Fertility Effects of Labor Market Conditions at Graduation

This study examines how individuals'fertility outcomes were affected by the labor market conditions they experienced at graduation.Using data from the Chinese General Social Survey,it finds that poor labor market conditions at graduation delayed individuals'entry into parenthood.Higher unemployment rates at graduation reduced the probability of having at least one child in the survey year for both men and women.The negative fertility effects generally followed a U-shape,reached the maximum around average childbearing ages,and faded out within 15 years after graduation.Low-skilled workers mainly contribute to the negative fertility effects observed in the whole sample.Employment and marital outcomes are also analyzed as potential mechanisms.Estimation results indicate that individuals who experienced poor labor market conditions at graduation delayed marriage and the birth of the first child due to a lower probability of being employed,reduced working hours,and adverse income shocks.The negative long-term fertility effects should be brought to policymakers'attention,especially when China's low fertility issue worsens.Policymakers are expected to create more favorable employment conditions for labor market entrants to encourage fertility and expand the future working-age population.

The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST) is the largest and most sensitive single-dish radio telescope in the world and has made many important scientific achievements in a few years. Given the enormous scientific research potential of the Milky Way center, it is necessary to enhance the observation zenith angle as close to the Milky Way center as possible. In this regard, a new mechanism for the feed cabin is proposed with cables and sliders, which is lighter in weight and larger in the workspace. This paper will introduce this new feed cabin and the whole feed support system and establish their mechanical models to optimize the relevant control parameters, making FAST achieve an observation zenith angle of at least 50°with satisfying the required constraints. It indicates that the new mechanism designed by the FAST team can be used for the FAST upgrade and the future FAST array project.

Bipolar medium-voltage DC(MVDC)and lowvoltage DC(LVDC)grids have the advantages of flexible integration of distributed renewable-energy generation and reliable power supply.In order to achieve voltage conversion,power transfer,and electrical isolation for bipolar MVDC and LVDC grids,a high-power DC-DC converter is essential.Therefore,this paper proposes an isolated bipolar modular multilevel DCDC converter(BiMMDC)with power self-balancing capability for interconnection of MVDC and LVDC grids.The proposed BiMMDC consists of two series connected MMCs in the MV stage to configure a bipolar MVDC interface,and interleaved converters combined with a dual-transformer are designed in the LV stage to configure the bipolar LVDC interface and to provide a self-balancing capability.Equivalent circuits of two series-connected MMCs and a dual-transformer with interleaved converters are derived.After that,operation principles of the proposed BiMMDC are introduced,considering balanced/unbalanced power transfer of bipolar LVDC grid and monopolar shortcircuit or open-circuit faults at MVDC grid.The control scheme is also presented for the proposed BiMMDC under different operating conditions.Finally,a Matlab simulation and controller hardware-in-the-loop(CHIL)evaluation results are provided to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed typology and its operating performance.

Oxide double perovskites A2 B’B"O6 are a class of emerging materials in the fields of optoelectronics and catalysis.Due to the chemical flexibilities of perovskite structures,there are multiple elemental combinations of cations A,B’,and B",which leading to tremendous candidates.In this study,we comprehensively screened stable oxide double perovskite A2 B’B"O6 from a pool of 2,018 perovskite candidates using a high-throughput computational approach.By considering a tolerance factor(t)-octahedral factor(μ) phase diagram,138 candidates with Fm 3 m, P21/c,and R3 c phases were selected and systematically studied via first-principles calculations based on density functional theory.The screening procedure finally predicted the existence of 21 stable perovskites,and 14 among them have never been reported.Verification with existing experimental results demonstrates that the prediction accuracy for perovskite formability is approximately 90%.The predicted oxide double perovskites exhibit quasi-direct bandgaps ranging from 0 to 4.4 eV with a significantly small direct-indirect bandgap difference,balanced electron and hole effective masses,and strong optical absorptions.The newly predicted oxide double perovskites may enlarge the pool of material candidates for applications in optoelectronics and photocatalysis.This study provides a route for computational screening of novel perovskites for functional applications.

Seru Scheduling Problems with Multiple Due-Windows Assignment and Learning Effect

This paper deals with seru scheduling problems with multiple due windows assignment and DeJong’s learning effect.Specific time intervals are assigned to jobs with multiple due windows and learning effect is introduced to characterize the decrease of processing times with the accumulation of the working experience.We assume that the set of jobs assigned to each due window is independent,and no inclusion exists between due windows.The objective is to determine the optimal due window positions and sizes,the set of jobs assigned to each due window,and the optimal schedule in each seru to minimize a multidimensional function,which consists of the earliness and tardiness punishment cost,as well as the due window related starting time and size cost.We find that when the number of jobs and the due windows assigned to each seru are pre-specified in advance,the problem can be solved in polynomial time.Meanwhile,the impacts of the due-window allocation strategy and learning effect on the total cost are respectively discussed based on numerical examples and special cases.The results show that if each seru is assigned with the same number of due windows,the total cost can be reduced with the increasing ratio of the due-window number to the to-be-processed job number.Furthermore,with an increasing learning effect,the total cost will be decreased.

Animal models are essential for investigating the pathogenesis and developing the treatment of human diseases.Identification of genetic mutations responsible for neurodegenerative diseases has enabled the creation of a large number of small animal models that mimic genetic defects found in the affected individuals.Of the current animal models,rodents with genetic modifications are the most commonly used animal models and provided important insights into pathogenesis.However,most of genetically modified rodent models lack overt neurodegeneration,imposing challenges and obstacles in utilizing them to rigorously test the therapeutic effects on neurodegeneration.Recent studies that used CRISPR/Cas9-targeted large animal(pigs and monkeys)have uncovered important pathological events that resemble neurodegeneration in the patient’s brain but could not be produced in small animal models.Here we highlight the unique nature of large animals to model neurodegenerative diseases as well as the limitations and challenges in establishing large animal models of neurodegenerative diseases,with focus on Huntington disease,Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,and Parkinson diseases.We also discuss how to use the important pathogenic insights from large animal models to make rodent models more capable of recapitulating important pathological features of neurodegenerative diseases.

Effect of the MgO/SiO_(2) ratio on MgO–silica binders solidifying MSWI fly ash

To improve the effect of MgO–SiO_(2) binders solidifying municipal solid waste incineration fly ash(MSWI FA),MSWI FA solidified bodies with five MgO/SiO_(2) ratios(0.41~3.77)were investigated.The leaching behavior of solidified bodies was evaluated by leaching toxicity tests and pH-dependent experiments.In addition,hydration products in solidified bodies were analyzed by thermodynamic modeling and microstructure characterizations.The results showed that the variation in the MgO/SiO_(2) ratio had a significant effect on the leaching toxicity of the solidified bodies,because it affected the leachate pH and the composition of the hydration products of the solidified bodies.The acid and alkali resistance of the MSWI FA was enhanced through solidification with MgO–SiO_(2) binders.MgO can improve the alkalinity of the solidified bodies and facilitate the chemical precipitation of heavy metals.Moreover,silica fume,an industrial waste,can serve as a cost-effective measure.Overall,MgO–SiO_(2) binders demonstrated great potential as promising candidates for encapsulating MSWI FA.

Yne-allenes bearing both a C-C triple bond and an allene unit are a class of focal substrates in organic synthesis,in view of their structure diversity,.high reactivity and intermediate variety in the past years.Engaging yne-allenes in numerous annulation cascades provides efficient and direct accesses to elaborate functionalized polycyclic molecular architectures in a convergent manner.There are lots of types of catalytic chemical reactions such as intramolecular cyclizations,cycloisomerizations,intermolecular annulations,and bicyclizations as well as tricyclizations with the assistance of Lewis acids,Bronsted acids,bases,transition metals,and otherr c atalysts.This review provides an overview of the chemistry developed with transformations of yne-allenes by discussing their general and specific reactivities,presenting and commenting on their mechanisms as well as their applications.

FinTech Can Prevent the Formation of Zombie Firms:Evidence from China

The interplay between financial technology(FinTech)and real economy firms has garnered considerable attention.This paper explores the relationship and mechanism between FinTech and corporate zombification using the data of Chinese A-share listed firms in China from 2011 to 2021.The research findings reveal that FinTech significantly inhibits firm zombification,and FinTech breadth and depth both play a significant role in restraining firm zombification.Mechanism exploration indicates that,on the one hand,FinTech reduces friction in the financial market,inhibiting firm zombification by improving firm investment efficiency,especially alleviating under-investment.On the other side,FinTech indirectly affects the technological investment,production,and operation of firms,thereby inhibiting firm zombification by increasing their total factor productivity.Heterogeneity analysis suggests that the inhibitory effect of FinTech on corporate zombification is more pronounced for non-stateowned firms and small-sized firms,as well as those in manufacturing industries and highly competitive industries.This paper provides some novel evidence on evaluating the effect of FinTech on firms and also offers new insights for efficient governance of zombie firms.
