Due to the tremendous amount of high-resolution measurement information,array laterolog is widely used in evaluations of deviated anisotropic ***,the precision of a complementary numerical simulation should be improved as high as the core of fine-scale reservoir ***,the 3D finite element method(3D-FEM)is presented to simulate the array laterolog ***,a downscaled physical simulation system is introduced to validate and calibrate the precision of the ***,the size of the downscaled system is determined by ***,the surrounding and investigated beds are represented by a sodium chloride solution and planks soaked in solution,***,a half-space measurement scheme is presented to improve the experimental ***,the corresponding sensitivity function and separation factor are established to analyze the effects of the formation anisotro py and dipping angle on the array laterolog *** numerical and experimental results indicate that the half-space method is practical,and the mean relative error between the numerical and experimental results is less than 5%,which indicates that the numerical simulation is *** the proposed approach,the reversal angle of array laterolog response curves in anisotropic formations can be observed,and this range is determined to be 50°-62°.

A new deep-reading look-ahead method in electromagnetic loggingwhile-drilling using the scattered electric field from magnetic dipole antennas

This paper presents a new deep-reading logging-while-drilling electromagnetic(EM)logging method to detect bed boundaries ahead of *** all existing EM logging approaches,the new method is based on the scattered electric field radiated by a magnetic dipole *** analyzing the characteristics of electric tensor responses in layered formations,optimal look-ahead electric component is *** selected scattered field contributes to a large portion of the total field and is strongly sensitive to the boundary *** measured voltage from the scattered electric component can be tens of times larger than that from the scattered magnetic fields and it attenuates ***,the detection capability improves significantly.A coaxial open-loop half-circle antenna is then proposed to measure the electric field in logging while drilling environment.A practical tool implementation equipped with two tilted close-loop antennas and two open-loop antennas is further developed for look-ahead *** results demonstrate that the detection depth of the new look-ahead tool can be up to 40 m under favorable *** with current look-ahead logging tools,the new method not only significantly shortens the tool size,but also can recognize the boundary position and azimuth.

Numerical simulation of high-resolution azimuthal resistivity laterolog response in fractured reservoirs

The high-resolution azimuthal resistivity laterolog response in a fractured formation was numerically simulated using a three-dimensional finite element method. Simulation results show that the azimuthal resistivity is determined by fracture dipping as well as dipping direction, while the amplitude differences between deep and shallow laterolog resistivities are mainly controlled by the former. A linear relationship exists between the corrected apparent conductivities and fracture aperture. With the same fracture aperture, the deep and shallow laterolog resistivities present small values with negative separations for low-angle fractures, while azimuthal resistivities have large variations with positive separations for high-angle fractures that intersect the borehole. For dipping fractures, the variation of the azimuthal resistivity becomes larger when the fracture aperture increases. In addition, for high-angle fractures far from the borehole, a negative separation between the deep and shallow resistivities exists when fracture aperture is large as well as high resistivity contrast exists between bedrock and fracture fluid. The decreasing amplitude of dual laterolog resistivity can indicate the aperture of low-angle fractures, and the variation of the deep azimuthal resistivity can give information of the aperture of high-angle fractures and their position relative to the borehole.

We present systematic investigations on the physics,detection performance and inversion of logging-while-drilling extradeep azimuthal resistivity measurements(EDARM).First,the definitions of EDRAM measurements are discussed,followed by the derivation of the attenuation and phase-shift geometrical factors to illustrate the relative contributions of formation units to the observed ***,a new definition of detection depth,which considers the uncertainty of inversion results caused by the data noise,is proposed to quantify the detection capability of ED ***,the B ayesian theory associated with Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling is introduced for fast processing of EDARM *** results show that ED ARM is capable of detecting the azimuth and distance of remote bed boundaries,and the detection capability increases with increasing spacing and resistivity *** EDARM tool can accommodate a large range of formation resistivity and is able to provide the resistivity anisotropy at arbitrary relative dipping *** addition,multiple bed boundaries and reservoir images near the borehole are readily obtained by using the Bayesian inversion.

Electromagnetic logging while drilling(LWD)is one of the key technologies of the geosteering and formation evaluation for high-angle and horizontal *** this paper,we solve the dipole source-generated magnetic/electric fields in 2D formations efficiently by the 2.5D finite diff erence ***,by leveraging the field’s rapid attenuation in spectral domain,we propose truncated Gauss–Hermite quadrature,which is several tens of times faster than traditional inverse fast Fourier *** applying the algorithm to the LWD modeling under complex formations,e.g.,folds,fault and sandstone pinch-outs,we analyze the feasibility of the dimension reduction from 2D to *** the formations with smooth lateral changes,like folds,the simplified 1D model’s results agree well with the true responses,which indicate that the 1D simplification with sliding window is ***,for the formation structures with drastic rock properties changes and sharp boundaries,for instance,faults and sandstone pinch-outs,the simplified 1D model will lead to large errors and,therefore,2.5D algorithms should be applied to ensure the accuracy.

BACKGROUND Postoperative acute kidney injury(AKI) is a complex pathological process involved intrarenal and systemic inflammation caused by renal hypoperfusion, nephrotoxic drugs and urinary obstruction. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR) is a marker of inflammation reflecting the progress of many diseases. However, whether NLR at admission can predict the occurrence of AKI after surgery in the intensive care unit(ICU) remains *** To clarify the relationship between NLR and the occurrence of AKI in patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery in the *** A retrospective analysis of 282 patients receiving surgical ICU care after gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery in our hospital from December 2014 to December 2018 was *** Postoperative AKI occurred in 84 patients(29.79%) in this cohort. NLR by the multivariate analysis was an independent risk factor for occurrence of postoperative AKI in patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery in the ICU. In this cohort, receiver operating characteristic curves of AKI occurrence showed that the optimal cut-off value of NLR was 8.380. NLR was found to be significantly correlated with the white blood cell count, neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, arterial lactate and dialysis(P rence in patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery in ICU. NLR should be included in the routine assessment of AKI occurrence.

Effect of low-dose aspirin administration on long-term survival of cirrhotic patients after splenectomy: A retrospective single-center study

BACKGROUND Cirrhosis is a major risk factor for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Portal vein thrombosis is not uncommon after splenectomy in cirrhotic patients, and many such patients take oral anticoagulants including aspirin. However, the long-term impact of postoperative aspirin on cirrhotic patients after splenectomy remains unknown. AIM The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of postoperative long-term low-dose aspirin administration on the development of HCC and longterm survival of cirrhotic patients after splenectomy. METHODS The clinical data of 264 adult patients with viral hepatitis-related cirrhosis who underwent splenectomy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University from January 2000 to December 2014 were analyzed retrospectively. Among these patients, 59 who started taking 100 mg/d aspirin within seven days were enrolled in the aspirin group. The incidence of HCC and overall survival were *** During follow-up, 41 (15.53%) patients developed HCC and 37 (14.02%) died due to end-stage liver diseases or other serious complications. Postoperative longterm low-dose aspirin therapy reduced the incidence of HCC from 19.02% to 3.40% after splenectomy (log-rank test, P=0.028). Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that not undertaking postoperative long-term low-dose aspirin therapy [odds ratio (OR)=6.211, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.142-27.324, P=0.016] was the only independent risk factor for the development of HCC. Similarly, patients in the aspirin group survived longer than those in the control group (log-rank test, P=0.041). Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that the only factor that independently associated with improved overall survival was postoperative long-term low-dose aspirin therapy [OR = 0.218, 95%CI: 0.049- 0.960, P=0.044]. Vascular embolization treatment, a minimally invasive surgery for various blood vessel-related conditions, has emerged as a crucial method in treating such as hemorrhage, arteriovenous malformation, aneurysms, and hypervascular tumors. Liquid embolic agents are gaining prominence due to their distinct advantage in infiltrating distal regions, expanding the scope of embolization beyond the reach of solid agents. Recent strides in biomaterials and technologies have spurred the development of novel liquid embolic agents, addressing challenges posed by traditional options. This mini-review provides a concise overview of the recent progress in water-based liquid embolic agents, highlighting their potential to overcome limitations associated with current embolic materials. By presenting selected research outcomes, we illuminate advancements that enhance the efficacy of liquid embolic agents. Furthermore, the review outlines essential properties for effective liquid embolic agents, offering insights for future developments in this field.
