According to the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017,there are 132 million patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD)in China,^([1])and the prevalence of hypertension in Chinese patients with CKD(67.3%)is significantly higher than that in the general population(23.2%).^([2,3])CKD is both a cause and a consequence of hypertension,and these two conditions form a vicious cycle that leads to the high prevalence rate of hypertension in patients with CKD.Uncontrolled hypertension accelerates the deterioration of renal function,which significantly increases the risk of developing end-stage renal disease(ESRD),as well as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases,leading to poor patient outcomes.

The application of commercial carbon fiber cloth(CFC) in energy storage equipment is limited by its low specific capacitance and energy density. By a simple one-step activation treatment, the specific surface area of CFCs with porous structure can be increased considerably from 3.9 up to 875 m^2/g and the electrochemical properties of CFCs can be improved by three orders of magnitude(1324 mF/cm^2). Moreover,the hydrophobicity of CFCs can be transformed into superhydrophilicity. However, the electrochemical performance of CFCs does not show a positive correlation with specific surface area but have a strong relationship with the hierarchical pore distribution forged by the annealing treatment. Only moderate micropore and mesoporous ratio enables optimizing the electrochemical performance of CFCs.

A piecewise potential was constructed with combination of the concentration-dependent EAM(CD-EAM)potential and Ziegler-Biersack-Littmark(ZBL)potential,and the displacement cascades in random Fe-Cr binary alloys with a wide range of Cr concentration from 0 to 20%were simulated to evaluate the effect of Cr concentration on defect formation and evolution during the cascades.The Cr concentration has little or no effect on the fraction of vacancy clusters,the number of surviving Frenkel pairs,or the self-interstitial and vacancy cluster sizes and a slight effect on the peak time and peak defect number,but a considerable effect on the Cr enrichment in the peak and surviving defects in the cascaded Fe-Cr alloys.With the increase in Cr concentration,the Cr enrichment in the peak and surviving defects exhibits a downtrend.The higher enrichment degree in the surviving defects than in the peak defects shows more difficult recombination of Cr SIAs with vacancies.

Ni–Ga alloy(Ni/Ga atomic ratio of 8),Ni3Ga and Ni5Ga3 intermetallic compounds(IMCs)catalysts were prepared from Ni–Mg-Al-Ga layered double hydroxides(LDHs)for the deoxygenation of methyl esters to hydrocarbons.In the alloy and IMCs,the presence of Ga reduced the surface Ni atom density,and the charge transfer from Ga to Ni increased the electron density of Ni.In the deoxygenation of methyl laurate,the Ni catalyst gave a complete hydrogenolysis of methyl laurate to CH4at 330°C and 3.0 MPa,while the presence of Ga promoted the HDO pathway and suppressed C–C bond hydrogenolysis and methanation.The Ni5Ga3 catalyst exhibited the best desired performance.Even at 400°C,it gave the yield of C11 and C12 hydrocarbons of ~99%,and the selectivity to CH4(SCH4) was only 2.4%.In the deoxygenation of methyl octanoate and methyl palmitate,the Ni5Ga3 catalyst also gave the yield of hydrocarbons above95%.Reactivity evaluation and methyl propionate-TPD and TPSR results indicate that the C–OCH3 bond instead of the O–CH3 one was cleaved on both Ni and bimetallic Ni–Ga catalysts.It is highlighted that methanol,derived from the C–OCH3 bond hydrogenolysis,mainly decomposed to CO and H2 on IMCs,while it was converted to methane on metallic Ni and alloy.It is of great significance that H2 could be yielded from the methyl ester itself.In short,the utilization of Ni–Ga IMCs can effectively reduce carbon loss and H2 consumption,all of which are ascribed to the geometric and electronic effects of Ga.

Hydrolysis of TiCl_(4)solution is capable of preparing microscale TiO_(2)particles.This research studied the synthesis of microscale spherical TiO_(2)powders and the hydrolysis kinetics.The effects of the flow field generated by different agitators and baffles in the crystallizer,the initial free acid concentration,the initial equivalent TiO_(2)concentration,and the temperature on the hydrolysis progress and powder morphology were systematically studied.The results show that the flow field in a crystallizer can significantly affect the morphology and particle size of the powders,and the axial flow can improve the sphericity of the powders.The increased free HCl and equivalent TiO_(2)concentrations in the pregnant solution inhibit the forward hydrolysis reaction,prolong the time to reach equilibrium,and reduce the yield.An appropriate temperature matching the compositions of the pregnant solution is crucial for the powder morphology and size.Powders with sizes ranging from around 5 um-40μm can be tuned under controlled flow field,solution compositions,and temperature conditions.In addition,the Cheng and Wunderlich modified Avrami equation was used for the crystallization kinetic modeling.The effects of the free HCl concentration,equivalent TiO_(2)concentration,and hydrolysis temperature are reflected in the reaction rate constant and active nuclei reduction index.Increasing the free HCl and equivalent TiO_(2)concentrations will reduce the reaction rate constant and accelerate the deactivation of the active nuclei,thus increasing the final powder size,while increasing the temperature will lead to the opposite results.

Prediction of the local and total thermal insulations of a bedding system based on the 3D virtual simulation technology

The thermal insulation of a bedding system is one of the most critical factors affecting sleeping thermal comfort.This study reported a mathematical model to evaluate both local and total thermal insulations of a bedding system.To determine the geometric parameters in the model,the geometric model of the bedding system was developed using a 3D virtual simulation program.Its reliability was validated by comparing it with the 3D scanning model.The predicted local and total thermal insulations of bedding systems were compared with those measured by the thermal manikin obtained in a previous study.The bedding systems included six down quilts with different filling weights and involved three body postures.The results showed that the predicted thermal insulation values agreed well with the experimental values.The predicted local and total thermal insulations were with acceptable accuracy,whose errors were within 20%and 10%,respectively.Finally,the research discussed the effects of two main parameters(i.e.,the proportions and partial thermal resistances of heat transfer parts)on bedding thermal insulations and provided practical suggestions for regulating bedding thermal insulation.This study has important implications for evaluating the thermal comfort of the bedding system and contributes to improving the sleeping environment.

MicroRNAs （miRNAs） are a series of conserved, short, non-coding RNAs that modulate gene expression in a posttranscriptional manner, miRNAs are involved in almost every physiological and pathological process. Type 1 diabetes （TID） is an autoimmune disease that is the result of selective destruction of pancreatic p-cells driven by the immune system, miRNAs are also important participants in TID pathogenesis. Herein, we review the most recent data on the potential involvement of miRNAs in TID. Specifically, we focus on two aspects： the roles of miRNAs in maintaining immune homeostasis and regulating β-cell survival and/or functions in TID. We also discuss circulating miRNAs as potent biomarkers for the diagnosis and prediction of TID and investigate potential therapeutic approaches for this disease.

Nanoparticles are considered to be a powerful approach for the delivery of poorly watersoluble drugs. One of the main challenges is developing an appropriate method for preparation of drug nanoparticles. As a simple, rapid and scalable method, the flash nanoprecipitation(FNP) has been widely used to fabricate these drug nanoparticles, including pure drug nanocrystals, polymeric micelles,polymeric nanoparticles, solid lipid nanoparticles, and polyelectrolyte complexes. This review introduces the application of FNP to produce poorly water-soluble drug nanoparticles by controllable mixing devices, such as confined impinging jets mixer(CIJM), multi-inlet vortex mixer(MIVM) and many other microfluidic mixer systems. The formation mechanisms and processes of drug nanoparticles by FNP are described in detail. Then, the controlling of supersaturation level and mixing rate during the FNP process to tailor the ultrafine drug nanoparticles as well as the influence of drugs, solvent, anti-solvent, stabilizers and temperature on the fabrication are discussed. The ultrafine and uniform nanoparticles of poorly watersoluble drug nanoparticles prepared by CIJM, MIVM and microfluidic mixer systems are reviewed briefly. We believe that the application of microfluidic mixing devices in laboratory with continuous process control and good reproducibility will be benefit for industrial formulation scale-up.
