Warm ischemia time and elevated serum uric acid are associated with metabolic syndrome after liver transplantation with donation after cardiac death

AIM To describe the prevalence of posttransplant metabolic syndrome(PTMS) after donation after cardiac death(DCD) liver transplantation(LT) and the pre-and postoperative risk *** One hundred and forty-seven subjects who underwent DCD LT from January 2012 to February 2016 were enrolled in this study. The demographics and the clinical characteristics of pre-and post-transplantation were collected for both recipients and donors. PTMS was defined according to the 2004 Adult Treatment Panel-Ⅲ criteria. All subjects were followed monthly for the initial 6 mo after discharge, and then, every 3 mo for 2 years. The subjects were followed every 6 mo or as required after 2 years *** The prevalence of PTMS after DCD donor orthotopic LT was 20/147(13.6%). Recipient's body mass index(P = 0.024), warm ischemia time(WIT)(P = 0.045), and posttransplant hyperuricemia(P = 0.001) were significantly associated with PTMS. The change in serum uric acid levels in PTMS patients was significantly higher than that in non-PTMS patients(P < 0.001). After the 1 s t mo, the level of serum uric acid of PTMS patients rose continually over a period, while it was unaltered in non-PTMS patients. After transplantation, the level of serum uric acid in PTMS patients was not associated with renal *** PTMS could occur at early stage after DCD LT with growing morbidity with the passage of time. WIT and post-LT hyperuricemia are associated with the prevalence of PTMS. An increased serum uric acid level is highly associated with PTMS and could act as a serum marker in this disease.

Hypothermic machine perfusion with metformin-University of Wisconsin solution for ex vivo preservation of standard and marginal liver grafts in a rat model

AIM To compare the effect of University of Wisconsin(UW) solution with or without metformin, an AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK) activator, for preserving standard and marginal liver grafts of young and aged rats ex vivo by hypothermic machine perfusion(HMP).METHODS Eighteen young(4 mo old) and 18 aged(17 mo old)healthy male SD rats were selected and randomly divided into three groups: control group, UW solution perfusion group(UWP), and UW solution with metformin perfusion group(MUWP). Aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), lactate dehydrogenase(LDH), interleukin-18(IL-18), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α) in the perfused liquid were tested. The expression levels of AMPK and endothelial nitric oxide synthase(e NOS) in liver sinusoidal endothelial cells were also ***, microscopic evaluation of the harvested perfused liver tissue samples was done. RESULTS AST, ALT, LDH, IL-18 and TNF-α levels in the young and aged liver-perfused liquid were, respectively,significantly lower in the MUWP group than in the UWP group(P < 0.05), but no significant differences were found between the young and aged MUWP *** increased the expression of AMPK and e NOS protein levels, and promoted the extracellular release of nitric oxide through activation of the AMPK-e NOS mediated pathway. Histological examination revealed that in the MUWP group, the extent of liver cells and tissue damage was significantly reduced compared with the UWP *** The addition of metformin to the UW preservative solution for ex vivo HMP can reduce rat liver injury during cold ischemia, with significant protective effects on livers, especially of aged rats.

Dip2a regulates stress susceptibility in the basolateral amygdala

Dysregulation of neurotransmitter metabolism in the central nervous system contributes to mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and post–traumatic stress disorder. Monoamines and amino acids are important types of neurotransmitters. Our previous results have shown that disco-interacting protein 2 homolog A(Dip2a) knockout mice exhibit brain development disorders and abnormal amino acid metabolism in serum. This suggests that DIP2A is involved in the metabolism of amino acid–associated neurotransmitters. Therefore, we performed targeted neurotransmitter metabolomics analysis and found that Dip2a deficiency caused abnormal metabolism of tryptophan and thyroxine in the basolateral amygdala and medial prefrontal cortex. In addition, acute restraint stress induced a decrease in 5-hydroxytryptamine in the basolateral amygdala. Additionally, Dip2a was abundantly expressed in excitatory neurons of the basolateral amygdala, and deletion of Dip2a in these neurons resulted in hopelessness-like behavior in the tail suspension test. Altogether, these findings demonstrate that DIP2A in the basolateral amygdala may be involved in the regulation of stress susceptibility. This provides critical evidence implicating a role of DIP2A in affective disorders.

Low-frequency waves in magnetic reconnection

The characteristics of low-frequency waves in magnetic reconnection are studied using two-dimensional hybrid simulation code. In a coordinate system moving with fluid,the time series of a magnetic field perpendicular to the magnetic reconnection plane,By, is transformed into the power spectrum via fast Fourier transformation,while the wave propagation direction and polarization are determined by minimum variance analysis of the electric *** results show that low-frequency Alfvén ion-cyclotron waves dominate the reconnection *** waves have frequencies 0-1Ωp(where Ωp is the local proton gyro frequency)and all are left-handed circularly *** these waves,large-amplitude turbulence,with frequencies of 0-0.6Ωp and isotropic propagation,dominates the outflow *** can cause the reversal of By in the quadrupole *** the inflow regions, dominant waves,propagating mainly parallel to the ambient magnetic field,have higher frequencies and smaller *** frequency of the main peak of wave energy is usually higher than 0.5Ωp.

Larva fish assemblage structure in three-dimensional floating wetlands and non-floating wetlands in the Changjiang River estuary

Fish populations have declined in many estuarine and freshwater ecosystems in part due to the loss of habitat in recent *** lost habitat for larvae fish is a potential method for recovering larvae fish ***-dimensional artificial floating wetlands(AFWs)on which Phragmites australis was planted were experimentally deployed to recover the lost habitat in the Changjiang(Yangtze)River estuary from May to July *** AFW area was characterized by slow velocity,high transparency,low dissolved oxygen,and relatively constant water *** total individuals of larvae fish in the AFW area(12122 in total)was higher than that in the non-AFW area(1250 in total),and the densities of most larvae fish species were higher in the AFW habitat than in the non-AFW *** distributions of larvae fish species were positively influenced by habitat type because they were strongly related to the negative part of the first axis of the redundancy analysis,and Cyprinus carpio and Cyprinus auratus were inclined to habitat in the slow velocity and high transparency AFW habitat *** results indicate that larvae fish species are inclined to inhabit the AFW *** use of three-dimensional *** AFWs would be a potential method for enhancing the habitat of larvae fish in the degraded habitats along the estuary.

Analysis of Specialized Production of Transaction Services Based on Essential Services Quantity

The specialized production of e-commerce transaction systems is an important research topic, which is of great significance for evaluating the development level and forecasting the development direction of e-commerce. However, there is a certain disparity between the current mainstream research model and reality, which leads to a deviated result. This paper puts forward a definition of ＂transaction efficiency＂ based on essential transaction services and establishes a model of the middleman＇s specialized production decision of transaction services. The research result shows that （1） transaction efficiency plays an important role in improving the middleman＇s specialized production level, （2） only when the transaction efficiency is higher than a certain threshold will the distribution middleman appear, and （3） the degree of economic specialization, price of commodities and transaction services, and other associated factors also affect the evolution of e-commerce transaction systems.

Sensing properties and mechanisms of LaF_(3)-Co_(3)O_(4) nanorods for low-concentration methanol detection

Methanol is one of the characteristic gases that distinguish between healthy individuals and lung cancer(LC)lesions in exhaled human *** concentration in exhaled breath is generally below one part per million(1×10^(-6)).The second-phase composite is widely regarded as one of the methods to improve the gas-sensing perfor-mance of metal oxide semiconductor(MOS)*** this study,LaF_(3)-Co_(3)O_(4) was synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method to enhance its low-concentration methanol gas-sensing performance.5 at%LaF_(3)-Co_(3)O_(4) nanorods exhibited excellent methanol detection performance,including a wider linear detection concentration range(0.2×10^(-6)~5×10^(-6)),a response value exceeding 4.0 for 1×10^(-6)methanol at 275°C and 75%relative humidity(RH),long-term stability(maximum deviation within 15%over 2 weeks),and excellent *** mechanism of performance enhancement was studied using various techniques,and density functional *** special spinel structure of Co_(3)O_(4),the high ionic migration of F-in LaF_(3),the larger specific surface area of 5 at%LaF_(3)-Co_(3)O_(4) nanorods,and the generated crystal defects all explain the excellentmethanol gas-sensing *** work provides a novel route to prepare MOS composite materials for low-concentration methanol gas detection.

Effects of nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations on the bioaccumulation of polybrominated diphenyl ethers by Prorocentrum donghaiense

The growth, cellular total lipids, bioaccumulation amount, and bioaccumulation factors （BAFs） of 2,4,4 ′ -tribromodiphenyl ether （BDE28）, 2,2 ′ ,4,4 ′ -tetrabromodiphenyl ether （BDE47）, and 2,2 ′ ,4,4 ′ ,5-pentabromodiphenyl ether （BDE99） in a semi-continuous culture of Prorocentrum donghaiense were studied in relation to nitrate （0, 128, and 512 μmol/L） and phosphate （0, 8, and 32 μmol/L） concentrations. The BDE28, BDE47, and BDE99 content per cell under 0 μmol N/L were 3.77 × 10 6 , 3.95 × 10 6 , and 4.32 × 10 6 ng/cell, respectively, which were significantly higher than those under 128 and 512 μmol N/L. A nearly 5-fold increase in polybrominated diphenyl ether （PBDE） content per algal cell was found between 0 and 8 μmol P/L and between 8 and 32 μmol P/L. With increasing N and P concentrations, the PBDE content per volume of algal culture and the accumulation percentage of available PBDEs declined slightly. The BAFs for the PBDEs based on lipids showed that the logBAF lip under 0 μmol N/L was higher than those under 128 and 512 μmol N/L. The logBAF lip under 0 μmol P/L was higher than that under 8 μmol P/L but lower than that under 32 μmol P/L. Correlation analysis indicated a significant negative correlation between nutrient concentration and cellular total lipids, as well as the PBDE content per cell. The results indicate that different N and P concentrations change the total lipids content of P. donghaiense, thereby resulting in varying PBDE accumulation.

The compound(E)-2-(3,4-dihydroxystyryl)-3-hydroxy-4H-pyran-4-one alleviates neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

Previous studies have shown that the compound(E)-2-(3,4-dihydroxystyryl)-3-hydroxy-4H-pyran-4-one(D30),a pyromeconic acid derivative,possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties,inhibits amyloid-β aggregation,and alleviates scopolamine-induced cognitive impairment,similar to the phase Ⅲ clinical drug *** this study,we established a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease via intracerebroventricular injection of fibrillar amyloid-β to investigate the effect of D30 on fibrillar amyloid-β-induced *** results showed that D30 alleviated fibrillar amyloid-β-induced cognitive impairment,promoted fibrillar amyloid-β clearance from the hippocampus and cortex,suppressed oxidative stress,and inhibited activation of microglia and astrocytes.D30 also reversed the fibrillar amyloid-β-induced loss of dendritic spines and synaptic protein ***,we demonstrated that exogenous fibrillar amyloid-βintroduced by intracerebroventricular injection greatly increased galectin-3 expression levels in the brain,and this increase was blocked by *** the role of D30 in clearing amyloid-β,inhibiting neuroinflammation,protecting synapses,and improving cognition,this study highlights the potential of galectin-3 as a promising treatment target for patients with Alzheimer's disease.
