Stem strength affects directly the resistance of wheat plant to lodging. Unfortunately, the determination of the stem strength is not perfect for wheat breeding and genetics up to now. In this study a prostrate tester was engaged for testing the stem strength of 661 wheat varieties and of 1183 single plants from a F2 population. The results showed that the suitable time to determine the stem strength should be from milk stage to dough ripe stage. The stem strength at the maturity would decrease and it was not easy to distinguish the difference among the varieties. The single plant with a strong stem could be judged using the prostrate tester from the F2 population. By testing the stem strength and anatomic characters of 30 varieties, a significant negative relationship between the pith diameter of the upper internodes and the stem strength was observed. On the other hand, there was a significant positive relationship between the stem diameter of the lower internodes and stem strength. It was suggested that a wheat breeder should breed the cultivar with a strong stem, because the spike weight and biomass yield were significantly related to the stem strength.

The content of total flavonoids in an extract of Ginkgo biloba, called GBE50, is 44% by weight. This is significantly greater than that in a standard extract of Ginkgo biloba, designated EGB761. To date, the mechanisms by which GBE50 and EGB761 function remain poorly understood. In the present study, an experimental rat model of aging was induced by intraperitoneal injection of D-galactose, followed by intragastric perfusion of GBE50 （30, 60 mg/kg）, or EGB761 （60 mg/kg）. The water maze scores and hippocampal CA1 synaptic plasticity were evaluated. In the place navigation test, the GBE50 group rats did better than EGB761, while similar scores were obtained in the spatial probe test, and in the platform-switched test. In addition, long-term potentiation was significantly enhanced following high-frequency stimulation in the GBE50 and EGB761 groups, compared with the model group. These results demonstrate that GBE50 and EGB761 improved the learning and memory of aging rats. In particular, GBE50 administered at the 60 mg/kg dose exhibited superior effects over EGB761 at the same 60 mg/kg dose. Furthermore, the enhancement of hippocampal synaptic plasticity may be an underlying mechanism.

Prevalence of amblyopia in congenital blepharoptosis: a systematic review and Meta-analysis

AIM: To conduct a systematic review and Meta-analysis of the published literature to evaluate the pooled prevalence rate of amblyopia in patients with congenital ***: We searched the PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, and Chongqing VIP databases for studies reporting the prevalence of amblyopia in patients with congenital ptosis. The reference lists of relevant studies were scanned. Heterogeneity of effect sizes across studies was tested. We calculated prevalence ratios to compare prevalence estimates for different causes of amblyopia in patients with congenital ptosis, as well as for different geographical regions, year of publication and sample size in subgroup analyses. A systematic review and Meta-analysis were ***: We identified 29 eligible surveys with a total population of 2436. Prevalence rates of amblyopia ranged from 13.8% to 69%. We noted substantial heterogeneity in prevalence estimates for amblyopia in congenital ptosis(Cochran’s χ2 significant at P<0.0001; I2=90%). The pooled prevalence using random-effects models of 29 studies was 32.8%(95%CI: 27.3%-38.4%) in the overall population. Compared to the overall pooled prevalence, amblyopia prevalence was higher in studies in which only subjects with blepharophimosis syndrome were ***: We confirm that nearly one-third of congenital ptosis patients are suffering from or at risk for amblyopia. Patients with blepharophimosis syndrome are more likely to develop amblyopia. The identificationand management of amblyopia should be integral to the treatment of congenital ptosis.

In this article, multiple receiver effects in a non-line-of-sight （NLOS） ultraviolet （UV） communication system is studied. The idea of using multiple receivers for diversity reception is known as a practical, effective and widely applied technique in wireless communications. The current approach is to use multiple antennas at the receiver in order to improve the quality of the received signal. A method of modeling and simulation is proposed to depict the principle and feasibility of the multiple receiver adopted in UV communication. The study provides an insight to the channel characteristics and achievable capabilities of ultraviolet communication systems with multiple receivers. It provides guidelines for practical system design with discussions on trade off between the receiver gain and the additional cost.

AIM：To assess the safety,efficacy,predictability and stability of implantable collamer lens（ICL） for residual refractive error after corneal refractive ***： This study evaluated 19 eyes of 12 patients who underwent ICL implantation after corneal refractive *** were followed up for 1y to 5y of uncorrected distance visual acuity（UDVA）,corrected distance visual acuity（CDVA）,manifest refractive error,flat and steep K value,axial length,intraocular pressure,corneal endothelial cell density,adverse events after ICL ***： The mean follow-up period was 39.05 ±19.22 mo（range,1-5y）.Spherical equivalent refractive error changed from-7.45±3.02 D preoperatively to-0.85±1.10 D 1wk to 1mo after ICL implantation,with the safety and efficacy indices being 1.12 and 1.15,respectively.A total of 52.63% of eyes were within ±0.5 D of the predicted spherical equivalents,73.68% were within ±1.0 D.A trend of mild regression towards myopia with axial elongation after 5y was *** eye with mild anterior capsule opacity and retinal detachment 1y after surgery were ***： ICL implantation is safe and effective for the correction of residual refractive error after corneal refractive surgeries,especially in moderate to high residual myopia.

AIM： To assess Magnetic resonance colonography with fat enema as a method for detection of colorectal neoplasm.METHODS： Consecutive twenty-two patients underwent MR colonography with fat enema before colonoscopy. Tl-weighted three-dimensional fast spoiled gradient- echo with inversion recovery sequence was acquired with the patient in the supine position before and 75 s after Gadopentetate Dimelumine administration. Where by, pre and post MR coronal images were obtained with a single breath hold for about 20 s to cover the entire colon. The quality of MR colonographs and patients＇ tolerance to fat contrast medium was investigated. Colorectal neoplasms identified by MR colonography were compared with those identified on colonoscopy and sensitivity of detecting the lesions was calculated accordingly.RESULTS： MR colonography with fat enema was well tolerated without sedation and analgesia. 120 out of 132 （90.9%） colonic segments were well distended and only 1 （0.8%） colonic segment was poor distension. After contrast enhancement scan, mean contrast-to-noise ratio （CNR） value between the normal colonic wall and lumen was 18.5 ± 2.9 while mean CNR value between colorectal neoplasm and lumen was 20.2± 3.1. By Magnetic resonance colonography, 26 of 35 neoplasms （sensitivity 74.3%） were detected. However, sensitivity of MRC was 95.5% （21 of 22） for neoplasm larger than 10 mm and 55.6% （5 of 9） for 5-10 mm neoplasm.CONCLUSION： MR colonography with fat enema and Tl-weighted three-dimensional fast spoiled gradientecho with inversion recovery sequence is feasible in detecting colorectal neoplasm larger than 10 mm.

Leaf senescence,the last stage of leaf development,is a type of postmitotic senescence and is characterized by the functional transition from nutrient assimilation to nutrient remobilization which is essential for plants’*** initiation and progression of leaf senescence are regulated by a variety of internal and external factors such as age,phytohormones,and environmental *** breakthroughs in dissecting the molecular mechanisms underpinning leaf senescence have benefited from the identification of senescence-altered mutants through forward genetic screening and functional assessment of hundreds of senescence-associated genes(SAGs)via reverse genetic research in model plant Arabidopsis thaliana as well as in crop *** senescence involves highly complex genetic programs that are tightly tuned by multiple layers of regulation,including chromatin and transcription regulation,post-transcriptional,translational and post-translational *** to the significant impact of leaf senescence on photosynthesis,nutrient remobilization,stress responses,and productivity,much effort has been made in devising strategies based on known senescence regulatory mechanisms to manipulate the initiation and progression of leaf senescence,aiming for higher yield,better quality,or improved horticultural performance in crop *** review aims to provide an overview of leaf senescence and discuss recent advances in multi-dimensional regulation of leaf senescence from genetic and molecular network *** also put forward the key issues that need to be addressed,including the nature of leaf age,functional stay-green trait,coordination between different regulatory pathways,source-sink relationship and nutrient remobilization,as well as translational researches on leaf senescence.

Na_(0.5)Bi_(0.5)TiO_(3)(NBT)-based ceramics have been widely used as dielectric materials for energy storage capacitors because of their environmental friendliness and excellent ferroelectric ***,their energy storage performance still needs to be further improved to satisfy the increasing ***,we report a novel 0.90(Na_(0.5)Bi_(0.5))0.7Sr_(0.3)TiO_(3-0.10)Bi(Ni_(0.5)Sn_(0.5))O_(3)(0.90NBST-0.10BNS)ceramic with significantly improved energy density(5.0 J cm3),enhanced recoverable energy density(4.18 J cm^(3))and high energy efficiency(83.64%)through the incorporation of Bi(Ni0.5Sn0.5)O3(BNS),due to the increased breakdown strength and the relaxation ferroelectric(RFE)*** first-order reversal curve(FORC)measurements confirm that the addition of BNS improves RFE properties by breaking the order of long-range *** 0.90NBST-0.10BNS ceramic also possesses an outstanding temperature and frequency stability of energy storage properties in the range of 20C e140C and 1 Hze100 Hz,*** importantly,the discharge properties characterized by a preeminent power density(36.19 MW cm^(3)),transient energy release times(144.2 ns),and high discharge energy density(1.16 J cm3)also synchronously observed in 0.90NBST-0.10BNS *** results show that the 0.90NBST-0.10BNS ceramic with outstanding comprehensive performances is a promising energy storage ceramic candidate for capacitors in high power systems.
