Interleukin 17A deficiency alleviates neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment in an experimental model of diabetic encephalopathy

Interleukin 17A(IL-17A)was previously shown to be a key pro-inflammatory factor in diabetes mellitus and associated complications.However,the role of IL-17A in diabetic encephalopathy remains poorly understood.In this study,we established a mouse model of diabetic encephalopathy that was deficient in IL-17A by crossing Il17a-/-mice with spontaneously diabetic Ins2^(Akita)(Akita)mice.Blood glucose levels and body weights were monitored from 2-32 weeks of age.When mice were 32 weeks of age,behavioral tests were performed,including a novel object recognition test for assessing short-term memory and learning and a Morris water maze test for evaluating hippocampus-dependent spatial learning and memory.IL-17A levels in the serum,cerebrospinal fluid,and hippocampus were detected with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction.Moreover,proteins related to cognitive dysfunction(amyloid precursor protein,β-amyloid cleavage enzyme 1,p-tau,and tau),apoptosis(caspase-3 and-9),inflammation(inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase 2),and occludin were detected by western blot assays.Pro-inflammatory cytokines including tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin-1β,and interferon-γin serum and hippocampal tissues were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.Microglial activation and hippocampal neuronal apoptosis were detected by immunofluorescent staining.Compared with that in wild-type mice,mice with diabetic encephalopathy had higher IL-17A levels in the serum,cerebrospinal fluid,and hippocampus;downregulation of occludin expression;lower cognitive ability;greater loss of hippocampal neurons;increased microglial activation;and higher expression of inflammatory factors in the serum and hippocampus.IL-17A knockout attenuated the abovementioned changes in mice with diabetic encephalopathy.These findings suggest that IL-17A participates in the pathological process of diabetic encephalopathy.Furthermore,IL-17A deficiency reduces diabetic encephalopathy-mediated neuroinflammati

Potential hydraulic connectivity of coal mine aquifers based on statistical analysis of hydrogeochemistry

Mining activities interfere with the natural groundwater chemical environment,which may lead to hydrogeochemical changes of aquifers and mine water inrush disasters.This study analyzed the hydrochemical compositions of 80 water samples in three aquifers and developed a water source identification model to explore the control factors and potential hydraulic connection of groundwater chemistry in a coal mine.The results showed that the hydrochemical types of the three aquifers were different.The main hydrochemical compositions of the loose-layer,coal-bearing,and limestone aquifers were HCO_(3)·Cl-Na,SO_(4)·HCO_(3)-Na,and SO_(4)-Na·Ca,respectively.The correlation,Unmix,and factor an-alyses showed that the hydrochemical composition of groundwater was controlled by the dissolution of soluble minerals(such as calcite,dolomite,gypsum,and halite)and the weathering of silicate minerals.The factor score plot combined with Q-mode cluster analysis demon-strated no remarkable hydraulic connection among the three aquifers in the study area.The water source identification model effectively identified the source of inrush water.Moreover,the mixing ratio model rationally quantified the contributions of the three aquifers to inrush water.

Qi-yi Xing(Chi-yi Hsing,November 24th,1911–November 4th,2002)(Fig.1)was one of the remarkable scientist and educators in China.He was a pioneer for Chinese Organic Chemistry development,an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,and a professor at the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering in Peking University.He was one of the leaders of the synthetic crystalline bovine insulin project in China and a person of outstanding talent in the teaching of organic chemistry.On the occasion of 110th anniversary of the establishment of the chemistry department at Peking University,it is also Professor Xing’s 110th birthday,and we pay tribute to his lifelong commitment to the development of organic chemistry,especially protein synthesis,and his teaching style.

A mini-review of MXene porous films:Preparation,mechanism and application

MXene presents excellent electrical conductivity,abundant surface functional groups and wonderful filmforming performance,but the lamellar layers are prone to self-stacking during film formation,which will reduce the loss of electromagnetic waves,hinder ion transmission,and limit the effective load of other functional materials.The construction of the porous structure can effectively solve the self-stacking problem of MXene sheets.This article reviews the research progress of MXene porous films for electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding,lithium/sodium ion batteries,pseudocapacitors,and biomedical science applications.It focuses on the preparation methods of MXene porous films,and discusses the pore-forming mechanism of the porous structure formed by different preparation methods and the internal relationship between the“microstructure-macroscopic performance”of the MXene porous films,points out the key scientific and technical bottlenecks that need to be solved urgently in the preparation and application of the MXene porous films.It is hoped to provide certain guidance for the design,preparation,optimization,industrial application,and development of MXene porous films.

Global Cauchy Problem for a Leray-α Model

In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for the 3D Leray-α model, introduced by Cheskidov et al.[11]. We obtain the global solution for the 3D Leray-α model in the fractional index Sobolev space, and prove that the 3D Leray-α model reduces to the homogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations as α↓0＋, and the solution of the 3D Leray-α model will converge to the weak solution of the corresponding Navier-Stokes equations.

Evolution of vortex structure around a wall-mounted rough hemisphere

In this paper,the large eddy simulation(LES)method is used to calculate Reynolds numbers the range in the range of 3000–30000(based on the diameter of the hemisphere D),and then the statistical analysis method is used to study the influence of Re on the characteristics of the flow field around the rough hemisphere and the evolution law of the tail vortex.The effect of the Reynolds number on the structure of the rough hemisphere flow field and the evolution of vortex structure is studied by vorticity distribution,POD method,and correlation analysis.It can be observed that with the increase of Reynolds number,the shear in the recirculating region of the rough hemisphere is enhanced,the large-scale structure is reduced,the small-scale structure is increased,and the angle between the hairpin vortex and the wall is reduced.λ_(ci)vortex identification and the Q-criterion are used to capture the evolution of a periodic vortex structure.Q-criterion gives the three-dimensional vortex structure behind the hemispherical flow.It is found that the horseshoe vortex and arch vortex generated by the incoming flow after passing through the hemisphere will interact with the wall surface to form a hairpin vortex,and the hairpin vortex structure will continue to evolve downstream to form a new vortex structure.

民国时期,在西藏地方与中央政府关系较为困难的背景下,由汉藏民间僧俗大众掀起,并得到历届民国政府支持的汉藏佛教文化交流活动迅速发展,不仅推进了汉藏佛教界的交流与互动,而且有助于加强西藏与内地各族民众的交流与了解,为中华民族多元一体格局的形成发展奠定了重要的文化、心理基础,推动了藏传佛教中国化的历史进程。在历届民国政府支持下,以九世班禅、诺那呼图克图、喜饶嘉措等为代表的藏传佛教僧人在内地弘法讲经、传播藏传佛教及西藏文化,传播的人群范围不再局限于以往的皇室、高官等阶层,而是拓展至内地更广大的各阶层民众。传统的藏传佛教法会具有了团结民众、抵御日本侵略等时代意涵。1936年,国民政府制定颁布《喇嘛转世办法》,沿袭清代治理西藏之策,以国家法律管理藏传佛教活佛转世事宜。同年,国民政府还颁布《补助汉藏僧侣游学规则》。这些政策措施极大地促进了汉藏佛教文化交流,加强了西藏与内地的联系。

A novel surgical technique of internal limiting membrane peeling for high myopic foveoschisis:a wide range of whole piece consecutive peeling without preservation of epi-fovea

AIM:To demonstrate an improved surgical technique of whole piece consecutive internal limiting membrane(ILM) peeling without preservation of the epi-fovea to treat high myopic foveoschisis(MF).METHODS:A 23-gauge 3-port pars plana vitrectomy was performed on 16 patients with high MF.A parallel arc line along the vascular arcades was scraped out with a curved membrane scraper DSP.Next,an ILM forceps was used to catch hold of the incisal edge of the ILM flap,and the action of releasing and separating was subsequently taken toward the direction of the macular fovea.Next,the ILM forceps was used to grasp the released area,and the whole area coherent ILM peeling covering the macular fovea was implemented thereafter.Finally,the ILM was folded backwards and peeled off in the arc direction.RESULTS:At the final visit,the average central macular thickness decreased remarkably from 423.76±177.67 to 178.24±66.21 μm.The mean logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution best-corrected visual acuity of 1.37±0.59 was significantly alleviated to 0.74±0.59.CONCLUSION:The wide range of whole piece consecutive ILM peeling without preservation of the epifovea is proven to be effective and significantly reduced the occurrence of retinal tear and macular hole.

Different roles of capsule endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy in obscure small intestinal diseases

AIM: To compare the roles of capsule endoscopy(CE)and double-balloon enteroscopy(DBE) in the diagnosis of obscure small bowel diseases.METHODS: From June 2009 to December 2014, 88 patients were included in this study; the patients had undergone gastroscopy, colonoscopy, radiological small intestinal barium meal, abdominal computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging scan and mesenteric angiography, but their diagnoses were still unclear. The patients with gastrointestinal obstructions,fistulas, strictures, or cardiac pacemakers, as well as pregnant women, and individuals who could not accept the capsule-retention or capsule-removal surgery were excluded. Patients with heart, lung and other vital organ failure diseases were also excluded. Everyone involved in this study had undergone CE and DBE. The results were divided into:(1) the definite diagnosis(the diagnosis was confirmed at least by one of the biopsy,surgery, pathology or the drug treatment effects with follow-up for at least 3 mo);(2) the possible diagnosis(a possible diagnosis was suggested by CE or DBE,but not confirmed by the biopsy, surgery or follow-up drug treatment effects); and(3) the unclear diagnosis(no exact causes were provided by CE and DBE for the disease). The detection rate and the diagnostic yield of the two methods were compared. The differencein the etiologies between CE and DBE was estimated,and the different possible etiologies caused by the age groups were also investigated.RESULTS: CE exhibited a better trend than DBE for diagnosing scattered small ulcers(P = 0.242, Fisher's test), and small vascular malformations(χ 2 = 1.810,P = 0.179, Pearson χ 2 test), but with no significant differences, possible due to few cases. However,DBE was better than CE for larger tumors(P =0.018, Fisher's test) and for diverticular lesions with bleeding ulcers(P = 0.005, Fisher's test). Spatial structural characteristics of the Deda ancient landslide in the eastern Tibetan Plateau:Insights from Audio-frequency Magnetotellurics and the Microtremor Survey Method

It is of crucial importance to investigate the spatial structures of ancient landslides in the eastern Tibetan Plateau’s alpine canyons as they could provide valuable insights into the evolutionary history of the landslides and indicate the potential for future reactivation.This study examines the Deda ancient landslide,situated in the Chalong-ranbu fault zone,where creep deformation suggests a complex underground structure.By integrating remote sensing,field surveys,Audio-frequency Magnetotellurics(AMT),and Microtremor Survey Method(MSM)techniques,along with engineering geological drilling for validation,to uncover the landslide’s spatial feature s.The research indicates that a fault is developed in the upper part of the Deda ancient landslide,and the gully divides it into Deda landslide accumulation zoneⅠand Deda landslide accumulation zoneⅡin space.The distinctive geological characteristics detectable by MSM in the shallow subsurface and by AMT in deeper layers.The findings include the identification of two sliding zones in the Deda I landslide,the shallow sliding zone(DD-I-S1)depth is approximately 20 m,and the deep sliding zone(DD-I-S2)depth is 36.2-49.9 m.The sliding zone(DD-Ⅱ-S1)depth of the DedaⅡlandslide is 37.6-43.1 m.A novel MSM-based method for sliding zone identification is proposed,achieving less than 5%discrepancy in depth determination when compared with drilling data.These results provide a valuable reference for the spatial structural analysis of large-deepseated landslides in geologically complex regions like the eastern Tibetan Plateau.
