Expression and significance of factors related to angiogenesis in choroidal melanoma

AIM: To investigate expression of factors related to angiogenesis: HIF-1 alpha, iNOS, COX-2 and VEGF in choroidal melanoma and its clinical significance. METHODS: Fifty samples of choroidal melanoma and 15 samples of melanocytic nevi of the eyelid identified by pathology were collected. Immunohistochemistry SP method was used to examine the expression of HIF-1 alpha, iNOS, COX-2 and VEGF in these samples. The comparison among groups was done by SPSS 13.0 software. RESULTS: The positive expression rates of HIF-1 alpha, iNOS, COX-2 and VEGF in choroidal melanoma group were significantly higher than those in eyelid nevi group (chi(2)= 6.5542, 7.7224, 8.5828, 15.1749). The positive expression rate of VEGF was associated with the tumor size (chi(2)= 10.9194), but was not associated with pathological type (chi(2)=2.0712) and the situation of scleral invasion (chi(2)= 5.4289). The positive expression rate of HIF-1 alpha was associated with the tumor size (chi(2)=7.1216) and pathological type (chi(2)=9.0889), but was not associated with the situation of scleral invasion (chi(2)=3.3586). The positive expression rate of iNOS was associated with the tumor size (chi(2)=9.5503), but was not associated with pathological type (chi(2)=1.9450) and the situation of scleral invasion (chi(2)=2.3810). The positive expression rate of COX-2 was associated with the tumor size (chi(2)=7.2970), but was not associated with pathological type (chi(2)=1.8421) and the situation of sclera! invasion (chi(2)= 0.4018). The expression of HIF-1 alpha, iNOS and COX-2 were significantly associated with the expression of VEGF (r = 0.9429, 1, 0.9857). The expression of COX-2 was significantly associated with the expression of iNOS (r=0.9857). The expression of HIF-1 alpha was significantly associated with the expression of COX-2 ( r=0.9857). Study on the safety and excellent probiotic properties of fermentation strains isolated from traditional dry-cured duck for starter development

The indigenous starter cultures isolated from fermented food can compete with spoilage and pathogenic bacteria and improve the flavor and organoleptic properties of *** purposes of this work were to screen and assess the safety,potential probiotic,and fermentation properties of indigenous starter cultures isolated from dry-cured *** properties of indigenous starter cultures were investigated by antibiotic resistance,virulence genes,in vivo toxicity,simulated gastrointestinal,adhesion capacity to Caco-2 cells,inoculation fermentation,***,six strains were isolated and identified,including Lactobacillus sakei D15,Weissella hellenica D20,Lactobacillus curvatus D2,Staphylococcus simulans D12,Staphylococcus equorum D19,and Staphylococcus edaphicus *** obtained strains showed high ***,most strains displayed excellent probiotic properties,including tolerance to lower pH,lysozyme,bile salt,and a high survival rate of the simulated gastrointestinal *** adhesion ability of strain cells to Caco-2 cells was 9.22%-14.21%.And the probiotic properties of strains can be strengthened by the expression of specific *** inoculation with the isolated strains(LS-D15,LC-D2 and SS-D12)could contribute to the formation of volatile flavor compounds in ***,results demonstrated that strains possessed excellent safety and probiotic properties,and can be used as starter cultures to enhance the quality and flavor of the dry-cured duck.

QoS-Aware Computation Offloading in LEO Satellite Edge Computing for IoT:A Game-Theoretical Approach

Low earth orbit(LEO) satellite edge computing can overcome communication difficulties in harsh environments, which lack the support of terrestrial communication infrastructure. It is an indispensable option for achieving worldwide wireless communication coverage in the future. To improve the quality-of-service(QoS) for Internet-of-things(IoT) devices, we combine LEO satellite edge computing and ground communication systems to provide network services for IoT devices in harsh environments. We study the QoS-aware computation offloading(QCO) problem for IoT devices in LEO satellite edge computing. Then we investigate the computation offloading strategy for IoT devices that can minimize the total QoS cost of all devices while satisfying multiple constraints, such as the computing resource constraint, delay constraint, and energy consumption constraint. We formulate the QoSaware computation offloading problem as a game model named QCO game based on the non-cooperative competition game among IoT devices. We analyze the finite improvement property of the QCO game and prove that there is a Nash equilibrium for the QCO game. We propose a distributed QoS-aware computation offloading(DQCO) algorithm for the QCO game. Experimental results show that the DQCO algorithm can effectively reduce the total QoS cost of IoT devices.

Numerical investigation of the effect of wedge-type cavitating-bubble generator on attached unsteady cavitating flows using proper orthogonal decomposition method

The objective of this work is to reveal the effect of a passive control method called wedge-type cavitating-bubble generator(WCG)on the cloud cavitation dynamics of National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics(NACA)66 *** simulations are performed using the Partially-averaged Navier-Stokes(PANS)method coupled with the Zwart cavitation *** proper orthogonal decomposition(POD)method is applied to extract the dominant flow *** results show that the WCG can induce the attached cavity to occur just behind the WCG instead of the hydrofoil leading *** the periodical time-evolution process of the unsteady cavity,it is found that the attached cavity with a larger scale around the hydrofoil with WCG has a rougher surface,accompanied with more shedding behaviors of small *** is further illustrated by the POD modes,that is,the mode 1 and modes 2–4 present the large and small cavity vortex structures ***,the dominant frequencies of 50 Hz,47.5 Hz are given by the POD method respectively for the hydrofoils without and with WCG,which is in good agreement with that of FFT *** addition,the correlation distribution of POD modal coefficients shows that the WCG can strengthen the vortex energy as well as the turbulence intensity.

The power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells(PSCs) has rapidly risen from 3.8% to over25.0% in just about one decade, which attracts a lot of attention from the scientific and engineering ***, some challenges remain, hindering the progress of commercialization such as intrinsic and extrinsic(environmental) stabilities, which can be improved by an interface and structural engineering. In recent years, some reports indicate that the interfacial engineering using carbon-based nanomaterials additives plays a crucial role in the process of charge carriers and perovskite crystal growth and thereby enhances device performance and operational stability. Here, we review the development of the varieties of carbon-based nanomaterials applications in PSCs, such as hole-transporting layers(HTLs), electron-transporting layers(ETLs), perovskite bulk layer, and their ***, we proposed a further suggestion about the optimized preparation conditions for the preparation of PSCs, which may inspire the researcher to discover, design,and manufacture the more efficient perovskite solar cells in academic and industry.

A newly defined dioxygenase system from Mycobacterium vanbaalenii PYR-1 endowed with an enhanced activity of dihydroxylation of high-molecular-weight polyaromatic hydrocarbons

An h-adaptive numerical manifold method for solid mechanics problems

The numerical manifold method(NMM) features its dual cover systems, namely the mathematical cover and physical cover,which provide a unified framework for mechanics problems involving continuum and discontinuum deformation. Uniform finite element meshes can be and are usually used to construct the mathematical cover. Though this strategy can handle different kinds of problems in a unified way, it is not economical for cases with steep deformation gradients or singularities. In this paper, using the recovery-based error estimator, an h-adaptive NMM on quadtree meshes is proposed to deal with such cases. The quadtree meshes serve as the mathematical meshes, on which the local refinement is carried out. When the quadtree meshes are refined,the corresponding mathematical cover, physical cover and manifold elements are updated accordingly. To handle the hanging nodes in the quadtree meshes, we resort to mean value coordinates. Comparing to the refinement based on manifold elements,the proposed strategy guarantees consistent structured meshes throughout the adaptive process, thus retaining the unique feature of original NMM. In contrast with polygonal finite element method, an advantage of the proposed method is that the meshes do not need to conform to the crack face and material boundary, which means the adaptive NMM is very suitable for problems with complex geometric boundary. Several representative mechanics problems, including crack problems, are analyzed to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed method. It is demonstrated that the proposed adaptive NMM has higher accuracy and better performance comparing to uniform refinement strategy.

Effects of Buyang Huanwu Decoction on Intestinal Barrier, Intestinal Flora, and Trimethylamine Oxide in Rats with Heart Failure

Objective: To explore the mechanisms of Buyang Huanwu Decoction(BYHWD) modulating the gut microbiome and trimethylamine oxide(TAMO) to exert cardioprotective effects. Methods: Ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery was performed in rats to induce heart failure(HF). Except for the shamoperation group(n=10), 36 operation-induced models were randomized into 3 groups using a random number table(n=12 in each group): the model group, the BYHWD group(15.02 g/kg BYHWD), and the positive group(4.99 g/kg metoprolol succinate). After 4-week treatment(once daily by gavage), echocardiography was applied to evaluate the cardiac function and the Tei index(the ratio of ventricular isovolumic contraction time(IVCT)and isovolumic diastolic time(IVRT) to ejection time(ET)) was calculated;hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining was observed to characterize the pathology of the myocardium and small intestinal villi. D-lactic acid was detected by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Expressions of occludin, claudin-1, and zonula occludens(ZO-1) were detected by Western blot. 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid(16S rRNA) sequencing was used to explore the changes in the intestinal flora. TMAO was detected via liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS). Results: In the echocardiography, the Tei index was considerably lower in the positive and BYHWD groups compared with the model group(P<0.05). Besides, BYHWD improved the pathology of myocardium and small intestine of HF rats and lowered the D-lactic acid content in the serum, when compared with the model group(P<0.05). BYHWD also improved the expression of occludin and claudin-1(P<0.05);in the gut microbiota analysis, BYHWD slowed down modifications in the structure distribution of gut microbiota and regulated the diversity of intestinal flora in HF rats. The content of TMAO in the serum was significantly lowered by BYWHT compared with the model group(P<0.05). Conclusion: BYHWD may delay progression of HF by enhan
