Aims Intraspecific trait variation(ITV)has been increasingly recognized to play an important role in understanding the underlying processes influencing community ***,gaps remain in our understanding of how incorporating ITV will influence the relative importance of deterministic(*** filtering,limiting similarity)and stochastic processes in driving community assembly at different successional *** We used data for eight functional traits from 55 woody species in early(24 ha)and late(25 ha)successional temperate forest plot in northeast *** employed an approximate Bayesian com-putation approach to assess the relative contribution of stochastic processes,habitat filtering and limiting similarity in driving commu-nity *** then compared the results with and without intra-specific trait variation to investigate how ITV influences the inferred importance of each *** Findings We found that when analyzing interspecific trait variation only(*** ITV),stochastic processes were observed most frequently in driving community composition,followed by habitat filtering and limiting similarity in both ***,ITV analyses showed that the relative importance of both deterministic processes(habitat filtering and limiting similarity)increased in early successional for-est,but remained virtually unchanged in late successional *** study reveals the distinctive influence of ITV on the inference of underlying processes in a context of succession and reinforces the need to estimate ITV for making correct inferences about underlying ecological processes.

The purpose of this study was to explore the different effects between biomimetic mineralized collagen(MC)and ordinary physically blended hydroxyapatite/collagen(ha/Col)composite in evaluating new bone formation and regenerated bone height in human extraction ***-four patients who cannot retain teeth caused by trauma or decay were randomly selected from Department of Stomatology of Dongzhimen Hospital from December 2013 to December *** patients were randomly divided into two *** the operation of tooth extraction,17 patients were implanted with biomimetic MC(MC group),and other 17 patients were implanted with ordinary physically blended nha/Col composite(nha/Col group).X-ray positioning projection by auto-photographing was taken to test the distance between the lowest position and the neighboring CEJm-CEJd immediately,1 month and 3 months after the *** height of new bone formation of the MC group was significantly higher than the nha/Col *** MC showed better clinical outcomes in the bone formation for extraction site preservation and would have broad application prospect in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgeries.

Preparation of Hydroxyapatite-titanium Dioxide Coating on Ti6Al4V Substrates using Hydrothermal-electrochemical Method

Ti6Al4V substrates were anodized in a 0.5 mol/L H_2SO_4 solution at applied voltages of 90-140 V.A hydroxyapatite-titanium oxide（ha-TiO2）coating was then deposited on the anodized Ti6Al4 V substrates via a hydrothermal-electrochemicalmethod at a constant *** obtained films and coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,and Fourier-transform infrared *** microstructures of the porous films on the Ti6Al4 V substrates were studied to investigate the effect of the anodizing voltage on the phase and morphology of the haTiO_2 *** results indicated that both the phase composition and the morphology of the coatings were significantly influenced by changes in the anodizing ***-TiO_2 was directly precipitated onto the surface of the substrate when the applied voltage was between 110 and 140 *** coatings had a gradient structure and the ha exhibited both needle-like and cotton-like *** amount of cotton-like ha structures decreased with an increase in voltage from 90 to 120 V,and then increased slightly when the voltage was higher than 120 *** orientation index of the（002）plane of the coating was at a minimum when the Ti6Al4 V substrate was pretreated at 120 V.

Application of heat-activated peroxydisulfate process for the chemical cleaning of fouled ultrafiltration membranes

Na Cl O has been widely used to restore membrane flux in practical membrane cleaning processes,which would induce the formation of toxic halogenated *** this study,we proposed a novel heatactivated peroxydisulfate(heat/PDS)process to clean the membrane fouling derived from humic acid(ha).The results show that the combination of heat and PDS can achieve almost 100%recovery of permeate flux after soaking the ha-fouled membrane in 1 mmol/L PDS solution at 50℃ for 2 h,which is attributed to the changes of ha structure and enhanced detachment of foulants from *** properties of different treated membranes are characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),atomic force microscope(AFM),attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(ATRFTIR),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),demonstrating that the reversible and irreversible foulants could be effectively removed by heat/PDS *** filtration process and fouling mechanism of the cleaned membrane were close to that of the virgin membrane,illustrating the good reusability of the cleaned ***,heat/PDS which can avoid the generation of halogenated byproducts shows comparable performance to Na Cl O on membrane cleaning and high performance for the removal of fouling caused by sodium alginate(SA),ha-bovine serum albumin(BSA)-SA mixture and algae,further suggesting that heat/PDS would be a potential alternative for membrane cleaning in practical application.

Biodegradation of acetanilide herbicides acetochlor and butachlor in soil

The biodegradation of two acetanilide herbicides, acetochlor and butachlor in soil after other environmental organic matters addition were measured during 35 days laboratory incubations. The herbicides were applied to soil alone, soil SDBS (sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate) mixtures and soil ha (humic acid) mixtures. Herbicide biodegradation kinetics were compared in the different treatment. Biodegradation products of herbicides in soil alone samples were identified by GC/MS at the end of incubation. Addition of SDBS and ha to soil decreased acetochlor biodegradation, but increased butachlor biodegradation. The biodegradation half life of acetochlor and butachlor in soil alone, soil SDBS mixtures and soil ha mixtures were 4.6d, 6.1d and 5.4d and 5.3d, 4.9d and 5.3d respectively. The biodegradation products were hydroxyacetochlor and 2 methyl 6 ethylaniline for acetochlor, and hydroxybutachlor and 2,6 diethylaniline for butachlor.

The effect of tree size,neighborhood competition and environment on tree growth in an old-growth temperate forest

Aims Understanding the controls influencing tree growth is central to forest *** many factors such as tree size,neighborhood competition and environmental variables,have been proposed as being important in explaining patterns of tree growth,but their relative contributions are still subject to *** aimed to examine the relative importance of tree size,local abiotic conditions and the density and identity of neighbors on tree growth in an old-growth temperate forest in northeast *** We used linear mixed models with data from a 25 ha(500×500 m)broad-leaved Korean pine(Pinus koraiensis)mixed forest perma-nent plot to examine the relative importance of these local drivers on tree growth at three organizational levels(community,guild and species).Subplot was included as a random effect to account for spatial autocorrelation in growth of trees located within the same subplot,and species was included as a random effect to account for variation among species in *** Findings Tree size was typically the most important predictor of growth,followed by neighborhood competition and then soil *** correlation of tree size to growth varied from strongly positive for large trees and medium trees to slightly positive for small *** effect of neighbor-hood competition on growth showed weak negative density dependence as indicated by slightly negative effect of total basal area of neighbors and the proportion of conspecific *** factors influenced growth of very common species,smaller tree-size classes and shade-tolerant *** concluded that the relative importance of variables driving patterns of tree growth varied greatly among tree size classes,shade tolerance and abundance classes in this temperate *** results provide critical information for future studies of forest dynamics and offer insight into forest management in this region.

Nitrous Oxide and Methane Fluxes During the Maize Season Under Optimized Management in Intensive Farming Systems of the North China Plain

Addressing concerns about mitigating greenhouse gas （GHG） emissions while maintaining high grain yield requires improved management practices that achieve sustainable intensification of cereal production systems. In the North China Plain, a field experiment was conducted to measure nitrous oxide （N2O） and methane （CH4） fluxes during the maize （Zea mays L.） season under various agricultural management regimes including conventional treatment （CONT） with high N fertilizer application at a rate of 300 kg N ha-1 and overuse of groundwater by flood irrigation, optimal fertilization 1 treatment （OPTIT）, optimal fertilization 2 treatment （OPT2T）, and controlled-release urea treatment （CRUT） with reduced N fertilizer application and irrigation, and a control （CK） with no N fertilizer. In contrast to CONT, balanced N fertilization treatments （OPT1T, OPT2T, and CRUT） and CK demonstrated a significant drop in cumulative N20 emission （1.70 v.s. 0.43-1.07 kg N ha-l）, indicating that balanced N fertilization substantially reduced N20 emission. The vMues of the N20 emission factor were 0.42%, 0.29%, 0.32%, and 0.27% for CONT, OPTIT, OPT2T, and CRUT, respectively. Global warming potentials, which were predominantly determined by N20 emission, were estimated to be 188 kg CO2-eq ha-1 for CK and 419-765 kg CO2-eq ha-1 for the N fertilization treatments. Global warming potential intensity calculated by considering maize yield was significantly lower for OPT1T, OPT2T, CRUT, and CK than for CONT. Therefore, OPTIT, OPT2T, and CRUT were recommended as promising management practices for sustaining maize yield and reducing GHG emissions in the North China Plain.

Single-seed sowing increased pod yield at a reduced seeding rate by improving root physiological state of Arachis hypogaea

Double-seed sowing(two seeds per hole)is the dominant pattern of peanut sowing in China,but within-hole plant competition usually limits their growth and yield ***,the traditional double-seed sowing method does not facilitate mechanization during *** objective of this study was to determine if single-seed sowing at a proper seeding rate yielded better than traditional double-seed sowing pattern and the differences of physiological metabolism of roots.A field experiment was conducted in two consecutive years to compare pod yields of single-seed sowing at 180000(S180),225000(S225),and 270000 seeds ha^-1(S270)with that of double-seed sowing at 270000 seeds ha^-1(D270)using a completely randomized block design with four *** the root bleeding sap rate,nutrient content,and the main hormone contents in root bleeding sap were also comparatively *** the pod yields of single-seed sowing at the three densities were higher than that of traditional double-seed sowing(D270),S225 yielded better than the other two single-seed sowing treatments(S180 and S270).The increased pod yield in single-seed sowing at 225000 seeds ha^-1 was mainly due to the higher pod dry weight per plant and harvest *** improved pod dry weight and shoot growth had closely relationship with the enhanced root physiological traits such as the increased root bleeding sap rate,content of free amino acids,soluble sugars,K^+,Mg^2+,Zn^2+,and Ca^2+of the individual plant *** improved activity of root reductive,nitrate reductase(NR)and ATPase and higher zeatin and zeatin riboside(Z+ZR)content of root bleeding sap were alsocrucial to the pod and shoot growth of ***-seed sowing at a moderate seeding rate(S225)is a potential practice to increase pod yield and to save seed cost.

Effects of Tillage Practices on Water Consumption, Water Use Efficiency and Grain Yield in Wheat Field

Water shortage is a serious issue threatening the sustainable development of agriculture in the North China Plain, with the winter wheat （Triticum aestivum L.） as its largest water-consuming crop. The effects of tillage practices on the water consumption and water use efifciency （WUE） of wheat under high-yield conditions using supplemental irrigation based on testing soil moisture dynamic change were examined in this study. This experiment was conducted from 2007 to 2010, with ifve tillage practice treatments, namely, strip rotary tillage （SR）, strip rotary tillage after subsoiling （SRS）, rotary tillage （R）, rotary tillage after subsoiling （RS）, and plowing tillage （P）. The results showed that in the SRS and RS treatments the total water and soil water consumptions were 11.81, 25.18%and 12.16, 14.75%higher than those in SR and R treatments, respectively. The lowest ratio of irrigation consumption to total water consumption in the SRS treatment was 18.53 and 21.88%for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 growing seasons, respectively. However, the highest percentage of water consumption was found in the SRS treatment from anthesis to maturity. No signiifcant difference was found between the WUE of the lfag leaf at the later iflling stage in the SRS and RS treatments, but the lfag leaf WUE at these stages were higher than those of other treatments. The SRS and RS treatments exhibited the highest grain yield （9 573.76 and 9 507.49 kg ha-1 for 3-yr average） with no signiifcant difference between the two treatments, followed by P, R and SR treatments. But the SRS treatment had the highest WUE. Thus, the 1-yr subsoiling tillage, plus 2 yr of strip rotary planting operation may be an efifcient measure to increase wheat yield and WUE.
