Role of activin receptor-like kinase 1 in vascular development and cerebrovascular diseases

Improving Catalytic Performance of Burkholderiacepacia Lipase by Chemical Modification with Functional Ionic Liquids

Various imidazolium and choline-based functional ionic liquids（Ks） comprising different cations and anions were grafted onto Burkholderiacepacia lipase（BCL） through surface amino acids coupling. The catalytic activity, thermostability, organic solvent tolerance and adaptability to temperature and pH changes of the modified BCL were then evaluated in olive oil hydrolysis reaction. The results showed that different combinations of cations and anions in ILs had important influence on the catalytic performance of the modified lipases. BCL modified with IL [Choline][H2PO4] was the most improved lipase, in which increases by 1.2 folds in relative activity, 2.5 folds in typi- cal proton solvent（10% methanol, volume fraction）, and 1.4 folds in thermostability（after incubation at 70℃ for 2 h） were achieved in relative toits native form. BCL modified with [HOOCEPEG350[M][BF4] had higher optimal tempe- rature and pH, and better thermosability compared with the native and other modified BCLs. The conformational changes of BCLs were also confirmed by fluorescence spectroscopy and circular dichroism spectroscopy.

Correlation between Surface Area Ratio of Medial to Lateral Tibial Plateau and Knee Alignment in Adults

Objective This study aimed to investigate the correlation between the surface area ratio of medial tibial plateau(MTP)to lateral tibial plateau(LTP)and the mechanical tibiofemoral angle(mTFA).Methods Lower limb computed tomography(CT)images were collected at our ***,the original CT data were analyzed and reconstructed using medical image processing *** proximal and distal centres of the femur and tibia were *** surface areas of MTP and LTP were identified using image processing *** Prism 8.0.2 was used to perform the statistical *** The surface area ratio of MTP to LTP was significantly correlated with the mTFA in all patients(P<0.0001),male group(P<0.0001),female group(P<0.0001),varus group(P<0.0001),and valgus group(P=0.002).Furthermore,the surface area of MTP and LTP was significantly greater in the male group than in the female group(P<0.0001).There was significant difference in the surface area of the MTP between the varus and valgus groups(P<0.0001).Significant difference was also observed in the surface area ratio of MTP to LTP between the varus and valgus groups(P<0.0001).Conclusion The surface area ratio of MTP to LTP was correlated with the *** a certain range,the smaller the mTFA,the greater the surface area ratio of MTP to *** patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty,of whom the surface area of the MTP was basically equal to that of the LTP,it is recommended that the osteotomy should be performed in accordance with mechanical alignment standards,and that a symmetrical tibial plateau prosthesis should be *** patients whose surface area of MTP is significantly greater than that of the LTP,it is recommended that the osteotomy should be performed in accordance with kinematic alignment standards,and that an anatomical tibial plateau prosthesis should be used.

Effects of Antiretroviral Therapy and HIV Exposure in Utero on Adverse Pregnancy and Infant Outcomes:A Prospective Cohort Study in Guangzhou, China

Objective This study aimed to evaluate the effects of in-utero exposure to HIV and ART on pregnancy outcome and early growth of *** This cohort study enrolled 802 HIV-infected pregnant women between October 2009 and May 2018 in Guangzhou, China. The women were assigned to receive combination ART(c ART) or mono/dual ART or no treatment. The primary outcomes were the combined endpoints of any adverse pregnancy outcome [including ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous abortion, stillbirth, preterm birth, small for gestational age(SGA)] and adverse early growth outcome(including infant death, HIV infection of mother-to-child transmission, and underweight, wasting and stunting of infants at 4 weeks of age).Results Adverse pregnancy outcomes occurred in 202(35.1%) of all enrolled HIV-infected women, and121(31.3%) of all infants exhibited adverse effects on early growth at 4 weeks of age. The rates of adverse pregnancy outcomes, spontaneous abortion, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, infant death and perinatal HIV infection were higher among women not receiving ART, compared to those treated with c ART or mono/dual ART(P < 0.05). However, women treated with c ART had a higher rate of SGA,compared to untreated women(P < 0.05). No differences in early infant growth were observed among the different treatment *** Our findings underscore the essentiality of prioritizing HIV-positive pregnant women for ART, as even mono/dual ART available in resource-limited countries could improve pregnancy outcomes and infant survival.

The Inhibitory Effects of PSS-Loaded Nanoparticles on the Dysfunction of Cardiac Microvascular Endothelia in Rats with Diabetic Cardiomyopathy

Propylene glycol alginate sodium sulfate-loaded nanoparticles(PSS-NP) has been shown potential to prevent the microvascular endothelial injuries caused by diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM). In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of PSS-NP on the dysfunction of cardiac microvascular endothelia in streptozotocin(STZ)-induced DCM rat model. Echocardiographic measurements showed a significant improvement of cardiac function in the PSS-NP-treated group. Our results revealed that the abnormalities of cardiac systolic and diastolic functions were suppressed by the treatments of prostaglandin E1(PGE1), low molecular weight heparin(LMWH), PSS and PSS-NP. Our comparison analysis indicated that PSS-NP showed the strongest inhibitory effects on microvascular endothelial injuries. Transmission electron microscopy analysis demonstrated that PSS-NP protected the cardiac microvascular endothelium and further improved endothelium dysfunction in DCM rats. ELISA and Western blot assays further showed a high efficiency of improving cardiac microvascular endothelial dysfunction with PSS-NP. Our results demonstrated that PSS-NP increased the protein expression of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)-p85 and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)-A, and the phosphorylation of protein kinase B(Akt) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS), which were involved in the amelioration of cardiac microvascular endothelial dysfunction. These data suggest that PSS-NP may be a novel approach to the treatment the coronary microcirculation disorder diseases such as DCM.
