Appendicitis combined with Meckel’s diverticulum obstruction, perforation, and inflammation in children: Three case reports

BACKGROUND Meckel’s diverticulum is a common congenital malformation of the small intestine,with the three most common complications being obstruction,per-foration,and *** date,only a few cases have been reported *** children,the clinical symptoms are similar to *** most of the imaging features are nonspecific,the preoperative diagnosis is not *** addition,the clinical characteristics are highly similar to pediatric acute appendicitis,thus special attention is necessary to distinguish Meckel’s diver-ticulum from pediatric *** with poor disease control should undergo laparoscopic exploration to avoid serious complications,including intestinal necrosis,intestinal perforation and gastrointestinal *** SUMMARY This report presents three cases of appendicitis in children combined with intestinal obstruction,which was caused by fibrous bands(ligaments)arising from the top part of Meckel's diverticulum,diverticular perforation,and diver-ticular *** three patients,aged 11-12 years,had acute appendicitis as their initial clinical *** were treated by laparoscopic surgery with a favorable outcome.A complete dataset including clinical presentation,dia-gnostic imaging,surgical information,and histopathologic findings was also *** Preoperative diagnosis of Meckel’s diverticulum and its complications is challenging because its clinical signs and complications are similar to those of appendicitis in *** combined with laparotomy is useful for diagnosis and treatment.

Predictive factors of epiretinal membrane in complicated rhegmatogenous retinal detachment tamponaded with silicone oil

AIM:To determine the incidence and predictive factors for epiretinal membrane(ERM)formation in eyes with complicated primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD)tamponaded with silicone oil(SO).METHODS:This retrospective case-control study included 141 consecutive patients with(51 eyes)and without(90 eyes)ERM formation after primary pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)and SO tamponade for complicated *** risk factors for ERM were assessed using logistic regression ***:The prevalence of postoperative ERM was 36.2%(51/141).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the risk factors for ERM in SO-tamponaded eyes included preoperative proliferative vitreoretinopathy[PVR;odds ratio(OR),2.578;95%confidence interval(CI)1.580–4.205,P<0.001],preoperative choroidal detachment(OR,4.454;95%CI 1.369–14.498,P=0.013),and photocoagulation energy(OR,2.700;95%CI 1.047–6.962,P=0.040).The duration of the preoperative symptoms,intraocular SO tamponade time,giant retinal tear,preoperative vitreous hemorrhage,preoperative bestcorrected visual acuity,number of breaks,quadrants of RRD,axial length,and photocoagulation points were not predictive factors for ERM ***:Preoperative PVR,choroidal detachment,and photocoagulation energy are risk factors of ERM formation after complicated RRD *** ophthalmic care as well as patient education are necessary for such patients with risk factors.

Stretchable electronics that monitor joint activity and treat diseases based on liquid metal could be used in the development of healthcare *** devices can be seamlessly integrated with human ***,most high-precision microstructures and complex patterns are difficult to fabricate due to the limitations of conventional fabrication solutions,resulting in suboptimal performance under practical ***,a liquid-metal stretchable system utilizing natural leaf veins was reported as microstructures,which was based on a biomimetic concept and utilized an all-solution process for the preparation of complex *** systems are ultra-high tensile(800%tensile strain),environmentally stable(20 days)and mechanically durable(300-cycle).The system can accurately recognize the wearer's finger bending level as well as simple gesture *** the same time,the system acts as a wearable heater,which can realize the fast heating behavior of heating up to 50℃in 3 min under the human body-safe voltage(1.5 V).The tensile stability is demonstrated by the heterogeneous integration of lasers(405 nm)with the system interconnects for a stretchable and wearable light source.

Obstructive jaundice(OJ)is a common problem in daily clinical ***,completely understanding the pathophysiological changes in OJ remains a challenge for planning current and future *** effects of OJ are widespread,affecting the biliary tree,hepatic cells,liver function,and causing systemic *** lack of bile in the intestine,destruction of the intestinal mucosal barrier,and increased absorption of endotoxins can lead to endotoxemia,production of proinflammatory cytokines,and induce systemic inflammatory response syndrome,ultimately leading to multiple organ dysfunction *** management of OJ includes adequate water supply and electrolyte replacement,nutritional support,preventive antibiotics,pain relief,and itching *** surgical treatment of OJ depends on the cause,location,and severity of the *** drainage,surgery,and endoscopic intervention are potential treatment options depending on the patient's *** addition to modern medical treatments,Traditional Chinese medicine may offer therapeutic benefits for OJ.A comprehensive search was conducted on PubMed for relevant articles published up to August *** review discusses in detail the pathophysiological changes associated with OJ and presents effective strategies for managing the condition.

The High-energy Fragment Separator(HFRS),which is currently under construction,is a leading international radioactive beam *** sets of position-sensitive twin time projection chamber(TPC)detectors are distributed on HFRS for particle identification and beam *** twin TPCs'readout electronics system operates in a trigger-less mode due to its high counting rate,leading to a challenge of handling large amounts of *** address this problem,we introduced an event-building *** algorithm employs a hierarchical processing strategy to compress data during transmission and *** addition,it reconstructs twin TPCs'events online and stores only the reconstructed particle information,which significantly reduces the burden on data transmission and storage *** studies demonstrated that the algorithm accurately matches twin TPCs'events and reduces more than 98%of the data volume at a counting rate of 500 kHz/channel.

Mechanism and control of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel during cooling process after hot rolling

After cooling in the hot rolling process,the metallographic structure of microalloyed dual-phase steel is nonuniform along the rolling direction,while the thickness fluctuation of microalloyed dual-phase steel with a nonuniform metallographic structure will occur during cold *** mechanism of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steels was studied during the cooling process after hot rolling,and the nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel was regulated during the cooling process after hot rolling through process ***,the empirical equation of phase transformation temperature was measured by a dilatometer considering thermal ***,the phase field and temperature field of laminar cooling process were calculated to provide initial boundary conditions for the finite element *** that,the coupling finite element model of the temperature phase transformation of the strip steel in coiling transportation process was *** simulation results show that the different thermal contact conditions of the microalloyed dual-phase steel during coil transportation lead to uneven cooling of the coil,which leads to nonuniform transformation of the coil along the rolling *** addition,by prolonging the time interval from coiling to unloading,the phenomenon of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel can be effectively *** simulation results are applied to industrial *** application results show that prolonging the time interval from coiling to unloading can effectively improve the nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel in the cooling process after hot rolling.
