A preliminary multicultural nursing competence instrument for assessing undergraduate student nurses

Purpose:To develop a multicultural nursing competence instrument for use in assessing undergraduate student nurses(SNs).Methods:This study enrolled 322 student nurses(SNs)employed at five hospitals in Hunan *** nurses were identified by the cluster sampling *** items on the competence instrument were retained or deleted after analyzing their coefficient of variation,coefficient of correlation with the total score,t-test *** tests and correlation analysis were used to examine internal consistency,while exploratory factor analysis was used to determine construct ***:After analyzing items,the final multicultural nursing competence instrument comprised a total of 49 items that evaluated five *** instrument showed good overall reliability(0.958),and the internal consistency of the five dimensions ranged from 0.884 to ***,the correlations among the five dimensions were statistically significant(P<0.01).An exploratory factor analysis of the five dimensions showed that five items incorporated aspects of cultural cognition(factor loading range,0.824-0.888),five items incorporated aspects of cultural attitude(factor loading range,0.629-0.815),twentytwo items involved cultural knowledge(factor loading range,0.587-0.792),seven items incorporated aspects of cultural skills(factor loading range,0.743-0.860),and 10 items involved cultural encounters(factor loading range,0.522-0.909).Conclusion:The multicultural nursing competence instrument for SNs demonstrated good reliability and validity,and can be utilized in nursing education programs and research.

Marine umbilical is one of the key equipment for subsea oil and gas exploitation,which is usually integrated by a great number of different functional components with *** layout of these components directly affects manufacturing,operation and storage performances of the *** the multi-layer cross-sectional layout design of the umbilical,a quantifiable multi-objective optimization model is established according to the operation and storage *** the manufacturing factors,the multi-layering strategy based on contact point identification is introduced for a great number of functional ***,the GA-GLM global optimization algorithm is proposed combining the genetic algorithm and the generalized multiplier method,and the selection operator of the genetic algorithm is improved based on the steepest descent *** algorithm is used to find the optimal solution in the global space,which can converge from any initial layout to the feasible layout *** feasible layout solution is taken as the initial value of the generalized multiplier method for fast and accurate ***,taking umbilicals with a great number of components as examples,the results show that the cross-sectional performance of the umbilical obtained by optimization algorithm is better and the solution efficiency is ***,the multi-layering strategy is effective and *** design method proposed in this paper can quickly obtain the optimal multi-layer cross-sectional layout,which replaces the manual design,and provides useful reference and guidance for the umbilical industry.

High-performance grinding of ceramic matrix composites

Ceramic matrix composites(CMCs)are highly promising materials for the next generation of ***,machining of CMCs suffers from low efﬁciency and poor surfaceﬁnish,which presents an obstacle to their wider *** overcome these problems,this study investigates high-efﬁciency deep grinding of CMCs,focusing on the effects of grinding *** results show that both the sur-face roughness and the depth of subsurface damage(SSD)are insensitive to grinding *** material removal rate can be increased sixfold by increasing the grinding depth,while the surface roughness and SSD depth increase by only about 10%.Moreover,it is found that the behavior of material removal is strongly dependent on grinding *** the grinding depth is increased,ﬁbers are removed in smaller sizes,with theﬁber length in chips being reduced by about 34%.However,too large a grinding depth will result in blockage by chip powder,which leads to a dramatic increase in the ratio of tangential to normal grinding *** study demonstrates that increasing the depth of cut is an effective approach to improve the machining efﬁciency of CMCs,while maintaining a good surfaceﬁ*** provides the basis for the further development of high-performance grinding methods for CMCs,which should facilitate their wider application.

Effects of Tai Chi on telomerase activity and gerotranscendence in middle aged and elderly adults in Chinese society

Introduction:Telomeres are DNA protein structures at the end of chromosomes and are linked to the physical aging *** improvement of quality of life is closely associated with aerobic exercise,and thedynamic effects of exerciseonphysiology and psychology are evident with *** Chi is popularly practiced in ***,findings on the effects of Tai Chi on telomerase activity(TA)in peripheral blood mononuclear cells,and gerotranscendence(GT),as well as the association of TA and GT with Tai Chi,have been ***:This study aims to assess TA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells,GT,and the associations between *** associations among these variables are determined during six months of Tai Chi intervention among Chinese middle aged and elderly ***:TA assessment was obtained by TE-ELISA(human telomeraseeenzyme linked immunosorbent assay),and GT was measured at the baseline level after six months of Tai Chi ***:TA increased significantly in the Tai Chi group from 23.75±3.78 u/mmol(preintervention)to 26.31±2.93 u/mmol(after 6 months)(p<0.05).Compared with the TA in the control group,the TA in the intervention group was statistically significant after six months(p<0.05).Compared with the GT in the control group,the GT in the intervention group improved significantly after six months(p<0.05).TA and GT had a positive correlation(r=0.325,p<0.01).Conclusion:Our data illustrated that Tai Chi had a protective effect on TA and might improve the GT in Chinese middle aged and elderly *** TA increased with the increasing GT in Chinese middle aged and elderly adults.

Low-Rank Optimal Transport for Robust Domain Adaptation

When encountering the distribution shift between the source(training) and target(test) domains, domain adaptation attempts to adjust the classifiers to be capable of dealing with different domains. Previous domain adaptation research has achieved a lot of success both in theory and practice under the assumption that all the examples in the source domain are welllabeled and of high quality. However, the methods consistently lose robustness in noisy settings where data from the source domain have corrupted labels or features which is common in reality. Therefore, robust domain adaptation has been introduced to deal with such problems. In this paper, we attempt to solve two interrelated problems with robust domain adaptation:distribution shift across domains and sample noises of the source domain. To disentangle these challenges, an optimal transport approach with low-rank constraints is applied to guide the domain adaptation model training process to avoid noisy information influence. For the domain shift problem, the optimal transport mechanism can learn the joint data representations between the source and target domains using a measurement of discrepancy and preserve the discriminative information. The rank constraint on the transport matrix can help recover the corrupted subspace structures and eliminate the noise to some extent when dealing with corrupted source data. The solution to this relaxed and regularized optimal transport framework is a convex optimization problem that can be solved using the Augmented Lagrange Multiplier method, whose convergence can be mathematically proved. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated through extensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets.

Numerical Simulation of Droplet Generation in Coaxial Microchannels

In this study,numerical simulations of the pinching-off phenomena displayed by the dispersed phase in a continuous phase have been conducted using COMSOL Multiphysics(level-set method).Four flow patterns,namely“drop flow”,“jet flow”,“squeeze flow”,and“co-flow”,have been obtained for different flow velocity ratios,channel diameter ratios,density ratios,viscosity ratios,and surface *** flow pattern map of two-phase flow in coaxial microchannels has been obtained accordingly,and the associated droplet generation process has been critically discussed considering the related frequency,diameter,and pinch-off *** particular,it is shown that the larger the flow velocity ratio,the smaller the diameter of generated droplets and the shorter the pinch-off *** pinch-off length of a droplet is influenced by the channel diameter ratio and density *** changes in viscosity ratio have a negligible influence on the droplet generation pinching *** an increase in surface tension,the frequency of generation and pinch-off length of droplets decrease,but for small surface tension the generation diameter of droplet increases.

Strain Gradient Finite Element Formulation of Flexoelectricity in Ferroelectric Material Based on Phase-Field Method

Flexoelectricity is a two-way coupling effect between the strain gradient and electric field that exists in all dielectrics,regardless of point group ***,the high-order derivatives of displacements involved in the strain gradient pose challenges in solving electromechanical coupling problems incorporating the flexoelectric *** this study,we formulate a phase-field model for ferroelectric materials considering the flexoelectric effect.A four-node quadrilateral element with 20 degrees of freedom is constructed without introducing high-order shape *** microstructure evolution of domains is described by an independent order parameter,namely the spontaneous polarization governed by the time-dependent Ginzburg–Landau *** model is developed based on a thermodynamic framework,in which a set of microforces is introduced to construct the constitutive relation and evolution *** the flexoelectric part of electric enthalpy,the strain gradient is determined by interpolating the mechanical strain at the node via the values of Gaussian integration points in the isoparametric *** model is shown to be capable of reproducing the classic analytical solution of dielectric materials incorporating the flexoelectric *** model is verified by duplicating some typical phenomena in flexoelectricity in cylindrical tubes and truncated pyramids.A comparison is made between the polarization distribution in dielectrics and *** model can reproduce the solution to the boundary value problem of the cylindrical flexoelectric tube,and demonstrate domain twisting at domain walls in ferroelectrics considering the flexoelectric effect.
