The internet of the underground things(IoUT)is an emerging field that concerns connected underground sensing nodes and can find applications in various fields such as geotechnical engineering,precision agriculture,and search and rescue operations.The complex underground environment and multiphase nature of the soil pose challenges to wireless underground communication.Most existing studies on wireless underground communication focus on the use of electromagnetic waves.However,as a highly lossy material for electromagnetic waves,soil can limit the range and reliability of data transmission.Inspired by subterranean animals that rely on vibrations or seismic waves for underground communication,the prototype system developed in this study is based on vibration.This system includes a bioinspired vibrating source,a micro-electromechanical system(MEMS)accelerometer,a microcontroller,and a set of algorithms for encoding and decoding information.Specifically,the mole ratsinspired source is small in size,low in cost,and energy-efficient.An on-off-keying decoding algorithm enhanced with an error-correction algorithm is found to be robust in transmitting textual and imaginary information.With the current design,a maximum transmission bit rate of 16e17 bits per second and a transmission distance of 80 cm can be achieved.The bit error ratio is as low as 0.1%,demonstrating the robustness of the algorithms.The performance of the developed system shows that seismic waves produced by vibration can be used as an information carrier and can potentially be implemented in the IoUT.

The paper analyzes and compares the phase margins of four active disturbance rejection control(ADRC)designs,which are based on different common-used extended state observers(ESOs)of various orders,for second-order systems.The quantitative results indicate that,besides good dynamic response,ADRC can guarantee enough phase margin.It is also proved that by decreasing the order of ESO,the phase margin can be increased.Furthermore,it is demonstrated that the phase margins of the ADRC-based systems can be almost uninfluenced by the uncertainties of the system parameters.Finally,the theoretical results are verified by both simulations and experiments on a motion control platform.

With the benefits of reducing time and workforce,automated testing has been widely used for the quality assurance of mobile applications(APPs).Compared with automated testing,manual testing can achieve higher coverage in complex interactive Activities.And the effectiveness of manual testing is highly dependent on the user operation process(UOP)of experienced testers.Based on the UOP,we propose an iterative Android automated testing(IAAT)method that automatically records,extracts,and integrates UOPs to guide the test logic of the tool across the complex Activity iteratively.The feedback test results can train the UOPs to achieve higher coverage in each iteration.We extracted 50 UOPs and conducted experiments on 10 popular mobile APPs to demonstrate IAAT’s effectiveness compared with Monkey and the initial automated tests.The experimental results show a noticeable improvement in the IAAT compared with the test logic without human knowledge.Under the 60 minutes test time,the average code coverage is improved by 13.98%to 37.83%,higher than the 27.48%of Monkey under the same conditions.

Anticipating future actions without observing any partial videos of future actions plays an important role in action prediction and is also a challenging task.To obtain abundant information for action anticipation,some methods integrate multimodal contexts,including scene object labels.However,extensively labelling each frame in video datasets requires considerable effort.In this paper,we develop a weakly supervised method that integrates global motion and local finegrained features from current action videos to predict next action label without the need for specific scene context labels.Specifically,we extract diverse types of local features with weakly supervised learning,including object appearance and human pose representations without ground truth.Moreover,we construct a graph convolutional network for exploiting the inherent relationships of humans and objects under present incidents.We evaluate the proposed model on two datasets,the MPII-Cooking dataset and the EPIC-Kitchens dataset,and we demonstrate the generalizability and effectiveness of our approach for action anticipation.

Chitin is an abundant natural nitrogen-containing biopolymer with great application potential in materials,environment,energy,and health.However,the structure characteristics and processing technologies have required intense research in related applications.In particular,there have been great efforts to developing solvents for chitin,and the results s0 far are quite encouraging.This review summarizes the main solvent systems used for chitin,namely the aqueous solvent systems(mineral acids,inorganic salt aqueous solutions,alkali aqueous solutions)and non aqueous ones(LiCl-dimethylacetamide solvents,CaCl22H2O saturated methanol,ionic liquids,deep eutectic solvents,and protic organic solvents).The solvent properties,dissolution methods,and solution properties are discussed in detail.Special attention is paid to the dissolution mechanism in each system.This review can provide a reference for understanding the dissolution behavior of chitin and finding suitable solvents for it.

Energy consumption optimization for edge computing-supported cellular networks based on optimal transport theory

With advancements in mobile communication technologies, there have been multiple user device(UD) connections to cellular networks. Because of changes in the spatial distribution of UDs and application requirements, the traditional offloading mechanism based on the nearest distance will result in heavy loads for some base stations(BSs). Because there is a high-order relationship between the energy consumption of the BS processing tasks and the number of computing tasks, the traditional offloading mechanism will result in high energy consumption, and UD’s offloading decision must be dynamically adjusted. The offloading decision of UDs is optimized based on detailed information about various parameters associated with a network from the standpoint of distribution. This information includes details regarding the spatial distribution of UDs,application requirements, and the offloading period of computing tasks. Based on optimal transport theory,an energy consumption optimization algorithm is suggested to lower the total amount of energy consumed by the offloading process of UDs’ computing tasks by reasonably planning the offloading BSs of the UDs in the networks. The simulation results show that the proposed offloading mechanism based on energy consumption optimization reduces the total energy consumption of the offloading process by 28.09% when compared to the traditional offloading mechanism, and the traffic managed by each BS is balanced.

Influence of 6-shogaol potentiated on 5-fluorouracil treatment of liver cancer by promoting apoptosis and cell cycle arrest by regulating AKT/mTOR/MRP1 signalling

Currently, chemoresistance seriously attenuates the curative outcome of liver cancer. The purpose of our work was to investigate the influence of 6-shogaol on the inhibition of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in liver cancer. The cell viability of cancer cells was determined by MTT assay. Liver cancer cell apoptosis and the cell cycle were examined utilizing flow cytometry. Moreover, qRT–PCR and western blotting was used to analyse the mRNA and protein expression levels, respectively. Immunohistochemistry assays were used to examine multidrug resistance protein 1 (MRP1) expression in tumour tissues. In liver cancer cells, we found that 6-shogaol-5-FU combination treatment inhibited cell viability, facilitated G0/G1 cell cycle arrest, and accelerated apoptosis compared with 6-shogaol or 5-FU treatment alone. In cancer cells cotreated with 6-shogaol and 5-FU, AKT/mTOR pathway- and cell cycle-related protein expression levels were inhibited, and MRP1 expression was downregulated. AKT activation or MRP1 increase reversed the influence of combination treatment on liver cancer cell viability, apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. The inhibition of AKT activation to the anticancer effect of 6-shogaol-5-FU could be reversed by MRP1 silencing. Moreover, our results showed that 6-shogaol-5-FU combination treatment notably inhibited tumour growth in vivo. In summary, our data demonstrated that 6-shogaol contributed to the curative outcome of 5-FU in liver cancer by inhibiting the AKT/mTOR/MRP1 signalling pathway.

Continuous and Discrete Similarity Coefficient for Identifying Essential Proteins Using Gene Expression Data

Essential proteins play a vital role in biological processes,and the combination of gene expression profiles with Protein-Protein Interaction(PPI)networks can improve the identification of essential proteins.However,gene expression data are prone to significant fluctuations due to noise interference in topological networks.In this work,we discretized gene expression data and used the discrete similarities of the gene expression spectrum to eliminate noise fluctuation.We then proposed the Pearson Jaccard coefficient(PJC)that consisted of continuous and discrete similarities in the gene expression data.Using the graph theory as the basis,we fused the newly proposed similarity coefficient with the existing network topology prediction algorithm at each protein node to recognize essential proteins.This strategy exhibited a high recognition rate and good specificity.We validated the new similarity coefficient PJC on PPI datasets of Krogan,Gavin,and DIP of yeast species and evaluated the results by receiver operating characteristic analysis,jackknife analysis,top analysis,and accuracy analysis.Compared with that of node-based network topology centrality and fusion biological information centrality methods,the new similarity coefficient PJC showed a significantly improved prediction performance for essential proteins in DC,IC,Eigenvector centrality,subgraph centrality,betweenness centrality,closeness centrality,NC,PeC,and WDC.We also compared the PJC coefficient with other methods using the NF-PIN algorithm,which predicts proteins by constructing active PPI networks through dynamic gene expression.The experimental results proved that our newly proposed similarity coefficient PJC has superior advantages in predicting essential proteins.
