With the rapid development of massively multiplayer online role-playing games(MMORPGs),a huge amount of fine-grained data on the in-game activities of players have been recorded by MMORPGs operators.These data provide considerable opportunities with which to study the dynamic interplay between player behaviors and investigate the roles of various social structures that underlie such interplay.However,it is challenging to model and visualize these behavioral data.This study proposes a novel influence-susceptible model to measure the dynamic interplay between behaviors.Based on this model,we introduce a new visual analytics system called BeXplorer.This system enables analysts to interactively explore the dynamic interplay between player purchase and communication behaviors and to examine the manner in which this interplay is bound by social structures where players are embedded.Three case studies and a task-based evaluation are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of our method.

Recent years have witnessed the rapid development and wide adoption of immersive head-mounted devices,such as HTC VIVE,Oculus Rift,and Microsoft HoloLens.These immersive devices have the potential to significantly extend the methodology of urban visual analytics by providing critical 3D context information and creating a sense of presence.In this paper,we propose a theoretical model to characterize the visualizations in immersive urban analytics.Furthermore,based on our comprehensive and concise model,we contribute a typology of combination methods of 2D and 3D visualizations that distinguishes between linked views,embedded views,and mixed views.We also propose a supporting guideline to assist users in selecting a proper view under certain circumstances by considering visual geometry and spatial distribution of the 2D and 3D visualizations.Finally,based on existing work,possible future research opportunities are explored and discussed.

Data quality management,especially data cleansing,has been extensively studied for many years in the areas of data management and visual analytics.In the paper,we first review and explore the relevant work from the research areas of data management,visual analytics and human-computer interaction.Then for different types of data such as multimedia data,textual data,trajectory data,and graph data,we summarize the common methods for improving data quality by leveraging data cleansing techniques at different analysis stages.Based on a thorough analysis,we propose a general visual analytics framework for interactively cleansing data.Finally,the challenges and opportunities are analyzed and discussed in the context of data and humans.

Cobalt doping amount determines dominant reactive species in peroxymonosulfate activation via porous carbon catalysts co-doped by cobalt and nitrogen

Switching the reaction routes in peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes have attracted much attention but remain challenging.Herein,a series of Co-N/C catalysts with different compositions and structures were prepared by using bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks based on ZIF-8 and ZIF-67(x Zn/Co-ZIFs).Results show that Co doping amount could mediate the transformation of the activation pathway of PMS over CoN/C.When Co doping amount was less than 10%,the constructed x Co-N/C/PMS system(x≤10%)was singlet oxygen-dominated reaction;however further increasing Co doping amount would lead to the generation and coexistence of sulfate radicals and high-valent cobalt,besides singlet oxygen.Furthermore,the nitrogen-coordinated Co(Co-NX)sites could serve as main catalytically active sites to generate singlet oxygen.While excess Co doping amount caused the formation of Co nanoparticles from which leached Co ions were responsible for the generation of sulfate radicals and high-valent cobalt.Compared to undoped N/C,Co doping could significantly enhance the catalytic performance.The 0.5%Co-N/C could achieve the optimum degradation(0.488 min^(-1))and mineralization abilities(78.4%)of sulfamethoxazole among the investigated Co-N/C catalysts,which was superior to most of previously reported catalysts.In addition,the application prospects of the two systems in different environmental scenarios(pH,inorganic anions and natural organic matter)were assessed and showed different degradation behaviors.This study provides a strategy to regulate the reactive species in PMS-based advanced oxidation process.

The unfolded protein response(UPR)is a cellular stress response pathway activated when the endoplasmic reticulum,a crucial organelle for protein folding and modification,encounters an accumulation of unfolded or misfolded proteins.The UPR aims to restore endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis by enhancing protein folding capacity,reducing protein biosynthesis,and promoting protein degradation.It also plays a pivotal role in coordinating signaling cascades to determine cell fate and function in response to endoplasmic reticulum stress.Recent research has highlighted the significance of the UPR not only in maintaining endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis but also in influencing various physiological processes in the nervous system.Here,we provide an overview of recent findings that underscore the UPR’s involvement in preserving the function and viability of neuronal and myelinating cells under physiological conditions,and highlight the critical role of the UPR in brain development,memory storage,retinal cone development,myelination,and maintenance of myelin thickness.

LONP1 ameliorates liver injury and improves gluconeogenesis dysfunction in acute-on-chronic liver failure

Background:Acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)is a severe liver disease with complex pathogenesis.Clinical hypoglycemia is common in patients with ACLF and often predicts a worse prognosis.Accumulating evidence suggests that glucose metabolic disturbance,especially gluconeogenesis dysfunction,plays a critical role in the disease progression of ACLF.Lon protease-1(LONP1)is a novel mediator of energy and glucose metabolism.However,whether gluconeogenesis is a potential mechanism through which LONP1 modulates ACLF remains unknown.Methods:In this study,we collected liver tissues from ACLF patients,established an ACLF mouse model with carbon tetrachloride(CCl 4),lipopolysaccharide(LPS),and D-galactose(D-gal),and constructed an in vitro hypoxia and hyperammonemia-triggered hepatocyte injury model.LONP1 overexpression and knockdown adenovirus were used to assess the protective effect of LONP1 on liver injury and gluconeogenesis regulation.Liver histopathology,biochemical index,mitochondrial morphology,cell viability and apoptosis,and the expression and activity of key gluconeogenic enzymes were detected to explore the underlying protective mechanisms of LONP1 in ACLF.Results:We found that LONP1 and the expressions of gluconeogenic enzymes were downregulated in clinical ACLF liver tissues.Furthermore,LONP1 overexpression remarkably attenuated liver injury,which was characterized by improved liver histopathological lesions and decreased serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT)and aspartate aminotransferase(AST)in ACLF mice.Moreover,mitochondrial morphology was improved upon overexpression of LONP1.Meanwhile,the expression and activity of the key gluconeogenic enzymes were restored by LONP1 overexpression.Similarly,the hepatoprotective effect was also observed in the hepatocyte injury model,as evidenced by improved cell viability,reduced cell apoptosis,and improved gluconeogenesis level and activity,while LONP1 knockdown worsened liver injury and gluconeogenesis disorders.Conclusion:We demonstrated that gluconeogenesis dysfunc

In this paper,the numerical simulation method is used to study the ballistic performances of hourglass lattice sandwich structures with the same mass under the vertical incidence of fragments.Attention is paid to elucidating the influences of rod cross-section dimensions,structure height,structure layer,and rod inclination angle on the deformation mode,ballistic performances,and ability to change the ballistic direction of fragments.The results show that the ballistic performances of hourglass lattice sandwich structures are mainly affected by their structural parameters.In this respect,structural parameters optimization of the hourglass lattice sandwich structures enable one to effectively improve their ballistic limit velocity and,consequently,ballistic performances.

A resilience-incorporated risk assessment framework is proposed and demonstrated in this study to manifest the advantageous seismic resilience of precast concrete frame(PCF)structures with“dry”connections in terms of their low damage and rapid recovery.The framework integrates various uncertainties in the seismic hazard,fragility,capacity,demand,loss functions,and post-earthquake recovery.In this study,the PCF structures are distinguished from ordinary reinforced concrete frame(RCF)structures by characterizing multiple limit states for the PCF based on its unique damage mechanisms.Accordingly,probabilistic story-wise pushover analyses are performed to yield story-wise capacities for the predefined limit states.In the seismic resilience analysis,a step-wise recovery model is proposed to idealize the functionality recovery process,with separate considerations of the repair and non-repair events.The recovery model leverages the economic loss and downtime to delineate the stochastic post-earthquake recovery curves for the resilience loss estimation.As such,contingencies in the probabilistic post-earthquake repairs are incorporated and the empirical judgments on the recovery parameters are largely circumvented.The proposed framework is demonstrated through a comparative study between two“dry”connected PCFs and one RCF designed as alternative structural systems for a prototype building.The results from the risk quantification indicate that the PCFs show reduced loss hazards and lower expected losses relative to the RCF.Particularly,the PCF equipped with energy dissipation devices at the“dry”connections largely reduces the expected economic loss,downtime,and resilience loss by 29%,56%,and 60%,respectively,compared to the RCF.
