A survey of ventilation strategies during cardiopulmonary resuscitation

BACKGROUND:Many controversies still exist regarding ventilator parameters during cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR).This study aimed to investigate the CPR ventilation strategies currently being used among physicians in Chinese tertiary hospitals.METHODS:A survey was conducted among the cardiac arrest team physicians of 500 tertiary hospitals in China in August,2018.Surveyed data included physician and hospital information,and preferred ventilation strategy during CPR.RESULTS:A total of 438(88%)hospitals completed the survey,including hospitals from all 31 Chinese mainland provinces.About 41.1%of respondents chose delayed or no ventilation during CPR,with delayed ventilations all starting within 12 minutes.Of all the respondents who provided ventilation,83.0%chose to strictly follow the 30:2 strategy,while 17.0%chose ventilations concurrently with uninterrupted compressions.Only 38.3%respondents chose to intubate after initiating CPR,while 61.7%chose to intubate immediately when resuscitation began.During bagvalve-mask ventilation,only 51.4%of respondents delivered a frequency of 10 breaths per minute.In terms of ventilator settings,the majority of respondents chose volume control(VC)mode(75.2%),tidal volume of 6–7 mL/kg(72.1%),PEEP of 0–5 cmH2O(69.9%),and an FiO2 of 100%(66.9%).However,62.0%of respondents had mistriggers after setting the ventilator,and 51.8%had high pressure alarms.CONCLUSION:There is a great amount of variability in CPR ventilation strategies among cardiac arrest team physicians in Chinese tertiary hospitals.Guidelines are needed with specific recommendations on ventilation during CPR.

BACKGROUND:Corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH) is believed to mediate stress-induced behaviors, implying a broader, integrative role for the hormone in the psychological stress response, and studies on CRH in physical stress are few. This study was undertaken to investigate whether CRH plays an important role in cerebral infarction-related gastrointestinal barrier dysfunction.;METHODS:Thirty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into a pseudo-operation group (group C, n=10), a cerebral infarction group (group I, n=10), and a cerebral infarction + ic α-helical-CRH (9-41) group (group Aic, n=10). Urine samples were collected to determine the levels of epinephrine, norepinephrine, cortisol, and sucrose. At 24 hours after establishment of the models, blood samples were taken to determine the activity of diamine oxidase (DAO) and the concentration of D-lactic acid (D-lac). The stomach was taken to determine gastric Guth score, and the hypothalamus was also taken to determine tissue CRH protein expression using Western blotting.;RESULTS:The hypothalamus CRH protein, the indicators of stress, the plasma DAO activity and plasma D-lac, urine sucrose exertion and gastric Guth score in group I were higher than those in groups Aic and C.;CONCLUSIONS:After cerebral infarction, CRH in the hypothalamus was increased, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the sympathetic nervous system were activated, gastrointestinal permeability was increased, and gastrointestinal barrier function was destroyed. CRH receptor antagonist alleviated the gastrointestinal barrier function.

Ulcerative colitis(UC)is a common progressive inflammatory disease whose incidence has increased rapidly in recent years,and can develop into colorectal cancer in severe cases.There are currently no adequate or effective treatments for UC due to the fact that some patients have found suboptimal results after repeated administration,while others have experienced adverse effects.With the rapid development of nanotechnology,developing innovative colon-targeting platforms is essential to improving efficacy,reducing side effects,and improving patient compliance.In this review,we summarize the pathophysiological characteristics of UC and the most recent status of numerous nanodrug delivery systems based on different targeting mechanisms in treating UC.Oral,intravenous,and rectal drug delivery nanoparticles targeting the colon are discussed,which can provide ideas for the design of colon-targeting nanoparticles for the treatment of colon diseases,especially for the treatment of UC.Last but not least,we provide a glimpse into the future of colon-targeted delivery systems,as well as future advancements in the field.

The collapse pressure is a key parameter when RTPs are applied in harsh deep-water environments.To investigate the collapse of RTPs,numerical simulations and hydrostatic pressure tests are conducted.For the numerical simulations,the eigenvalue analysis and Riks analysis are combined,in which the Hashin failure criterion and fracture energy stiffness degradation model are used to simulate the progressive failure of composites,and the“infinite”boundary conditions are applied to eliminate the boundary effects.As for the hydrostatic pressure tests,RTP specimens were placed in a hydrostatic chamber after filled with water.It has been observed that the cross-section of the middle part collapses when it reaches the maximum pressure.The collapse pressure obtained from the numerical simulations agrees well with that in the experiment.Meanwhile,the applicability of NASA SP-8007 formula on the collapse pressure prediction was also discussed.It has a relatively greater difference because of the ignorance of the progressive failure of composites.For the parametric study,it is found that RTPs have much higher first-ply-failure pressure when the winding angles are between 50°and 70°.Besides,the effect of debonding and initial ovality,and the contribution of the liner and coating are also discussed.

980 nm Near-Infrared Light-Emitting Diode Using All-Inorganic Perovskite Nanocrystals Doped with Ytterbium Ions

All-inorganic perovskite(CsPbX3)nanocrystals(NCs)have recently been widely investigated as versatile solution-processable light-emitting materials.Due to its wide-bandgap nature,the all-inorganic perovskite NC Light-Emitting Diode(LED)is limited to the visible region(400-700 nm).A particularly difficult challenge lies in the practical application of perovskite NCs in the infrared-spectrum region.In this work,a 980 nm NIR all-inorganic perovskite NC LED is demonstrated,which is based on an efficient energy transfer from wide-bandgap materials(CsPbCl3 NCs)to ytterbium ions(Yb3+)as an NIR emitter doped in perovskite NCs.The optimized CsPbCl3 NC with 15 mol%Yb3+doping concentration has the strongest 980 nm photoluminescence(PL)peak,with a PL quantum yield of 63%.An inverted perovskite NC LED is fabricated with the structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/poly-TPD/CsPbCl3:15 mol%Yb3+NCs/TPBi/LiF/Al.The LED has an External Quantum Efficiency(EQE)of 0.2%,a Full Width at Half Maximum(FWHM)of 47 nm,and a maximum luminescence of 182 cd/m?.The introduction of Yb3+doping in perovskite NCs makes it possible to expand its working wavelength to near-infrared band for next-generation light sources and shows potential applications for optoelectronic integration.

One dihydride-bridged dimeric Dy(Ⅲ)guanidinate complex,formulated as[{(Me_(3)Si)_(2)NC(NiPr)_(2)}_(2)Dy(μ-H)]_(2)(1Dy),was successfully isolated and the introduction of hydride bridges significantly reduces the intramolecular Dy(Ⅲ)…Dy(Ⅲ)distance to only 3.688(1)Å.To investigate the effect of such a short Dy(Ⅲ)…Dy(Ⅲ)distance on magnetism,we also prepared its dibromide-bridged analogue[{(Me_(3)Si)_(2)NC(NiPr)_(2)}_(2)Dy(μ-Br)]_(2)(2Dy),which has a much longer Dy(Ⅲ)…Dy(Ⅲ)distance of 4.605(4)Å.Surprisingly,2Dy demonstrates much larger effective energy barrier for magnetization reversal(U_(eff))and higher blocking temperature(T_(B)).The worse performance of 1Dy is attributed to the concerted effect of strong antiferromagnetic interactions between Dy(Ⅲ)ions(J_(total)=–2.683 cm^(–1))and the unparallel arrangement of magnetic principle axes of the Dy(Ⅲ)ions for 1Dy.

To investigate the molecular etiology of low sperm quality in patients with intractable spermatocystitis,spermatozoa samples from patients with persistent hematospermia undergoing transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy and healthy volunteers were utilized.Spermatozoa samples were collected from the seminal vesicles through transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy or by masturbation ejaculation.Sperm quality was analyzed by a WLJY-9000 color semen analysis system.Measurement of tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNFa)and interleukin-6(IL-6)in the seminal plasma was performed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Measurement of H_(2)O_(2)in the seminal plasma was performed with a hydrogen peroxide kit.The protein levels of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)and phosphorylated-Nrf2(p-Nrf2)were measured by western blot analysis and immunofluorescence assays.Low sperm quality parameters and increased levels of inflammatory cytokines(TNFa,IL-6,and H_(2)O_(2))in the seminal plasma were detected among the semen samples from the patients with persistent hematospermia.Nrf2 and p-Nrf2 were strongly expressed in the nucleus and periphery of human sperm cells,according to the results of the immunofluorescence assays.The protein levels of Nrf2 and p-Nrf2 were significantly lower in the spermatozoa samples from patients with persistent hematospermia than in those from healthy volunteers with normal sperm motility.The results suggested that Nrf2 signaling might play a role in the low sperm quality of patients with intractable spermatocystitis.

SCIRD: Revealing Infection of Malicious Software in Edge Computing-Enabled IoT Networks

The Internet of Things(IoT)has characteristics such as node mobility,node heterogeneity,link heterogeneity,and topology heterogeneity.In the face of the IoT characteristics and the explosive growth of IoT nodes,which brings about large-scale data processing requirements,edge computing architecture has become an emerging network architecture to support IoT applications due to its ability to provide powerful computing capabilities and good service functions.However,the defense mechanism of Edge Computing-enabled IoT Nodes(ECIoTNs)is still weak due to their limited resources,so that they are susceptible to malicious software spread,which can compromise data confidentiality and network service availability.Facing this situation,we put forward an epidemiology-based susceptible-curb-infectious-removed-dead(SCIRD)model.Then,we analyze the dynamics of ECIoTNs with different infection levels under different initial conditions to obtain the dynamic differential equations.Additionally,we establish the presence of equilibrium states in the SCIRD model.Furthermore,we conduct an analysis of the model’s stability and examine the conditions under which malicious software will either spread or disappear within Edge Computing-enabled IoT(ECIoT)networks.Lastly,we validate the efficacy and superiority of the SCIRD model through MATLAB simulations.These research findings offer a theoretical foundation for suppressing the propagation of malicious software in ECIoT networks.The experimental results indicate that the theoretical SCIRD model has instructive significance,deeply revealing the principles of malicious software propagation in ECIoT networks.This study solves a challenging security problem of ECIoT networks by determining the malicious software propagation threshold,which lays the foundation for buildingmore secure and reliable ECIoT networks.
