Responses of soil microbial communities to manure and biochar in wheat cultivation of a rice-wheat rotation agroecosystem in East China

Soil contamination in agroecosystems remains a global environmental problem. Biochar has been suggested as an organic amendment to alleviate soil pollution, sequester carbon(C), and improve soil fertility. However, information on how bacterial and fungal communities in acidic bulk and rhizosphere soils respond to swine manure and its biochar is still lacking. In this study, biochar and swine manure were applied at two rates of 1.5 and 3 t ha-1in a rice-wheat rotation field to assess how soil characteristics, especially p H and chemical element availability, correlate to compositional variations of bacteria and fungi in bulk and rhizosphere soils. Our results showed that high rates of biochar and manure promoted the bacterial richness in bulk and rhizosphere soils by increasing soil pH and reducing soil arsenic(As) and copper(Cu) availability. Compared with soil As and Cu availability, soil p H had opposite effects on beta diversity of both the bacterial and fungal communities. Specifically, biochar and swine manure applications stimulated the bacterial classes Gemmatimonadetes, Deltaproteobacteria, and Gammaproteobacteria by increasing soil pH and decreasing soil available chemical elements. Opposite trends were observed in fungal communities responding to biochar and manure. For example, biochar restrained the fungal class Eurotiomycetes by decreasing soil As and Cu availability, but manure inhibited Leotiomycetes mainly because of an increase in soil pH and a decrease in soil dissolved organic C. These suggest that both bacterial and fungal communities respond significantly to biochar and manure amendments in both bulk and rhizosphere soils, possibly because of their sensitive adaptation to variations in soil environmental factors, such as pH level and chemical element availability.

Challenges and prospects for room temperature solid-state sodiumsulfur batteries

Room temperature sodium-sulfur(Na-S)batteries,known for their high energy density and low cost,are one of the most promising next-generation energy storage ***,the polysulfide shuttling and uncontrollable Na dendrite growth as well as safety issues caused by the use of organic liquid electrolytes in Na-S cells,have severely hindered their ***-state electrolytes instead of liquid electrolytes are considered to be the most direct and effective solution to solve the above ***,its practical application is still greatly challenged due to the poor interfacial compatibility between the all-solid-state electrolytes and the anode/cathode,ionic conductivity,and the shuttle effect caused by the presence of liquid phase in the quasi-solid-state *** paper presents a comprehensive review of solid-state Na-S batteries from the perspective of regulating interfacial compatibility and improving ionic conductivity as well as suppressing polysulfide *** to different components,solid-state electrolytes were divided into five categories:solid inorganic electrolytes,solid polymer electrolytes,polymer/inorganic solid hybrid electrolytes,gel polymer electrolytes,and liquid–solid inorganic hybrid ***,the prospect of developing high performance solid-state electrolytes to improve the cycling stability of room temperature Na-S cells is envisaged.

Electrochemical conversion of organic compounds and inorganic small molecules

Electrochemical synthesis presents a facile and sustainable strategy to produce valuable molecules. This review summarizes the most recent advances in electrosynthesizing value-added compounds with inorganic small molecules. While “small molecules”refers to a broad spectrum of chemicals, we mainly focus on the electrochemical conversion of CO2, H2O/D2O, NH3and SO2until March 2024. This review intends to compare the results and display general trends throughout the field, with an emphasis on the substrate scope and mechanical aspect. Furthermore, we propose several techniques and protocols that can enable a more fundamental understanding of the electrochemical reaction involving inorganic small molecules and help drive this methodology toward commercialization.

Enhanced service stability and thermoelectric performance in Cu_(2)−δSebased composites

Thermoelectric(TE)materials can directly convert the industrial waste heat into useful electricity based on the Seebeck effect,providing a promising way to tackle the environmental pollution and global energy crisis[1].In the past several decades,many new high-performance TE materials have been discovered to enrich the TE *** them,Cu_(2)−δSe-based TE materials,which are in line with the“phonon-liquid electron-crystal”concept,have sparked widespread interest due to the high TE figure-of-merit(ZT)and the combination of elements that are nontoxic and earth-abundant[2].In 2012,Liu et al.[3]reported a ZT of 1.5 at 1000 K in the stoichiometric Cu_(2)*** alloying S at the Se-site,the ZT was enhanced to around 2.0 at 1000 K[4].Via incorporating carbon nanotubes,the ZT was further enhanced to 2.4 at 1000 K[5].Moreover,Yang et al.[6]and Zhou et al.[7]reported that the ZT of Cu_(2)Se/BiCuSeO composites can reach 2.7–2.8 around 1000 K.

y-Tuning: an efficient tuning paradigm for large-scale pre-trained models via label representation learning

With current success of large-scale pre-trained models(PTMs),how efficiently adapting PTMs to downstream tasks has attracted tremendous attention,especially for PTMs with billions of *** work focuses on designing parameter-efficient tuning paradigms but needs to save and compute the gradient of the whole computational *** this paper,we propose y-Tuning,an efficient yet effective paradigm to adapt frozen large-scale PTMs to specific downstream tasks.y-Tuning learns dense representations for labels y defined in a given task and aligns them to fixed feature *** computing the gradients of text encoder at training phrase,y-Tuning is not only parameterefficient but also *** results show that for DeBERTaxxL with 1.6 billion parameters,y-Tuning achieves performance more than 96%of full fine-tuning on GLUE Benchmark with only 2%tunable parameters and much fewer training costs.

Carbon enhanced nucleophilicity of Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3):A general approach for dendrite-free zinc metal anodes

Zincophilic property and high electrical conductivity are both very important parameters to design novel Zn anode for aqueous Zn-ion batteries(AZIBs).However,single material is difficult to exhibit zincophilic property and high electrical conductivity at the same ***,originating from theoretical calculation,a zincophilic particle regulation strategy is proposed to address these limitations and carbon coated Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)is taken as an example to be a protective layer on zinc metal(NVPC@Zn).Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)(NVP)is a common cathode material for Zn-ion batteries,which is *** materials not only offer an electron pathway to help Zn deposition onto NVPC surface,but also enhance the zinc nucleophilicity of Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3).Hence,this hybrid coating layer can tune zinc deposition and resist side reactions such as hydrogen generation and Zn metal ***,a symmetrical battery with NVPC@Zn electrode displays highly reversible plating/stripping behavior with a long cycle lifespan over 1800 h at2 mA cm^(-2),much better than carbon and Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)solely modified Zn *** the Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)is replaced with zincophobic Al2O3or zincophilic V2O3,the stability of the modified zinc anodes is also *** strategy expands the option of zincophilic materials and provides a general and effective way to stabilize the Zn electrode.

An oscillation-free Hermite WENO scheme for hyperbolic conservation laws

In this paper, the sixth-order oscillation-free Hermite weighted essentially non-oscillatory (OFHWENO) scheme is proposed for hyperbolic conservation laws on structured meshes, where the zeroth- andfirst-order moments are the variables for the governing equations. The main difference from other HWENOschemes existing in the literature is that we add high-order numerical damping terms in the first-order momentequations to control spurious oscillations for the OF-HWENO scheme. The OF-HWENO scheme not only canachieve the designed optimal numerical order, but also can be easily implemented as we use only one set ofstencils in the reconstruction procedure and the same reconstructed polynomials are applied for the zeroth- andfirst-order moment equations. In order to obtain the adaptive order resolution when facing discontinuities, atransition polynomial is added in the reconstruction, where the associated linear weights can also be any positivenumbers as long as their summation equals one. In addition, the OF-HWENO scheme still keeps compactnessas only immediate neighbor values are needed in the space discretization. Some benchmark numerical tests areperformed to illustrate the high-order accuracy, high resolution and robustness of the proposed scheme.

Tensor perturbations from bounce inflation scenario in f(Q)gravity

In this paper,we construct a bounce inflation cosmological scenario in the framework of the modified symmetric teleparallel gravity,namely f(Q)theory,and investigate the tensor perturbations *** is well-known,the tensor perturbations generated in the very early Universe(inflation and pre-inflation regions)can account for the primordial gravitational waves(PGWs)that are to be detected by the next generation of GW *** discuss the stability condition of the tensor perturbations in the bounce inflation process and investigate in detail the evolution of the perturbation *** general form of the tensor power spectrum is obtained both for large as well as small scale *** a result,we show both kinds of modes(short or long wavelength modes),and the tensor spectrum may get a positive tilt in the parametric range where the tensor perturbation proves to be stable—this interestingly hints an enhancement of gravitational waves’amplitude in the background of the f(Q)bounce-inflation ***,we study the LQC-like scenario as a specific case of our model,in which,the primordial tensor power spectrum turns out to be nearly scale-invariant on both small and large scales.
