CORRECTIVE SURGERY OF CONGENITAL SCOLIOSIS WITH TYPE II SPLIT SPINAL CORD MALFORMATION

Objective To investigate the corrective results of congenital scoliosis with type II split spinal cord *** By reviewing the medical records and roentgenograms of congenital scoliosis patients with type II split spinal cord malformation that underwent corrective surgery, septum location and length, curve type, coronal and sagittal Cobb’s angles, apical vertebral rotation and translation, and trunk shift were measured and *** A total of 23 congenital scoliosis patients with type II split spinal cord malformation were studied, 6 cases were due to failure of segmentation, 8 cases due to failure of formation, and the remaining 9 cases due to mixed *** fibrous septums were located in the thoracic spine in 8 patients, lumbar spine in 4 patients, thoracic and lumbar spine in 10 patients, and from cervical to lumbar spine in 1 *** septum extended an average of 4.9 *** surgeries included anterior correction with instrumentation in 2 patients, posterior correction with instrumentation in 11 patients, anterior release and posterior correction with instrumentation in 6 patients, anterior and posterior resection of the hemivertebra and posterior correction with instrumentation in 4 *** pre- and postoperative coronal Cobb’s angles, apical vertebral translations, apical vertebral rotations, trunk shifts were 61.9° and 32.5°(P<0.001), 48.9 mm and 31.5 mm (P<0.001), 1.2 and 1.1, 12.7 mm and 8.2 mm, *** average correction rate of coronal Cobbs angle was 47.5%.The sagittal balance was also well *** fibrous septums were all left in situ. PAGET＇S disease, also called osteitis deformans, is a metabolic bone disorder. It is characterized by increased bone resorption and the compensatory formation of new bones. The increased bone conversion and remodeling lead to the incrustation of woven bones and lamellar bones and finally result in the expansion, loosening, and excessive vascularization of the affected bones, rendering them susceptible to deformity and fracture. Paget＇s disease occurs much more commonly in Anglo-Saxons than in Asians and Africans.

Effect of FeSi additive in dual-chamber sample cup on thermal analysis characteristic values and vermiculating rate of compacted graphite iron

Thermal analysis plays a key role in the online inspection of molten iron *** solidification process of molten iron can be reflected by thermal analysis curves,and silicon is one of important elements affecting the solidification of molten *** this study,FeSi75 was added in one chamber of the dual-chamber sample cup,and the influences of FeSi75 additive on the characteristic values of thermal analysis curves and vermiculating rate were *** results show that with the increase of FeSi75,the start temperature of austenite formation TALfirstly decreases and then increases,but the start temperature of eutectic growth TSEF,the lowest eutectic temperature TEU,temperature at maximum eutectic reaction rate TEM,and highest eutectic temperature TERkeep always an *** temperature at final solidification point TEShas little *** FeSi75 additive has different influences on the vermiculating rate of molten iron with different vermiculation,and the vermiculating rate increases for lower vermiculation molten iron while decreases for higher *** to the thermal analysis curves obtained by a dual-chamber sample cup with 0.30wt.%FeSi75 additive in one chamber,the vermiculating rate of molten iron can be evaluated by comparing the characteristic values of these *** time differenceΔtERcorresponding to the highest eutectic temperature TERhas a closer relationship with the vermiculating rate,and a parabolic regression curve between the time differenceΔtERand vermiculating rateηhas been obtained within the range of 65%to 95%,which is suitable for the qualified melt.

Blockades of angiotensin and aldosterone reduce osteopontin expression and interstitial fibrosis infiltration in rats with myocardial infarction

Background It has been reported that osteopontin has an important role in cardiac fibrosis and remodeling. However, its direct mechanisms remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of angiotensin and aldosterone blockades in cardiac osteopontin expression associated with cardiac remodeling in myocardial infarcted （MI） rats. Methods Fifty SD rats that survived 24 hours after ligating left anterior descending coronary artery were randomly divided into three groups： MI-saline group （n=15, 5 ml/d）, MI-perindopril group （n=18, perindopril 2 mg·kg^-1·d^-1） and MI-spironolacton （n=-17, spironolacton 20 mg·kg^-1·d^-1）. A sham operation group （n=15） was selected as non-infarcted control. At 6 weeks after treatment, hemodynamic pararmeters and left ventricular function were measured with catheterization, interstitial fibrosis infiltration and cardiomyocyte diameters were evaluated histologically. Myocardium osteopontin protein expression level in the non-infarcted myocardium was detected by Western blotting. Results No osteopontin protein was detected in the myocardium of sham-operation rats. High levels of osteopontin protein expression were detected in the MI-saline rats, but the levels were suppressed in the MI-perindopril and MI-spironolacton rats at 6 weeks following MI （P 〈0.01, respectively）. Compared with the sham operation group, all rats in the MI group showed marked interstitial fibrosis infiltration in the non-infarction area, higher ventricular weight/body weight ratio, significantly increased cardiomyocyte diameter （P 〈0.01, respectively）, and developed significant systolic and diastolic dysfunction as indicated by decreased left ventricular systolic pressure （LVSP） and ±dp/dt, as well as increased left ventricular end-diastolic pressure （LVEDP）（P 〈0.01, respectively）.
