Non-nerve cell-derived extracellular matrix(ECM)wa s coated on the aligned porous polypyrrole-poly(Llactide)(PPy-PLLA)fiber-films with the conductivity of^12 mS/m via L929 cells culture and lysing,resulting in^10%increase of PC12 cells attachment and^26μm increase of neurites *** neurite length of^149μm in EgF/NgF group(optimal concentration radio of 12.5/50(ng/mL))on aligned and ECM-conjugated fiber-films was significantly larger than^94μm in only NgF group(50 ng/mL),confirming the synergy of EgF,NgF and aligned ECM-conjuaged PPy-PLLA *** differentiated PC12 cells were exerted electrical stimulation(ES)of 100 mV/cm for 4 h/day in 2 day through ECM-PPyPLLA fiber-films,their neurite length reached to^251μm,significantly larger than^149μm of group without ES,due to the higer expression of related neural proteins in ES group.A simple mechanism was proposed to analyze synergistical effect of ECM,EgF,NgF on axons adhesion and elongation along the aligned ECM-coated fibers under ES condition.

The optical properties of graphene coated D-shaped single mode fiber and photonic crystal fiber are numerically analyzed. Enhancement of the graphene-light interaction is found in graphene coated D-shaped photonic crystal fiber,which introduces a tunable polarization of the D-shaped fiber by changing the chemical potential of the coated *** optimal polarizer model is demonstrated with the extinction ratio of 66.26 dB/mm and the insertion loss of 9.4 dB/*** modulator extinction ratios of the TE mode and TM mode are 11.5 dB and 5 dB, respectively, with a device length of100 μm. This paper provides a theoretical reference for the optical property research of the graphene fiber.

AIM:To explore the effectiveness of acupuncture transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(Acu-TENS), a non-invasive modality in reduction of rectal discomfort during barostat-induced rectal distension. METHODS:Forty healthy subjects were randomized to receive 45 min of either Acu-TENS or placebo-TENS(no electrical output)over acupuncture points Hegu(largeintestine 4),Neiguan(pericardium 6)and Zusanli(stomach 36).A balloon catheter attached to a dual-drive barostat machine was then inserted into the subjects'rectum.A step-wise(4 mmHg)increase in balloon pressure was induced until maximal tolerable or 48 *** analogue scale and a 5-point subjective discomfort scale(no perception,first per-ception of distension,urge to defecate,discomfort/ pain and extreme pain)were used to assess rectal discomfort at each distension *** beta-endorphin levels were measured before,immediately after intervention,at 24 mmHg and at maximal toler- able distension pressure. RESULTS:There was no difference in the demographic data and baseline plasma beta-endorphin levels between the two *** threshold levels were higher in the Acu-TENS group when compared to the placebo group,but the difference reached statistical significance only at the sensations"urge to defecate"and"pain".The distension pressures recorded at the"urge to defecate"sensation for the Acu-TENS and placebo-TENS groups were 28.0±4.5 mmHg and 24.6±5.7 mmHg,respectively(P=0.043);and the pressures recorded for the"pain"sensation for these two groups were 36.0±4.2 mmHg and 30.5± 4.3 mmHg respectively(P=0.002).Compared to the placebo group,a higher number of participants in the Acu-TENS group tolerated higher distension pressures (>40 mmHg)(65%in Acu-TENS vs 25%in placebo, P=0.02).The plasma beta-endorphin levels of the Acu-TENS group were significantly higher than that of the placebo group at barostat inflation pressure of 24 mmHg(1.31±0.40 ng/mL vs 1.04±0.43 ng/mL,P= 0.044)and at maximal inflation p

Microblade assemblages are among the most common prehistoric archaeological materials found on the Tibetan Plateau(TP)and are thought to indicate large scale migration to and settlement of the *** microblade sites,however,have been systematically excavated,especially in the remotest,highest-elevation regions of the *** timing of the large-scale arrival,spread,and permanent settlement of people on the TP therefore remains *** this paper,we report on a recently excavated site,Locality 3 of the Nwya Devu Site(ND3),located at 4600 meters above sea level(masl),near the shore of Ngoin Lake,on the interior *** analyses reveal a fairly typical microblade technological orientation and two types of microblade cores:wedge-shaped and semi-conical,which are similar to those found throughout North *** Optically Stimulated Luminescence(OSL)dating and AMS^(14)C dating,the age of ND3 ranges from 11 to 10 *** date range indicates ND3 is the oldest microblade site yet recorded in the remote,high-elevation regions of the TP and thus provides important information about when and how hunter-gatherers using microblades began exploiting the higher altitudes of the *** together,studies at ND3 and throughout the TP suggest that a microblade adaptation is associated with the first prolonged human occupation of the plateau and that microblades played a significant role in mediating the risks and facilitating the mobility necessary to permanently inhabit the TP.

Objective:To investigate the levels of serum Cortisol in patients with uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum(***) malaria in an area of unstable malaria transmission in eastern Sudan. Methods:The concentrations of Cortisol were measured in sera of 25 patients with uncomplicated *** malaria(at presentation,24 h and 7 d later) and 25 healthy volunteers using radioimmunoassay gamma ***:There was no significant difference in mean(SD) of total Cortisol levels in patients with malaria in comparison with the control group;602.2(369.6) vs. 449.2(311.7) ng/mL,P=*** patients with uncomplicated *** malaria,the mean(SD) presenting Cortisol levels were significantly higher in comparison to the levels on day 7;602.2 (369.6) vs.373.6(139.1) ng/mL,P=*** the patients with uncomplicated *** malaria (on presentation) Cortisol levels were not correlated with initial temperature or the presenting ***:Thus,Cortisol levels were not significantly different between the patients and the controls.

Multiple comparisons among genomes can clarify their evolution, speciation, and functional innova- tions. To date, the genome sequences of eight grasses representing the most economically important Poaceae （grass） clades have been published, and their genomic-level comparison is an essential foundation for evolutionary, functional, and translational research. Using a formal and conservative approach, we aligned these genomes. Direct comparison of paralogous gene pairs all duplicated simultaneously reveal striking variation in evolutionary rates among whole genomes, with nucleotide substitution slowest in rice and up to 48% faster in other grasses, adding a new dimension to the value of rice as a grass model. We reconstructed ancestral genome contents for major evolutionary nodes, potentially contributing to understanding the divergence and speciation of grasses. Recent fossil evidence suggests revisions of the estimated dates of key evolutionary events, implying that the pan-grass polyploidization occurred ~96 million years ago and could not be related to the Creta- ceous-Tertiary mass extinction as previously inferred. Adjusted dating to reflect both updated fossil evidence and lineage-specific evolutionary rates suggested that maize subgenome divergence and maize-sorghum divergence were virtually simultaneous, a coincidence that would be explained if poly- ploidization directly contributed to speciation. This work lays a solid foundation for Poaceae transla- tional genomics.
