Dynamic Sulfur-Rich Polymers from Elemental Sulfur and Epoxides

Sulfur-containing dynamic polymers had attracted significant attention due to their unique chemical structures with high *** sulfur, an inexpensive industrial waste product, to synthesize dynamic polysulfide polymers through reverse vulcanization has been a notable approach. However, this method required high temperatures and resulted in the release of unpleasant oders. In this study, we presented a robust method for the preparation of sulfur-rich polymers with dynamic polysulfide bonds from elemental sulfur and inexpensive epoxide monomers via a one-pot strategy at the mild room temperature. Different types of polysulfide molecules and polymers were synthesized by reacting various epoxide compounds with sulfur, along with the investigation of their structures and dynamic behaviors. It was noteworthy that the obatined polymers prepared from m-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-N,N-bis(2,3-epoxypropyl)aniline and elemental sulfur exhibit multiple dynamic behaviors, including polysulfide metathesis and polysulfide-thiol exchange, enabling their rapid stress relaxation, self-healing, reprocessing and degradable properties of the cross-linked polymer. More importantly, the hydroxyl groups at the side chains from epoxide ring opening exhibited potential transesterification. This work provided a facile strategy for designing dynamic sulfur-rich polymers via a mild synthesis route.

A review on vanadium extraction techniques from major vanadium-containing resources

The critical role of vanadium in metallurgy and the increasing commercialization of vanadium redox flow batteries have contributed to a rise in market demand for vanadium, emphasizing the need to ensure the sustainability of vanadium production. Converter vanadium slag and stone coal, generated during the smelting process of vanadium–titanium magnetite, serve as primary raw materials for vanadium extraction. This paper reviews the process mineralogy of converter vanadium slag and stone coal, encompassing the chemical and physical phase compositions of the raw materials and the state of vanadium occurrence. The aim is to establish a theoretical foundation for the mechanistic study of the vanadium extraction techniques and to provide a reference for the optimization of the process afterward. This paper systematically summarizes the current vanadium extraction technology from converter vanadium slag, covering roasting,direct leaching, sub-molten salt method, and the technology and research status of vanadium extraction from stone coal. Most importantly, it identifies key issues in the current vanadium extraction techniques and challenges faced in actual production, based on the analysis of the current vanadium extraction process and mechanism research. The forward feasibility and prospects for the development of vanadium extraction technology are outlined.

Optical time-stretch (OTS) imaging flow cytometry offers a promising solution for high-throughput and highprecision cell analysis due to its capabilities of high-speed, high-quality, and continuous imaging. Compressed sensing (CS) makes it practically applicable by significantly reducing the data volume while maintaining its highspeed and high-quality imaging properties. To enrich the information of the images acquired with CS-equipped OTS imaging flow cytometry, in this work we propose and experimentally demonstrate Fourier-domaincompressed OTS quantitative phase imaging flow cytometry. It is capable of acquiring intensity and quantitative phase images of cells simultaneously from the compressed data. To evaluate the performance of our method, static microparticles and a corn root cross section are experimentally measured under various compression ***, to show how our method can be applied in practice, we utilize it in the drug response analysis of breast cancer cells. Experimental results show that our method can acquire high-quality intensity and quantitative phase images of flowing cells at a flowing speed of 1 m/s and a compression ratio of 30%. Combined with machine-learning-based image analysis, it can distinguish drug-treated and drug-untreated cells with an accuracy of over 95%. We believe our method can facilitate cell analysis in both scientific research and clinical settings where both high-throughput and high-content cell analysis is required.

Dear Editor,Patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT)often experience a significant reduction in immune function due to factors such as severe lymphopenia,immunosuppressive treatment,and the development of graft-versus-host disease,rendering them more susceptible to severe infections(Sahin et al.,2016).Traditional diagnostic approaches are limited in sensitivity,speed,and assay targets,thus failing short of meeting the diagnostic demands(Qu et al.,2022).However,next-generation sequencing(NGS)has greatly improved the accuracy and efficiency of diagnosing various diseases(Schuler et al.,2022),and has been widely utilized for pathogen detection in samples from HSCT patients(Armstrong et al.,2019;Peng et al.,2021).In this study,we employed viral metagenomics analysis using high-throughput sequencing on fecal and tissue samples from a patient with HSCT experiencing severe lingual papillomatosis.

Without intervention,a considerable proportion of patients with metabolism‐associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)will progress from simple steatosis to metabolism‐associated steatohepatitis(MASH),liver fibrosis,and even hepatocellular ***,the molecular mechanisms that control progressive MAFLD have yet to be fully ***,we unraveled that the expression of the N6-methyladenosine(m6A)methyltransferase METTL14 is remarkably downregulated in the livers of both patients and several murine models of MAFLD,whereas hepatocyte-specific depletion of this methyltransferase aggravated lipid accumulation,liver injury,and ***,hepatic Mettl14 overexpression alleviated the above pathophysiological changes in mice fed on a high-fat diet(HFD).Notably,in vivo and in vitro mechanistic studies indicated that METTL14 downregulation decreased the level of GLS2 by affecting the translation efficiency mediated by YTHDF1 in an m6A-depedent manner,which might help to form an oxidative stress microenvironment and accordingly recruit Cx3cr1^(+)Ccr2^(+)monocyte-derived macrophages(Mo-macs).In detail,Cx3cr1^(+)Ccr2^(+)Mo-macs can be categorized into M1-like macrophages and S100A4-positive macrophages and then further activate hepatic stellate cells(HSCs)to promote liver *** experiments revealed that CX3CR1 can activate the transcription of S100A4 via CX3CR1/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway in Cx3cr1^(+)Ccr2^(+)*** of METTL14 or GLS2,or interfering with this signal transduction pathway such as inhibiting MyD88 could ameliorate liver injuries and *** together,these findings indicate potential therapies for the treatment of MAFLD progression.

An Examination of the Mere Proximity Effect of Obesity Discrimination in Children in Chinese Culture

This study investigated the mere proximity effect of obesity discrimination in children in Chinese culture. One hundred and thirty children between 9 and 14 years old were asked to indicate how much they would like or to be friends with a target character, who was either male or female and average-weight or overweight. The target character was presented with four other background characters of the same gender, whom were either average-weight or overweight. The findings demonstrated that female targets were preferred less when presented with overweight background characters than when presented with average-weight background characters. However, male targets were preferred more when presented with overweight background characters than when presented with average-weight background characters. The findings indicated an anti-fat mere proximity effect in female children but a contrary effect in male children in Chinese culture. These findings may have implications for a better understanding of weight bias from a cultural perspective.

BACKGROUND Accumulating evidence suggests that the inflammatory cytokine interleukin-6(IL-6)contributes to the pathophysiology of psychiatric ***,there was no study concerning the relationship between IL-6 concentrations and clinical features in the chronic phase of early-onset schizophrenia(EOS).AIM To investigate the relationship between serum IL-6 concentration and the clinical features of *** We measured serum IL-6 Levels from 74 patients with chronic schizophrenia,including 33 with age at onset0.05)after controlling for age,body mass index,and other *** symptom scores were higher in the EOS group than the AOS group(F=6.199,P=0.015).Serum IL-6 concentrations in the EOS group were negatively correlated with both total PANSS-negative symptom score(r=-0.389,P=0.032)and avolition/asociality subscore(r=-0.387,P=0.026).CONCLUSION Patients with EOS may have more severe negative symptoms than those with adult-onset schizophrenia during the chronic phase of the ***-6 signaling may regulate negative symptoms and its avolition/asociality subsymptoms among the early-onset chronic schizophrenic patients.
