Childhood malaria in the Niger delta area of Nigeria:mothers/care givers'perception,definition and treatment practices

Objective:The objective of the study was to evaluate mothers/care givers perception of malaria,their treatment practices and the effects on the outcome of ***:Four hundred and sixty children were enrolled and their mothers/care givers *** children were screened for malaria parasitaemia and there after,blood specimens were obtained for biochemical and haematological evaluation from those children who met the criteria and tested positive to *** *** cell volume,electrolytes,urea, creatinine,plasma glucose,and serum bilirubin were ***:A total of 460 children were studied, 233(50.7%) males and 227(49.3%) *** malaria cases were 112(24.3%) and severe malaria 348(75.7%).Those who presented early 106(23.0%) and those who presented late 354(77.0%).Perception and definition of malaria as well as the treatment seeking behaviors vary significantly with the level of education of the mothers and care *** without formal education 68(51.9%) wrongly perceived that the etiology of malaria can only be diagnosed by native doctors compared to those with primary six education 61 (26.5%) and junior secondary education 10(10.1%).Only 43(9.3%) gave the correct dose of chloroquine syrup to their sick children,while 32(7.0%) gave at sub optimal ***:Wrong perception of malaria especially the complicated malaria and wrong treatment practices are major contributory factors to the high mortality and morbidity of malaria in *** is therefore a need for health education to correct the wrong ideas about the cause and treatment practices of malaria as part of malaria control programme.

Specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators including maresin 1 mediate resolution but the levels of these are reduced in Alzheimer's disease brain, suggesting that they constitute a novel target for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease to prevent/stop inflammation and combat disease pathology. Therefore, it is important to clarify whether they counteract the expression of genes and proteins induced by amyloid-β. With this objective, we analyzed the relevance of human monocyte–derived microglia for in vitro modeling of neuroinflammation and its resolution in the context of Alzheimer's disease and investigated the pro-resolving bioactivity of maresin 1 on amyloid-β42–induced Alzheimer's disease–like inflammation. Analysis of RNA-sequencing data and secreted proteins in supernatants from the monocyte-derived microglia showed that the monocyte-derived microglia resembled Alzheimer's disease–like neuroinflammation in human brain microglia after incubation with amyloid-β42. Maresin 1 restored homeostasis by down-regulating inflammatory pathway related gene expression induced by amyloid-β42 in monocyte-derived microglia, protection of maresin 1 against the effects of amyloid-β42 is mediated by a re-balancing of inflammatory transcriptional networks in which modulation of gene transcription in the nuclear factor-kappa B pathway plays a major part. We pinpointed molecular targets that are associated with both neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's disease and therapeutic targets by maresin 1. In conclusion, monocyte-derived microglia represent a relevant in vitro microglial model for studies on Alzheimer's disease-like inflammation and drug response for individual patients. Maresin 1 ameliorates amyloid-β42–induced changes in several genes of importance in Alzheimer's disease, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease.

The tensile strain in inorganic perovskite films induced by thermal annealing is one of the primary factors contributing to the inefficiency and instability of inorganic perovskite solar cells （IPSCs）,which reduces the defect formation ***,a flexible molecule 5-maleimidovaleric acid （5-MVA） was introduced as a strain buffer to release the residual strain of *** anhydride and carboxyl groups in 5-MVA interact strongly with the uncoordinated Pb2+through lewis acid-base reaction,thus tightly“pull”the perovskite *** in-between soft carbon chain increased the structural flexibility of CsPbI2.85Br0.15perovskite materials,which effectively relieved the intrinsic internal strain of CsPbI2.85Br0.15,resisted the corrosion of external strain,and also reduced the formation of defects such as VIand *** addition,the introduction of 5-MVA improved crystal quality,passivated residual defects,and narrowed energy level ***,power conversion efficiency （PCE） of NiOxbased inverted IPSCs increased from 19.25% to 20.82% with the open-circuit voltage enhanced from 1.164 V to 1.230 *** release of strain also improved the stability of CsPbI2.85Br0.15perovskite films and devices.

Hard carbon （HC） has been considered as promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries （SIBs）.The optimization of hard carbon’s microstructure and solid electrolyte interface （SEI） property are demonstrated effective in enhancing the Na+storage capability,however,a one-step regulation strategy to achieve simultaneous multi-scale structures optimization is highly ***,we have systematically investigated the effects of boron doping on hard carbon’s microstructure and interface chemistry.A variety of structure characterizations show that appropriate amount of boron doping can increase the size of closed pores via rearrangement of carbon layers with improved graphitization degree,which provides more Na+storage ***-situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy/electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （FTIR/EIS） and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS） analysis demonstrate the presence of more BC3and less B–C–O structures that result in enhanced ion diffusion kinetics and the formation of inorganic rich and robust SEI,which leads to facilitated charge transfer and excellent rate *** a result,the hard carbon anode with optimized boron doping content exhibits enhanced rate and cycling *** general,this work unravels the critical role of boron doping in optimizing the pore structure,interface chemistry and diffusion kinetics of hard carbon,which enables rational design of sodium-ion battery anode with enhanced Na+storage performance.

Schwann cell transplantation is considered one of the most promising cell-based therapy to repair injured spinal cord due to its unique growth-promoting and myelin-forming properties.A the Food and Drug Administration-approved Phase I clinical trial has been conducted to evaluate the safety of transplanted human autologous Schwann cells to treat patients with spinal cord injury.A major challenge for Schwann cell transplantation is that grafted Schwann cells are confined within the lesion cavity,and they do not migrate into the host environment due to the inhibitory barrier formed by injury-induced glial scar,thus limiting axonal reentry into the host spinal *** we introduce a combinatorial strategy by suppressing the inhibitory extracel.ular environment with injection of lentivirus-mediated transfection of chondroitinase ABC gene at the rostral and caudal borders of the lesion site and simultaneously leveraging the repair capacity of transplanted Schwann cells in adult rats following a mid-thoracic contusive spinal cord *** report that when the glial scar was degraded by chondroitinase ABC at the rostral and caudal lesion borders,Schwann cells migrated for considerable distances in both rostral and caudal *** Schwann cell migration led to enhanced axonal regrowth,including the serotonergic and dopaminergic axons originating from supraspinal regions,and promoted recovery of locomotor and urinary bladder ***,the Schwann cell survival and axonal regrowth persisted up to 6 months after the injury,even when treatment was delayed for 3 months to mimic chronic spinal cord *** findings collectively show promising evidence for a combinatorial strategy with chondroitinase ABC and Schwann cells in promoting remodeling and recovery of function following spinal cord injury.

Based on the transmission line theory of the buried metallic structures, the concerned harmful effects to the buried oil and natural gas pipelines caused by the power line short-circuit fault are further discussed. A closed-form expression of the induced voltage caused by the short-circuit fault of the ultra-high voltage power （uHVAC） transmission line is given. The transmission line model of the buried pipeline is set up and a set of formulas for cal.ulating induced voltage on the pipeline and the parameters of the buried pipeline in actual environment condition are given. At last, the characteristic of the harm^hl effects on the buried pipeline from the power line short-circuit fault are discussed.

为明确呋虫胺和唑虫酰胺微乳剂在茶叶种植、烘干、浸泡过程中的残留特征,在山东、浙江等10地开展规范农药登记残留田间试验,并进行加工因子校正膳食风险评估模型比较研究。样品经体积分数5%甲酸-乙腈提取、盐析分层、分散固相萃取净化后,经超高效液相色谱-串联质谱法检测,外标法定量。结果表明:在0.005~0.500μg/ml范围内,呋虫胺及其代谢物、唑虫酰胺质量浓度与其响应峰面积呈良好线性关系(R^(2)>0.99),在0.05、1.00、20.00、50.00 mg/kg(茶鲜叶、茶干叶),0.05、0.10、5.00 mg/kg(茶汤)添加水平下,呋虫胺及其代谢物1-甲基-3-[(3-四氢呋喃)甲基]脲、1-甲基-3-[(3-四氢呋喃)甲基]二氢胍盐的平均加标回收率为74%~103%,相对标准偏差为1%~9%;唑虫酰胺的平均加标回收率为75%~95%,相对标准偏差为1%~6%,方法定量限均为0.05 mg/kg;20%呋虫胺·唑虫酰胺微乳剂按推荐剂量施药后,呋虫胺(含代谢物)在茶鲜叶中的规范残留试验中值(supervised trials median residue,STMR)经烘干因子校正后与茶干叶中STMR相应的国家估算每日摄入量(national estimated daily intake,NEDI)均为4.08 mg,占每日允许摄入量(allowable daily intake,ADI)的32.4%;唑虫酰胺在茶鲜叶中的STMR经烘干因子校正后的NEDI为0.17581 mg,占ADI的46.5%,茶干叶中STMR对应的NEDI为0.18925 mg,占ADI的50.1%,呋虫胺和唑虫酰胺在不同评估模型下获得的长期膳食暴露风险均低于100%;呋虫胺(含代谢物)经加工因子校正后的国际短期膳食摄入量(international estimation of short-term dietary intake,IESTI)与校正前处于同一风险水平,低于急性参考剂量(acute reference dose,ARfD)(1 mg/kg);唑虫酰胺的IESTI为3.46×10^(-4) mg/kg(采收间隔7 d),低于ARf D(0.01 mg/kg),本研究方法在茶汤中未检测到唑虫酰胺残留,故未得到浸泡因子及相应的IESTI。综上,按推荐剂量在茶树上使用20%呋虫胺·唑虫酰胺微乳剂是安全的,最终残留量对应的长期及急性膳食摄入风险均在可接受范围,利用加工因子校正评估模型更切合实际风险水平。

Metal-ion hybrid capacitors,such as potassium-ion hybrid capacitors(PIHCs),are regarded as promising fast-charging energy storage ***,the kinetics mismatch between the battery anode and the capacitive cathode restricts their fastcharging *** constructing carbon anodes with enhanced kinetics is an innovative approach to address this ***,using epigallocatechin gallate with high oxygen content as the precursor,oxygen-enriched carbon materials(OEC)with tunable C=O content are successfully ***,the C=O content of OEC is regulated by adjusting the pyrolysis *** as an anode for PIHCs,OEC-600 with the highest C=O content exhibits an attractive fast-charging specific capacity of 135.2 mAh·g^(-1)at 20 A·g^(-1),along with a superior fast-charging cycling *** theoretical cal.ulations,comprehensive kinetics analysis and in-situ Raman,the positive effects of C=O on the potassium storage capability and reversibility of OEC-600 are ***,PIHCs assembled based on an OEC-600 anode deliver impressive energy/power density of 145.1 Wh·kg^(-1)/45.9 kW·kg^(-1)and superior fast-charging cycling stability with 87.5%of capacity retention over 20,000 cycles at 5 A·g^(-1).This work is anticipated to provide an optional design concept toward the carbon anode for fast-charging PIHCs.
