In this work,the effect of Re alloying on the phase composition,crystal structure,and mechanical properties of NbMoTaWRe_(x) (x=0,0.27,0.57,0.92,1.33) refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) were systematically investigated by combining the calculation of phase diagram(CALPHAD),first-principle calculations and experiment.The theoretical predictions showed good consistency with the experimental results.As the increase in Re content,the theoretical results showed that all considered alloys have a single body-centered cubic (bcc) structure and the lattice constant and ductility were decreased,while the elastic moduli and hardness were improved.To avoid extreme brittleness,a strategic suggestion was given for the design of Re-containing RHEAs in the future.

The photocaging strategy has been widely used for activating biomolecules and hence regulating the underlying biological processes with high temporal and spatial resolution.Herein,we integrate this strategy into metabolic glycan labeling,which enables optical-ly-controlled metabolic labeling of cell-surface sialoglycans with azides.N-Azidoacetylmannosamine(ManNAz)is caged with a 4,5-dimethoxy-2-nitrobenzyl(DMNB)group at the anomeric hydroxyl group to block its cellular metabolism.After feeding to the cells,irradiation with 365 nm UV light or 405 nm visible light cleaves the photocage and generates ManNAz within the cells.ManNAz is metabolically converted to azido sialic acid,which is then incorporated into cell-surface sialoglycans.We demonstrated spatial and temporal control of this strategy by specifically labeling sialoglycans on a single cell and tracking the metabolism of ManNAz based on light-triggered pulse-chase labeling,respectively.The light-controlled metabolic glycan labeling strategy should facilitate probing of glycosylation in complex biological systems with high spatiotemporal precision.

BACKGROUND Congenital anomalous retinal artery is rare and does not typically affect visual acuity.However,an abnormal artery that passes through and supplies blood to the macular area complicated with branch retinal artery occlusion may negatively impact visual acuity.This study reports an unusual case of anomalous retinal artery combined with retinal artery occlusion.CASE SUMMARY A 52-year-old male presented with severely reduced vision in the right eye.The fundus examination revealed an anomalous artery,extending from the superior temporal arcade and crossing the macula into the inferior temporal quadrant.The anomalous artery was partially occluded,with a narrowed lumen.A cherry-red spot was observed with whitening of the macular area,suggesting macular edema.Fundus fluorescein angiography revealed disc leakage and a delayed filling time.Optical coherence tomography revealed increased thickness of the neuroretina and underlying layers.The patient was treated with vessel dilation,hyperbaric oxygen,ocular massage,and thrombolytics.Visual acuity of the right eye subsequently improved to 20/200 from hand motion at 4 cm.This improvement in visual acuity persisted when the patient was examined at the 1-mo follow-up visit.The patient was subsequently followed via telephone interview.The information provided via interview indicated that visual acuity in the affected eye was stable up to 6 years from the time of the initial presentation.However,after 3 additional years,the patient was diagnosed with neovascular glaucoma in the right eye,which was subsequently enucleated.CONCLUSION Although congenital retinal vascular anomaly,including anomalous retinal artery,rarely affects vision,when complicated with branch retinal artery occlusion,the abnormal artery that supplies the macula may severely reduce visual acuity.

During a 2018 antimicrobial resistance surveillance of Escherichia coli isolates from diarrheal calves in Xinjiang Province,China,an unexpectedly high prevalence(48.5%)of fosfomycin resistance was observed.This study aimed to reveal the determinants of fosfomycin resistance and the underlying transmission mechanism.Polymerase chain reaction(PCR)screening showed that all fosfomycin-resistant E.coli carried the fosA3 gene.Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE)and southern blot hybridization revealed that the 16 fosA3-positive isolates belonged to four different PFGE patterns(i.e.,A,B,C,D).The fosA3 genes of 11 clonally related strains(pattern D)were located on the chromosome,while others were carried by plasmids.Whole-genome and long-read sequencing indicated that the pattern D strains were E.coli O101:H9-ST10,and the pattern C,B,and A strains were O101:H9-ST167,O8:H30-ST1431,and O101:H9 with unknown ST,respectively.Among the pattern C strains,the blaCTX-M-14 gene was co-localized with the fosA3 gene on the F18:A-:B1 plasmids.Interestingly,phylogenetic analysis based on core genome single nucleotide polymorphisms(cgSNPs)showed that the O101:H9-ST10 strains were closely related to a Australian-isolated Chroicocephalus-origin E.coli O101:H9-ST10 strain producing CTX-M-14 and FosA3,with a difference of only 11 SNPs.These results indicate possible international dissemination of the high-risk E.coli clone O101:H9-ST10 by migratory birds.

In the future, the Very Large Area gamma-ray Space Telescope is expected to observe high-energy electrons and gamma rays in the MeV to TeV range with unprecedented acceptance. As part of the detector suite, a high-energy imaging calorimeter(HEIC) is currently being developed as a homogeneous calorimeter that utilizes long bismuth germanate(BGO) scintillation crystals as both absorbers and detectors. To accurately measure the energy deposition in the BGO bar of HEIC, a highdynamic-range readout method using a silicon photomultiplier(SiPM) and multiphotodiode(PD) with different active areas has been proposed. A prototype readout system that adopts multichannel charge measurement ASICs was also developed to read out the combined system of SiPMs and PDs. Preliminary tests confirmed the feasibility of the readout scheme, which is expected to have a dynamic range close to 10~6.

Drought is one of the most widespread and devastating extreme climate events when water availability is significantly below normal levels for a long period.In recent years,the Haihe River Basin has been threatened by intensified droughts.Therefore,characterization of droughts in the basin is of great importance for sustainable water resources management.In this study,two multi-scalar drought indices,the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index(SPEI)with potential evapotranspiration calculated by the PenmaneMonteith equation and the standardized precipitation index(SPI),were used to evaluate the spatiotemporal variations of drought characteristics from 1961 to 2017 in the Haihe River Basin.In addition,the large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns were used to further explore the potential links between drought trends and climatic anomalies.An increasing tendency in drought duration was detected over the Haihe River Basin with frequent drought events occurring in the period from 1997 to 2003.The results derived from both SPEI and SPI demonstrated that summer droughts were significantly intensified.The analysis of large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns indicated that the intensified summer droughts could be attributed to the positive geopotential height anomalies in Asian mid-high latitudes and the insufficient water vapor fluxes transported from the south.©2021 Hohai University.Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V.This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(http://***/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).

Background: As a promising biomarker of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-Ⅱ(PIVKA-Ⅱ) has been studied extensively. However, its diagnostic capability varies across HCC studies. This study aimed to compare the performance of PIVKA-Ⅱ with alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) in the diagnosis of HCC. Data sources: A systematic literature search was conducted to identify the studies from MEDLINE, Embase and Cochrane Library Databases, which were published up to December 20, 2017 to compare the diagnostic capability of PIVKA-Ⅱ and AFP for HCC. The data were pooled using random effects model. Pooled sensitivity and specificity were calculated. Summary receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC) was employed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of each marker. Results: Thirty-one studies were included. The pooled sensitivity(95% CI) of PIVKA-Ⅱ and AFP was 0.66(0.65–0.68) and 0.66(0.65–0.67), respectively in diagnosis of HCC; and the corresponding pooled specificity(95% CI) was 0.89(0.88–0.90) and 0.84(0.83–0.85), respectively. The area under the ROC curve(AUC) of PIVKA-Ⅱ and AFP was 0.856(0.817–0.895) and 0.770(0.728–0.811), respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that PIVKA-Ⅱ was superior to AFP in terms of the AUC for both small HCC( < 3 cm) [0.863(0.825–0.901) vs 0.717(0.658–0.776)] and large HCC( ≥ 3 cm) [0.854(0.811–0.897) vs 0.729(0.682–0.776)]; for American [0.926(0.897–0.955) vs 0.698(0.594–0.662)], European [0.772(0.743–0.801) vs 0.628(0.594–0.662)], Asian [0.838(0.812–0.864) vs 0.785(0.764–0.806)] and African [0.812(0.794–0.840) vs 0.721(0.675–0.767)] HCC patients; and for HBV-related [0.909(0.866–0.951) vs 0.714(0.673–0.755)] and mixed-etiology [0.847(0.821–0.873) vs 0.794(0.772–0.816)] HCC. Conclusion: This meta-analysis indicates that PIVKA-Ⅱ is better than AFP in terms of the accuracy for diagnosing HCC, regardless of tumor size, patient ethnic group, or HCC etiology.

Designing highly active and robust platinum-free electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction is vital for large-scale and efficient production of hydrogen through electrochemical water splitting.Here,we report nonprecious intermetallic Cu_(5)Zr clusters that are in situ anchored on hierarchical nanoporous copper(NP Cu/Cu_(5)Zr)for efficient hydrogen evolution in alkaline medium.By virtue of hydroxygenated zirconium atoms activating their nearby Cu-Cu bridge sites with appropriate hydrogenbinding energy,the Cu_(5)Zr clusters have a high electrocatalytic activity toward the hydrogen evolution reaction.Associated with unique architecture featured with steady and bicontinuous nanoporous copper skeleton that facilitates electron transfer and electrolyte accessibility,the self-supported monolithic NP Cu/Cu_(5)Zr electrodes boost violent hydrogen gas release,realizing ultrahigh current density of 500mAcm^(-2) at a low potential of-280mV versus reversible hydrogen electrode,with exceptional stability in 1M KOH solution.The electrochemical properties outperform those of state-of-the-art nonprecious metal electrocatalysts and make them promising candidates as electrodes in water splitting devices.

开展陈化污泥渗透特性研究对于填埋库污泥脱水减量作业具有重要指导意义。选取了8种不同陈化条件下的污泥,开展了压缩排水试验,测定了陈化污泥上清液中可溶性有机物含量和类型,以及陈化污泥聚合体粒径分布与滤液的Zeta电位,并通过皮尔逊相关性分析研究了陈化污泥各物理化学特性间的相互作用。结果表明,随着上清液中可溶性有机物含量的减少、相对腐质化程度的增高与滤液Zeta电位绝对值的增大,陈化污泥的可渗透性增大。同时,当陈化污泥聚合体趋于稳定和粒径增大时,包裹在聚合体中的有机物不易释放到上清液中,陈化污泥可渗透性增大。另外,由于陈化环境的影响,陈化污泥总有机含量变化与上清液中有机物含量变化缺乏一致性,依据陈化污泥有机质含量判断渗透性会造成错误。最后,建立了陈化污泥比阻的影响模型,对于预处理过程中如何改善陈化污泥渗透性具有参考意义。
