AIM To assess the validity and reliability of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Colorectal Cancer 29 (EORTC QLQ-CR29) in Chinese patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS From March 2014 to January 2015, 356 patients with CRC from four different hospitals in China were enrolled in the study, and all patients self-administered the EORTC QLQ-CR29 and the quality of life core questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30). Evaluation of the scores was based on the Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS). The reliability and validity of the questionnaires were assessed by Cronbach's proportional to coefficient, the Spearman correlation test and Wilcoxon rank sum test. RESULTS The EORTC QLQ-CR29 showed satisfactory reliability (proportional to > 0.7), although the urinary frequency and blood and mucus in stool dimensions had only moderate reliability (proportional to = 0.608). The multitrait scaling analyses showed good convergent (r > 0.4) and discriminant validity. Significant differences were obtained for each item in the different KPS subgroups (KPS 80). Body image and most single- item dimensions showed statistically significant differences in patients with a stoma compared with the rest of the patients. CONCLUSION The EORTC QLQ-CR29 exhibits high validity and reliability in Chinese patients with CRC, and can therefore be recommended as a valuable tool for the assessment of quality of life in these patients.

Hexagonal barium ferrite BaFe12O19 particles were prepared by sol-gel and coprecipitation methods, respectively. The composition of the so-obtained materials was investigated by means of XRD. By the sol-gel method, non-anticipated intermediate crystalline phases, such as γ-Fe2O3, α-Fe2O3, BaCO3, and BaFe2O4 etc., were formed with the delay of the formation of BaFe12O19. The formation of single phase BaFe12O19 required calcination at 850 oC for 4 h. On the other hand, using coprecipitation technique, amorphous hydroxide precursor was directly transferred into BaFe12O19 almost without the formation of intermediate crystalline phases. BaFe12O19 was prepared by calcining at 700 oC for 3 h. The results were confirmed by ESEM and VSM analyses. Based on the already reported results and the observed results in this study, it can be concluded that the coprecipitaion technique is easier to control than the sol-gel method for preparation of BaFe12O19 at a low temperature.

In this work,we designed and synthesized a novel naphthalenediimide-based n-type conjugated polymer PNDICI,which bears asymmetric backbone containing a 3-chlorothiophene *** asymmetric structure associated with steric effects of the chlorine atom imparts remarkable solubility to PNDICI in various organic solvents,enabling the fabrication of all-polymer solar cells(all-PSCs)by using an environmentally friendly solvent of *** with a novel pyrrolo[3,4-f]benzotriazole-5,7(6H)-dione based p-type conjugated polymer P2F-Si with deep highest occupied molecular orbital energy level,the resulting d-limonene-processed all-PSCs presents an impressively high open-circuit voltage of approaching 1.0 V,corresponding to a very small energy loss of 0.49 *** further morphology optimization by usingγ-valerolactone,we demonstrated an impressive device efficiency of 4.2%,which is among the best photovoltaic performance of devices processed using d-limonene and comparable to that processed by conventional solvent,suggesting the great promise of using greener solvent for fabricating high-performance all-PSCs.

Obstructive jaundice and melena caused by hemocholecyst: A case report

A hemocholecyst (HC) is a clot-filled gallbladder caused by bleeding into its lumen. Obstructive jaundice caused by the compression of HC to the hilar biliary tract is likely to be misdiagnosed as cholangiocarcinoma and is extremely rare. We herein report a case of obstructive jaundice and melena caused by HC. A 57-year-old male patient presented with right upper quadrant pain associated with icteric sclera and melena was suspiciously diagnosed as having malignant cholangiocarcinmoa by abdominal ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Laparotomy found a hematoma in the gallbladder. The hematoma spread to the left hepatic lobe forming an exogenous mass which compressed the hilar biliary tract. Radical cholecystectomy and bile duct exploration with T-tube drainage were performed. Histopathological examination revealed massive necrosis of the gallbladder mucosa with inflammatory cells infiltration as well as intraluminal hematoma formation. One month after operation, a T-tube cholangiography revealed a normal biliary tree. We suggest that HC should be considered in patients with obstructive jaundice and melena after common causes are ruled out.
