteases respectively and play critical roles in the asexual erythrocytic stage of development.These enzymes have been suggested as potential antimalarial drug targets.Herein we describe the devel-opment of peptidomimetic hydroxamates as PfA-M1 and PfA-M17 dual inhibitors.Most of the compounds described in this study display inhibition at sub-micromolar range against the recombinant PfA-M1 and PfA-M17.More importantly,compound 26 not only exhibits potent malarial aminopeptidases inhibitory activities(PfA-M1 K i=0.11±0.0002μmol/L,PfA-M17 K_(i)=0.05±0.005μmol/L),but also possesses remarkable selectivity over the mammalian counterpart(pAPN K_(i)=17.24±0.08μmol/L),which endows 26 with strong inhibition of the malarial parasite growth and negligible cytotoxicity on human cell lines.Crystal structures of PfA-M1 at atomic resolution in complex with four different compounds including compound 26 establish the structural basis for their inhibitory activities.Notably,the terminal ureidoben-zyl group of 26 explores the S2' region where differences between the malarial and mammalian enzymes are apparent,which rationalizes the selectivity of 26.Together,our data provide important insights for the rational and structure-based design of selective and dual inhibitors of malarial aminopeptidases that will likely lead to novel chemotherapeutics for the treatment of malaria.
