Quality of Life of Injured Workers in Hong Kong

In 2018,there were 35,964 occupational injuries in all workplaces in Hong *** revealed by many studies,deteriorate health and living quality were usually observed among injured workers as compared with general *** situation remains even after post injury treatment,potentially leading to degraded quality of life(QOL) of injured *** decline in perceived health of the workers after the injury may be linked to decreased physical mobility,reduced physical strength,or psychological damage,etc.,affecting their ability to return to work and hence their *** order to have a better understanding of the impact of work injury on the QOL of injured workers and to identify the factors influential to their QOL,Occupational Safety and Health Council(OSHC) had conducted a cross-sectional survey to measure the QOL of injured workers and compared their QOL scores with the general working population in Hong *** Hong Kong Chinese version of WHOQOL-BREF(HK),which contains 28 questions measuring four domains(i.e.,physical health,psychological,social relations and environment) of an individual’s overall QOL and general health perceptions,was used for evaluating subjective QOL ***,2,620 and 595 injured workers and general workers were interviewed *** results showed that injured workers had significantly lower scores in the four QOL domains as well as their perception of overall QOL and general health than general workers,indicating a negative impact of work injury on ***,it was found that injured workers who had recovered had significantly better QOL scores than those who were under treatment,implying that timely intervention and rehabilitation is crucial for improving the QOL of injured ***,the findings here supported the positive impacts of return to work(RTW) where injured workers who had returned to work or had the intention to return to work had significantly higher QOL scores than those who did *** facto

Monolithic and single-functional-unit level integration of electronic and photonic elements:FET-LET hybrid 6T SRAM

A broad range of technologies have been developed for the chip and wafer scale connections and integrations of photonic and electronic circuits,although major challenges remain for achieving the single-functional-unit-level integration of electronic and photonic devices. Here we use field-effect transistor/light-effect transistor (FET–LET) hybrid 6T static random-access memory (SRAM) as an example to illustrate a novel approach that can alleviate three major challenges to the higher-level integration of the photonic and electronic elements:size mismatch,energy data rate,and cascadability. A hybrid 6T SRAM with two access FETs being replaced by LETs and the electrical word lines replaced by optical waveguides is proposed. This hybrid 6T SRAM is analyzed to reveal its potential in improvement of the switching speed and thus total energy consumption over the conventional 6T SRAM. Numerical analyses,for instance,for a prototype 64 kB hybrid SRAM array,show a factor of 4 and 22reduction in read delay and read energy consumption,and 3 and 4 in write delay and write energy consumption,respectively,when the access FETs are replaced by LETs. The potential impacts on the peripheral and assist circuits due to this hybrid structure and application of the LETs there are also briefly discussed.

Cloud computing has attracted significant interest due to the increasing service demands from organizations offloading computationally intensive tasks to ***,datacenter infrastructure comprises hardware resources that consume high amount of energy and give out carbon emissions at hazardous *** cloud datacenter,Virtual Machines(VMs)need to be allocated on various Physical Machines(PMs)in order to minimize resource wastage and increase energy *** allocation problem is *** finding an exact solution is complicated especially for large-scale *** this con text,this paper proposes an Energy-oriented Flower Pollination Algorithm(E-FPA)for VM allocation in cloud datacenter environments.A system framework for the scheme was developed to enable energy-oriented allocation of various VMs on a *** allocation uses a strategy called Dynamic Switching Probability(DSP).The framework finds a near optimal solution quickly and balances the exploration of the global search and exploitation of the local *** considers a processor,storage,and memory constraints of a PM while prioritizing energy-oriented allocation for a set of *** performed on MultiRecCloudSim utilizing planet workload show that the E-FPA outperforms the Genetic Algorithm for Power-Aware(GAPA)by 21.8%,Order of Exchange Migration(OEM)ant colony system by 21.5%,and First Fit Decreasing(FFD)by 24.9%.Therefore,E-FPA significantly improves datacenter performance and thus,enhances environmental sustainability.

Objectives:*** examine the characteristics of patients with erectile dysfunction in a family physician led erectile dysfunction clinic;*** review association of chronic disease spectrum and erectile dysfunction;*** review initial treatment pattern and ***:Retrospective case series ***:All consecutive patients seen in a regional hospital family physician led erectile dysfunction clinic from April 2014 to March *** outcome measures:*** severity of erectile dysfunction,based on International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5).*** associated chronic comorbidities of *** patterns and patient ***:One hundred and eighty three patients presented with erectile dysfunction(ED)with mean age 58.7(range 23 to 82)years old were seen during the study *** hundred and twenty seven patients(69.4%)had comorbidity of chronic diseases,including 50.8%had hypertension,38.8%had diabetes mellitus and 33.9%had *** mean body mass index was 25.2 kg/m2,the mean blood pressure was 137.3/79.5 mm Hg(1 mm Hg=0.133 kPa).According to IIEF-5 score,50.3%,30.6%and 18.6%had severe,moderate and mild erectile dysfunction *** average duration of ED before seeking medical help was 3.9 *** 5(PDE5)inhibitors were prescribed to 119 patients(65%),and 57.1%of them achieved good *** nine patients(15.8%)were referred to other specialty for further management,including 27.6%had contraindication for PDE5 ***:High proportion of erectile dysfunction patients had comorbitiy of chronic dis-eases.57.1%of those patients receiving PDE5 inhibitors showed good response.

Characterizing a Populated Riparian Zone

Developments adjacent to river, over the years, have impacted the ecological systems along riparian zones. This paper is to explore the changes occurring in a populated riparian zone. For over 35 years, the nipah swamps along the study site at the edge of Kuching city, Sarawak, Malaysia are subjected to human disturbances. Once a nipah forest is dominated by Nypa fruticans, the study site is being replaced by Sonneratia caseolaris—a mangrove forest. Both plants are indigenous to Southeast Asia region. We observe in the study site that Nypa fruticans, habitually a dominant species, is weakened when human disturbances are high, and leads to event taken over by Sonneratia caseolaris. We point out that Sonneratia caseolaris behaves intrusively rather than neighborly in disturbed systems. Here, we suggest that the plant also has high resistance towards human disturbances. This is a growing behavior contradictory to reports of Sonneratia caseolaris in natural systems.

Meniscus,the cushion in knee joint,is a load-bearing tissue that transfers mechanical forces to extracellular matrix(ECM)and tissue resident *** mechanoresponse of human tissue resident stem/progenitor cells in meniscus(hMeSPCs)is significant to tissue homeostasis and regeneration but is not well *** study reports that a mild cyclic tensile loading regimen of~1800 loads/day on hMeSPCs seeded in 3-dimensional(3D)photocrosslinked gelatin methacryloyl(GelMA)hydrogel is critical in maintaining cellular ***,a“slow walk”biomimetic cyclic loading regimen(10%tensile strain,0.5 Hz,1 h/day,up to 15 days)is applied to hMeSPCs encapsulated in GelMA hydrogel with a magnetic force-controlled loading *** loading significantly increases cell differentiation and fibrocartilage-like ECM deposition without affecting cell *** analysis reveals 332 mechanoresponsive genes,clustered into cell senescence,mechanical sensitivity,and ECM dynamics,associated with interleukins,integrins,and collagens/matrix metalloproteinase *** cell-GelMA constructs show active ECM remodeling,traced using a green fluorescence tagged(GFT)-GelMA *** enhances nascent pericellular matrix production by the encapsulated hMeSPCs,which gradually compensates for the hydrogel loss in the *** findings demonstrate the strong tissue-forming ability of hMeSPCs,and the importance of mechanical factors in maintaining meniscus homeostasis.
