Dynamic foraging strategy adaptation to heterogeneous environments contributes to social aggregation in snub-nosed monkeys

Controlled synthesis of multi-shelled transition metal oxide hollow structures through one-pot solution route

As one type of promising candidates for environmental and energy-related systems, multi-shelled transition metal oxide hollow structures （MS-TMOHSs） have drawn great scientific and technical interest in the past few years. This article highlights recent advances in one-pot solution synthesis of MS- TMOHSs. We begin it with an overview of synthetic strategies that have been exploited to achieve these peculiar structures. We then focus on one-pot solution approaches in the following four sections： i） soft templates directed growth; ii） Ostwald ripening; iii） controlled etching; and iv） gas bubble assisted growth. After giving a brief discussion on the unique properties and applications of these multi-shelled hollow structures, we conclude this review with the general challenges and the potential future directions of this excitin~ area of research.

Effect of Water Vapor Absorption on Measurements of Atmospheric Nitrate Radical by LP-DOAS

During the measurement of atmospheric nitrate radical by long-path differential optical absorption spectroscopy, water vapor strong absorption could affect the measurement of nitrate radical and detection limits of system. Under the tropospheric condition, the optical density of water vapor absorption is non-linearly dependent on column density. An effective method was developed to eliminate the effect of water vapor absorption. Reference spectra of water vapor based on the daytime atmospheric absorption spectra, when fitted together with change of cross section with water vapor column densities, gave a more accurate fitting of water vapor absorptions, thus its effect on the measurements of nitrate radical could be restricted to a minimum and detection limits of system reached 3.6 ppt. The modified method was applied during an intensive field campaign in the Pearl River Delta, China. The NO3 concentration in polluted air masses varied from 3.6 ppt to 82.5 ppt with an average level of 23.6±1.8 ppt.

Two dimethylamino-carbaldehyde derivatives with differentπ-bridge lengths were prepared,and their transient optical properties and photophysical mechanisms were investigated by transient absorption spectroscopy and Z-scan *** to the difference in molecular structures,the two compounds exhibit different populations of locally excited states and,therefore,they also produce different transient absorption *** photoexcitation,both molecular materials exhibit a wide excited state absorption band from 450 nm to 1000 ***,the excited state lifetimes are dramatically different,2 ns and 100 ps,for the two molecules.A figure of merit greater than 2 at the wavelength of1000 nm is *** results show that modulating the population of the locally excited states in this type of molecule can be a promising approach for obtaining optical switching and solar cell materials.

Effectiveness of urban distributed runoff model for discharge and water depth calculation in urban drainage pipe networks

Effective urban land-use re-planning and the strategic arrangement of drainage pipe networks can significantly enhance urban flood defense *** at reducing the potential risks of urban flooding,this paper presents a straightforward and efficient approach to an urban distributed runoff model(UDRM).The model is developed to quantify the discharge and water depth within urban drainage pipe networks under varying rainfall intensities and land-use *** Nash efficiency coefficient of UDRM exceeds 0.9,which indicates its high computational efficiency and potential benefit in predicting urban *** prediction of drainage conditions under both current and re-planned land-use types is achieved by adopting different flood recurrence *** findings reveal that the re-planned land-use strategies could effectively diminish flood risk upstream of the drainage pipe network across 20-year and 50-year flood recurrence ***,in the case of extreme rainfall events(a 100-year flood recurrence),the re-planned land-use approach fell short of fulfilling the requirements necessary for flood disaster *** these instances,the adoption of larger-diameter drainage pipes becomes an essential requisite to satisfy drainage ***,the proposed UDRM effectively combines land-use information with pipeline data to give practical suggestions for pipeline modification and land-use optimization to combat urban ***,this methodology warrants further promotion in the field of urban re-planning.

Differential bonding behaviors of sodium/potassium-ion storage in sawdust waste carbon derivatives

Sodium-ion batteries(SIBs) and potassium-ion batteries(PIBs) are the most promising alternatives to lithium-ion batteries, and thus have drawn intensive research attention. Porous carbon materials from different precursors have been widely used as anode materials owing to their compatible storage effectiveness of both larger radii sodium and potassium ions. However, the differential bonding behaviors of Na and K ions with porous carbon-based anode are the significant one worth investigating, which could provide a clean picture of alkali ions storage mechanism. Therefore, in this work, we prepare a porous carbon network derived from sawdust(SDC) wastes, to further analyze the differences on sodium and potassium ions storage behaviors in terms of bond-forming process. It is found that, as-prepared SDC anodes could deliver stable sodium and potassium storage capacities, however, there are notable distinctions in terms of electrochemical behaviors and diffusion processes. By virtue of ex-situ XRD and Raman spectroscopy, the phase transition reaction of potassium ions could be well-observed, and the results shows that the multiple intercalated compounds was formed in SDC network during ions insertion, further resulting in slower diffusion kinetics and larger resistance compared to non-bonded process of sodium ions storage. This study provides more insights into the differences between sodium and potassium ions storage, as well as the energy storage mechanism of porous carbon as anodes for secondary batteries.

Risk Factor Analyses for the Return of Spontaneous Circulation in the Asphyxiation Cardiac Arrest Porcine Model

Background： Animal models of asphyxiation cardiac arrest （ACA） are frequently used in basic research to mirror the clinical course of cardiac arrest （CA）. The rates of the return of spontaneous circulation （ROSC） inACA animal models are lower than those from studies that have utilized ventricular fibrillation （VF） animal models. The purpose of this study was to characterize the factors associated with the ROSC in the ACA porcine model. Methods： Forty-eight healthy miniature pigs underwent endotracheal tube clamping to induce CA. Once induced, CA was maintained untreated for a period of 8 min. Two minutes following the initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation （CPR）, defibrillation was attempted until ROSC was achieved or the animal died. To assess the factors associated with ROSC in this CA model, logistic regression analyses were performed to analyze gender, the time of preparation, the amplitude spectrum area （AMSA） from the beginning of CPR and the pH at the beginning of CPR. A receiver-operating characteristic （ROC） curve was used to evaluate the predictive value ofAMSA for ROSC. Results： ROSC was only 52.1% successful in this ACA porcine model. The multivariate logistic regression analyses revealed that ROSC significantly depended on the time of preparation, AMSA at the beginning of CPR and pH at the beginning of CPR. The area under the ROC curve in for AMSA at the beginning of CPR was 0.878 successful in predicting ROSC （95% confidence intervals： 0.773-0.983）, and the optimum cut-offvalue was 15.62 （specificity 95.7% and sensitivity 80.0%）. Conclusions： The time of preparation, AMSA and the pH at the beginning of CPR were associated with ROSC in this ACA porcine model. AMSA also predicted the likelihood of ROSC in this ACA animal model.
