Endothelial DLC1 is dispensable for liver and kidney function in mice

DLC1 is a focal adhesion molecule that regulates cell polarity,proliferation,migration,and survival.DLC1 functions as a tumor suppressor and its expression is often down-regulated in.various malignant neoplasms of epithelial origin.Recent studies have suggested that lack of DLC1 in endothelial cells may contribute to the development of angiosarcoma,and that DLC1 mutations have been identified in patients with nephrotic syndrome,a disease mainly due to leaky glomerular filtration barriers.To demonstrate whether lack of endothelial DLC1 induces angiosarcoma and/or damages glomerular capillaries leading to nephrotic syndrome,we have extended our analyses on endothelial cell-specific DLC1 knockout mice with focuses on their liver and kidney function.Mice were monitored up to 24 months of age.However,no histological or clinical difference was found between DLC1 knockout and wild type mice,indicating that lack of endothelial DLC1 alone does not compromise kidney and liver function in mice.

A trigonometric series expansion method and two similar modified methods for the Orr-Sommerfeld equation are presented. These methods use the trigonometric series expansion with an auxiliary function added to the highest order derivative of the unknown function and generate the lower order derivatives through successive integra- tions. The proposed methods are easy to implement because of the simplicity of the chosen basis functions. By solving the plane Poiseuille flow (PPF), plane Couette flow (PCF), and Blasius boundary layer flow with several homogeneous boundary conditions, it is shown that these methods yield results with the same accuracy as that given by the conventional Chebyshev collocation method but with better robustness, and that ob- tained by the finite difference method but with fewer modal number.

This paper reports a comparative study of microcapsules with enhanced thermal stability and electrical conductivity inspired by the bionic thermal insulation of birds’feathers for self-healing aged asphalt.The work is based on an in situ polymerization with composite shell components of graphene and hexamethoxymethylmelamine resin.By using graphene,microcapsules with rough surfaces are achieved,improving the interface between microcapsules and asphalt.In addition,the microcapsules’initial thermal decomposition temperature is appropriately high,so that the stability of the microcapsule in the asphalt highway system is protected.The proportion of graphene in the microcapsule shell can regulate the microcapsule’s heat resistance because graphene modifies the shell’s structural makeup.Additionally,the microcapsules’electrical conductivity is relatively high.The self-healing capability of bitumen sharply increases,providing benefit to the effect of microcapsules on the properties of aged asphalt.

The Climate Response to Global Forest Area Changes under Different Warming Scenarios in China

Human activities have notably affected the Earth’s climate through greenhouse gases(GHG), aerosol, and land use/land cover change(LULCC). To investigate the impact of forest changes on regional climate under different shared socioeconomic pathways(SSPs), changes in surface air temperature and precipitation over China under low and medium/high radiative forcing scenarios from 2021 to 2099 are analyzed using multimodel climate simulations from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6). Results show that the climate responses to forest changes are more significant under the low radiative forcing scenario. Deforestation would increase the mean, interannual variability, and the trend of surface air temperature under the low radiative forcing scenario, but it would decrease those indices under the medium/high radiative forcing scenario. The changes in temperature show significant spatial heterogeneity. For precipitation, under the low radiative forcing scenario, deforestation would lead to a significant increase in northern China and a significant decrease in southern China, and the effects are persistent in the near term(2021–40), middle term(2041–70), and long term(2071–99). In contrast, under the medium/high radiative forcing scenario, precipitation increases in the near term and long term over most parts of China, but it decreases in the middle term, especially in southern, northern,and northeast China. The magnitude of precipitation response to deforestation remains comparatively small.

In order to study the boundedness of some operators in general function spaces which include Lorentz spaces and Orlicz spaces as special examples,Lorentz introduced a new space called rearrangement invariant Banach function spaces,denoted by RIBFS.It is shown in this paper that variation operators of singular integrals and their commutators are bounded on RIBFS whenever the kernels satisfy the L~r-H?rmander conditions.Moreover,we obtain some quantitative weighted bounds in the quasi-Banach spaces and modular inequalities for above variation operators and their commutators.

What defines cancer?Numerous factors have been found to be associated with cancer onset and development.Rudolf Virchow suggested some 150 years ago that cancer was causally linked to persistent irritation.Later studies have revealed that overexposure to radiation,persistent microbial infection,genetic mutations,and chronic(sterile)inflammation could all potentially lead to cancer,and the same has been observed about intermittent hypoxia,iron overload,and intake of certain “carcinogens”.In parallel,considerable information has been collected regarding animals that never or rarely develop cancer,such as blind mole rats and whales.Yet no general frameworks have been published that can functionally link potential drivers to the formation and progression of cancer in a predictable manner,which is consistent with the aforementioned and other epidemiological data.Here,we outline one such framework.

In this work, an online calibration mechanism is proposed for the combustion phase in a diesel engine. In particular, a simplified event-based engine model, of which the output predicts the optimum combustion phase, is used to aid the calibration, and the model is updated online along with the engine operation to keep the integrity high so as to improve the quality of optimum combustion phase prediction.
