Modeling method for SSC prediction in pomelo using Vis-NIRS with wavelength selection and latent variable updating

The aim of this study was in-line,rapid,and non-destructive detection for soluble solid content(SSC)in pomelos using visible and near-infrared spectroscopy(Vis-NIRS).However,the large size and thick rind of pomelo affect the stability of spectral acquisition and the biological variabilities affect the robustness of *** these issues,in this study,an efficient prototype in-line detection system in transmittance mode was designed and evaluated in comparison with an off-line detection *** from the years 2019 and 2020 were used for modeling and the external validation data were obtained by the inline detection system in *** wavelength selection methods of changeable size moving window(CSMW),random frog(RF),and competitive adaptive reweighted sampling(CARS)were used to improve the prediction accuracy of partial least squares regression(PLSR)*** best performance of internal prediction was obtained by CARS-PLSR and the determination coefficient of prediction(),root mean square error of prediction(RMSEP),and residual predictive deviation(RPD)were 0.958,0.204%,and 4.821,***,all models obtained large prediction biases in external *** latent variable updating(LVU)method was proposed to update models and improve the performance in external *** samples from the external validation set were randomly selected to update the *** with the recalibration method,LVU could effectively modify the original models which matched the SSC range of the external validation *** CSMW-PLSR models were more robust in external *** off-line model with LVU performed best with a root mean square error of validation(RMSEV)of 0.599%and the in-line model with recalibration obtained RMSEV of 0.864%.These results demonstrated the application potential of the transmittance Vis-NIRS for in-line rapid prediction of SSC in pomelos and the modeling and updating methods could be applied to samples with biological variabi

Geometric based apple suction strategy for robotic packaging

Packaging is one of the least automated steps among all the fruit postharvest processes,which is time-consuming and ***,a robust suction strategy for robotic manipulation needs to be *** this research,a geometric-based apple suction strategy for robotic packaging was studied,including suction cup design,optimal suction region selection algorithm,and robot system *** the first place,on the basis of the geometric features of the spheroid fruit,the structure of the suction cups was designed to provide reliable suction ***,suction force measurement experiments on both acrylic balls and apples were *** on the results,the parameters of the suction cup were finally *** results also indicated that the curvature radius of the suction region is supposed to larger than that of the suction ***,a robust suction region selection algorithm was developed,which involves four steps:RGB-D information acquisition,object detection and point cloud generation,spherical fitting,and suction region ***,the above methods were integrated into a robotic packaging *** addition,on the basis of spatial-frequency domain imaging(SFDI)technology,early stage bruise was detected for *** results showed that,the proposed suction strategy and system is potential for robust robotic apple packaging.

Plant wearable sensors have potential to provide continuous measurements of plant physiological ***,stable and high-fidelity monitoring of plants with glandular hairs and wax is challenging,due to lacking interface adaptability of conventional plant wearable ***,inspired by adaptive winding plant tendrils,an integrated plant wearable system(IPWS)based on adaptive winding strain(AWS)sensor for plant pulse monitoring was *** IPWS consists of three modules,*** AWS sensor,a flexible printed circuit,and a smart phone APP display *** the key element,the AWS sensor can adaptively wrap around the tomato ***,with the serpentine-patterned laser-induced graphene,the AWS sensor exhibits excellent resistance to temperature interference with a temperature resistance coefficient of 0.17/℃.The IPWS is demonstrated to be stable and high-fidelity monitoring the plant pulse,which can reflect the growth and water state of tomato plant in real time.

Determination of trace heavy metals in milk using an ionic liquid and bismuth oxide nanoparticles modified carbon paste electrode

A novel carbon composite electrode modified with bismuth oxide nanoparticles and the ionic liquid n-octylpyridinium hexafluorophosphate was fabricated and used to simultaneously determine cadmium and lead levels using square wave anodic stripping *** electrode combines the unique advantages of nanomaterials and ionic liquid with the low cost and easy fabrication of the carbon composite *** with the traditional binder based composite electrode,our electrode exhibited well-defined and separate stripping voltammetric peaks for cadmium and ***,the antifouling capacity of the bismuth film electrode was significantly improved by the ionic *** optimized conditions,the linear range of the composite electrode was from 3.0 to 30.0 μg L-1 for both metal ions with a detection limit of 0.15 μg L-1 for cadmium and 0.21 μg L-1 for *** milk sample analyses showed that the modified electrode was sensitive,reliable and effective for the determination of trace heavy metals,holding great promise for routine analysis applications.

Detection of immunoglobulin E using an aptamer based dot-blot assay

A novel aptamer based dot-blot assay for the detection of immunoglobulin E (IgE) was developed. A biotinylated aptamer was employed as the bio-recognition element to specifically interact with the target protein immobilized onto a nitrocellulose membrane substrate. Avidin conjugated horseradish peroxidase was introduced onto the membrane through the biotin-avidin system to catalyze the hydrogen peroxide mediated oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine, thereby producing the blue-colored insoluble product. The intensity of the dots increased as the concentration of IgE increased. The spot intensity was quantified using a simple portable instrument. A linear response relationship between the spot intensity and the concentration of IgE over the range of 50 nmol/L to 1 μmol/L was obtained. The detection limit for IgE using the aptamer-based assay was 2.89 nmol/L. This assay was found to discriminate IgE from non-target proteins such as thrombin, bovine serum albumin and immunoglobulin G.

Quantitative and qualitative measurement of pear firmness based on near infrared spectroscopy and chemometrics

Firmness is one of the most important characteristics to estimate fruit maturity and *** potential of near-infrared(NIR)diffuse reflectance spectroscopy as a nondestructive way for pear firmness evaluation of three varieties(‘Cuiguan’,‘Xueqing’and‘Xizilv’)was studied,both quantitatively and *** models were established using partial least square(PLS)methods in the spectral range of 800 to 2500 *** quantitative analysis,the correlation coefficient r increased with more varieties involved in the *** results were obtained in the model for all three varieties:rcalwas 0.934,root mean square error of calibration(RMSEC)and root mean square error of prediction(RMSEP)were 2.06 N and 3.14 N,*** qualitative analysis,the overall accuracies of discriminant PLS models for classifying pears into three firmness levels:low,medium and high firmness level were not so good,percentage of samples correctly classified ranged from 70.63%to 81.25%for calibration and from 56.25%to 74.38%for *** results indicate that NIR spectroscopy together with PLS chemometrics method is feasible for quantitative analysis of pear firmness,however,the classification accuracy is too low to put into practical application.

Precautionary analysis of sprouting potato eyes using hyperspectral imaging technology

Sprouted potatoes are not allowed for healthy diet.A good knowledge of the sprouting stage of potatoes can help manage the storage conditions and guide market distribution,thus enabling the quality assurance of potatoes on *** article presented an intelligent method for precautionary analysis of potato eyes based on hyperspectral imaging *** potato eyes were classified into two categories according to the time gap to the sprouting date,***-sprouting and pre-sprouting potato eyes,representing eyes about to sprout and eyes that will take a while to *** used for classification were extracted by two methods,including successive projections algorithm(SPA)and a newly-developed sine fit algorithm(SFA).Then classifiers of fisher discriminant analysis(FDA)and least square support vector machine(LSSVM)were utilized for classification of potential sprouting potato *** showed that FDA was more effective than LSSVM in classifying pre-sprouting and by-sprouting potato eyes,and SFA performed well in FDA classifier with the recognition accuracy of 95.3%for prediction *** is concluded that hyperspectral imaging has the potential for predicting the sprouting stages of potato eyes.
