The serum co.centratio.s o. immuno.lo.ulin G (IgG), immuno.lo.ulin A (IgA), immuno.lo.ulin M (IgM), to.al pro.ein and albumin were measured in 35 Human Immuno.eficiency Virus—po.itive, HAART (highly active antiretro.iral therapy) na?ve subjects attending the PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan fo. AIDS relief) clinic, University Co.lege Ho.pital, Ibadan and in 30 apparently healthy co.tro. subjects to.assess the relatio.ship between serum pro.ein, immuno.lo.ulin co.centratio.s and labo.ato.y indices o. HIV disease (CD4 cell co.nts and viral lo.d). Serum IgG (1008.6 ± 530.7 mg/dl), IgA (170.4 ± 69 mg/dl) and to.al pro.ein (9.9 ± 1.7 g/dl) levels were higher amo.g HIV po.itive subjects co.pared with mean values in healthy subjects (549.8 ± 193.8 mg/dl, 106.8 ± 26.4 mg/dl and 7.8 ± 0.5 g/dl respectively). The median serum IgM co.centratio. (131mg/dl) was significantly higher in HIV po.itive subjects co.pared with 35 mg/dl in healthy co.tro.s (p 200 cells/μL. There was also.no.statistically significant co.relatio. o.served between viral lo.d and serum immuno.lo.ulin levels.

Effects o. amo.iaquine, artesunate and artesunate amo.iaquine co.binatio. o. o.en field no.elty-induced behavio.s and spatial memo.y in healthy mice were studied. Fo.ty mice were used in the o.en field and fifty each in the radial arm maze and Y maze;mice were assigned into.fo.r o. five gro.ps o. ten each, Gro.p A served as co.tro. (distilled water), Gro.ps B, C and D received artesunate (4 mg/kg), amo.iaquine (10 mg/kg) and artesunate-amo.iaquine co.binatio. (4 mg/kg and10 mg/kg) respectively, while Gro.p E animals (fo. the co.nitio. tests) were given sco.o.amine (2 mg/kg). Drugs and vehicle were administered o.ally fo. three days. Results were analysed by o.e way analysis o. variance fo.lo.ed by a po.tho. test. Results sho.ed that artesunate and amo.iaquine either in co.binatio. o. administered singly caused a significant increase in o.en field no.elty-induced ho.izo.tal lo.o.o.io. and rearing. Gro.ming in the o.en field sho.ed increments in the artesunate alo.e and artesunate amo.iaquine gro.ps while significant reductio.s in spatial memo.y were also.seen in the co.nitio. mo.els used.

Backgro.nd: No.-adherence to.drug therapy is an impo.tant cause o. treatment failure amo.g patients with chro.ic co.ditio.s like diabetes. Previo.s researches have presented asso.iatio.s amo.g perso.ality traits, medicatio. beliefs and adherence to.lo.g-term medicatio. treatment in individuals with different chro.ic diseases. Ho.ever, there is limited kno.ledge abo.t asso.iatio.s amo.g perso.ality traits, medicatio. belief and adherence to.diabetic treatment in Africa. It was o. this basis that this study was undertaken to.assess the perso.ality traits and perso.al beliefs o. patients o. medicatio. fo. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and to.also.assess adherence to.treatment. Metho.o.o.y: This study was a descriptive cro.s sectio.al study. Using a systematic rando. sampling technique, 223 patients attending the diabetic clinic o. Lago. State University Teaching Ho.pital, Lago. were selected o.er a perio. o. 12 weeks. Patients were interviewed using the Big Five-facto. Perso.ality Invento.y, Medicatio. Belief Questio.naire and the Medicatio. Adherence Repo.t Scale. Data were statistically analyzed using descriptive statistics, Student’s t-tests, Chi Square Tests and Pearso.’s co.relatio.s analysis. Results: No.-adherence was estimated to.be 40.8%. No.-adherent respo.dents had lo.er mean sco.e o. neuro.icism perso.ality traits co.pared to.adherent respo.dents. Pearso.’s co.relatio. analysis sho.ed a weak negative relatio.ship between neuro.icism perso.ality trait and adherence behavio.r (P o.a statistically significant weak co.relatio.
