Adsorption dynamics of ethane from air in structured fixed beds with different microfibrous composites

Adsorption dynamics of ethane in two granular fixed beds and structured fixed beds with microfibrous composites was studied.5A zeolite membrane 5A/PSSF(paper-like sintered stainless steel fiber)and microfibrous entrapped activated carbon(MEAC)composites were prepared by wet layup papermaking/sintering technique and in-situ hydrothermal method.Microfibrous composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy and N2 adsorption/desorption.Structured fixed beds were designed by filling granular adsorbents(5A zeolite or activated carbon)and microfibrous composites at the inlet and outlet of the beds,respectively.Effects of flow rate,bed height and structure on the breakthrough curves were investigated.The length of unused bed(LUB)was determined,and Yoon–Nelson model was used to fit the breakthrough curves.The experimental results showed ethane was effectively adsorbed on the granular adsorbents and microfibrous composites.Both composites could decrease the LUB values and enhance bed utilization.All breakthrough curves fitted well to Yoon–Nelson model,with correlation coefficient exceeding 0.89.The adsorption rate of ethane could be improved in the structured fixed beds,which showed an enhanced mass transfer efficiency for ethane adsorption.LUB values of structured fixed beds with 5A/PSSF composites were larger,the bed utilization values were lower,and the adsorption rate constants were higher than those with MEAC composites under the same conditions.

Tactics to optimize conversion-type metal fluoride/sulfide/oxide cathodes toward advanced lithium metal batteries

Considering limited energy density of current lithium metal batteries(LMBs)due to low capacity of traditional intercalation-type cathodes,alternative high-energy cathodes are eagerly demanded.In this regard,conversion-type metal fluoride/sulfide/oxide cathodes have emerged great attention owing to their high theoretical specific capacities,supplying outstanding energy density for advanced LMBs.However,their low ionic/electrical conductivities,huge volume changes,sluggish reaction kinetics,and severe side reactions result in quick capacity fading and poor rate capability of LMBs.Recent research efforts on the conversiontype cathodes have brought new insights,as well as effective approaches toward realizing their excellent electrochemical performances.Here,the recent discoveries,challenges,and optimizing strategies including morphology regulation,phase structure engineering,surface coating,heterostructure construction,binder functionalization,and electrolyte design,are reviewed in detail.Finally,perspectives on the conversion-type metal fluoride/sulfide/oxide cathodes in LMBs are provided.It is believed that the conversion-type cathodes hold a promising future for the next-generation LMBs with high energy density.

From oral structure to molecular evidence:new insights into the evolutionary phylogeny of the ciliate order Sessilida(Protista,Ciliophora),with the establishment of two new families and new contributions to the poorly studied family Vaginicolidae

Ciliated protists represent one of the most primitive and diverse lineages of eukaryotes,with nuclear dimorphism,a distinctive sexual process(conjugation),and extensive genome rearrangements.Among divergent ciliate lineages,the peritrich order Sessilida includes members with a colonial lifestyle,which may hint to an independent evolutionary attempt for multicellularity,although they are still single-celled organisms.To date,the evolution and phylogeny of this group are still far from clear,in part due to the paucity of molecular and/or morphological data for many taxa.In this study,we extend taxon sampling of a loricate group of sessilids by obtaining 69 new r DNA(SSU r DNA,ITS1-5.8S rDNA-ITS2,and LSU r DNA)sequences from 20 wellcharacterized representative species and analyze the phylogenetic relationships within Sessilida.The main findings are:(i)the genera Rhabdostyla and Campanella each represents a unique taxon at family level,supporting the establishment of two new families,i.e.,Rhabdostylidae n.***.and Campanellidae n.fam.,respectively,the former being sister to a morphologically heterogeneous clade comprising Astylozoidae and several incertae sedis species and the latter occupying the basal position within the Sessilida clade;(ii)the structure of infundibular polykinety 3 is likely to be a phylogenetically informative character for resolving evolutionary relationships among sessilids;(iii)differences between sparsely and the densely arranged silverline systems could be a suprageneric taxonomic character;(iv)the monophyly of Vaginicolidae is confirmed,which is consistent with its specialized morphology,i.e.,the possession of a typical peritrich lorica which might be an apomorphy for this group;(v)within Vaginicolidae,the monotypic Cothurniopsis sensu Stokes,1893 is a synonym of Cothurnia Ehrenberg,1831,and a new combination is created,i.e.,Cothurnia valvata nov.comb.;(vi)Vaginicola sensu lato comprises at least two distinctly divergent clades,one affiliated with Thuricola and the other with a systematicall

Long-term follow-up of a patient with venlafaxine-induced diurnal bruxism treated with an occlusal splint:A case report

BACKGROUND Bruxism is a jaw-muscle activity characterized by the clenching or grinding of teeth. It can be divided into nocturnal bruxism and diurnal bruxism(DB). DB secondary to antidepressants is rare and refractory. Reports associated with antidepressant-induced DB are mostly anecdotal without long-term follow-up.The effect of drug intervention on antidepressant-induced DB is still contested.We herein report the first case of successful treatment of venlafaxine-induced DB with an occlusal splint.CASE SUMMARY This case report describes detailed 7-year follow-up of a patient with venlafaxineinduced DB treated with an occlusal splint. The patient who complained about involuntary daytime tooth grinding after taking venlafaxine for a period of 4 mo and was diagnosed with venlafaxine-induced DB. Subsequently, an occlusal splint with modified bilateral buccal-pterygoid pads was used to treat his tooth grinding and to protect the dental structures from tooth wearing. The patient reported remission of symptoms after several months of treatment. His grinding activity was gradually and stably controlled after 2 years, with an almost complete recovery from DB after 6 years.CONCLUSION The maxillary buccal-pterygoid splint can be used as a noninvasive approach to treat venlafaxine-induced DB.

Exogenous RNA poses a continuous threat to genome stability and integrity across various organisms.Accumulating evidence reveals complex mechanisms underlying the cellular response to exogenous RNA,including endo-lysosomal degradation,RNA-dependent repression and innate immune clearance.Across a variety of mechanisms,the natural anti-sense RNAdependent defensive strategy has been utilized both as a powerful gene manipulation tool and gene therapy strategy named RNA-interference(RNAi).To optimize the efficiency of RNAi silencing,a comprehensive understanding of the whole life cycle of exogenous RNA,from cellular entry to its decay,is vital.In this paper,we review recent progress in comprehending the recognition and elimination of foreign RNA by cells,focusing on cellular entrance,intracellular transportation,and immune-inflammatory responses.By leveraging these insights,we highlight the potential implications of these insights for advancing RNA interference efficiency,underscore the need for future studies to elucidate the pathways and fates of various exogenous RNA forms,and provide foundational information for more efficient RNA delivery methods in both genetic manipulation and therapy in different organisms.

Hydrolysis of TiCl_(4)solution is capable of preparing microscale TiO_(2)particles.This research studied the synthesis of microscale spherical TiO_(2)powders and the hydrolysis kinetics.The effects of the flow field generated by different agitators and baffles in the crystallizer,the initial free acid concentration,the initial equivalent TiO_(2)concentration,and the temperature on the hydrolysis progress and powder morphology were systematically studied.The results show that the flow field in a crystallizer can significantly affect the morphology and particle size of the powders,and the axial flow can improve the sphericity of the powders.The increased free HCl and equivalent TiO_(2)concentrations in the pregnant solution inhibit the forward hydrolysis reaction,prolong the time to reach equilibrium,and reduce the yield.An appropriate temperature matching the compositions of the pregnant solution is crucial for the powder morphology and size.Powders with sizes ranging from around 5 um-40μm can be tuned under controlled flow field,solution compositions,and temperature conditions.In addition,the Cheng and Wunderlich modified Avrami equation was used for the crystallization kinetic modeling.The effects of the free HCl concentration,equivalent TiO_(2)concentration,and hydrolysis temperature are reflected in the reaction rate constant and active nuclei reduction index.Increasing the free HCl and equivalent TiO_(2)concentrations will reduce the reaction rate constant and accelerate the deactivation of the active nuclei,thus increasing the final powder size,while increasing the temperature will lead to the opposite results.

DBST:a lightweight block cipher based on dynamic S-box

IoT devices have been widely used with the advent of 5G.These devices contain a large amount of private data during transmission.It is primely important for ensuring their security.Therefore,we proposed a lightweight block cipher based on dynamic S-box named DBST.It is introduced for devices with limited hardware resources and high throughput requirements.DBST is a 128-bit block cipher supporting 64-bit key,which is based on a new generalized Feistel variant structure.It retains the consistency and significantly boosts the diffusion of the traditional Feistel structure.The SubColumns of round function is implemented by combining bit-slice technology with subkeys.The S-box is dynamically associated with the key.It has been demonstrated that DBST has a good avalanche effect,low hardware area,and high throughput.Our S-box has been proven to have fewer differential features than RECTANGLE S-box.The security analysis of DBST reveals that it can against impossible differential attack,differential attack,linear attack,and other types of attacks.

Self-Supporting Nanoporous Copper Film with High Porosity and Broadband Light Absorption for Efficient Solar Steam Generation

Solar steam generation(SSG)is a potential technology for freshwater production,which is expected to address the global water shortage problem.Some noble metals with good photothermal conversion performance have received wide concerns in SSG,while high cost limits their practical applications for water purification.Herein,a self-supporting nanoporous copper(NP-Cu)film was fabricated by one-step dealloying of a specially designed Al_(98)Cu_(2)precursor with a dilute solid solution structure.In-situ and ex-situ characterizations were performed to reveal the phase and microstructure evolutions during dealloying.The NP-Cu film shows a unique three-dimensional bicontinuous ligament-channel structure with high porosity(94.8%),multi scale-channels and nanoscale ligaments(24.2±4.4nm),leading to its strong broadband absorption over the 200–2500 nm wavelength More importantly,the NP-Cu film exhibits excellent SSG performance with high evaporation rate,superior efficiency and good stability.The strong desalination ability of NP-Cu also manifests its potential applications in seawater desalination.The related mechanism has been rationalized based upon the nanoporous network,localized surface plasmon resonance effect and hydrophilicity.

In this paper,we consider the following perturbed fractional Hamiltonian systems{tD_(∞)^(α)(_(-∞)D_(t)^(α)u(t))+L(t)u(t)=■_(u)W(t,u(t))+■(u)G(t,u(t)),t∈R,u∈H^(α)(R,R^(N)),whereα∈(1/2,1],L∈C(R,R^(N×N))is symmetric and not necessarily required to be positive definite,W∈C1(R×R^(N,R))is locally subquadratic and locally even near the origin,and perturbed term G∈C1(R×R^(N,R))maybe has no parity in u.Utilizing the perturbed method improved by the authors,a sequence of nontrivial homo clinic solutions is obtained,which generalizes previous results.

Preparation and characterization of novel carbon molecular sieve membrane/PSSF composite by pyrolysis method for toluene adsorption

Carbon molecular sieve membrane(CMSM)/paper-like stainless steel fibers(PSSF)has been manufactured by pyrolyzing poly(fiirfuryl alcohol)(PFA)coated on the metal fibers.PFA was synthesized using oxalic acid dihydrate as a catalyst and coated on microfibers by dip coating method.For the purpose of investigating the effects of final carbonization temperature,the composites were carbonized between 400℃ and 800℃ under flowing nitrogen.The morphology and microstructure were examined by X-ray diffraction,Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,thermogravimetric analysis,N2 adsorption and desorption,Raman spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectra.The consequences of characterization showed that the CMSM containing mesopores o f 3.9 nm were manufactured.The specific surface area of the CMSM/PSSF fabricated in different pyrolysis temperature varies from 26.5 to 169.1 m^2·g^-1 and pore volume varies from 0.06 to 0.23 cm^3·g^-1.When pyrolysis temperature exceeds 600℃,the specific surface,pore diameter and pore volume decreased as carbonization temperature increased.Besides,the degree of graphitization in carbon matrix increased with rising pyrolysis temperature.Toluene adsorption experiments on different structured fixed bed that was padded by CMSM/PSSF and granular activated carbon(GAC)were conducted.For the sake of comparison,adsorption test was also performed on fixed bed packed with GAC.The experimental results indicated that the rate constant κ′ was dramatically increased as the proportion of CMCM/PSSF composites increased on the basis of Yoon-Nelson model,which suggested that structured fixed bed padded with CMSM/PSSF composite offered higher adsorption rate and mass transfer efficiency.
