Introduction: Depression is common in HIV/AIDS. We aim to investigate the frequency and the grade of this mental disorder in partners and determine its influence on sexual dysfunctions in serodiscordant couples in Ouagadougou. Patients/Method: This cross-sectional study was monitored from 1 January to 31 June 2010 in the internal medicine department of CHUYO, Ouagadougou. HIV-infected patients and their seronegative partners who gave their consent were included. Depression was diagnosed using the Beck Depression Inventory 13 items (BDI-13). Results: Eighty heterosexual and monogamous serodiscordant couples were studied. 31 (38.7%) HIV-infected and 23 (28.7%) seronegative partners were affected by depression;p = 0.18. The score of depression was 3.5 ± 2.1 in HIV-infected and 3.3 ± 1.6 in seronegative partners;p = 0.85. Depression was diagnosed in both partners in 13 couples (16.2%) and in only one partner in 28 couples (35%). Depression was diagnosed at least for one partner in 40 (51.3%) couples where sexual dysfunctions affected partner (s) and in 1 (50%) couple where no sexual dysfunction was reported. Conclusion: Psychological assessment is needed for a better management of HIV/AIDS in serodiscordant couples.

Diabetic Ketosis Decompensations at the National Hospital in Benin (West Africa), What Did We Learn about the Precipitating Factors?

We performed a retrospective study on diabetic ketosis decompensations in 101 diabetic patients in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Service of the National Hospital and Universitary Koutoukou Hubert Maga (CNHU-HKM) for a period of 3 years. Objective: The main objective of the study was to identify the underlying factors of ketosis decompensations for a more focused education program. Results: The mean age was 43.84 years. In half of cases (49.5%), the ketosis decompensations were inaugural for the diabetes. Type 2 diabetes was predominant with a frequency of 85.1% versus 14.9% for type 1 diabetes. The overall prevalence rate of ketosis decompensations was 21.82%. The precipitating factors were infections (51.49%) and treatment withdrawal (25.74%). The average blood glucose was 4.46 g/L with ranges of 1.86 g/L and 13 g/L. The outcome was favorable in 89.1% of cases. The mortality rate was 7.9%. The average hospital stay was 13.23 days. Conclusion: This study showed that ketosis decompensations are still frequent. The main precipitating factors are infection and therapeutic noncompliance. Preventive actions are needed through screening programs, regular monitoring and targeted education.

Introduction: Electrolyte’s profile in non-acidosis diabetic ketosis is poorly specified. We aimed to determine the nature of diabetic ketosis decompensations as well as the profile of kalemia and factors associated with its disorders at diagnosis of acidosis compared to non-acidosis diabetic ketosis. Methods: The study was retrospective from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2011 in Yalgado Ouédraogo teaching hospital. Diabetic in-patients suffering from simple ketosis, keto-acidosis or mixed decompensation, who achieved blood electrolytes assessment before intensive insulin therapy were included. Results: Sixty two patients were studied. The sex ratio was 0.7 and the mean age was 41.7 years. Keto-acidosis, simple ketosis and mixed decompensation were diagnosed respectively in 18 (29%), 32 (51.6%) and 12 (19.4%) patients. Kalemia was normal in 42 (67.7%), while hypokalemia and hyperkalemia were reported respectively in 11 (17.8%) and 9 (14.5%) patients. Kalemia was often normal in all types of ketosis decompensation and disorders of kalemia occurred more in patients with keto-acidosis (50%) than those with simple ketosis (21.9%);p = 0.04. Renal failure was diagnosed in 10 patients (50%) with and 2 (4.8%) without kalemia’s disorders;p = 0.0001. Seven patients (35%) with and 4 (9.5%) without kalemia’s disorders suffered from unconsciousness;p = 0.02. It happens more in hyperkalemia (44.4%) than in normal kalemia condition (9.5%);p = 0.02. Conclusion: If kalemia is often normal in all types of diabetic ketosis emergencies, hypokalemia is the most initial frequent potassium disorder.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a real public health problem worldwide and is growing in developing countries. Our aim was to determine the prevalence of undiagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and to evaluate the performance of the Finnish Diabetes Risk Score (FINDRISC) questionnaire to identify type 2 diabetics in the urban population of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study among volunteers aged 18 years and older recruited systematically from November 11 to 16, 2019, in the city of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, FINDRISC score was used. Analysis of the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was used to study the diagnostic performance of FINDRISC for the identification of type 2 diabetics. The optimal threshold was determined by the sum of the highest sensitivity and specificity. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the association of each variable used in the calculation of the FINDRISC score. Results: A total of 1276 individuals were included in the analyses, of which 667 (52.27%) were women. The average age was 34.16 years (SD: ±12.42). The prevalence of T2DM was 10.74%. The mean FINDRISC score was 5.85 (SD: ±4.31). The majority (58.54%) of individuals had a low risk of diabetes according to the FINDRISC score 0 - 7, while 3.61% had a score ≥ 15. The FINDRISC score showed good performance (AUC = 0.70) in identifying undiagnosed type 2 diabetics. Background: Diabetes mellitus and physical inactivity are modifiable risk factors for stroke. Physical activity is one of the pillars of type 2 diabetes management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physical fitness of a sample of type 2 diabetes patients at the CHU of Martinique (UHCM). Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study, from 1st June to 30th September 2018. It consisted of the exhaustive prospective collection of data on the usual physical activity and physical fitness of type 2 diabetic patients hospitalized in the Endocrinology department of the UHCM for a short stay. The physical fitness tests of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, validated on 13 April 2013, were used. Results: Thirty patients were included in the study. The mean age was 51.9 ± 11 years. The sex ratio was 1.5, and hypertension in 53% (n = 16) of patients was the most associated risk factor. The median duration of diabetes progression was 4 years with Q1 and Q2 quantiles of 2 and 10 years, respectively. The physical fitness evaluation noted a balance disorder with a risk of falling in 56.7% (n = 17) of patients, muscle stiffness in 20% (n = 6) of them, while 56.7% (n = 17) and 80% (n = 24) had a decrease in the muscular strength of the upper and lower limbs, respectively. The distance covered during the standard 6 min walking test was normal for 70% (n = 21) of the patients. Conclusion: The evaluation of the patient’s physical fitness allows us to assess their deconditioning to physical activity and other obstacles to physical activity to plan appropriate interventions.

Background: Achieving and maintaining glycemic targets are a challenge for health practitioners around the world. We aimed to study the factors associated with prolonged poor diabetes control in the cohort of T2DM patients monitored and treated in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Yalgado OUEDRAOGO Teaching Hospital in Ouagadougou in order to optimize therapeutic education in these patients. Methodology: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study combining retrospective data collection from the last year of patient follow-up and prospective collection of some information. The study included all diabetic patients, aged at least 18 years old, followed and treated in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Yalgado OUEDRAOGO Teaching Hospital between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2018 following a systematic random sampling with a sampling step of 10. The variables collected were sociodemographic, anthropometric, lifestyle, cardiovascular risk factors and diabetes-related characteristics. To determine the risk factors associated with prolonged poor glycemic control, we performed modeling using logistic regression. All variables associated with prolonged poor glycemic control, in bivariate logistic regression with a p-value less than 0.20 were included in the full model. Later, we used a stepwise descending method to obtain the final model, which was then tested by a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The significance threshold was set at 5%. Raw and fitted Odds-Ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval were presented. Results: 270 patients were included. Prolonged poor control of diabetes mellitus was observed in 73.70%. Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer worldwide, accounting for 6.8% of new cancer cases and 8.1% of cancer-related deaths. About 85% of these deaths occurred in low- and middle-income countries. The aim of this study was to assess the frequency and distribution of the human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes in women showing cytological abnormalities of the cervix at the Sourô SANOU University Hospital (CHUSS) in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. This is a descriptive study of women recruited at the CHUSS. The cervico-uterine smear examination was carried out at the CHUSS Anatomy and Pathology Department for cervical cancer screening. The data were collected from women with atypical cells on their cervico-uterine smear. Cervicovaginal samples were taken from consenting women and HPV genotyping was performed using the HPV Direct FLOW CHIP kit at CERBA. We obtained approval from the ethics committee. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 26 software. The results of the study showed that 67.79% of the participants were aged between 50 and 65, a group that is particularly vulnerable to persistent infection with high-risk oncogenic HPV genotypes. Of the women screened, 40.7% were HPV positive and 29.2% had multiple infections. The most common genotypes were HPV 35, followed by HPV 18, 52, 58 and 66. These data highlight the need for increased surveillance and targeted prevention strategies among this female population.

Temporary ponds play substantial roles in preserving biodiversity in the *** study investigated the influence of anthropic and eco-hydrological factors on the plant diversity around two grazed ponds and one ungrazed pond in Ferlo,northern *** phytoecological transects were established per *** each transect,homogenous herbaceous vegetation units were identified and characterized(herbaceous cover,exposure,soil texture,soil moisture and pH,average height and slope).The herbaceous flora comprised 55 species,41 genera and 22 families across the three *** of the Poaceae,particularly Eragrostis tremula and Enteropogon prieurii,mostly colonized the grazed ponds,while the ungrazed pond favored other families’species such as Achyranthes sp.,Commelina forsskaolii,Corchorus *** Shannon’s diversity index(H′)of Wendu Marodi(ungrazed pond)was slightly higher(4.9 bits)than that of Belel Lougal and Belel Sow(grazed ponds)with 4.8 and 4.5 bits,*** equitability indices were relatively high in the three ponds(0.85,0.83 and 0.78).Eco-ecological factors distinguished four species’groupings:a Tribulus terrestris grouping colonizing the constraining and over-grazed zones,a Digitaria horizontalis grouping,and Chloris barbata grouping found in the transition zones,and an Achyranthes aspera grouping in the wetlands,where woody plants were strongly present and the anthropic action *** study highlighted the importance of maintaining a landscape mosaic of ungrazed or semi-protected ponds and grazed ponds to preserve the herbaceous floristic diversity in the center of Ferlo(Senegal)and the Sahel in general.

本文的主要研究目的是研究多股螺旋弹簧(简称多股簧)的动态运动参数包括:位移、速度、加速度。本文的研究工作是在重庆大学机械工程学院制造自动化实验室的多股螺旋弹簧数控机床上完成的。多股螺旋弹簧是由钢索(通常由3-7股直径为0.5 - 3.0 mm的碳素弹簧钢丝缠绕而成)卷制而成的圆柱螺旋弹簧。多股簧根据有没有中心线可以分为两种。其中压缩弹簧的螺旋方向与钢索的螺旋方向相反,而拉伸弹簧的螺旋方向与钢索的螺旋方向一致。迄今为止,在多股簧方面已经进行了大量的研究,其中一篇名为“多股螺旋弹簧的设计和建模”提出了基于多股簧数学模型的成型方法以及多股簧加工过程中动态张力的控制;另外一篇题为多股簧的静态响应的文章指出了决定多股簧静态张力的步骤,而多股簧是由一定数目的平滑钢丝绕成钢索后形成的。大量研究表明:和传统的单股簧相比,在一定的动态应用下多股螺旋弹簧表现出了更大的阻尼和更长的疲劳寿命。因此,多股簧动态运动参数的研究非常有意义。本文用冲击质量块冲击多股簧,通过对多股簧的某些质点进行测量计算,进行研究分析多股簧的运动参数。当多股簧被冲击时,由于各种各样的因素,每根簧丝的位移都是非常复杂的,主要影响因素有冲击块质量、弹簧的惯性和共振、簧丝之间的摩擦以及簧丝之间的滑移。为了克服这些问题,非接触、多通道的动态参数检测装置就非常有必要进行研究,主要研究内容包括:检测装置机械结构的设计,传感器的选型与安装,信号采集器的软、硬件模块设计与分析。并且设计了一种与本检测装置相配套的新的数据处理算法,来测量分析每根簧丝之间位移和时间,速度和时间,加速度和时间的关系。研究结果表明当多股簧被冲击时,每股簧丝都会产生振动。在冲击开始时,在弹簧的活动端会有一个大的变形而在固定端的变形比较小。在弹簧压缩的结束阶段,由于冲击能量以纵波的形式从多股簧的冲击点传递到固定端导致固定端产生了一个较大的变形。同时这也表明在多股簧中位移与多股簧的轴向长度是非线性关系的,速度与轴向长度也是非线性关系的。通过前述实验研究可知在多股簧的实际设计阶段,必须通过研究多股簧的冲击响应,选择合理的参数来避免簧丝产生过大的变形量。但是对于多股簧要通过理论分析是很难得到具体的计算公式,所以只能通过实验分析来进行研究。

Comparative Geochemical Study of the Tertiary and Quaternary Lavas of Western Senegal and the Cape Verde Islands: Geodynamic Implications

The western area of Senegal was the site of a basic volcanism in the Tertiary and Quaternary. That volcanism had caused the formation of alkaline olivine basalts, basanites and nephelinites from microlitic and porphyritic texture to dolerite texture. The geochemistry of major elements shows that the Quaternary basalts are more aluminous and more siliceous, but they contain less magnesium, less iron and less calcium than the Tertiary basalts. Two types of basalt occur here, based on the characteristics of the major elements in the Tertiary lavas: the highly undersaturated basalts of the Cape Verde Peninsula and the slightly undersaturated basalts of the Thiès Plateau. The characteristics of the trace elements reveal shallow interactions due to the contamination and/or assimilation, and to the fractional crystallization, but not due to the heterogeneity of the source. The strong enrichment in light rare earth elements (LREE) and the slight enrichment in heavy rare earth elements (HREE), the anomalies which are negative in K and Pb and positive in Nb, Ta and Eu of the Tertiary and Quaternary basalts of Western Senegal and similar anomalies of the same elements (Pb not analyzed) described in the Cape Verde islands, allow us to establish links between the petrogenetic mechanisms that had caused the formation of the basalts of this Islands and Western Senegal. Moreover, the volcanic activity in Western Senegal (of continental lntraplate type) and that of the Cape Verde Islands (oceanic intraplate type) are probably related to the hot spot located on the vertical of the Cape Verde.
