Sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy(SFG-VS)has been demonstrated to be a powerful technique to study the interfacial structures and interactions of biomolecules at the molecular *** most previous studies mainly collected the SFG spectra in the frequency range of 1500–4000 cm-1,which is not always sufficient to describe the detailed interactions at surface and *** knowledge of the complex biophysicochemical interactions between biomolecules and surface requires new ideas and advanced experimental methods for collecting SFG vibrational *** introduced some advanced methods recently exploited by our group and others,including(1)detection of vibration modes in the fingerprint region;(2)combination of chiral and achiral polarization measurements;(3)SFG coupled with surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs);(4)imaging and microscopy approaches;and(5)ultrafast time-resolved SFG *** technique that we integrated with these advanced methods may help to give a detailed and high-spatial-resolution 3D picture of interfacial biomolecules.

Autism and Mental Retardation of Young Children in China

To understand the prevalence and rehabilitation status of autism and mental retardation in China. Methods Screening test and clinical assessment were conducted for the diagnosis of autism and mental retardation. The assessment included investigation of the histories of medical conditions and development of these two disorders, utilization and needs for the rehabilitation service, and related intellectual and behavioral appraisal. Results Among the 7345 children investigated, the prevalence of autism disorder was 1.10 cases per 1000 children aged 2-6 years （95% CI=0.34 to 2.54）, and the prevalence of mental retardation was 10.76 cases per 1000 children （95% CI=8.40 to 13.12）. All the children suffering from autistic disorder were intellectually disabled, whereas 31.0% of the non-autism mental retardates had other disabilities. The medical conditions prior to birth and perinatal period were important potential factors for autism. Half of the autistic children and 84% of the children with non-autism mental retardation had never received any rehabilitative service. Conclusions The prevalence of autistic disorder in children aged 2-6 years in Tianjin is rather high. It is urgent to improve the status of the autistic and intelligently disabled young children in China. In order to upgrade the level of early diagnostic and improve the intervention to autism and mental retardation, public awareness and training courses should be heightened.

To obtain the aluminum alloy with high thermal and mechanical properties,the effects of alloying elements and the second phases on the thermal conductivity of Al alloys were investigated by CALPHAD and first-principles calculation,*** properties of the second phases,including Young's modulus,Poisson's ratio and minimum thermal conductivity,were systematically *** show that the ranking order of the effects of the alloying elements on the thermal conductivity is Mg>Cu>Fe>Si,and for Al-12Si alloys,the mathematical model of the relationship between the alloying elements and the thermal conductivity can be expressed as λ=ax^(2)-bx+c when the second phase precipitates in the *** kinds of ternary phases of Al-Fe-Si have higher deformation resistance,rigidity,theoretical hardness,Debye temperature and thermal conductivity than the other phases which possibly exist in the Al-12Si *** on the guidance of CALPHAD and first-principles calculation,the optimized chemical composition of Al alloy with high conductivity is Al-11.5Si-0.4Fe-0.2Mg(wt.%)with a thermal conductivity of 137.50 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1)and a hardness of 81.3 HBW.

Numerical analyses for the nonlinear evolutions of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) processes are given. Various effects of the second- and third-order nonlinear susceptibilities on the SRS and SBS processes are studied. The nonlinear evolutions of SRS and SBS processes are atfected more efficiently than their linear growth rates by the nonlinear susceptibility.

The method of residue analysis of a new synthesized fungicide 2-allylphenol was studied by simulating the active compound structure in Gingko tree(Gingko biloba L.) and its dissipation rate and terminal residue levels in tomato under field condition. Residues of 2-allylphenol were extracted from tomato matrix with acetone, purified by liquid-liquid extraction and Florisil cartrieges, and then determined by HPLC with UV-detector. The minimum detectable amount of 2-allylphenol was 3×10 -9 g, the minimum detectable concentration of 2-allylphenol in the samples of tomato were 0.01 mg/kg. The ranges of average recoveries and coefficient variation of the method were 87.7%—90.2% and 1.25%—2.06%, respectively. The dissipation rate and terminal residue levels in tomato were determined with the method described above. The results showed that the half-life of 2-allylphenol in tomato was 6.37 d, and 2-allylphenol declined with 82.6% of the initial deposit remaining in tomato at harvest. The terminal residue levels in tomato were 0.15 mg/kg and 0.20 mg/kg following the recommended doses and time intervals.

BACKGROUND:There have been lots of important discoveries in the research on embryonic stem (ES) cells; but few studies have been involving in the differentiation and differentiation ratio of hepatic stem cells. To provide a new source of hepatocytes in hepatocytes transplantation and liver tissue engineering, we investigated the differentiation and differentiation ratio of hepatocytes in the ES cells differentiating system in a certain length of time.METHODS:BALB/c ES cells from mice were cultured for differentiation in medium without leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF). During the period of differentiation of ES cells, dual immunofluorescence was performed to analyze the expression of hepatic proteins in cytoplasm such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and albumin (ALB). The count of relative hepatocyte-like cells was analyzed by flow cytometry (FCM) and the hepatic differentiation ratio was obtained.RESULTS:The expression of AFP was first determined at day 7 and that of ALB at day 13. The expressions of AFP and ALB became stronger with the extention of the differentiation time. The hepatic differentiation ratio at day 13 and 21 was 5.5% and 10.4%, respectively.CONCLUSION:ES cells could differentiate into hepatocytes, which should be a new source of hepatocytes in transplantation of hepatocytes and liver engineering.

Chronic hepatitis B infection is caused by hepatitis B virus(HBV) and a total cure is yet to be achieved. The viral covalently closed circular DNA(ccc DNA) is the key to establish a persistent infection within hepatocytes. Current antiviral strategies have no effect on the pre-existing ccc DNA reservoir. Therefore, the study of the molecular mechanism of ccc DNA formation is becoming a major focus of HBV research. This review summarizes the current advances in ccc DNA molecular biology and the latest studies on the elimination or inactivation of ccc DNA, including three major areas:(1) epigenetic regulation of ccc DNA by HBV X protein,(2) immune-mediated degradation,and(3) genome-editing nucleases. All these aspects provide clues on how to finally attain a cure for chronic hepatitis B infection.

For past decades there have been many studies on the climate features during the last interglacial and glacial periods. A comparison between the loess record of western China with that of monsoon areas shows some regional differences. ( i) Generally, the climate of the Yili region since the late Pleistocene was dry, with fluctuations. Late Pleistocene climate change in the study area can be divided into 5 stages, corresponding to 5 marine isotopic stages (MIS 1-MISS), (ii) Evidence from grain size composition, magnetic susceptibility, carbonate content, pollen assemblage and geochemistry shows that the climate during the last glacial period was instable. During MIS4 the westerly winds were strong and the humidity was relatively high. Compared with the early stage, MIS2 was dry. In MIS3, westerly winds were relatively weak; pedogenesis prevailed, forming paleo-sols.
