Effects of different frequencies of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on the recovery of upper limb motor dysfunction in patients with subacute cerebral infarction

Studies have confirmed that low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation can decrease the activity of cortical neurons, and high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation can increase the excitability of cortical neurons. However, there are few studies concerning the use of different frequencies of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on the recovery of upper-limb motor function after cerebral infarction. We hypothesized that different frequencies of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in patients with cerebral infarction would produce different effects on the recovery of upper-limb motor function. This study enrolled 127 patients with upper-limb dysfunction during the subacute phase of cerebral infarction. These patients were randomly assigned to three groups. The low-frequency group comprised 42 patients who were treated with 1 Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on the contralateral hemisphere primary motor cortex （M1）. The high-frequency group comprised 43 patients who were treated with 10 Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on ipsilateral M1. Finally, the sham group comprised 42 patients who were treated with 10 Hz of false stimulation on ipsilateral M1. A total of 135 seconds of stimulation was applied in the sham group and high-frequency group. At 2 weeks after treatment, cortical latency of motor-evoked potentials and central motor conduction time were significantly lower compared with before treatment. Moreover, motor function scores were significantly improved. The above indices for the low- and high-frequency groups were significantly different compared with the sham group. However, there was no significant difference between the low- and high-frequency groups. The results show that low- and high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation can similarly improve upper-limb motor function in patients with cerebral infarction.

The effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma(PRP)for the treatment of Achilles tendon disorders still needs to be evaluated through a series of prospective studies,but genomic analysis can reveal the existence of complementary PRP treatment options.Based on the 96 platelet activation-related genes in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)database,we performed Gene Ontology functional enrichment analysis and KEGG enrichment analysis,pathway correlation analysis,and enrichment mapping to determine the enrichment results of the gene set enrichment analysis and found that the cAMP signalling pathway may be the key to enhancing the effectiveness of PRP treatment.The cAMP signalling pathway interacts with the Rap1 signalling pathway and cGMPPKG signalling pathway to mediate the entire pathophy-siological process of Achilles tendon disease.Moreover,ADCY1-9 may be the key to the activation of the cAMP signalling network.Further based on the data in the Gene Expression Omnibus database,it was found that ADCY4 and ADCY7 may be the players that play a major role,associated with the STAT4-ADCY4-LAMA5 axis and the GRbeta-ADCY7-SEMA3C axis,which is expected to be a complementary target for enhancing the efficacy of PRP in the treatment of Achilles tendon disease.

The asymmetric hydrogenation of N-heteroarenes provides an efficient method for the synthesis of optically active cyclic secondary amines.In this paper,we described an asymmetric hydrogenation of phenanthridines using a chiral mono-alkene-derived borane.A variety of dihydrophenanthridines were furnished in high yields with up to 93%ee.The current catalytic system was very sensitive for the steric hindrance of phenanthridines.Bulky substituents at one phenyl group of phenanthridines were required to obtain the high enantioselectivity.But large substituents on the carbon of the C=N bonds would diminish the reactivity sharply.

Histological Features of Uterine Myometrial Dysfunction:Possible Involvement of Localized Inflammation

Objective The latest perspective suggests that elevated levels of inflammation and cytokines are implicated in atonic postpartum hemorrhage.Lipopolysaccharide(LPS)has been widely used to induce inflammation in animal models.Therefore,this study aimed to induce uterine inflammation using LPS to investigate whether local inflammation triggers dysfunction and atrophy in the myometrium,as well as the potential underlying molecular mechanisms involved.Methods In vivo,an animal model was established by intraperitoneal injection of 300μg/kg LPS in rats on gestational day 21.Hematoxylin-eosin(H&E)staining and Masson staining were employed to determine morphological changes in the rat uterine smooth muscle.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was used to detect inflammatory cytokines.Immunohistochemistry,tissue fluorescence,and Western blotting were conducted to assess the expression levels of the uterine contraction-related proteins Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)and the nuclear factor kappa-B(NF-κB)signaling pathway.In vitro,human uterine smooth muscle cells(HUtSMCs)were exposed to 2μg/mL LPS to further elucidate the involvement of the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway in LPS-mediated inflammation.Results In this study,LPS induced uterine myometrial dysfunction in rats,leading to a disorganized arrangement,a significant increase in collagen fiber deposition,and widespread infiltration of inflammatory cells.In both in vivo animal models and in vitro HUtSMCs,LPS elevated IL-6,IL-1β,and TNF-αlevels while concurrently suppressing the expression of connexin 43(Cx43)and oxytocin receptor(OXTR).Mechanistically,the LPS-treated group exhibited TLR4 activation,and the phosphorylation levels of p65 and IκBαwere notably increased.Conclusion LPS triggered the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway,inducing an inflammatory response in the myometrium and leading to uterine myometrial dysfunction and uterine atony.

Asymmetric Partial Hydrosilylation of 2,2-Difluoro-1,3-diketones with Chiral Frustrated Lewis Pairs

Comprehensive Summary,The asymmetric partial reduction of 1,3-diketones stands as a straightforward pathway to access optically active β-hydroxyketones. In this paper, an asymmetric Piers-type hydrosilylation of 2,2-difluoro-1,3-diketones was successfully realized by using a frustrated Lewis pair of chiral borane and tricyclohexylphosphine as a catalyst, delivering a variety of α,α-difluoro-β-hydroxyketones in high yields with up to 99% ee. Significantly, no over-reduced diol products were observed even with an excess amount of silanes. The product can be conveniently converted to α,α-difluoro-β-hydroxyester or 1,3-anti-diol via an oxidation with m-CPBA or a reduction with DIBAL-H without obvious loss of ee.

Sparse Modal Decomposition Method Addressing Underdetermined Vortex-Induced Vibration Reconstruction Problem for Marine Risers

When investigating the vortex-induced vibration(VIV)of marine risers,extrapolating the dynamic response on the entire length based on limited sensor measurements is a crucial step in both laboratory experiments and fatigue monitoring of real risers.The problem is conventionally solved using the modal decomposition method,based on the principle that the response can be approximated by a weighted sum of limited vibration modes.However,the method is not valid when the problem is underdetermined,i.e.,the number of unknown mode weights is more than the number of known measurements.This study proposed a sparse modal decomposition method based on the compressed sensing theory and the Compressive Sampling Matching Pursuit(Co Sa MP)algorithm,exploiting the sparsity of VIV in the modal space.In the validation study based on high-order VIV experiment data,the proposed method successfully reconstructed the response using only seven acceleration measurements when the conventional methods failed.A primary advantage of the proposed method is that it offers a completely data-driven approach for the underdetermined VIV reconstruction problem,which is more favorable than existing model-dependent solutions for many practical applications such as riser structural health monitoring.

Achieving Seconds-to-Hours duration-Tunable Organic Long Persistent Luminescence from Carbon Dots-Based Exciplex Systems by Energy Gaps Regulation

Comprehensive Summary duration-tunable afterglow materials have garnered considerable attention in various applications.Herein,carbon dots(CDs)-based long persistent luminescence(LPL)composites with a tunable duration in an ultrawide range of seconds-to-hours levels were designed and prepared for the first time.In contrast to the established CD-based afterglow materials,we reported that CD-based composites exhibit LPL in the form of exciplexes and long-lived charge-separated states,enabling the LPL to be prolonged from several seconds to over one hour,exceeding the typical regulation range(limited to 1 min).Further studies revealed that the relationship between the excited and charge-transfer states of CDs plays a pivotal role in activating the LPL and regulating its duration.Furthermore,these composites exhibited high photoluminescence(PL)quantum yields of up to 60.63%,and their LPL was robust under ambient conditions,even in aqueous media.Their robust and superior LPL performance endows these composites with a strong competitive advantage in dynamic display systems,such as tags for time-resolved data encryption and displays of the remaining time of takeaways.This study offers an approach to preparing CDs-based LPL composites with tunable durations and may provide new insights for the development of rare-earth-free LPL materials.

Exercise-induced modulation of miR-149-5p and MMP9 in LPS-triggered diabetic myoblast ER stress: licorice glycoside E as a potential therapeutic target

Background:This study explores the relationship between endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress and diabetes,particularly focusing on the impact of physical exercise on ER stress mechanisms and identifying potential therapeutic drugs and targets for diabetes-related sepsis.The research also incorporates traditional physical therapy perspectives,emphasizing the genomic insights gained from exercise therapy in disease management and prevention.Methods:Gene analysis was conducted on the GSE168796 and GSE94717 datasets to identify ER stress-related genes.Gene interactions and immune cell correlations were mapped using GeneCard and STRING databases.A screening of 2,456 compounds from the TCMSP database was performed to identify potential therapeutic agents,with a focus on their docking potential.Techniques such as luciferase reporter gene assay and RNA interference were used to examine the interactions between microRNA-149-5p and MMP9.Results:The study identified 2,006 differentially expressed genes and 616 miRNAs.Key genes like MMP9,TNF-α,and IL1B were linked to an immunosuppressive state.Licorice glycoside E demonstrated high affinity for MMP9,suggesting its potential effectiveness in treating diabetes.The constructed miRNA network highlighted the regulatory roles of MMP9,IL1B,IFNG,and TNF-α.Experimental evidence confirmed the binding of microRNA-149-5p to MMP9,impacting apoptosis in diabetic cells.Conclusion:The findings highlight the regulatory role of microRNA-149-5p in managing MMP9,a crucial gene in diabetes pathophysiology.Licorice glycoside E emerges as a promising treatment option for diabetes,especially targeting MMP9 affected by ER stress.The study also underscores the significance of physical exercise in modulating ER stress pathways in diabetes management,bridging traditional physical therapy and modern scientific understanding.Our study has limitations.It focuses on the microRNA-149-5p-MMP9 network in sepsis,using cell-based methods without animal or clinical trials.Despite strong in vitro findings,in vivo stud

Biomimetic soft robotic wrist with 3-DOF motion and stiffness tunability based on ring-reinforced pneumatic actuators and a particle jamming joint

The human wrist, a complex articulation of skeletal muscles and two-carpal rows, substantially contributes to improvements in maneuverability by agilely performing three-degree-of-freedom(3-DOF) orienting tasks and regulating stiffness according to variations in interaction forces. However, few soft robotic wrists simultaneously demonstrate dexterous 3-DOF motion and variable stiffness;in addition, they do not fully consider a soft-rigid hybrid structure of integrated muscles and two carpal rows.In this study, we developed a soft-rigid hybrid structure to design a biomimetic soft robotic wrist(BSRW) that is capable of rotating in the x and y directions, twisting around the z-axis, and possessing stiffness-tunable capacity. To actuate the BSRW, a lightweight soft-ring-reinforced bellows-type pneumatic actuator(SRBPA) with large axial, linear deformation(η_(lcmax)=70.6%,η_(lemax)=54.3%) and small radial expansion(η_(demax)=3.7%) is designed to mimic the motion of skeletal muscles. To represent the function of two-carpal rows, a compact particle-jamming joint(PJJ) that combines particles with a membrane-covered ballsocket mechanism is developed to achieve various 3-DOF motions and high axial load-carrying capacity(>60 N). By varying the jamming pressure, the stiffness of the PJJ can be adjusted. Finally, a centrally positioned PJJ and six independently actuated SRBPAs, which are in an inclined and antagonistic arrangement, are sandwiched between two rigid plates to form a flexible,stable, and compact BSRW. Such a structure enables the BSRW to have a dexterous 3-DOF motion, high load-carrying ability,and stiffness tunability. Experimental analysis verify 3-DOF motion of BSRW, producing force of 29.6 N and 36 N and torque of2.2 Nm in corresponding rotations. Moreover, the range of rotational angle and stiffness-tuning properties of BSRW are studied by applying jamming pressure to the PJJ. Application of Improved Fuzzy Immune PID Controller to Bending Control System

Based on the hydraulic bending control system,the electrohydraulic servo pressure control simulation model is built.Taking into account of the inadequacy of P-type immune feedback controller,an improved fuzzy immune PID controller is put forward.Drawing on immune feedback principle of biological immune system,the P-type immune feedback controller is connected with conventional PID controller in series and then in parallel with design fuzzy immune PID controller.The controller parameters can be adjusted on line by the rules of immune feedback controller and fuzzy controller.In order to gain the optimal parameters of the controller,the parameters of the controller are off-line optimized by the best multiple optimal model PSO algorithm.The simulation results indicate that the method has characteristics of small overshoot,short adjusting time and strong anti-interference ability and robustness.The quality of the strip shape can be further improved.
