Precursor liquid is a nanoscale liquid creeping ahead of the macroscopic edge of spreading liquids,whose behaviors tightly correlate with the three-phase reaction efficiency and patterning accuracy.However,the important spatial-temporal characteristic of the precursor liquid still remains obscure because its real-time spreading process has not been directly observed.Here,we report that the spreading ionic liquid precursors in a silicon corner can be directly captured on video using in situ scanning electron microscopy.In situ spreading videos show that the precursor liquid spreads linearly over time(ΔL～ΔT) rather than obeying the classic Lucas-Washburn law(l～t1/2) and possesses a characteristic width of ～250-310 nm.Theoretical analyses and molecular dynamics simulations demonstrate that the unique behaviors of precursor liquids originate from the competing effect of van der Waals force and surface energy.These findings provide avenues for directly observing liquid/solid interfacial phenomena on a microscopic level.

Objective:To study the efficacy of the enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS)program on postoperative recovery and complications in patients with gastric cancer.Methods:Eighty patients in the perioperative period with radical gastrectomy were enrolled and randomly divided into 2 groups,the ERAS group and the non-ERAS group.The differences between the 2 groups in terms of postoperative recoveries and complications rate were determined.According to the body mass index(BMI)level,the ERAS group was divided into 2 subgroups,namely group A(BMI<28 kg/m2,n=16)and group B(BMI≥28 kg/m2,n=24).The non-ERAS group was also divided into group C(BMI<28 kg/m2,n=18)and group D(BMI≥28 kg/m2,n=22).The recovery and complications of each group were then determined.Results:The postoperative length of stay and visual analogue scale pain score were less in the ERAS group than the non-ERAS group(P<0.05).Time to first postoperative exhaustion,first postoperative defecation,returning leukocyte count to normal,and stopping intravenous nutrition were significantly shorter in the ERAS group(n=40),compared to the non-ERAS group(n=40,all P<0.05).The incidence of postoperative lower extremity intramuscular venous thrombosis was significantly higher in group D than in group B(χ2=4.800,P=0.028).In addition,the incidence of lower extremity intermuscular venous thrombosis and lung infection in group D was higher than those in other groups.Conclusions:The perioperative ERAS program was associated with faster recovery in patients undergoing radical gastrectomy.For patients with higher BMI(BMI≥28 kg/m2),the use of the perioperative ERAS program was more advantageous.

Owing to their excellent performance and large design space,curvilinear fiber-reinforced composite structures have gained considerable attention in engineering fields such as aerospace and automobile.In addition to the stiffness and strength of such structures,their stability also needs to be taken into account in the design.This study proposes a level-set-based optimization framework for maximizing the buckling load of curvilinear fiber-reinforced composite structures.In the proposed method,the contours of the level set function are used to represent fiber paths.For a composite laminate with a certain number of layers,one level set function is defined by radial basis functions and expansion coefficients for each layer.Furthermore,the fiber angle at an arbitrary point is the tangent orientation of the contour through this point.In the finite element of buckling,the stiffness and geometry matrices of an element are related to the fiber angle at the element centroid.This study considers the parallelism constraint for fiber paths.With the sensitivity calculation of the objective and constraint functions,the method of moving asymptotes is utilized to iteratively update all the expansion coefficients regarded as design variables.Two numerical examples under different boundary conditions are given to validate the proposed approach.Results show that the optimized curved fiber paths tend to be parallel and equidistant regardless of whether the composite laminates contain holes or not.Meanwhile,the buckling resistance of the final design is significantly improved.

For a type of high⁃order discrete⁃time nonlinear systems(HDNS)whose system models are undefined,a model⁃free predictive control(MFPC)algorithm is proposed in this paper.At first,an estimation model is given by the improved projection algorithm to approach the controlled nonlinear system.Then,on the basis of the estimation model,a predictive controller is designed by solving the finite time domain rolling optimization quadratic function,and the controller’s explicit analytic solution is also obtained.Furthermore,the closed⁃loop system's stability can be ensured.Finally,the results of simulation reveal that the presented control strategy has a faster convergence speed as well as more stable dynamic property compared with the model⁃free sliding mode control(MFSC).

During the last three decades,evolutionary algorithms(EAs)have shown superiority in solving complex optimization problems,especially those with multiple objectives and non-differentiable landscapes.However,due to the stochastic search strategies,the performance of most EAs deteriorates drastically when handling a large number of decision variables.To tackle the curse of dimensionality,this work proposes an efficient EA for solving super-large-scale multi-objective optimization problems with sparse optimal solutions.The proposed algorithm estimates the sparse distribution of optimal solutions by optimizing a binary vector for each solution,and provides a fast clustering method to highly reduce the dimensionality of the search space.More importantly,all the operations related to the decision variables only contain several matrix calculations,which can be directly accelerated by GPUs.While existing EAs are capable of handling fewer than 10000 real variables,the proposed algorithm is verified to be effective in handling 1000000 real variables.Furthermore,since the proposed algorithm handles the large number of variables via accelerated matrix calculations,its runtime can be reduced to less than 10%of the runtime of existing EAs.

Mammalian asparagine endopeptidase(AEP)is a cysteine protease that cleaves its protein substrates on the Cterminal side of asparagine residues.Converging lines of evidence indicate that AEP may be involved in the pathogenesis of several neurological diseases,including Alzheimer’s disease,Parkinson’s disease,and frontotemporal dementia.AEP is activated in the aging brain,cleaves amyloid precursor protein(APP)and promotes the production of amyloid-β(Aβ).We renamed AEP to δ-secretase to emphasize its role in APP fragmentation and Aβ production.AEP also cleaves other substrates,such as tau,α-synuclein,SET,and TAR DNA-binding protein 43,generating neurotoxic fragments and disturbing their physiological functions.The activity of δ-secretase is tightly regulated at both the transcriptional and posttranslational levels.Here,we review the recent advances in the role of δ-secretase in neurodegenerative diseases,with a focus on its biochemical properties and the transcriptional and posttranslational regulation of its activity,and discuss the clinical implications of δ-secretase as a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target for neurodegenerative diseases.

Intermittent Arc Fault Detection Based on Machine Learning in Resonant Grounding Distribution Systems

In resonant grounding systems,most single-phaseto-ground faults evolve from IAFs(Intermittent Arc Faults).Earlier detection of IAFs can facilitate fault avoidance.This work proposes a novel method based on machine learning for detecting IAFs in three steps.First,the feature of zero-sequence current is automatically extracted and selected by a newlydesigned FINET(“For IAFs,Neuron Elaboration Net”),instead of traditional feature selection based on time-frequency decomposition.Moreover,data of the zero-sequence current divided by different time windows are successively input into the trained FINET.A proposed PSF(principal-subordinate factor)analyses the results obtained from FINET to improve anti-interference in the mentioned IAF detection algorithm.Experiments using PSCAD/EMTDC software simulation data show the proposed method is feasible and highly adaptable.In addition,the detection result of on-site recorded data demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method in practical resonant grounding systems.

Preparation of novel magnetic nanoparticles as draw solutes in forward osmosis desalination

Novel magnetic nanoparticles(MNPs),Fe_(3)O_(4)@SiO_(2) and Fe_(3)O_(4)@SiO_(2)@PEG-(COOH)_(2),were prepared by loading different amounts of SiO_(2) or/and PEG-(COOH)_(2) onto Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles,and their feasibility to be used as forward osmosis(FO)draw solutes was investigated.The characterization of the materials showed that,compared to normal Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles,the modified MNPs exhibited enhanced dispersity and high osmotic pressure in aqueous solution.The FO experiment indicated that the synthesized draw solutes could obtain a water flux as high as 10 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1) with an aquaporin FO membrane.The optimal concentration of the added tetraethyl orthosilicate was 30%during the synthesis.The novel MNPs could be easily recovered from draw solutions by magnetic field,and the recovery rate of Fe_(3)O_(4)@SiO_(2) and Fe_(3)O_(4)@SiO_(2)@PEG-(COOH)_(2) was 83.95%and 63.37%,respectively.Moreover,after 5 recycles of reuse,the water flux of Fe_(3)O_(4)@SiO_(2) and Fe_(3)O_(4)@SiO_(2)@PEG-(COOH)_(2) as draw solutes still remained 64.36%and 85.26%,respectively.The experimental results demonstrated that the synthesized core–shell magnetic nanoparticles are promising draw solutes,and the Fe_(3)O_(4)@SiO_(2)@PEG-(COOH)_(2) was more suitable to be used as draw solute in FO process.

The principle of SPI is using a sequence of structured light patterns to sample the object image and recording the reflected or refracted light intensity using a single-pixel detector.
