ICESat/GLAS-derived changes in the water level of Hulun Lake, Inner Mongolia, from 2003 to 2009

Hulun Lake is the largest freshwater lake in northern Inner Mongolia and even minor changes in its level may have major effects on the ecology of the lake and the surrounding area. In this study, we used high-precision elevation data for the interval from 2003–2009 measured by the Geoscience Laser Altimetry System (GLAS) on board the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) to assess annual and seasonal water level variations of Hulun Lake. The altimetry data of 32 satellite tracks were processed using the RANdom SAmple Consensus algorithm (RANSAC) to eliminate elevation outliers, and subsequently the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) was used to delineate the area of the lake. From 2003–2009, the shoreline of Hulun Lake retreated westwards, which was especially notable in the southern part of the lake. There was only a small decrease in water level, from 530.72 m to 529.22 m during 2003–2009, an average rate of 0.08 m/yr. The area of the lake decreased at a rate of 49.52 km2/yr, which was mainly the result of the shallow bathymetry in the southern part of the basin. The decrease in area was initially rapid, then much slower, and finally rapid again. Generally, the lake extent and water level decreased due to higher temperatures, intense evaporation, low precipitation, and decreasing runoff. And their fluctuations were caused by a decrease in intraannual temperature, evaporation, and a slight increase in precipitation. Overall, a combination of factors related to climate change were responsible for the variations of the water level of Hulun Lake during the study interval. The results improve our understanding of the impact of climate change on Hulun Lake and may facilitate the formulation of response strategies.

As cathodes,iron-series(Fe,Co,Ni)clusters supported by carbon materials exhibit outstanding electrocatalytic reduction activities in many electrocatalytic *** date,this general characteristic of ironseries clusters that should be related to the inherent attributes of these electrodes has not been fully understood from the perspectives of thermodynamics and electronic structure *** transport is a necessary process in electrocatalysis,and therefore,the study of the change of the electronic state in electron transport is beneficial for understanding this general characteristic of iron-series cluster *** this work,the electron transport properties,including the conductivity and transport spin-polarization at the Ni-cluster/graphene interface are carefully investigated as an example of carbon-supported iron-series *** first-principles calculations within the framework of the nonequilibrium Green’s function density functional theory(NEGF-DFT),we reveal that the electronic transport states of the coupled Ni-cluster/graphene are strongly changed compared to those of their isolated Ni-cluster and graphene *** is found that graphene dominates the overall conductivity of the interface,while the morphology of Ni-clusters controls the spin polarization *** spin polarization can lead to the self-excitation effect of the electrons that raises the energy of the electronic system,improves the thermodynamics of the reduction reaction and promotes catalytic *** work hints that iron-series elements(Fe,Co,Ni)based electrodes may generally show transport polarization that is likely to give rise to a high electrocatalytic reduction activity and such transport polarizability can be used as a new factor in the further exploration and design for electrocatalytic materials.

The advancement of direct seawater electrolysis is a significant step towards sustainable hydrogen production,addressing the critical need for renewable energy sources and efficient resource ***,direct seawater electrolysis has to face several challenges posed by the corrosiveness of highly concentrated chloride and the competitive chlorine evolution reaction(ClER).To overcome these issues,we designed a novel NiP_(2)@CoP electrocatalyst on a porous titanium microfiltration(Ti MF)*** obtained bifunctional NiP_(2)@CoP catalyst outperforms the Pt/C and IrO_(2),as evidenced by its low overpotentials of 192 and 425 mV at a current density of 500 mA·cm^(-2) for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in alkaline seawater(1 M KOH+0.5 M NaCl),***,only 231 and 569 mV overpotentials are required at the current density of 1500 mA·cm^(-2) towards HER and OER in alkaline seawater,*** importantly,no ClER was observed,demonstrating its excellent selectivity to *** selection of porous Ti MF membrane as an electrode substrate further enhances the performance by providing a robust structure that promotes the fast generation and release of gas *** promising outcomes obtained with NiP_(2)@CoP catalysts on Ti MF support,therefore,pave the way for the commercial viability of direct seawater electrolysis technologies at industrial-level current densities.

Stormwater runoff pollution loads from an urban catchment with rainy climate in China

An older urban district in Wuhan, China, is transitioning from discharging sewage and stormwater directly into lakes, to directing the sewage to wastewater treatment plants （WWTPs）. Dealing with polluted storm- water discharge is a great challenge. Stormwater runoff from an urban catchment with a combined sewer system was sampled and analyzed over a three-year period. Results indicate that wet weather flows account for 66%, 31%, 17%, and 13 % of the total load of suspended solids （SS）, chemical oxygen demand （COD）, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus, respectively. The first flush of COD and SS was significant in all runoff events. More than 50% of the SS and COD loads were transported by the first 30% of runoff volume. Storage and treatment of the first 10 mm from each combined sewer overflow event could reduce more than 70% of the annual COD overflow load. An integrated solution is recommended, consisting of a tank connected to the WWTP and a detention pond, to store and treat the combined sewer overflow （CSO）. These results may be helpful in mitigating CSO pollution for many other urban areas in China and other developing countries.

The segregation of Cu and Ni in a 17-4PH stainless steel piston rod has been confirmed to be responsible for the cracking after heat *** investigation showed that the segregation zone was composed of three layers,namely the fine grain martensitic layer,the coarse grain martensitic layer and the coarse grain austenitic layer from the matrix to the crack *** button ingots with the same chemical compositions as those three layers have been prepared to evaluate the grain size distribution,microstructure and mechanical *** effects of Cu and Ni segregation on the microstructures of those three layers have been explored by thermodynamic *** on the microstructure and mechanical properties results,an intensive understanding of the cracking in the segregation zone was therefore reached.

A local-optimization refinement algorithm in single particle analysis for macromolecular complex with multiple rigid modules

Single particle analysis, which can be regarded as an average of signals from thousands or even millions of particle projections, is an efficient method to study the three-dimensional structures of biological macro- molecules. An intrinsic assumption in single particle analysis is that all the analyzed particles must have identical composition and conformation. Thus specimen heterogeneity in either composition or conformation has raised great challenges for high-resolution analysis. For particles with multiple conformations, inaccurate align- ments and orientation parameters will yield an averaged map with diminished resolution and smeared density. Besides extensive classification approaches, here based on the assumption that the macromolecular complex is made up of multiple rigid modules whose relative orien- tations and positions are in slight fluctuation around equilibriums, we propose a new method called as local optimization refinement to address this conformational heterogeneity for an improved resolution. The key idea is to optimize the orientation and shift parameters of each rigid module and then reconstruct their three-dimen- sional structures individually. Using simulated data of 80S/70S ribosomes with relative fluctuations between the large （60S/50S） and the small （40S/30S） subunits, we tested this algorithm and found that the resolutions of both subunits are significantly improved. Our method provides a proof-of-principle solution for high-resolutionsingle particle analysis of macromolecular complexes with dynamic conformations.

目的探讨在儿科急诊护士培训中,危险预知训练模式结合密室逃脱教学的实践效果。方法选取湖北省武汉市某三甲医院2023年1—12月儿科急诊护士46人作为研究对象,随机分为对照组与研究组,分别实施常规培训模式、危险预知训练模式结合密室逃脱教学模式,对比两组考核成绩、应急能力、评判性思维能力与风险识别能力。结果研究组理论和急救技能考核成绩及应急能力、评判性思维能力、护理风险识别能力均优于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论危险预知训练模式结合密室逃脱教学应用于儿科急诊护士培训中效果较好,能有效提升护士的理论和急救技能水平及综合能力,值得推广。
