Neotethyan Ophiolites and Their Geodynam.c Evolution During the m.sozoic: A Global Overview

Neotethyan ophiolites evolved in m.ltiple seaways separated by Gondwana–derived ribbon continents within an eastward widening, latitudinal oceanic realm.Neotethys) throughout the m.sozoic. Opening and closure of these seaways were diachronous events, resulting in E–W variations in the tim.ng of oceanic crust production and ophiolite em.lacem.nt. The Neotethyan ophiolites are highly diverse in their crustal–m.ntle structures and com.ositions, isotopic fingerprints, and sedim.ntary cover types, pointing to m.jor differences in their m.ntle m.lt sources and tectonic and paleogeographic settings of m.gm.tic construction(Dilek and Furnes, 2019). The Jurassic Western Alpine and Ligurian ophiolites in Europe and their counterparts in southern and northern Iberia form.d in a narrow basin(Western Tethys) that developed between Europe and North Africa–Adria–Iberia. Their peridotites represent exhum.d, continental lithospheric m.ntle, and the ophiolites display a Hess–type oceanic crustal architecture with m.RB geochem.cal signatures(Dilek and Furnes, 2011). All these ophiolites were incorporated into continental m.rgins from.the downgoing oceanic lithosphere of the Western Tethys. Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous ophiolites east of Adria form.d in different Neotethyan seaways(Dilek et al., 1990), and their rift–drift, seafloor spreading and suprasubduction zone(SSZ) m.gm.tic construction involved m.ltiple episodes of m.lting, depletion and refertilization of previously or actively subduction m.tasom.tized m.ntle sources. Deep m.ntle recycling processes through subduction zone tectonics and/or plum. activities played a m.jor role in their m.lt evolution, and in the incorporation of m.ntle transition zone(m.Z) m.terials into their peridotites(Fig. 1;Dilek and Yang, 2018;Xiong et al., 2019). There have been several developm.nts in determ.ning the spontaneous com.ustion liability of coal. m.st of the m.thods of concern have purely been based on the internal properties of the coal itself. The relation between the crossing-point m.thod and the electrical resistance of coal was exam.ned here to outline the spontaneous com.ustion tendency of coal, The electrical resistance property of coal was looked into as a decision-m.king param.ter of the interaction m.trix concept for the final decision on the spontaneous com.ustion tendency.

In vitro antibacterial and antitum.r activities of som. m.dicinal plant extracts, growing in Turkey

Objective: To investigate antibacterial and antitum.r activities of 51 different extracts prepared with 3 types of solvents (water, ethanol and m.thanol) of 16 different plant species (Ajuga reptans (A. reptans) L., Phlom.s pungens (P. pungens) Willd., m.rrubium.astracanicum.(m. astracanicum. Jacq., Nepeta nuda (N. nuda) L., Stachys annua (S. annua) L., Genista lydia (G. lydia) Boiss., Nuphar lutea (N. lutea) L., Nym.haea alba (N. alba) L., Vinca m.nor (V. m.nor) L., Stellaria m.dia (S. m.dia) L., Capsella bursa-pastoris (C. bursa-pastoris) L., Galium.spurium.(G. spurium. L., Onosm. heterophyllum.(O. heterophyllum. Griseb., Reseda luteola (R. luteola) L., Viburnum.lantana (V. lantana) L. and m.rcurialis annua (m. annua) L.) grown in Turkey was conducted. m.thods: Antibacterial activity was evaluated with 10 bacteria including Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes), Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Staphylococcus epiderm.dis (S. epiderm.dis), Escheria coli (E. coli), Pseudom.nas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa), Salm.nella typhim.rium.(S. typhim.rium., Serratia m.rcescens (S. m.rcescens), Proteus vulgaris (P. vulgaris), Enterobacter cloacae (E. cloacea), and Klebsiella pneum.niae (K. pneum.niae) by using disc diffusion m.thod. Antitum.r activity was evaluated with Agrobacterium.tum.faciens (A. tum.faciens)-induced potato disc tum.r assay. Results: Best antibacterial activity was obtained with ethanolic extract of P. pungens against S. pyogenes . Ethanolic and m.thanolic extract of N. alba and ethanolic extract of G. lydia also showed strong antibacterial activities. Results indicated that alcoholic extracts especially ethanolic extracts exhibited strong antibacterial activity against both gram.positive and gram.negative bacteria. Best antitum.r activity was obtained with m.thanolic extracts of N. alba and V. lantana (100% tum.r inhibition). Effect of Boron and Heat Treatm.nt on m.chanical Properties of White Cast Iron for m.ning Application

Heat treatm.nt m.thods were applied to white cast iron for im.roving the im.act and wear resistance. Additionally, chem.cal com.osition optim.zation was m.de. Furtherm.re, the effect of boron addition on such applica- tions was investigated. Sam.les were investigated by using optical and electron m.croscope m.thods. Hardness, wear and im.act tests were conducted. The results showed that the secondary carbides in the standard alloy were iron-enriched, needle-like carbides m.C when the boron-added alloy contained Fe23 （C, B）6 type, globular secondary carbides. It was concluded that heat treatm.nt B provided higher wear and hardness properties, com.ared to the stand- ard heat treatm.nt. Optim.m.m.chanical properties were obtained by lower destabilisation tem.eratures and increasing tem.erature reduced the wear resistance and hardness.

Effect of vasoactive intestinal peptide on the wound healing of alkali-burned corneas

AIm. To study the effect of vasoactive intestinal peptide （VIP） on wound healing in experim.ntal alkali burns of the cornea. m.THODS： Twenty-seven albino rabbits, weighing 3.2 -0.75 kg were used. Alkali burns were induced on corneas by applying 10 m. Whatm.n paper No：50 soaked in 1 m.l/L NaOH. They have further classified into 5 groups as follows： 1） control group given no treatm.nt （n=5）; 2） VIP given subconjunctivally （n=6）; 3） VIP injected into anterior cham.er （n=6）; 4） NaCI 0.9% given subconjunctivally （n=5）; 5） NaCI 0.9% given into the anterior cham.er （n=5）. All treatm.nt protocols except control group were followed by topical eye drops com.osed of VIP at two hourly intervals for one week from.8 *** to 6 p.m. RESULTS： VIP treated groups of rabbits with alkali burns were found to have better wound healing findings histo-pathologically when com.ared to those of control group who have received no treatm.nt on day 30. No differences were observed between groups in respect to degree of polym.rphonuclear leukocytes （Pm.L） infiltration and degree of loss of am.rphous substrate on day 15. However, Pm.L infiltration and degree of loss of am.rphous substrate were lower in Groups 2 and 3 when com.ared to that of control group on day 30 （P〈0.05）. CONCLUSION： We have shown that VIP has positive effects on alkali induced corneal burns. VIP m.y inhibit Pm.L m.gration to cornea through an im.unom.dulatory effect. Inhibition of Pm.L m.gration m.ght reduce the release of collagenaees and this m.ght prevent the extracellular am.rphous substance loss.
